(A hint: my level 50 controller with both HP accolades can only take ~2 shots from
an existing Hive GM, and sometimes the 2nd shot is enough to wipe him out.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shoot, the giant grass type monsters in the Hive can one-shot my Scrapper with both HP accolades with his ranged attack. I guess your controller has some sort of resistances (from the epics?).

it sounds like you can get an enemy from 50% down to 5% with only 5 or 6 of the powers, and barely slotting them for def

so what's the difference in to-hit from an even level guy (50%) to a guy that's +1, or +2, or +3?

    im a /SR stalker, fyi

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um, you got the numbers wrong.

For instance: Focused Fighting + Dodge, both three slotted with DEF SOs gets you 28% defense. That means an even level minion has a 22% chance of hitting you. The same with Focused Senses and Agile. Evasion has a higher base, but you're still not going to be capping out anything white or above with it.

Focused Fighting and Focused Senses do not stack, they just cover different parts of your defense.

If you want to cap out defese, you need to either fight greens/grays or use Elude.

Also, there is one other slight error in the post: The run speed boost from Quickness is about 10-20% less than what you get from Swift. This is easy to test as there are lots of people with Swift in the game.
  3. I don't know Hamster, do the Isolators have it unlocked? At the current rate we might unlock the Autodoc before we unlock the Mission Monitor. If only it weren't so useless on the CoH side.
  4. I get the impression that changes go on the Devs internal build for a couple of months, then get merged into the test build, which is then copied over as the running build. I suspect the lack of patch notes comes in because a lot of these changes were fairly minor things that they did two months ago and forgot about. When they finally make it live players go "[censored]!" and the devs say to themselves "oh, looks like that change made it live".

I wonder if the thought process behind which patches get merged to test is a little haphazard? Obviously some things (ED, Defense changes, Smoke Grenade fix, etc...) stay on the developers build longer than others (Prestige duping bug), and it could easily be difficult to keep track of which features made it to which build. Of course better revision control would solve that problem, but it can be really hard to change revision control systems after you start using one.
  5. Salvage copies over when you do the character transfer, making it trivial to duplicate (especially if you start with a lot). How do you think people are able to post pictures of the Fusion gen?
  6. How about just installing an arena terminal in your base?

On the hero side, I'd LOVE to see something like a Hero Base Spur Line you could install. It would be a little mini-subway room that would allow you to go anywhere the Green or Yellow lines go. It would make a nice complement to the teleporters which only go to zones not serviced by the trams anyway.

Oh, and the stupid teleport beacon for Founders Falls.
  7. Ow, how do you keep from bonking your head when walking around the base?

    Nice design though.
  8. It's obvious: Lead Blast.

I'm currently having a problem with adding more rooms to our VG Base. I've set it up in such a manner that I've left 2 rather clear tiles available to place a room (another workshop so I can have an expert machine too). I have a screenie to explain easier: Base Screenie

Now, see the red outline there where I'm placing a room? the reason it gives for me not being able to place it is "Room cannot be placed because it may not be reachable from the entrance". But the problem is that I've cleared out the tile I wish to link it to. In order for me to place this room, do I have to delete the huge room I made? I love that thing and it took me about 3 hours to make all pretty-like...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope that fixed the problem for you. Don't forget that even the smallest item blocking the doorway can keep it from being built.

However, I notice you were placing in the corner. I've had some trouble placing doors in the corner (the game tries to place the doorway on the blocked side of the room instead of the clear side). I actually had to clear out a lot of decoration in the room to let the game place the door where IT wanted, then use the "doorway" tool to put it in the right place. Thus far the game has only been stupid when I tried to place the room in that one corner, but it is something to watch out for.
  10. Ack, I didn't realize my little plot was going to draw so much flamage. Yeah, a 1x4 control room would fit in there just as well (with a little rearranging). I only made that plot to prove a point, not as something someone would actually make.

It was originally made because someone was saying that it was impossible to build a raidable base in the 8x8 plot, and with 5 minutes in my base planner I was able to prove him wrong.
  11. Heh, I'm just glad CoH isn't yet another Swords and Sorcerery themed MMO. You would think game developers would be more creative.
  12. Maybe if he wern't so darn cryptic at times (heh) we wouldn't feel the need to read between the lines so much.

I believe I mentioned during test that at the rate we were getting prestige vs. salvage that prestige is far and away the bottleneck to building the base.

I'm still hoping (it is only hope, no word at all about something like this) that the devs released the bases with "super conservative" settings just to avoid problems if people found a quick way to earn prestige and maxed out the bases before the devs realized it. I mean the prestige difference from a single kill to the cheapest possible room is four orders of magnitude. That's just crazy. After they're confident they've got the bugs worked out and there's no farmable exploit, they can bump the earn rate up to something sane. People would cry bloody murder if they found something to farm and suffered through some terrible grind for weeks only to have their work taken away from them later. Think about the crying over the powersets, but only much much worse.

Of course it means that the current bases are puny and most SGs can't even afford a minimally functional base, but turning up the rate later is much better than having to roll people back because they've found the new way to herd wolves or something. You can't deny that the existing base system still has plenty of bugs to work out too.
  13. I'm curious if you devs are regeretting the way you made toggles work in CoH. There's really such a black and white difference between having status protection and not that it really limits what you can do in the game.

At least that's what it seems like to me.

Wouldn't it be more interesting if status protection wasn't 100% effective like it is now, but when you're held your toggles don't all go down instantly? Maybe toggles would randomly drop as you're held, but it would take several seconds of continuous holds to knock them all out. It would have reduced the requirement for hacking on toggle drops in PvP too.

You could even play with giving melee characters a lot of status resistance, but little status protection (they reduce the duration a lot, but have a low mag).

Build Massive Fortresses Room by Room*

    * Well, maybe not YOU, but some Korean powerleveling group could probably afford a massive fortress in 5 or 10 years or so.
  15. The doorways are part of that 5% that's not done yet. There's also a whole Doorways tab in the style section that has no options.

One thing that bugs me is that you have to be _very_ careful about matching the light sources between rooms or you end up with an ugly bright/dark line in the middle of the doorway. I usually leave my doorways dark to counter this, but it's obviously not a very good solution.
  16. That sucks, I've never had the same problem though.

One thing that really annoys me is that half of the lighting fixtures (in the lighting tab) don't actually produce any light whatsoever. Most annoyingly, the recessed tech lights fall in that category.

It wouldn't be so bad except that the built-in base lighting is so splochy. Just look at the purple tinted rooms at the bottom left of the screenshot, or the yellow tinted room above them.
  17. There are some stairs that DON'T block raid paths? Which kind?

I'm kinda hoping the devs will give the whole base construction system a once over sometime in the near future. It feels like it's about 95% right now and just needs some polish.

Of course getting new base items with the issues would be nice. there are a LOT of things that could be added at the moment. Sometimes it feels like the devs went a little overboard with some things (there are HOW many different kinds of organs in jars, or stacks of paper?) and dropped the ball on others (why can't I buy a bed that isn't covered in restraints or made out of reeds?)
  18. You know, at 35 (fighting 37s and 38s) Longbow isn't too bad (they apparently don't get the nasty tricks until 40), but CoT are murder. I'm fighting spawns with 3 or 4 Earth Thorn casters and if I've forgotton to rebubble my minions the ETCs alone can kill them off with 3 or 4 of those ranged AoE footstomp things they do.

Plus, everything that's not an Earth Thorn is a Spectral Demon Lord, Behemoth, or a Guide. Ok, the Guides are still pretty weak, but the Spectral Demon Lords still have Chill of the Night and Behemoths lauch fireballs that just add onto the damage the Earth Thorns are doing. It's brutal fighting in Orenbenga because your minions are always bunched up and all of those AoEs destroy them in no time.

Fortunatly Insulation and Dispersion do a pretty good job of making those attacks miss, but if I forget to rebubble the minions during the mission I'll usually lose at least the drones before I even realize it.

    Quicksand is still evil.
  19. Actually, the supercomputer can save you power if you have 4 or 5 databases already installed in your base. We installed it and our power situation acutally got better.

    We're running: Basic Gen + 2 caps (which aren't even needed yet), 1xSuper Computer, 1xBasic table, 1xAdvanced table, 1xRaid Porter, 3xBasic Porters, 1xMission Computer, 1xRez Ring, and 2xInsp dispensers.
  20. Interesting, so slotting endo reducers will actually reduce the amount of endo your pets use when shooting their lasers and stuff? Not that it matters, but that's not what I expected, I only wanted to reduce what I pay for the initial summon.

The hell? When did *that* happen? I must have missed that episode of Captain Planet - I don't remember any story of a "Heart"less Cap at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Captain Planet's wasn't always Ted Turner's communist propaganda tool. In the origional concepts, Captain Planet actually looked like it was going to be kind of cool.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's all very nice if you're in the mood for a discussion on the ulterior motives of media moguls. However, it does not answer the question.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Read between the lines: The TV show never touched on these elements (no pun intended) of Captain Planet, however the original design for the show included this.

To be honest though, I can't really remember what Captain Planet's powers were. I know they were useful for stopping logging and shutting down polluting factories, but I the only thing I remember from the series was the 5 kids pulling out their rings (like they should have 20 minutes earlier) and stopping Big EvilCo from running their kitten fired power plant.

I also remember that the American Kid (Fire) was a total jackass.
  22. I thought it was only unresistable in PvP.

In PvE for instance Scrapper Crits are certainly resisted normally based on the damage type. I'd be surprised if Stalker Crits work differently.
  23. Have you tried the Wall Sconces or the Recessed Tech Lights though? As far as I can tell, they produce no light whatsoever. The hanging wooden lights don't produce any either, but I don't see how they would anyway. I'm half convinced they're just in the wrong tab.
  24. The Mega Monitor is an overpriced control aux item. I think it's craftable at the Advanced table, but I can't remember for sure.
  25. I love your ops room. That looks awesome.

BTW, does anybody know when the lighting features are going to be looked at? It seems like half of them don't actually produce any light. This is especially annoying one stuff like the recessed tech lights, because those would be perfect for my base if they only put out some light. :/
