I put the proc and another MoT in my 'Whirling Hands.' I only get it to stack twice. However, I'm thinking that I should have placed it in my 'Bone Smasher' attack power. Since this was my first time using it I didn't want to unslot any of my Mako IOs I'm using. I do have Stupefy in Bone Smasher. I'll try it out and see if I can get it to work better that way.

Quote:Two Reasons:I spent my first six months in City of Heroes getting ripped off by contacts before I realized they weren't actually rewarding me for my efforts. And I've spent the last year and a half wondering why this happens.
1. Because the contacts know our characters are suckers for a smiling face and new shinny things regardless of the cost.
2. Capitalism! -
Quote:This.Higher purpose: You do what you do not because you want to, but because that's simply what you have to do. Your actions are out of your hands, you have been chosen for this. You don't see any evil you do as your responsibility, because you really feel you have no choice.
My only villain, Wolfe Dragoon, is an Arachnos Soldier. His sole purpose for joining Arachnos is protecting his family from Arachnos and Freedom Phalanx. The former because they don't care about their own people, let alone civilians, the latter because they can't see those beneath them because their noses are stuck up in the clouds.
He does what has to do for survival. Unfortunately, he rationalizes what he is doing as the ends justify the means. The one caveat he holds true too: Harm no civilians. To date none of his missions required him to break a vow he swore long again. However, I am sure when that day comes, he will hold to his conviction and make a choice that will lead to his death or force him to bug out taking his family with him.
Right now, he is one mission away from becoming a Rogue purely because Arachnos serves no one but itself. It is his belief that becoming a rogue will allow him to operate with more freedom especially when it comes to protecting civilians. -

Quote:Wait. What?Hasn't Einstein's Ponytail theory been proven wrong via countless women in New Jersey by the Aqua Net paradigm? Or at least it didn’t take hold.
They wear ponytails in New Jersey? Are you sure? I thought the only style they had there was huge hair. Huh...I need to get out more. -
Quote:You know, you could go over to Imperial City and fight the Syndicate with the PPD and at the of it select the Katana temporary power. Thus you have your sword.I was recently catching a cat nap, and I dreamt I was resuming play on a character I'd created in CoH ... joining an iTrial, in fact ... and I was admiring the purple costume with red cloak that I'd created ... and only upon awakening did I realize that my dream toon was a dark miasma / broadsword defender.

Would it not be easier to allow the Tanker limited access to ranged attacks within certain secondary powers? That would not require designing a new AT. You mentioned every AT except a Tank. I am curious as to why. It seems to me that if a Tanker's power like Energy, Fire, Ice, or Dark Melee's could have an alternate selection of ranged powers that target an area, chosen by the player, to use in place of melee. Maybe 1 or 2 of the individual attacks and 1 of the AOEs. That would give a good mix of both melee and range. Furthermore, you do not have to mitigate damage and these powers could use ToA IOs. No radical changes required. Thus creates a real 'Tank Mage.'
-
Personally, I believe there are more than enough power sets in the game now. However, expanding on some of the older ones as they are doing with Darkness powers is great.
I would like to see them open powers to those ATs that use similar powers. Example, what cannot an Archer blaster AT not have access to Trick Arrow? Why not allow a Tank use a single sword like the Brute can?
There are powers that just make too much sense to allow other ATs have access to. Why limit the Dominator from using main powers of a Controller or vice versa? Sure they both have two different main purposes; however, those powers can be tailored to fit into those specific purposes. -
Instead of reading through 32 pages of suggestions looking for my subject, I thought I would go ahead and suggest it. If this is already mentioned, okay. If not, here you go.
I would really like to see the FX choice selection for dark powers as the Galaxy, Warshades, Void Hunters, and Void Hunter Guns, and other Nictus powers use for effect. In trying to come up with something similar in the color tenting, it fails miserably. A selection named, "Nictus Tinting/Effect" for all dark powers, in my opinion, would make these powers visually appealing. Thanks.
On the similar idea, a Void Hunter costume for players would be a great addition allowing players to incorporate into their characters make up. -
Awesome.
However the winner is!

Quote:I hadn't used the geysers in a long while. When I did recently imagine my surprise.Yes, you have some degree of fine-tuning, but if the geyser shoots you short, you're SOL. If the geyser shoots you into a wall, you're SOL. If the geyser shoots you off to the side, you're SOL. "Control" simply isn't.
I promptly obtained a jet pack and flew on until I simply got tired of doing so. I'd rather tack a pounding by a GM on monster island than subject myself to the Shadow Shard anymore. At least using a jet pack.

Quote:This...I actually enjoy the challenge of creating a good bio in 1023 characters. It forces me to think and re-think my selection of words and the relevant information about the character that I'm trying to convey. Kind of like doing a drabble (100-word story) challenge.

Quote:My only requirement is that the writing follows the correct format of proper literature. If the whole thing is in caps, I usually just stop. If the thing is a big block of text with no lines of separation, I can't read it because my eyes will jump from line to line and I get lost.
When I write my bios, I usually take up the whole space provided. My characters are just that: characters. They have a past, a present, a future, a personality, and exist dynamically. I can't convey nearly all of that in the bio, so I try to put down the important parts, which consist of the following:
- Real name
- Origin
- Backstory
- Motivation
- Power explanation.
Something I saw done once that I enjoyed so much that I did something similar myself was when someone took the backstory of their character and make an AE arc out of it. Me and a few guys play-tested it with him, and it was awesome. So, I made my own to help explain the more mysterious of my toon's bios.
None of you knows my background, or me, which is okay. However, I can tell you from my experience in developing and writing that what Dark Respite and Blood Red Arachnid offer in advice for writing bios are very good.
When I have a number of writing assignment with a 200-word limit, you have to be able to convey to the reader your idea by showing them, not just telling them. I made it a practice to over write and then go back re-read, then edit it down to points that will show the story I'm trying to tell. It takes practice, lots of it. However, most people can pen a nice little bio for their characters if they take the time to do so.
Blood's format is a good format to follow. You can write a paragraph for each area and then edit down to the size limit using your information to tell a complete bio. The back-story we pen for our characters helps others for a better understand who our characters are. You can live it as is or update it as time passes. However, whatever you do is your choice. It is your choice.
Below is the bio of my Night Widow, Black Widow Maiden. I have written it so I do not have to worry about updating it. Some may like it and others may not. However, the bio does convey my character's story and I wrote it using a format similar to what Blood Red Arachnid suggested.
Quote:As an orphan, Annabelle Carter ran the streets Kings Row with local gangs. Her saving grace was Sister Mary from the local child shelter and her unconditional love. That love would have a profound effect on Annie years later.
Eventually, she found herself in the Rogue Isles ultimately catching Fortunata Hamiltons eye. Impressed by Annies boldness, Hamilton sense something special in her and had her accepted into the Widow program.
Annabelle found her calling in the Widows where she excelled, eventually earning the title Night Widow. However, while serving her patron, Ghost Widow, disenchantment with Arachnos began to grow. The final straw came when Recluse forced Annie to protect herself from him by stopping his Project Destiny that she sought a different path.
That fateful day forever changed her. Black Widow Maiden severed ties with Arachnos after she defeated Ghost Widow, Marys love gave her the strength to do so. She made her way to Paragon City and Sister Mary for redemption and forgiveness. -
Quote:So much for 20 hours of real time as once purported. I logged in Friday afternoon around 5PM, to find no more debuff. I initially received it Thursday night around 10:30 PM or so, at which point I continued to play on for another hour and half with it. Some 18.5 hours later, gone, cya, buh-bye, debuff was gone and no longer affecting my character. As I said before, this is nothing but a nuisance, nothing more. People want to blow it completely out of proportion, just as you said. So, we're getting upset for being (Temporarily) penalized for not reading the helpful clues? Heaven forbid there should be consequences that are non-positive. Your incarnate level-shifted uber-selves won't notice.
I got the ritual wrong the first time (did the mumbling), got the debuff, got it right the second time, and didn't even notice the debuff (if it was still there) in the next mission.
It's not as big a deal as some folks make it sound, which is the way it is with just about everything in this game that folks take offense to.
If this penalizes folks for not reading, I say "Good job, Devs." Let's have some more.
I guess what it comes down to is that people want to play without having any negatives or penalties if they mess something up. For me, I overcame the problem, adapted my play, and motored on without any further problems. If others are not capable of doing such a thing, then they should not play the mission arc. All they miss is the mission badge, no big deal. For those who do, the badge is the reward for completing it successfully with or without the dreaded debuff of doom. -
I was going to answer your post until I read this bovine excrement. I do not bother with idiots who decide to insult others or me because they think they know more about a subject because someone uses the phrase halfway to the softcap. My MBA speaks otherwise to your assertion that I lack the ability to understand the fundamentals of how math works.
-
Dead end? No. Out of line with the rest of the AT's and the game? Most certainly. This is why it is imperative that the developers address this in the same manner they've addressed the others. Otherwise, what you stated may end up being true and tankers could quite possibly end up being a rarely seen or used by players in the game.
-
Still, so what. It's part of the game. We are not playing Monty Hall's 'Let's Make a Deal, here.' Whining about it won't make it go away. It's childish and counter-productive. So what if you loose a little bit of endurance and a whopping 3% off defenses. OMG, the world is going to end! Really? Most of the characters running around in the game are at or near the soft cap. Heck, mine is half way to the soft cap. It didn't not impede me on my ability to complete this and missions following it sucessfully.
Maybe you should go back to the beginning of this thread friend. There you will see my original participation. Maybe, one should follow their own advice before giving it to others. Jeez -
After reading about this and the dismay that followed, I took up this mission last night with the sole purpose of botching it. For good measure, I did so twice before finally completing it.
For reference: I used my 41st level Electric Armor/Energy Melee tanker. I did so because he is an endurance pig. The only thing I had to compensate for was my loss of endurance. I turned off either my sprint or my Lightning Field.
After completing the ritual, I took on the Carnies for the arrow and Countess Crey for the bow. When it was all said and done, I completed both missions in less than 5 minutes. The longest part of both was taking down the Countess and her four waves of reinforcements.
I breezed through the Grandville, pausing only to pose for a couple of pictures. I snapped one picture with that gawd awful 'I love myself' statue of Recluse in the background and one on his left shoulder with his head behind me. Afterwards, and for good measure I cleared the field of all the baddies save that of Red Widow. Nailed her with the arrow, done. Love re-established. Woohoo!
I do not know what the big deal is about this 'botched ritual' temp power. The only noticeable issue, my endurance, I compensated for that. Otherwise, it really did not affect me afterwards. I went on to complete the mission arc for Maxwell Christopher and four missions for Janet Kellum. I believe this is no worse than the Wasting Disease, Crey Narcotic, or receiving The Fool from Mystic Fortune. Truthfully, this is blown out of proportion. "Oh no, I received botched ritual! I'm done for!" Bah...so what. -
Quote:I am sorry, but this is a straw man argument. The truth of the matter is you do not want to suffer any ill effects that will cause your character to be less efficient and you lose any control. Everything you stated is window dressing, your last sentence reveals the truth.I'm not interested in playing a gimped character. I come to this game for the empowerment fantasy, and if I'm told my character's going to suck wind for the next 20 ******* hours, I take a hike. Or better yet, I don't do the mission.
This isn't a question character concept and the risks facing a hero or a villain. That part I understand. I'm talking about my playing experience AS A PLAYER, in that that's not a game I want to play. You can ret-con whatever asinine nonsense explanation you want to justify, say, my character permanently losing all his powers, then shrug and go "Welp! You win some, you lose some!" Yeah, maybe, but that's not a game I care to play, let alone pay for.
Punitive failure mechanics are pretty much the worst part of any game I've ever seen them in. How often do you see people fighting Steel Canyon fires? Because I see at most one other person every five fires I fight or so. Do you know why? Because fighting fires rewards jack squat and it kills you dead if you fail. Really, I enjoy fighting fires immensely, but I HAAATE the stupid building explosion because it adds absolutely nothing to the experience that isn't annoying and frustrating. And the real kicker is that people are so afraid of blowing up that they'll abandon the firefight as soon as the building shows any sign of detonation, never you mind that I've had it last another 15 minutes until I put out all of the fires.
Having a "shelf this character for 20 hours" failure penalty is not acceptable. If someone was silly enough to actually greenlight that into the game, fine. Argue for it. I refuse to participate in content that's going to annoy me out of my skin for no real reason when I can participate in content that's just as "dangerous" in a narrative context, but doesn't serve to put my game on hold for a day.
And, really, for all your arguing about how it's "in-character" to face risks - that's not a risk for the character. At all. I can log this character out of the game for 20 hours and nothing ill will happen. It's a risk FOR THE PLAYER. And that's not acceptable. If I wanted to face greater character difficulty and risk, I'd up my difficulty settings. But at least then I - the player - will still be in control of my experience.
In the same vein, based on what you stated, you would not play the mission arch involving the Vahzilok Wasting Disease, which your character become afflicted by it and it causes -Regeneration, -Recovery, -Hit Points, -Endurance. This lasts until the cure is produced, which is for a number of missions.
Alternatively, you would not want to play Janet Kellum mission where you are afflicted by the Crey narcotic that causes -Recovery, -Speed, - recharge at the beginning of the mission and suffer through it until it wears off or you go to the contact.
You want to play where you have complete control, then say so. Do not try blowing smoke to hide the real reason you will never play missions that will cause you to lose control. -
Here you go:
Quote:My Darling Tammy,
Oh how I love thee.
My heart fills with joy when I look apon your face.
The sun, moon, and stars pale in comparison to your translucence beauty.
Flowers bow their heads in shame and homage when you pass by.
Birds sing joyous songs in praise of your loveliness.
As the splitting of the atom fuels the heat of nuclear fusion,
your exquisiteness doth fuel my heart’s love for you.
Forever yours,

Quote:Because Super Heroes and Villains are not afraid of taking a chance. They follow a code that they live by. You the player may 'know' there is a chance of something like this happening; however, the character does not. I see no fun in playing a character in any game using 'off-board' knowledge to make decisions with. A hero or villain are not afrair to risk life or limb to reach their goal. Those that are, fail at being either. It's the same reason I don't want my fortune read to me. If I stand a chance to fail and suck for the rest of the day, why even bother to try? What do I gain for it, aside from Ms. Duncan's "lovely" antics?
It's like walking into a room with a rabid dog. Sure, the dog's chained up and I don't have to go anywhere near it and it's perfectly safe, but... Why would I want to go into a room with a rabid dog in it in the first place, when I can go into a room that doesn't have a rabid dog chained in the middle of it, instead? What kind of sense does that make? -

Quote:Oh, come on. You do not want smarter mobs do you? I mean, they might start organizing, having 'Occupy Atlas' events protesting all the butt whippings they get. Protests and sit ins everywhere. Hellions, Skuls, Outcasts, Thorns, and Clockworks uniting into a single union 'Mobs R Us' leading to a complete shutdown of Paragon City. They will put all the superheroes and villains out of business! All of which we know will ultimately find support from Recluse, Nemesis, and all the other evil super villain leaders. Surely, this is not what you are thinking? Say it ain't so!This sounds kind of exciting, but I'm not really sure what it means. The implication seems to be that there is a lot more under the surface of the engine (read: potential for major new features) than anyone realizes or knows about. I am somewhat skeptical of this because it is difficult to reconcile how the following two facts, stated in these forums, could be true at the same time:
- The engine is 10 years old and still capable of major new features.
- Features like dynamic mission content and smarter mobs are simply impossible, presumably because the engine is so old and architecturally inflexible (usually phrased as "the engine can't support it").
-
I bet this is why two of my characters who did not have any missions in Faultline or Talos (other than Nance, Adair, & Cooling) cannot access any of the missions in Ouroboros. This wasn't a problem until after they went live with Freedom.

Wow, a great thread ya'll. Since I'm at 15 lvl with my Sonic/Sonic, this will help me greatly. Thanks!
