Sonic/Sonic Defender build - help?
Looks pretty solid.
Comments:
1) Sonic Siphon doesn't stack on the same target. When you want to use it though, you want it to hit. I agree that 1 slot is enough, I just think that one slot should be for accuracy not recharge.
2) Hover is pretty harmless endurance-wise. I'd use an LOTG 7.5% recharge io here instead. A Kismet 6% wouldn't be a bad choice either.
3) I'd swap the slotting of Tough with one of the ally shields, since Tough is a toggle you'll always have on, versus a buff that may only needed once every four minutes (though that's rarely the case in practice).
4) A Numi Heal IO will provide more net regen if slotted instead of the Regen Tissue IO.
Those 4 items I personally feel pretty strongly about. The comments below are more about my own tastes and preferences.
Siren's Song is very tempting to take (appropriately enough) because of the ability to slot a cheap purple. In practice though, I prefer Screech not just for having a harder control than a sleep, but because the -res lasts longer than any of the other blasts, making it a key part of -res stacking against a hard target.
Sonic Resonance offers the unique ability to provide a substantial amount of resistance to a squishy, and of course you can build defense several ways. You're not too far away from soft-capping (or getting very very close) your ranged def and perhaps your aoe as well. I too play a hovering Sonic/Sonic and melee attacks are few and far between, so aoe and range provide sufficient coverage. You could then take a resistance shield to hard-cap s/l and boost some other type(s). Personally, I went psi mastery for Mind Over Body to get some Psi coverage.
Anyway, to answer your question " hopefully with these numbers I will be pretty survivable?" I'd say "yes, you'll be plenty survivable."
Cardiac is the Alpha choice I made and it completely satisifies endurance. It does such a good job with endurance I think ageless would be overkill. I don't have Destiny yet, but I think Rebirth is the way to go, as it covers the only gap a well build Sonic/ like yours (and mine) have.
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
I saw your topic and I figured I'd post the build I use on mine, no changes made from what I actually use. Cardiac Core Paragon is definitely your number one goal when you start incarnating though, then mix in either Rebirth Destiny so you can get a good self + ally heal, rounding out the build. Nothing else specific really matters for incarnating, but to keep with my themes I went Void Radial Judgement for the -dmg debuff, and Reactive Interface for the -Res debuff. I personally have a lot of fun on my Sonic/Sonic.

Issue 17: We Didn't Break Anything!
How to suck at CoX
Literally the Best Build Ever: Years in the Making
I was just dusting off my unfinished sonic/sonic, and was thinking about slotting as well. Hadn't gotten started yet in-game, but I did have an old Mids build to go from. In contrast to the approaches above, I was going for +recharge to cope with sonic attack's slowish recharges. In practice I find that I don't need the softcap when I'm not on a meleer or a blaster who might draw more aggro, and in this build I have almost no defense whatsoever! I do have 70% resistance to S/L, though.
This is a legacy build -- still has fitness as a power pool selection in it, and still treated my travel power as if I needed to wait until 14 to take it. When I get around to it, I will probably rebuild this from the ground up so I can put more slots in the shields and maybe switch ancillaries (now that I'm looking at it, not sure I like total focus in there).

KABOOM!
Well for one, remove Shout. It's a horrible power. It may seem good but it has an atrocious 2.66 cast time, reducing it's DPA considerably. The first two powers do well on their own. Replace it with Aid Other or something... or Burnout for Double Liquefy/Screech (for super stuns).
Other than that, there isn't much else to do. I personally love Defender Nukes but thats because im a kin naturally so you'll do fine without it.
Whining about everything since 2006.
Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

Error. This isn't a Scrapper, we aren't trying to create a max DPA attack chain. This is a Defender, and Shout has a -20% Resist debuff. For the maximum possible AV debuffing you definitely want Shriek, Scream, Shout, Howl, and Screech. You can omit EVERYTHING else from Sonic Blast if you want, but don't settle for only -80% Resist from that set when it has the potential to do -100% Resist by itself. Remember that you CANNOT stack the same attack's -Resist with itself, only with other attacks.

Wow, a great thread ya'll. Since I'm at 15 lvl with my Sonic/Sonic, this will help me greatly. Thanks!
Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.
So for serious... the -Resist Debuffs in a Buff/Debuff set play by different (and INFERIOR) rules than the -Resist Debuffs in a Ranged Damage set? I'm glad to know this information now, thanks... although I feel a little put off by it. It makes me wonder if all you need to be the best -Resist debuffer is to roll a Kinetics / Sonic and stack Siphon Speed on top of a build with high recharge, and just Shriek - Scream chain an AV until it pukes blood.

Yeah, mezzes and debuffs that don't stack with themselves should be the exception and not the rule. Fortunately, except for a few non-stacking single-target debuffs of limited PvE value added in the post-PvP era (Sonic Siphon is one), they're pretty rare.
Typically I like to only see non-self-stacking mezzes and debuffs in the case of toggles (Disruption Field, for example) or tick emanations from the same instance of a pet (Liquefy, for example). Taking away the stackability on a click debuff takes away one of the few advantages of debuffs versus buffs, which don't get resisted, don't get level scaled, don't have to-hit checks, don't draw aggro, and don't have to be re-applied on every new spawn. (Insult to injury, a few click buffs are self-stackable, even.)
It may seem good but it has an atrocious 2.66 cast time, reducing it's DPA considerably.

Your ideal chain with sonic blast will include shout unless you're near the recharge cap since it's not possible to make a seamless chain with just shriek and scream.

Thanks for that chart, it makes me feel a bit more confident in the 1-2-1-3 attack chains my Defenders typically have. Like with Ice Blast, the similar chain is Ice Bolt - Ice Blast - Ice Bolt - Bitter Ice Blast, but Ice's tier2 Ice Blast is the worst DPA there and some people use filler attacks. Those debuff lengths on the chart are pretty cool honestly, knowing all this makes me want to roll a Sonic / Mental Blaster now.

I like Shout because it's pretty, and jousting backwards and/or range slotting makes a satisfying WHOOMP fly through the air, and, oh yeah, it's pretty.
That is a very interesting chart there. Do the damage calculations apply scream's own debuff to the ticks after the first tick of DoT?

My brain was mush for the rest of the day after making it.
Can anyone look over this build for a sonic/sonic defender and tell me what they think of it?
With Stealth, I have 48.5% S/L defense, 43.8% fire/cold defense, 54.4% energy defense, 38.8% negative defense, 28.1% psionic defense, 25% melee defense, 37.5% ranged defense, 43.8% AoE defense.
Of course, its a Sonic/*, so there's resistances too at 51.5% for smash/lethal, 37.4% for fire, 29.9% for cold, 27% for energy, 46.4% for toxic, 30.2% for negative, but only 3% for psionic.
Psionic is clearly my biggest weakness, but hopefully with these numbers I will be pretty survivable?
I think endurance/second cost might be an issue, so I went with cardiac (since that will also help with resistance). I am thinking I'd go Ageless for Destiny for the +Recovery bonus.
Any suggestions?
