Quote:The i17 Villain arcs I think take the game in a GREAT direction. By and large you're STILL just smashing, but you get to make various choices in-mission, as well as have conversations with people in the missions. I think the game could use a LOT more of that, along with some missions that are even more in-depth than those. Something like 45% SMASH, 35% i17 style, and 20% more in-depth would probably give more depth to the game while still allowing lots of smash. In response to DrMike, I don't think every mission should be extra complex but sometimes it seems like it swings way too hard in the other direction of "SMASH" being the only option.
The devs have done a great job renovating the engine to allow far more powerful missions, and I hope they keep up the great work. -
Quote:Tell that to my army of clones. They thought killing me would stop me. They thought killing me a half dozen times would stop me! But oh, WERE THEY WRONG!Killing enemies faster is surviving longer. Death is the ultimate debuff.

Quote:Any card that can run CoX in UM will have zero problem with TF2 (it's quite reasonable on the graphics) and should be quite good with Aion (ugh, grind fest extreme!).
I'm hoping to find one that will allow me to play City of Heroes/Villians in Ultra Mode, as well as play other games such as Team Fortress 2 and Aion without overheating and shutdown problems.
Edit: Wait a second, I'm pretty sure Inspirons are only laptops... if your machine is a laptop, it's EXTREMELY unlikely you could change/upgrade your graphics.
Edit 2: So there's Inspiron desktops now? Ugh... I had enough of Inspirons with the pile of crap known only as the 5150... -

Quote:You should ask your brother and friend what they did and what exactly the problem was. If they joined a good while back using Vista, then that could be why they had to do something special (back before the compatibility cursor was added and all that).I'm not having the problem, my brother had it and he sent in a petition and all that, then my buddy Vinny(vista) had the same problem and used the same fix. Both work perfectly now. Sonn I'm going to have another two of my friends try out the game and I figured I'd ask for the fix just in case if it was an issue it wouldn't cut into their 10 free trial.

Quote:Upping the graphical settings means the game has to load more data from disk, so longer loading times it to be expected. Get a Solid State Drive if you want to make the loading times a LOT faster without lowering graphical settings.I have a computer which is ridiculously overpowered to run CoX (I am getting fps of about 20 in full ultra mode) and I've been having significantly longer load-in times when zoning into zones (as opposed to instances -- except outdoor missions which sometimes are slow too) since i17 as well. I'm convinced that keeping track of where all the objects for shadows and relections are has made load-ins longer.

Quote:1.) Post the output here. Many of the people here have seen loads of them so will be much better at spotting any potential issues. Plus, without them we're just entirely shooting in the dark.Been through all that. Couldn't find anything wrong after running both of those programs. The more posts I've read through, seems like this is happening to a lot of people with a wide range of machines. Hopefully, they get it sorted out soon. Have a CD copy of CoH, but my computer won't read it anymore. I was going to try to do a re-install, but I'm afraid if I delete it I won't be able to re-install.
2.) You do NOT need the CDs to install CoH. Unless they're very recent, it'll likely take at least as long as using the Updater to download the game from scratch (here's the linky to the Windows version and Mac version, or if you're EU, EU Windows version, and EU Mac Version). -
It would be rather disingenuous to call it 'soloing'.
-
Kinda obvious but... City of Heroes isn't running, right? Double check by pressing ctrl+shift+escape to open Task Manager, click on the 'Processes' tab, then click on 'Image Name' to sort by the process name, and see if 'cityofheroes.exe' (or a shortened form) is listed. If it's on the list, select it and then press 'End Process', then the updater should work fine.

Quote:I'm on 7 (and prior, Vista) and haven't had to change anything with the shortcut because its long since been fixed. I'd guess it's most likely unrelated to 7/Vista, and maybe an issue with the video card's drivers (often the cause). CohHelper can create a summary of the information about your system and identify some issues to post on the boards, it should help us track down whatever problem you're having.I don't know about that, my brother had to do it about a week or two ago. He has windows 7 I think. Was really laggy and kept crashing, but then changed the shortcut and now it works just fine.
-
You don't have those files (Windows might be hiding the file extension, so it might APPEAR like it's named 'cityofheroes')? Try deleting "Coh.checksum" in C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\ to force the updater to reverify all files.
-
You can be within range of FS without being in Melee range (it's AoE is actually fairly sizable). And going in to get a FS doesn't mean you must stay there.
-
Let me introduce you to my friend Priorities. Yes, it will be fixed. But it obviously has a lower priority than many, many, many, many, many other things.
You're not the only one that pays -
Try right clicking on the shortcut you use to start CoX and selecting 'Run As Administrator' (don't use the pinned icons on the task bar on Windows 7). You don't have the appropriate permissions to update the updater, it would appear.

Please post the output from CoH Helper. Specifically, check your video card's drivers (that's what it sounds most like). It's likely that if you have a new computer fresh from the OEM, that the drivers are horribly out of date (most are VERY lazy about updating them, even if nvidia/amd have released new ones).
CoH has some funky behavior with UAC (or did, back when Vista was new), but nothing at all like that. -
EU Windows Updater: ftp://client.cityofheroes.com/EU/CohUpdater.EU.exe
EU Mac Updater: ftp://client.cityofheroes.com/EU/MAC...staller_EU.dmg
US Windows Updater: ftp://client.cityofheroes.com/US/CohUpdater.exe
US Mac Updater: ftp://client.cityofheroes.com/US/MAC...staller_US.dmg
Try redownloading it, saving it to your desktop. Once it's finished downloading, try running it by double clicking the file on your desktop. -
Which server are you on? It sounds like have the European version?
You should join your server's global channels (the name varies from server-to-server), since this is a heavily instanced game. Also, Search (/search) is your friend -
Sai... how much does AMD pay you? I could use some money for a 360
-
I did one just the day before yesterday and got about 600 (went from 580 to ~1180). That's also the number I regularly see quoted as the amount people get for raids I skip (yay for global channels!).
If it's a challenge you want, then go with an Elec/Elec Blaster -
I'd recommend uninstalling the nvidia drivers again, but this time reinstall from the drivers installer (downloading a new one if needed). It's quite likely that the restore point didn't restore all of the drivers files (such as ones related to OpenGL), which the nVidia installer should be able to fix.
-
You need to go inside the Application bundle (IIRC, it's one of the right mouse button menu options), then navigate down several directories that look similar to the path on Windows.
-
There's pretty much no laptops out there that you can switch the video cards out (not counting before you order it you 'customize' it). Most of them can have their RAM upgraded, but you might have to replace the chips instead of adding more, as well as doing some disassembly.
-
It'll either do nothing or disorient yourself (yourself is your target for Stamina, after al). In the past, you could put it in Speed Boost and be able to randomly disorient people, but they fixed that hole a while back, but I'm not sure if they also made it so you couldn't stun yourself.

There's an update for your graphics accelerator's drivers, which might help with the rendering errors.
