Expert Toons

I got the idea of making a build specific to a very unique task when I was putting around the Shard last night forever. I was poorly equipped. I had a similar problem on the TF where you fight the weakened Hami. It got me to thinking.

I want some experts. I want a toon that is a cold, hard Rikti killer. I want a ITF expert.

I'd think that the Roman smasher would be a Cold something since they aren't resistant to that. But I can't think of anything that would really ease a toon for the Rikti killing except keeping the holes out of the defense.

Thoughts?

For going up against Rikti, I've found that Elec Armor trivializes most of the damage that they deal. Elec Armor Brutes can make very good Rikti killers, with high S/L Resistance and capped Nrg Resistance. I've seen some SS/Elec Brutes farm +2/x8 RWZ missions no sweat.

Doesn't look like the Rikti are resistant to fire either. That could be fun.

When I saw you recommended electric I was hoping a claw/elec scrap I have shelved in the 20s could take over the task, but there's just too much S/L resist on the Rikti. Well, I don't have numbers, I'm just using Paragon Wiki.

Essentially, this is making a Vanguard Merit farmer.

for Rikti I'd think a Fire/Elec would do the job very well, brute or scrapper shouldn't matter. I use an elec/elec but they resist energy so it's not ideal.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

If that's your goal, you'd be much better off organizing/joining Rikti Saucer Raids for the merit-per-kill Getting 300 merits for a single run is on the low end, with 500+ fairly average.

True, but that has no challenge to it. And I've never had 500+.

I did one just the day before yesterday and got about 600 (went from 580 to ~1180). That's also the number I regularly see quoted as the amount people get for raids I skip (yay for global channels!).

If it's a challenge you want, then go with an Elec/Elec Blaster

I have a DM/SD Scrapper which easily takes then out. I routinely run the missions at +3/8 and only run into rare occasions when I have to pop Insp. Against all Odds + Soul Drain + Shield Charge is wonderful. I went with Body Mastery for extra endurance, but you could go Blaze Mastery and get another excellent AoE with Fireball.

As for the ITF expert, I've heard that SS/Invuln Brutes are the rage

ITF expert?

Fire/Dark corrupter.

I see what you did there.

I like my fire / fire (perma-)dom. She can reliably mez romans and has unassailable mez protection.

And, frankly, not much resists fire damage.

With GR, it won't matter which side you roll on

The downside is that, at current red-side prices, her build would cost elventy-billion inf.

Thankfully, if you take the character casually up to 50, the markets should be merged by the time you start heavily investing into IOs.

I find my SR scrapper does very well in the ITF.

Many times I have to pretty much solo Romi because the other team mates die.

And, if any of you remember that thread I started about getting kicked off the ITF on the last mission because the stone tank wanted to tank Romie >.> yeah... >.>

But any ways. SR can do a good job on the ITF, it can also do well against Rikti. Been the last one standing in the Mother Ship bowl before as well =). Things to think on.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

This - *IF* you know how to play it well. What makes /SR very strong against Cimerorans is that the passives can take you to capped defense debuff resistance even with just SO's. However, to make the most of this on the ITF, you pretty much need to be at the cap or - preferably - *just* above it.

The other point to bear in mind is, without hefty buffs or debuffs from the team, even your defense means little if you give them a chance to bunch up. The Cimerorans get buffs from bunching together and I'm fairly sure, from observation, that one of them is to-hit, which writes off directly against your defense. The two ways around this are team buff/debuffs to offset it, or just kite the mobs like a crazy person.
