After: Live Server Downtime - Tuesday, June 29th 2010, I am trying to get on and I can not even get past the updater. I double click and I get this: failed to rename C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe to C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.old and my version is: v1800.201002171501.1 (This has never happened to me before) TY

Try right clicking on the shortcut you use to start CoX and selecting 'Run As Administrator' (don't use the pinned icons on the task bar on Windows 7). You don't have the appropriate permissions to update the updater, it would appear.

go to C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\

Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe

Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.old

Run launcher.

Can't find those specific files in C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes and I even tried to restore my version...still not working! It's weird, my udater to log into test server still works, but not the live server updater log in! Oh man, I hope that I don't have to delete and reload everything....Oh!

You don't have those files (Windows might be hiding the file extension, so it might APPEAR like it's named 'cityofheroes')? Try deleting "Coh.checksum" in C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\ to force the updater to reverify all files.

Did that and it rechecking files....& <-----fingers crossed! NOPE, it goes through Checksumming and then when it gets to Fixing files:cityofheroes.exe, 85% then it says Updater Error! Damn it!

Kinda obvious but... City of Heroes isn't running, right? Double check by pressing ctrl+shift+escape to open Task Manager, click on the 'Processes' tab, then click on 'Image Name' to sort by the process name, and see if 'cityofheroes.exe' (or a shortened form) is listed. If it's on the list, select it and then press 'End Process', then the updater should work fine.

Go into the directory and delete any files named cityofheroes. If your system is hiding extensions you won't hurt anything because the only files in there with that name would be cityofheroes.exe and cityofheroes.old.

If that doesn't work then move cohupdater.exe to your desktop and run it from there.
