Quote:Oh I know, I've read that guide, thanks for pointing it out. I saw some crazy warshade farming, one of my friends farmed +4/x8 with a kin (not a fire/kin) in a human build to PL others, it was impressive. I also saw a 3-former farm at an impressive speed (I'm no pro farmer but it was about the same speed as the elec/shields which were all the rage when I left last time - also )I know you're speaking from a low level perspective but just so you know when your warshade is complete and you get a perma eclipse tri form build, you will be able to reach capped 85% resistance and 300% damage all by yourself with stacked mires and eclipse.
As for purples, my build has about 30% s/l defense which means they are not necessary unless I go past +2/x8 because of capped resists... But I like to keep 2-3 running on +4 and usually 1 running on +3.
The low levels are actually pretty fun in my opinion... Dechs Kaison has an awesome guide that covers the leveling process in addition to pretty much everything else about warshades. http://dechskaison.blogspot.com/2011...-warshade.html
Not that I'm interested in farming with a WS, if I want I have my 30ish SS/FA which will probably be less complicated to farm if I put some IOs (and cheaper too, I've seen cheap builds with perma hasten that were only good for the AoE chain but horrible for non farming on SS/FAs) but... I want to get past the boring levels, I found my old WS (that was before the Khled buff) was a chore before Dwarf and the pets, hence my question. -
Thanks guys!
Dp/Fire makes a lot of sense Jayboh, I read the forums once in a while when I was away... And I didn't want to make a DP/MM, I know it's a popular combo, I played so many hours on a /psy dom when the game was hard to level to get her up to perma... I know different sets but too many powers in common.
And PleasyRecycle, thanks for the breakdown on the powers. I'll probably end up taking Executioner while leveling, before a respec farther down the road (ya know, gotta have the 'big bad shot'), but it's good to know that I can leave it out later and also it's a pity it has the same DPAS as a power that can hit 2-3 AND do -res (Piercing).
Well with Burn and FSC+Hail DP/Fire is starting to look good -
Quote:I wonder if this could work with my new Warshade? Popping till damage cap and let the aura do its work? Or since the WS aura is weakish, I could wait till level 6, get Nova with a lot of attacks, pop insps and go to town since I'll have two AoE blasts?None of those characters would be very good at farming. You'd be best to roll a SS/Fire or Claws/Fire and run one of those lowbie farm maps. Now allow me the opportunity to pimp my own: Arc ID: 503858
Set Diff at +1/8 W/bosses.
Set the mission and initiate it with the contact then head to the inspiration dealer.
Pop 5 purple and 5 orange inspirations.
Pop however many reds you need to get to the 675% damage cap.
Purchase and store 5 purples and how ever many more reds you can fit in your tray.
Enter the mission and destroy the two objects in the first hallway.
Defeat enemies! When your inspirations start to fade make sure you pop the ones you have in reserve or you will almost certainly die the instant they wear off.
Sustain off of the inspirations that will drop for you.
If you went with SS/Fire, you're basically going to have to rely almost entirely on Blazing Aura to do all of the killing for you. Don't worry! That's not as bad as it sounds. Because the enemies max out at level 3, it only takes a couple of pulses to defeat them. Once you get to level 32 you can take Footstomp and go to a traditional farm. Like FRONTLOAD or Crey's Fire Cyborgs.
If you went with Claws/Fire you can have spin and blazing aura available on that map, which will give you the ability to 1 shot everything, even bosses, with a single Spin assuming you're running on tons of +damage. You can even take the map all the way to level 50 if you're crazy like I am
I had deleted a WS at 32 before I took a break.. And I wanna get to Eclipse, but the first 25-30 levels are BORING. -
Wow you got all these attacks from /fire? I was thinking about only skipping lazing aura and combustion if I went /fire because of all the pistol attacks. I can't figure out what to skip in DP.

Quote:Hey, nice build! I think it permahastened... I switched to Mu to gain an extra AoE (Elec Fences), took a slot out of Healing Flames and slotted the LoTGs where they 'belong'. Very creative build for farming intentions! Reminds me of a cheapo elec/sd build scrapper I made with permahasten that was kinda unplayable in normal content heh.I just didn't slot them in.
The 7.5 bonus from IO sets is actually different than the 7.5 granted by just the Lotg IO.
So, you can of course slot them in .. you'll gain the recharge.

Your gut answer is enough for me, and I thought Brute would still win because I remember that from your calculations the Fiery Melee Brutes were way past the usual comparing the rest of the powersets to scrappers. Anyway I'll roll one, I just have to think about a secondary, I like things with damage auras but /Dark, /Elec and /Fire might be kinda squishy with a primary with no mitigation (I love /Dark, maybe that'll be it, although I want to roll a Claws/Dark too and one of them would be left behind now... Ah coming back to the game makes you roll so many alts lol)
-
Yeah I should've been more specific, sorry. I meant to write that Shields is more expensive to softcap than a /SR, the 'original' defense powerset (although I know it's newish on Brutes). My Claws/SR and my Fm/Shields scrappers are at the same level IIRC and the /SR is already able to reach the softcap with 1 small purple while the shielder is far from that, both have the +3 steadfast unique and I think that's it (still downloading the game since I just got back).
I guess people repeat this often because they compare with tanks who are easy to softcap with shields and shields are more expensive compared to a /sr or a /nin stalker for example (I know these typed positional sets are still damn expensive), and when you talk only about SOs shields is kinda squishy because of the lower numbers than /EA, /SR, etc. -
Quote:Hey Bill, considering Fire Melee alone, which you said was the outperformer on Brutes before the fury changes, would you still say it's better on Brutes because of the DoT-affected-by-Fury thingie?40 for brute. I honestly don't know if that's affected by AT modifiers.
If it is, then scrappers should be getting 50. Mids seems to back that up. So I guess it is affected by AT mods. Holy crap that's insane on scrappers. A crit with FE up is base*buffs*3.4
Thanks! -
Hi guys, coming from a long hiatus. I just experienced DP on a free weekend and having just purchased GR (I know, maybe bad move since CoH is giving access to all subscription players but I didn't feel like waiting) I never played a DP blaster. Well I actually never played a Blaster past 30.
So what would you recommend on a secondary? I was thinking about DP/Ice. But DP seems to like a bit of melee right? What do you recommend and what are the usually skippable powers in DP?
Thanks a ton! -
I'm a lil rusty since I took a year and some hiatus but...
Invul is a solid choice, Willpower would make for easy leveling with the knockdowns on Axe helping your regen, Shields is very thematic but expensive to softcap.
Super Reflexes would help your attack chain after quickness but I don't find it very fitting with a minotaur concept -
Thanks, yup I know about things like L. Rod and S. Charge having a lower cap on Brutes and that Brutes don't benefit as much from damage-enhancing powers like AAO or Build UP because of lower base damage. I have a fm/sd scrapper which I played till 35ish before leaving.
What I don't know is about Fiery Embrace, since it works so differently now (proc damage right? My game's still downloading), does it benefit both equally? -
Goos to know this thread has been kept alive in my abscense.
-
Hi fellas, just came back after a year and some hiatus.
I have one question... In the old DPS thread by Bill Z Bubba, he got to the conclusion that Brutes outperformed Scrappers by 3% or something like that.
Now with the Fury changes Scrappers are the kings of melee DPS again.
BUT in that thread he and other people said that Brute Fiery Melee was the only one vastly superior to Scrapper's due to the ticks from Fire Attacks being augmented by Fury.
So is Brute Fire Melee still better than Scrapper's after the changes/nerfs to Fury?
Thanks. -
Maybe, if you build for defense. I'd go for a DM/Nin or DM/SR for an AV killer since you softcap, have a heal in nin and DM, and with SR you get siphon life from DM plus 95% DDR and the recharge bonus.
-
This. Especially the Longbow thing. You fight a lot more LB and ime even robots (malta for example) villainside. And groups like malta and crey show up earlier than blueside.
-
I agree with Micro. ELM on a Stalker is 10 times better than a brute/scrapper.
I love my EM/Nin Stalker and I'd roll an ELM/Nin, I have an ELM/Regen just because I'm a bit tired of /Nin. -
Quote:Or you can forget about health and put them in Fast Healing.A sort of middle of the road approach would be to take Health and slot the +recovery uniques in it. With both you would get the equivalent recovery of unslotted Stamina.
Of course you only save one power choice that way, as opposed to three power picks if you skip the Fitness pool altogether, but it's a third option anyway.
BTW OP, my DM/EA does fine without Stamina, Energy Drain is awesome. -
Quote:This. As I responded to the OP in a PM, I hate elec melee on brutes and scrappers because it takes forever to kill bosses.Elec/something is probably the way to go, then. It's the stalker primary with more or less the best overall AoE, which is what is most important on teams. You might also consider spines.
Lightning rod, as a pseudo-pet summon, unfortunately does not crit. However, it also doesn't break hide, so you can lightning rod -> thunder strike and still get a crit off of TS.
But I'm loving it on my Stalker. You can use LR and even AS with impunity after (I use TS because my elm stalker is regen, but on a defensive set you can even use AS and complete it most of the time in the middle of a mob).
Even at low levels, if you position yourself from Hide with Jacob's Ladder and hit say, 3 guys, it's very possible JL will crit on one or two, making it worth already, since JL has high damage and ST attack end cost and recharge. Melee cones can be beautiful with practice. Chain Induction is also great to use from Hide since iirc it always crits on the target and you still get the jumps to other mobs, although CI costs more end and does less damage than JL. -
Quote:I agree with this. TF is awesome and ET too, even after the nerfs to both powers (cmon bring TF's mag 4 stun back, S. Smash has a mag 4 hold dammitI seem to care less about longer animations than most people I know, but I find Energy Transfer and Total Focus to be must-haves. The two solid heavy-hitters. Then again, I'm also not known to pare down my attack chains to just what's necessary, so I'm probably not someone to listen to about this...
). I'd never skip either of them.
And as Frosticus said, TF crits does equal damage to ET so if you skip one, skip TF, since it doesn't stun bosses anymore and it's not like a /SR will care a lot if your ET manages to stun a lt or not.
Also, I may be wrong because I'm still learning about attack chains since I almost always team, but E. Punch is better than Barrage imo even after the changes. -
Btw don't put the Stupefy KB proc on OG. I did this once, it's fun but terrible lol.
-
All ok here. Used on Firefox and Chrome, on both Mac OS X and Windows XP.

Quote:Donoman99, if your problem is only the mouse cursor, try to change it in advanced gfx options, mouse cursor from 'color' to 'compatibility' mode (I think it's called this, it's the option that makes your mouse cursor look kinda low-res and don't change colors lol).As for the free space on the drives; this has never been as issue in the past. The drives have been at these capacities for years and has never been a problem playing the game. It's more of a graphical problem, that replicates even in safe mode. The mouse blinks and doesn't want to stay solid so I can see where it is.
I had to do this after i17 for my cursor to work properly. -
I had Brawl 4-slotted for acc and damage on my first toon at level 20. She was a controller.

Quote:Yes for tough, yes for surviving well without defense.A couple of questions on this. Do you need tough in an Elec build? What about weave? If you ignore defense can you survive reasonably well?
Seems like a fun character, but I keep playing in Mids and thinking that it's a really really tight build that I'd have to give up a lot to make work.
Yes, Elec Armor makes tight builds no matter your primary.
As for Weave... unless you are shooting for at least 25% defense (preferably for melee or s/l) via Weave, CJ and especially IOs, it's not worth it. -
The train lines are the equivalent to to the Rogue Isles Ferry. Except that there are two lines, yellow (for the lower level areas) and green (others). Places like Steel Canyon have both train lines.
From AP to Galaxy, just go northwest of the huge Atlas statue and the train will take you to Galaxy.
