Why is Archery awesome? (or: the Lethal blues)

Just a curious question, actually. I'm currently playing a claws Stalker, and fighting through wave after wave after wave of lethal-resistant Longbow. Makes a guy feel lacking. I'm thinking back to my days as an archery blaster -- granted, I wasn't fighting Longbow, but both of these sets primarily use Lethal damage. Why does Archery seem to get the job done so much more efficiently?

You highlighted one of the reasons. Longbow suck and you don't fight them hero side.

The other is that Rain of Arrows is just that good.

Probably because it was a Blaster.

Did your archer have typed damage from the secondary? but also, Rain of Arrows is pretty amazing.

Edit: Also, if you think longbow suck, try an all robot council mission.

Robots will resist more damage, but Longbow tend to be far nastier to fight than any robots (unless they are all energy blasting robots and you have no knockback protection, or all rad-blasting robots and you are a defense build with little/no DDR).\

As to why Archery wins: You're a blaster, you have Aim + BU + RoA, you are probably doing more AoE damage (and therefore much more damage overall given a large number of baddies), and heroes don't really fight Longbow outside of the RWZ.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

He's specifically asking about his claws stalker vs longbow. Having taken a few different lethal sets against all robot council missions I can say that while they aren't as deadly as longbow, they are far more frustrating. But I agree 100% the longbow are more dangerous.

This. Especially the Longbow thing. You fight a lot more LB and ime even robots (malta for example) villainside. And groups like malta and crey show up earlier than blueside.

True, though the higher damage mod for Blasters and Defiance makes a huge difference (not to mention that you can often get Aim as well as Build Up), as well as all the ranged AOE.

I would agree that there are a lot of annoying resists redside, though. Not that my Nin/Nin Stalker had any more issues than my Katana Scrapper.

Well the Stalker damage increase and what not has helped there. I leveled my Nin/Nin up to 50 before that all came along and it often did feel like I was wielding a cardboard tube against at least the boss-rank (and higher) enemies with lethal resist. Warwolves, Robots, Malta, Rikti and perhaps worst of all... Longbow Ballistae. Ugh!

Those enemies still suck, but it's not as bad as it once was especially if I've got a team around me boosting my crit rate.

Yup, that does help a lot. I also picked up the Achilles -res proc for Gambler's Cut, which also helps. Bloody expensive, but I notice when it's active on a mob.

Rain of arrows properly slotted with aim and build up has the ability to kill all the minions in the spawn in a pre emptive strike. That action will reduce the expected killing power of a spawn to 1/4 or less what it was before the rain of arrows. You can usually take out the lieutenants with it as well or take them all out with a follow up aoe.

So look at how your fight evolves, two strikes from archery and you are left just fighting bosses. Two strikes from a stalker set you are still fighting the boss and everything else as well

EDIT: Other blast sets will perform similarly. AR, and fire can deliver comparable aoe damage, energy can disable most of a spawn with kb.

I'd like to point out that you only fight Longbow in 3 missions, only one of which is a mission only full of Longbow.

Talk to Archery Blasters after GR comes out and they have to go against Longbow constantly.
