Quote:The Arch/MM 'pro farmers' at the time said nothing survived BU+AIM+RoA+fistful, they used to cap ranged defense and had these powers on 20ish second cooldowns. And on the few survivors they used drain psyche to regen and recover. That's why the combo was liked, was almost the speed of a good fire/kin with much less clickyness. Then elec/shields appeared, already softcapped and with crazy recharge on the telenukes (20ish too), even fewer clicks to farm. Hell I havea elec/shield build I made just for fun, it's basically unplayable below level 50 but cheap as hell and has 102% rech, you can farm all day long with it.I have to say I must be behind 3 years. I just do not see how a Blaster with AOEs and a high recharge can survive a 4/8 setting for a farm. If anything the IOs are somewhat built in the sense you either capping one thing or another. But your not going to be able to get Resistances up high enough along with recharge persay. I do not think that a blaster can kill a group of mobs which includes several purple mobs before the mobs can strike back. The only way I can this sort of being accomplished is via Boost Range. But again your not going to have it up every attack and eventually they will come in on you. Even hover blasting by the vators persay in the Crey farm will not afford you survivability unless your range defense capped.
Resistance are great when combined with something else. I could see if you had 60% resistance and then 25% Positional defense as it relates to those mobs. Assuming you had some decent recovery as well. Other wise you will not be able to recover enough hit point in between hits from mobs.
Also Being defense capped means a equal level mob has a 1 in 13 attack chance of hitting you I believe. Where as resistance is a simple take a percentage of damage off the hits. So I think if you add up the numbers of being at 50% resistance ( think 75% is the max ) against 10 equal con mobs doing 100 dps attack each per attack which means you will get hit for at most 500 dps if all 10 connect. Since you have no defenses you have a 50% chance of getting hit. So even if you went with 50/50 split your getting 250 points of damage every time 10 mobs attack ( 5 missing each attack ).
Defense wise at 45% softcap 1 even con minion has a 5% chance of hitting you. 10 mobs at 5% chance of hitting. You have a 51% chance to have dodged 13 attacks from an even con mob. You only have a 2% chance of getting hit by 2 attacks within that 13 attack period.
End result 10 mobs hitting me at Range cap for 2 sets of attacks is very unlikely. Where as 10 mobs hitting you for 2 attacks for a total of 500 DPS is very likely.
I am not even discussing bosses or even LT that are going to be at +3 on a 4/8 setting. A +2 LT will have a 78% chance to hit you with no defenses and we all know they will do much more damage then the 100 dps persay.
So all I'm saying is you will not be able to run a 4/8 setting with no defenses and just AOE and recharge alone and hope to survive on just a tray of inspirations or hope to be able to get 3 of the same inspirations to make what you need, when you need it. Either way I think its poor management of expecting success on the drop of a random item that you hope you get 3 of the same or the right inspiration to do what you need.
I would rather be Ranged Defense capped and have a high regeneration as I am with my measly AR Device, which I think we can just about agree is one of the lowest if not lowest damage types for blasters. And hover blast a Crey Fire farm on a 4/8 setting and make reds to increase my dps instead of worrying about when is this purple inspiration going to expire and tank my defense down to nothing.
I can be totally wrong and be misunderstanding some game mechanic, but I would love to see these high recharge aoe builds solo a 4/8 farm. I just don't see it happening to be honest.
Even at 75% resistance cap I just don't see this model happening with bosses tossed into the mix. If fire toons can kill a group of mobs with bosses included with one quick attack chain on a steady basis everyone would be doing it.
Again I can be wrong but I would love to see it, I am more then happy to learn something new.
BTW here is the link of my data. Have to give credit where credit is due.

Anyway my friend, you're thinking it the wrong way. Inspirations rain from the sky when farming. Remember all those fire/kin/stone capped to s/l to farm battle maiden? I farmed a bit on my fire/kin (built him with the intention of farming but played all the way from 1 to 50, got called on every STF or Mo-whatever my coalition would do and when it was time to farm I got sick of the toon), but the little I farmed, I never saw the need to get past 30% defense because of inspirations.
How do you think Brutes, all built for recharge, farm ambush missions? By popping 4 small lucks. Yesterday I entered one of those with my TANK, just had 2 lucks so my def was about 35-36% (had a buff from a lowbie cold before entering so it was about 25+11) and I was one shotted instantly. From range, with weak throwing knives because the mobs were dual blades. Today I got a brute to 12 in 20 minutes in the same farm, I just had to make sure I had 4 lucks on me all the time (50% def), these ambush farms are great for them because fury enhances their damage so much at the aggro cap, you can PL yourlself from level 1 only using your damage aura.
EDIT: lookie what I found! -
Quote:Funny isn't it?Word.
That said, I will have to look up some archery farming. I was here before the shield craze, and that whole people farming with archery must have passed me right by.
Half the blaster forums with threads about arch/mm, then they suddenly died for a thousand threads about elec/sd scrappers. The only farmer that remained constant all the time in the forum threads were fire/kins, but since I came back (4 days ago) it seems they died too, everyone is bowing down to the almighty SS/Fire Brute, the toon that can even PL himself.
-
I like Combustion, but on my Tanker. And I wish Brutes and Scrappers had it since their other AoE (Breath of Fire) sucks so theyre left only with FSC and APPs.
I don't like it on my blasters. Ok I never played a blaster past 30 but I already feel like I'm crazy doing 0/x2 before DOs - inspiration usage and running away are common, I'm used to squishies but... Corrs, Doms, Trollers, who can debuff or incapacitate the enemy heavily before.
Playing a Blaster solo feels like I'm about to die any moment, I'd never pick Combustion. That doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the experience

Quote:This one is awesome, I got a newly made dark/dark brute to 12 in two runs, like less than half an hour (Shadow Maul is great on these maps since it recharges quick and is affected by Fury). I took 5 hours, teaming at +2, to get my claws/da Brute in praetoria to this level lol. These have been around in the farming circles for a while now. I don't think this is too bad, given Brutes with damage auras are the only ones that can really make the best use of these maps.
There are a bunch of these on AE right now with varying effectiveness. I made an optimized version for max XP/inf capped at level 1: try arc 504915 if you're looking to do this. (Ambushes triggered off of enemies rather than objects work better, as you can lure both ambush triggers to the same spot so they all congregate in the same area. You also want an open map, otherwise you get shoved against a wall and that limits your AoEs and you waste time repositioning yourself) -
Yup I plan to, as in all my squishies. Don't have it yet (she's 8 I think, and I'm solo exploring the story in Praetoria so leveling will be a bit slow even at 0/x2) but even without CJ I'm doing fine with the cone, I had lots of practice with Fire Breath and the melee ones like Shadow Maul and Jacob's Ladder I can use well. I usually hit my desired targets with a quick leap back, and with CJ it'll only get better
-
Thanks a lot! I never bothered with bind files but in this case of insp combining they seem very useful (I'm not used to playing melee, mostly controllers and doms so I never cared too much about insps except breakfress and maybe an awaken now and then lol, and with the ambush 'thingies' I'm finding combining quickly does wonders, I'm using your macros and really noticed a difference).

Quote:Thanks Micro, I guess when the build is finished bolt may be unnecessary, I use it a lot now but I'm only 22 and have no SOs yet, stopped playing to try DP (just got GR)Well, first things, don't use Dark Nova Bolt at all. It's crap. Just alternate Dark Nova Blast with Nova AoE's and you'll end up with better dps, as long as you have the recharge to do so (not terribly difficult). That will also save you some slots. I'll see if I can scrounge up some builds.
Edit how about this: tell us exactly what your goals are (besides perma-eclipse) and I will see what I can come up with that works.
Well in the last 15 minutes I came up with this... (I got Orbiting Debt just because I find it cool and I love damage auras) - tryin' not to use purples except the pet ones for now, probably I'll get the Stun ones too.

Quote:Yup. An a great guide (by Iscariot I believe) when I made my original one. But he got deleted at 33ish, I'm just curious about builds, I know what I want in my head but it's getting harder to find slots for all those nova blasts and dwarf attacks besides eclipse and etc. Basically I want to see some high end slotting because I'm having trouble with it. Small things like, 'damn will I have to leave dark nova bolt with a HO acc/dam?'. Or the lack of useful powers to pick in the end, I wanna see what people are getting that can be of some use instead of only a LoTG mule.Did you read the MFing Warshade?
-
Hey Neo since I don't wanna hijack your thread, could you PM me your Claws/Dark build? I have a build made, the toon is in her 20s but I don't think my build accomplishes anything spectacular. If you'd rather not share I'll start a thread. Thanks!
-
Cmon stop arguing about Eclipse and keep the builds comin' I have a 20 WS I'm leveling and need some orientation
-
STONE MELEE WILL MURDER YOUR BLUE BAR, BE WARNED.
(But it's great, best SMASH feel on a Brute)
I don't have a shields Broot but my stone/elec was the only toon ever to run out of end while speed boosted (and I had her all set with SOs, endurance before damage, etc). But after I got my end under control it was worth it, Stone Melee is too much fun, but the AoE is meh (Tremor, Fault is awesome but will deal no damage, I could tank with my squishy pre-ELA buff stone/elec in my teens because of Fault, and to be honest I rn out of endo that time because I was tanking for the team in a SF in my 20s so I was spamming Fault)
Try it, it's a very fun set. If you're afraid of the endurance comsumption try a /will but shields sound like fun although I don't like shields on a Brute (low base damage, low damage cap for charge so it's better on a scrapper). -
Quote:Oh yeah youre right. In the OP'map insps were raining since my ST blasts actually damaged the foes unlike with orbiting death witch is a tanker-level damage aura. I also avoided lots of attacks.Dark Nova is *much* better than human form with Orbiting Death, I think. The damage from the AoEs is better (and I believe but can't at this moment confirm have a higher target cap), the single target attacks are also better (although by less exciting a margin, I believe), and being able to hover adds major survivability. The OP's map isn't high enough to outdistance enemy attacks entirely, which might be possible on some maps. (I'm pretty sure scatter would become a serious issue in such a case, but who knows, it might be worth experimenting with.) But the hovering is still enough to avoid a lot. (It's a technique I've tried on some other things too, with mixed success, but that's a report for another day.)
My usual loadout while doing this on squishier characters is to have 4 orange, 4 purple, 4 red running when I open fire, and trying to bring a couple extra greens along. That seems to work fairly well on anything that works at all.
I was able to survive much longer, and I think my major failure (just did 2 runs) was not having set up a macro to make greens and another for purples, at times I had too many useless insps because I'm still level 12 or something. So I think it's very doable hoverblasting at this level if you manage your defense and health. Oranges are good too especially since Khleds have a 85% resist cap.
Oh btw the target cap is 10 on the cone and 16 on the AoE blast
(Edit: doing really well now at 0/x8 on the OP's map with macros for health and purps - Neo's map still gives me trouble, I have difficulty maneuvering with all those things in the ceiling, and the mobs' ranged attacks are a bit stronger it seems, since some throw fire while in the OP's map they are weakish knives - but yeah this must be really easy for a Brute) -
Recovery Aura already gives TON of recovery, 4 times speed boost iirc, and you never see speed boosted people complaining about end (except my stone melee/elec brute but boy she was heavy on the blue before power sink), so I didn't feel the need to use a set.
I don't have Ressurrect (easy to make wakies and CM+heal somebody to full after that) but I'd leave it at 1 slot with recharge especially since you'll have some recharge bonuses. I also don't have AP because healing is kinda moot in the late game, but I have a mind/emp controller so I had a tighter build (and lots of crowd control so I needed to heal less) and it's not updated for inherent fitness, I'd probably fit Ressurrect back now, not sure if I'd put Absord Pain back in.
I find endmods important in Adren Boost because it goes over the -1000% blaster nuke recovery. Regen Aura OTOH is already Instant Healing levels IIRC (just came back) so you'll be fine with 3 recharges in there although I put healing to get the 2.5% recovery bonuses from Miracle.

And there's painfully BORING too, that change may make me play a shielder for the first time. Got burned out by all my playtime with emps and kins, but with shield sets you kinda feel obliged to keep them on the whole team all the time, half the team can live without SB for some seconds or minutes even, and fort cannot be cast on everyone anyway even on a permahasten emp which I have.

Awesome guide!
Well since I wanted to bump this guide (just returned to the game) and I use a lot of binds and macros, but I never made a bind file, guess this is a good place as any to ask or to be directed to a link, so where should I put something like this:
Quote:defense.txt I just save the file with the .txt name (in which folder btw?) and iirc there's a command for loading them right?Quote:w "+forward$$inspcombine insight luck$$inspcombine enrage luck$$inspcombine catch_a_breath luck$$inspcombine respite luck$$inspcombine sturdy luck$$inspcombine break_free luck$$inspcombine awaken luck"

mousechord "inspexecname phenomenal_luck$$inspexecname good_luck$$inspexecname luck" -
Well right before I left when everyone was using elec/shield scrappers for farming, lots of people were farming with arch/mm, it was fotm for farming in the forums for awhile before shields arrived. Most said it was very close to fire/kin speed but a lot less tiresome.

Quote:Dude I'll try to be nice, and not bash on you, but 7 years is a lot of time. Half the marriages don't last this long, and going to a more direct comparison, most consoles with their myriad of games don't last that long too.I've been on this game for 7 years. Most of my friends stopped playing years ago because they felt it was getting too repetitive and I keep trying to convince them to start playing again every time new content gets added but this time around. I don't think I could convince anyone that the game isn't repetitive when I don't even believe it myself.
It's just a game, of course it will get boring to you. I always say my fav game of all time is Final Fantasy X, I played through it twice and cannot fathom gooing thru it again, so it's... 40-50 hours I got from I game I absolutely love. Think how much you got from CoH.
I'm on my second 'comeback', I have a 27-month vet badge, and after 1.5 years I had done everything, had my MOs badges, etc, so I quit the game. If you were able to enjoy it for seven years non stop, grats to you, that's more than most people, but I really don't think that after playing all his time you have the right to complain it got 'too' repetitive and boring. Especially since this is a MMO, all MMOs suffer from the same thing unless you do a major revamp (and then you may lose all the players like we did on PvP here and Star Wars did).
So chill out, I know it may be hard to find a quality MMO with fast paced action like this one (only reason I'm coming back btw) but it's not the end of the world. If you never took a break, take one, it may do wonders for you. -
Quote:WSs get a damage aura at 4 and no AoE (well there's Nova at 6 but you cannot use with the dmg aura)You should give my map or the OPs map a try. If you have a damage aura and an AoE attack before level 8, you can do these maps. You won't be as fast or efficient as a brute, but it'll probably work.
I am having moderate success (as in, 2 levels a run) with the OP's map set at -1/x8, in yours I had trouble surviving. Still trying to sort out the ideal insp mix since my tray is still limited, reds help a ton, especially since I have no good attacks (AoE or ST even) but the OP's map definitely can help you level fast in any toon set for -1/x8, I'll try now with my nova form which at this level gives me 2 blaster level AoEs (they of course get outclassed by blasters later but a Nova form is the best AoE dealer in the game at this level I think - well except in those farms where Fury is a factor but I think it's the fastest Ive leveled) -
Quote:Yeah I know, I alredy wrote that if I decided to IO this toon a lot then I'd switch to scorpion shield and etc so I can get good rech and def, but Bonfire and RoTP seem like fun powers to try, never had them. Besides I like to team a lot and I have 'sturdier' projects to solo while I don't decide if I wanna min-max the toon. How much defense are you going for? How much recharge? Without scorpion or ice shield, hitting the soft-caps may really strain the build. In addition, I probably wouldn't take assault over maneuvers, you'll need the defense from maneuvers much more than the small damage buff of assault and maneuvers takes the LoTG proc for your recharge goal.
The next bit purely personal preference: if you're going to be in melee with hotfeet, burn, fire sword circle, etc., don't you think it will be hard to maximize the empty clips cone? This is of course compared to combustion. I know, I know combustion has a bad rap. However, in the powerset comparison in Mids' it shows combustion having the better dpa, dps, dpe, and damage. I looked at it both with and without Arcana time checked in the options. Not to mention, combustion has a larger radius than fire sword circle making it a good follow up move for FSC as enemies start to run away.
As for the cone.... It seems like it's the same radius and range as Fire Breath, and with combat jumping and hurdle, I never had trouble using Fire Breath effectively on my Fire/Fire blaster and my Fire/Traps Corr (which is 50 and still has it). And I really hate Combustion except on my Ice/Fire Tanker. Since I won't be in melee 100% of the time especially on the lower levels I think I can get more mileage of Empty Clips than Combustion, with CJ+Hurdle you jump straight up in melee and hit foes anyway.
Now that Strato said Piercing Rounds doesn't seem all that hot (too narrow I thought it was 20 degrees or something), I'll try it since I have a lot of respecs on any new toon but in the end I'll probably keep things like Executioner out after the 'wow' factor is gone. -

WM/Will, lotsa mitigation for your regen to compensate. Should be smooth even at low levels.
Wm/Dark would be a serious contender if it were not for the fact that with your mez aura plus stuns in WM, you may have difficulty gaining fury (a WM/DA friend of mine said his Brute was the best Tank he'd ever made because the enemies were all stunned - but he had low fury all the time, that's why he called him a Tank) -
Any good farms for a lowbie Warshade? I CAN GET A DAMAGE AURA (ok it's a crappy one)!
Seriously, I need something that's not meant for Brutes only... Any hints? Thanks (I know this is the Brute forums but I don't wanna start a farming thread having just come back to this game) -
I guess this seems like a fun build to level up (I want to test some powers like Bonfire to see if it has any mitigation value, if I get to expensive IOing and stuff I'll go to the route of recharge and s/l/e defense through Scorpion Shield)
Sooo what do you guys think? Problem is, I have no idea if I'll be able to slot so many powers well.

+1 for this thread, just came back after nerdraging because of a totally silent nerf to my old computer's intel GMA 950 GPU.
I'm still enjoying Praetoria and Ultra Mode to bother with all this Incarnate stuff right now (respeccing all my IO-heavy toons to inherent stamina and the changes to Domis, dark melee and others? Too much to do now, NEW ALTS!) -
Quote:Oh I'm sure it is, but I have too many toons (mainly controllers and some corrs, and a high level defender, never liked them much) with buffing/debuffing powersets.I don't want to pull you away from making a blaster, but you should consider making a dual pistols corruptor. My DP/Kin just hit 50, and it was the most fun I have ever had leveling a toon.
Fulcrum Shift+Hail of Bullets+Scourge=Awesome!
Now after my absence I wanna do 'I only care about MEH!' toons. I even made a Fire/Kin for farming, all tricked out, s/l capped etc and I hardly farmed with him because I played support and control so much I was good at both (I suck at blasters) so people were always calling my fire/kin to MoSTFs and I am sick of the powerset (that's why after he was all 'ready' with IOs to be a great farmer I stopped playing him lol)
I liked the idea of DP/FIRE because of Burn, FSC and Hot Feet, three powers that would mesh well with DP. I know /MM is phenomenal, hell I went to 50 with an ice/psi dom running Arctic Air (a very expensive toglle) 24/7 without ever taking Stamina because Drain Psyche was THAT good (dunno if the numbers are the same on a blaster), also it let me nuke spam PSW in the middle of Cimerorans because of the crazy regen... that's before IOs even. And I know the benefits of /EM.
But the changes to Burn, the melee nature of DP, hot feet with its huge radius to make them run (I love damage auras) convinced me on going DP/Fire
