Guys, as these 'SG Specific' threads seem to be appearing quite regularly, I'm guessing a lot of you may not know about what's discussed HERE
If one of you can point it out to the SG/VG leaders, it would be appreciated. -
After zipping thorught this in an hour last night, I now need to re-run it tonight as one of my team didn't get the respec or the badge(despite being in the level range and having already done the first respec and having the badge)
I'll probably get some 40's from my VG to help out and fill the team but if you do need it, send me a tell in game on @Kinslayer from about 17.30 onwards and I'll see if there are some spots free. -

well i teamed with a lvl 49 archer a while bk and i think he was the first arch to hit 50.
[/ QUOTE ]
If that was on Union it would be Twilight Archer from my SG. Even more scary is the fact the 50 ding could have happened a lot sooner due to the time spent at Galaxy Girl RP'ing. -
OK,
I re-rolled as an ice/ice and have got him up to lvl 10 now and realise I still have absolutely no idea how to build him for PvP due to the slots.
Compared to my main PvE alt, a fire corruptor, he seems to have quite high end cost and very long recharge.
Now I know that PvP pretty much requires 2 acc in all powers so if I have 4 slots left how should I use them?
Primary Powers
I'm guessing these will all need the 2 acc and 3 damage so have a choice of slow, recharge reduction and end reduction in the final slot. I'm leaning towards recharge reduction as I'm guessing the slow part on them is negligible and I should be able to get a chain going without recharge reductions next time I take a primary.
Secondary Powers
Again, the 2 acc is pretty much compulsory so i'm left with 4 slots and this seems a lot trickier than the primaries. These are the guys that seem to be burning my end so I'll have to put an end reduction on them. With my last 3 slots, should I be going for 3 slows or also sticking a recharge reduction in as they seem to be quite slow to recharge?
I will be putting a 3 slotted hasten and stamina in the build in time for SO's and all of this is from playing with TO's so can I expect the recharge and end costs to become much less of a problem once I get SO's or is Ice/Ice still an end burner in PvP?
BTW, thanks for all the advice guys. As a dedicated PvE'er I know most of the powers but I have no idea how effective they are in PvP so any feedback is really appreciated. -

the mission computer is a salvage built extra item for the control room in SG base. Don't bother yet, the cathedral of pain seems as the only possible mission and its not available yet.

If you're playing on CoV, there is the Silver Mantis TF to do. On CoH, it DID appear as an option at one point but seems to have been removed entirely now. -
SG/VG Name: The Bloodline
Server: Union
Hero/Villan: Villain VG
Raidable: Yup
Player Amount: Can normally rustle up a full raid team
Contact: @Kinslayer
Week nights from 19.00GMT onwards are best -
Hi guys.
My VG is looking to do a few raids and have been having trouble finding groups to raid. If anyone fancies arranging having a go, post here or catch me in game on @Kinslayer -

Well, like I said there's the 1AT coalition, basically just like one big SG.
So:
Blasters: Precision Rangers
Scrappers: Team G.B.H.
Controllers: Union Overlords
Tankers: Armoured Core
Defenders: SNHS
I'm sure someone'll post who to bug for an invite if you want one, I can't remember, it's late
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, although I'm not a member, we are in coalition with most of the 1AT's and I can recomend them. If not those, Last Line Of Defence are also a great SG.
Would recomend mine as well but we seem to be a little quiet of late as everyone is off on CoV -
*sigh*
Well, after reaching the dizzying heights of lvl 3, looks like I'll be rerolling now for an ice/ice -
[ QUOTE ]
Rad/ice? surely you mean Ice/rad?
The rad blast set isn't up to much compared with ice blast, since it's largely AoE attacks
[/ QUOTE ]
I went for Ice secondary as I heard the recharge and damage on the primary were both poor but that the secondary was excellent for PvP.
Have I chose the wrong Primary? Only up to level 3 at the moment so can re-roll him if another primary is better? -
OK,
I've gone with Rad/Ice so if i'm not a PvP god in one week, I'll blame you lot for poor advice!
Pool wise, I'll be going for Combat Jump, Acrobatics, Super Jump, Swift, Health, Stamina, Hasten, Whirlwind(plus one of the others to allow whirlwind), TP Foe. Bit of a pain having to waste a power to fit Whirlwind in but can't be avoided.
From the Rad/Ice pools, what are my must have powers and the recomended slotting?
If anyone has a Rad/Ice PvP build and has got a hero planner of it(or can come up with one for this build), I'd be interested in seeing it. -

Hmm, I was looking at a pure Ice/Ice build but heard that the animation on it was quite slow and the damage was amongst the lowest for Corruptor primaries. Is that wrong?
Also, worth pointing out that this build is mainly for raids, rather than PvP zones. That in mind, heres what I'm looking at.
Primary
Ice: -Recharge sounds good but i'm expecting any raid team worth it's salt to have kinetics in so not too sure how effective it will be
Dark: Again, slotting the -Acc seems a good idea but as most PvP'ers tend to go heavy on Acc SO's, not too sure about it again.
Rad: Mainly energy damage which most people can defend against quite well, the -Def looks OK though.
Secondary
Ice Domination - Heard this is one of the best and the high level debuff in the set can drop damage output on enemies by 50%. will be going with this.
Pools
Speed: Hasten is a must and I've seen what a pain whirlwind can be(though not as effective as the storm set version)
Fitness: 'ED will mean there are no more must have powers'. No chance, still need stamina in almost every build
Leaping: Combat Jump and Acrobatics are about the only mez resistance I can get so gotta take em.
4th pool? Not sure whether to take a 4th pool or just invest extra in my primary/secondary. If I do, I guess concealment could be good but 3 powers to get phase shift seems a bit wasteful for a panic button. The other option is to take TP foe.
Any advice welcomed!
I've never been hot on the numbers side of the game and I've only ventured to PvP zones for the badges there. Despite that, the base raid bug has really bit me so any advice or comments on the above would be great. Any powers to avoid from the sets i'm looking at? Any must have powers? Any slotting advice?
I'm hoping that this alt will also be working as part of a team of dedicated PvP builds for base raids. Looking at a couple of grav doms, a kinetic and rad corruptor, and a few brutes to round it out(just need to get the rest of my VG to pull their finger out). any tips on complementary AT's or just general 'this is a PvP uber build' comments would be appreciated. -
Quick question, what is a good Primary for a corruptor with Ice secondary PvP wise?
Not too hot on PvP so looking for advice. -
On a related note, take a look at this site
www.mmoart.com
The quality of these is unbelievable. I was VERY tempted to try and get one done featuring my CoV/CoH characters facing off and framing it on the wall in my house...
Then I realised that no matter how I explained it to visitors, the fact I'd spent a couple of hundred quid on a painting of two computer game characters would condemn me to geekhood for eternity -
Well,
The one that took place just before Christmas actually went quite well and that was a bit slap dash in the organisation stakes. The person who organised it had a R/L issue which meant he couldn't make it and no one else had really had much experience of running one before.
Despite that, the Mito clearing went ridiculously well and after a call for trollers over every channel, we actually came close to doing it.
With there not being a successfull one in so long and so many new lvl 50's, I think this one has a good chance.
I've got about 20 lvl 50's in my SG and and also have a lot of 40+'s so I'll be doing my best to try and get them all involved, as well as PL'ing those trollers who are close to reaching 45. I think you can safely count on the NBR to provide 2 or 3 lvl 50 trollers plus 5 or 6 lvl 45+ ones. We'll also have 10+ other AT's I can drag along.
I've posted on our forum about it and I'll also post on our coalitions forum to see if I can pester some of the LLOD guys to come along. -
Count D-Zol, lvl 50 fire/ice tank in.

As Jiazoy says, not worth slotting at all. If you do have an aura of some sort, then a taunt or two in there is definitely worth it but there is also debate on whether slotting taunts in 'taunt' itself is worth the slots.
The way taunt enhances work is that they don't allow you to taunt more targets or even get the taunt itself to aggro an enemy more efeectively, all they do is increase the length of time a taunt lasts.
So, if you have a 3 recharge reduction taunt and the same in hasten, it's very rare an individual taunt will wear off before you can re-taunt anyway. The same is true of any aura. As the aura's hit very quickly, there is absolutely no need to put taunt duration in as the in built 'punchvoke' will not have worn off before the next cycle of the aura hits.
I think i've put one taunt in Blazing Aura and Taunt just to be safe, mainly because BA can miss now and then, but other than that, there are much better ways to spend slots and the benefit of slotting taunts will really be hardly noticeable. -
To a certain extent, I feel that Cryptic themselves are to blame for some of the bad SG experiences people are having nowadays. Before prestige, there was no reason to have SG members unless you wanted them. This meant that SG's were about quality rather than quantity.
The introduction of prestige really has made a big change in SG dynamics as people are invited to SG's very quickly with none of the getting know the SG/player that went on before prestige. The upshot is that potentially good players are quickly snapped up by SG's that may be less than ideal, have bad experiences and are put off the idea of SG's. Failing that, they stay in these bad SG's and spend their time stuck in one that is less than ideal while those that are good are struggling to find good players to invite. -
My main is a level 40 Fire/thermal and I've not had any problems defence wise. I've also got the benefit of having another level 40 fire/thermal in my VG who is a completely different build.
My build is, like yours, team oriented with heavy use of the secondaries anbd the other one in my VG is pure offence. It's amazing how two builds with the same primary/secondary can be so diverse.
Get both heals six slotted ASAP with 3 recharge reduction and 3 heals as these are what will keep you and the team up. lvl 22 and SO's will make a huge difference. Pool wise, I've gone for the SS/Stealth combo as it's about the best defence bonus you'll get. I'd also advise having 3 recharge redctions in Haste by lvl 22 to get those heals recycling that much quicker.
Other than that, your single target buff and debuff(can't remember there names) are good but not worth spending too many slots on. Melt Armour really is the king of the set though and 6 slots ASAP are great in it though it is a bit of an aggro magnet. 3 slots in each shield and 3 slotted stamina also round you off nicely, as well as 3 in the rez. With Speed, Fitness, Concealment already taken care of, I took TP Friend for my fourth pool so I could TP people clear for rez. Being able to SS/Stealth and TP people in also helps for tough missions.
Offence wise, I've got fire blast, blaze, the snipe one and nova. these are the only offences i've gone for to make the most of the secondary set.
I'm AFK until Tuesday but if you want me to post my build then, just drop me a PM. -
I know this may offend some people so please don't take this as an invitation to flame but I do know what you mean and would suggest that maybe a change of server could help?
I started out on Defiant and still have a few alts there but after a couple of months playing the game, I switched to Union and have to say that I've never looked back. Maybe this is generalising but, while I wouldn't use the word 'clique', Defiant does seem to attract a different breed of player.
I've found that on Defiant, there are a lot more what I would call hard core power gamers. The phrase 'pressure cooker' springs to mind and a 'work hard, play hard' mentality. Union on the other hand, maybe because it's the unofficial RP server, seems to attract the more relaxed player.
On the other hand, I have recently ventured onto Defiant a little more for a simple reason. It's all new.
Knowing very few people on there and starting a new alt from level 1 has livened up my appreciation of the game as I don't have a successful SG on there to guarantee me teams, don't have all my excellent coalition buddies and so on. It has been a little frustrating teaming from level 1 due to the 'noob' factor involved but it's also been quite nice being forced to start from scratch again.
This has basically led me back to getting much of the enjoyment from the early days of the game and if you're not quite ready to quit the game, I can recomend rolling a level 1 on a new server. I can even help out if you do jump to Union as the last 4 months of my playing time on there have seen the community being what's keeping me going, rather than the game itself.
That aside, I've been playing CoH since day one and during that time I've been forced to take 2 prolonged breaks, one around ED time of about 6 weeks and another one mid January of a month which I've just returned from. Both times I missed the game quite a bit, even though I had been feeling a little bored in the run up to them. The one thing I did learn is that returning from each break I saw players who I 'grew up' with in the game hade also got jaded and were leaving the game while each time I returned, my appetite for it was definitely re-charged. If not for those breaks, I think I would probably be cancelling my subscription about now but because of them I will certainly be around for another few months at least.
On the whole, I think a lot of the jadedness in the game at the moment was inevitable. All the 'day 1' players have been playing for a year now and new content has been minimal for CoH due to CoV and ED plus other 'balance vision' nerfs. This has led to many players leaving since the CoV launch and the servers on the whole being underpopulated as those on them play less or leave altogether and don't seem to be getting replaced(I would like to see server populations for today compared to 6 months ago). -

Regarding the cathedral of pain, we have done that too

I take it you are referring to when it was available on test as it's never been released to live?
On test, it has been available twice and the second time it was on there, seemed relatively bug free.
It's worth noting that when this TF does go live, it will NOT be available all the time. Due to the value of the IoP it gives, the plan is for it be made available for 5 days out of every 50 according to the information released so far. Whether this timing will change once it makes it live remains to be seen.
As mentioned before, you will need a lot of people for this to be a successful TF though.I really can't imagine it being achievable with less than 3 teams of 4 or 5 and while it autolevels people up to 40 in the same way the PvP zones do, relying on people below 30 with none of their big hitting powers would not be advised as it was very tough the second time around, after the fixes. -
Something that really annoyed me was when we scraped together the salvage and cash for an advanced Database and after several long weeks, placed it in the base.
We then found out it was totatlly useless as it does not work with the basic mainframe and needs the advanced mainframe to work.
The choice left to us was to sell it, getting the prestige back but losig the large amount of salvage it took, or get the advanced mainframe that would take at least another 4 weeks of solid VG play.
Given that there appears to be no way of knowing the advanced mainframe was needed until AFTER we'd built it at the workbench, using all our salvage, this REALLY annoyed me -
Well, I signed up for CoH about two weeks after it went live in Europe and finally got my first 50 just before Christmas.
Not sure how many hours that took but I suspect it was quite a bit higher than the average number of hours as I exemped a lot.
That said, I should have really had my first 50 just after I5 as I started with a fire/dev blaster who made it to 31 before I abandoned him to switch to a katana/regen scrapper. The scrapper got to 42 before the Instant Heal nerf and ED hit him for 6. I could have persevered and got him to 50 but he is just no longer fun to play so it was back to the drawing board and soldiering through with a tank.
Abandoning my scrapper was a real sore point for me. After all the different AT's and builds I tried out, the pre-ED regen was definitely the most fun to play and to get to lvl 42 and have your build not just 'tweaked' but totally destroyed to the point where your whole play style has to be radically changed was a real low point for me
Managed to get my level 40 on CoV within 2 months of launch though and was very proud of that as I picked my build before the game went live and avoided some of the 'uber' Brute and MM builds for a team oriented Corruptor. Roll on lvl 40+ content so I can actually get him some attack powers as I've really skimped on his primaries to make him as much of a team build as possible. -
As part of a respec, you can't change your actual primary/secondary powersets so you will be a claw/DA for life
You can change what powers you pick and where you place slots though and can also change your pools.
