Fire/Thermal Corrupter - need help

Hi all, I have created a Fire/Thermal Corrupter and am hoping someone can offer some advice!

My dilema is this... I like to team up and find the secondary powers fantastic for this. With the shields and heals I have found that I am already quite useful and I'm only up to level 12! Unfortunately though, although I can see my team support role increasing with other powers in the Fire/Thermal powers, I cannot see my own defence increasing much.

I have currently taken Hover and plan to take Fly, partially because Hover seemed a useful defensive option for me but I am wondering what else I could take to either aid my fellow team mates more, or defend myself more.

My current thoughts are that Leadership can offer some decent team effects that also, thankfully, effect me. Similarly the Health/Stamina powers will have an indirect bonus due to the regeneration rates (I will still take damage but regenerate it faster and also be able to use more end. draining specials!).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
The Flaming Drambuie.

the fitness pool makes a massive difference, especially to fire/thermal. Hover is useful, as is the leadership pool, but go for assault/tactics - vengeance is hugely situational, and manuveurs isn't worth the slot.

Don't worry too much about defence - you have a reasonable heal that stamina and 3 recharge reductions should mean is nicely available, plus the health regen helps too. Concentrate on keeping your teammates alive, and frying the enemy to a crisp - they can't hurt you if they are facedown!

The 2 holds and rains in the primary, combined with the powers in the secondary should give enough protection.

My main is a level 40 Fire/thermal and I've not had any problems defence wise. I've also got the benefit of having another level 40 fire/thermal in my VG who is a completely different build.

My build is, like yours, team oriented with heavy use of the secondaries anbd the other one in my VG is pure offence. It's amazing how two builds with the same primary/secondary can be so diverse.

Get both heals six slotted ASAP with 3 recharge reduction and 3 heals as these are what will keep you and the team up. lvl 22 and SO's will make a huge difference. Pool wise, I've gone for the SS/Stealth combo as it's about the best defence bonus you'll get. I'd also advise having 3 recharge redctions in Haste by lvl 22 to get those heals recycling that much quicker.

Other than that, your single target buff and debuff(can't remember there names) are good but not worth spending too many slots on. Melt Armour really is the king of the set though and 6 slots ASAP are great in it though it is a bit of an aggro magnet. 3 slots in each shield and 3 slotted stamina also round you off nicely, as well as 3 in the rez. With Speed, Fitness, Concealment already taken care of, I took TP Friend for my fourth pool so I could TP people clear for rez. Being able to SS/Stealth and TP people in also helps for tough missions.

Offence wise, I've got fire blast, blaze, the snipe one and nova. these are the only offences i've gone for to make the most of the secondary set.

I'm AFK until Tuesday but if you want me to post my build then, just drop me a PM.

One thing I've considered for my Thermal is respeccing into the Leaping pool. I've found that most of the times that I get killed or let someone else on the team die, it's because I've been knocked down or back. Acrobatics (the final-tier Leaping power) would stop that. (Sure, turning Hover on lessens the effect of Knockback, but even with Hover slotted, it's not a fast way to move around.) It also adds a small amount of hold resist. Combat Jumping (one of the initial powers in the set) gives a little bit of def, and also some immobilise resist - there have been a good few times Longbow have immobed me somewhere that I was out of range for healing team members, or stuck in an ignite patch from a flamethrower, so I can see it being useful.

The downside is the loss of versatility that Hover and Fly give, sadly. If you could find room in your build, Hover three-slotted for flight speed could sort that out; I've found that for PvE, slotted Hover is great, especially for characters who are doing a lot of healing. In PvP, I find it to be a little too slow for the same use, though... nothing more frustrating than seeing a teammate at low health, and not being able to get there in time to save them.

Well, my main is a lvl 40 fire/therm and I have gone all the way down the secondary route, rather than the primary. It can be a bit of a pain as soling is very difficult and i've gone for a very specific build.

Defence wise, if you're in support, you shouldn't be getting too much aggro and should be picking your shots. Your main defence will be your heal aura but too many mobs on you will see you face plant.

Pool wise, I went with three slotted hasten and stamina(don't slot health, waste of time with your heal). As well as those, I took SS and stealth to allow me to ghost missions and for the defence bonus of stealth. Taking stealth on it's own is OK but the movement slowdown on it is a real pian without SS. Recall friend is also recomended if you're going to be rezzing so that leaves your pools looking like Fitness/Speed/Teleportation/Concealment.

One point to make is this leaves you with no mez resistance so dropping TP may be an option for Combat Jump and Acrobatics.

For the build itself, the only attack powers I have are fire blast?(the level one power that isn't flares), the snipe one and the short range attack, blaze? (not the cone). Apologies for the lack of names, can never remember them. Also taken aim and nova. I basically open with aim/snipe, run in with fire blast queued then hit that followed by the short range one. This is enough to put most people down but I auto queue heal as any hit's should land about then. The good thing with this is that by the time snipe actuall executes, the delay on travel powers has already expired so you can SS in with the other two before they know what's happening.

Secondary wise, I've taken the controversial decision to ignore thaw. I did tke it but just was not using it enough to be worth it. By the time someone said 'zzz', I targeted them and executed the power, most of the time it had worn off or their(and the teams) health had dropped so much that I wished I'd just spammed the heal aura. The shields are great, though all the bubbling can be a pain. there is also a single target buff and debuff which are good, especially the buff. The debuff is OK but nothing to get too excited about due to it being single target. I tend to slap this on the brute taking point whenver I have a spare 'click' coming up but it's not a priority. Then we come to the king of the set, Melt Armour. Last power you'll get but slot it ASAP. It has a fairly quick recharge if 3 slotted with reductions, meaning you can open up every other mob battle with it.

If you have a big mob and a couple of blues, let someone take aggro, hit aim then run in and Melt Armour before Nova. As soon as nova goes off, pop a blue and spam heal until any stragglers are mopped up by the team(not that there will be many, especially if you pop some red/yellows before running in).

Only real weakness in the set is the lack of an end buff. The lack of mez resistance can be annoying sometimes and I keep toying with dropping TP for CJ and acrobatics but the ability to stealth missions and TP the team along is too good. It's not great for solo but the SS/Stealth means I can do it with the difficulty up maybe one or two notches. That said, other than getting used to the timing of Nova, it's been relatively debt free but I'm strictly a support build with little punching power of my own. On the other hand, Alien Entity is the same as me and also a 40 but has gone all primary and it's scary how well we complement each other yet play so differently for the same primary/secondary choice.

If you're on Union server, send a tell to @Kinslayer and i'll LK you along for a few missions with my VG so you can see how it works.
