Good AI is about the one thing I think the original Deus Ex really, really needed, too. It was entirely too easy to jump onto a guard, hack him to bits with a glowing nano sword, then hide for thirty seconds just to have all the other guards shrug and go, "Must have been a cat." Or get a group of highly-trained special operatives to charge into a hall full of blinking proximity mines. Or... well, you get the idea. Of course, parts of the game would have been near impossible with the wrong augs if the guards actually were smart, but still.

I can pretty regularly throw TFs together on the fly when I feel like it, and I have about as few in-game resources for this stuff as you can get. There are a few Virtue TF/teaming/event channels that will take you far.

    2. I'm no good at the whole time changes between EU and America but how busy would it the server be? It's 3:40 in the afternoon right now if that's any help in giving you an idea of when I'm on...
Europe is 6-10 hours ahead of most of the US, depending on just which locations you're talking about. The peak times in the US (let's say 6 - 11 PM) will probably be late night to early morning for you, unfortunately. There's a pretty good population all through the day on weekends, and it isn't terribly hard to form teams during the day on weekdays, which will probably be late afternoons and evenings for you.

My stance is Screw Graphics. One of my favorite games I've discovered recently is rendered in ASCII, and I still actively play and enjoy SNES games that I haven't played before. Did all old games have better plots or gameplay than the current generation? Hell no. But they were more willing to try new and interesting things, probably in part due to not having ten zillion dollar graphics budgets, and I'd sure rather have another batch of games like we got in the late 90s/early 00s (Deus Ex, Total Annihilation, Alpha Centauri, Arcanum, Diablo II, Metal Gear Solid, Baldur's Gate II, Ocarina of Time, Planescape: Torment, and Fallout were all released in about a 4-year period) than the current generation of first-person shooters with 90% of their budget in graphics. Yeah, that's not the entire current generation, but very few recent games have engaged me like those... and it's not just nostalgia, since I played some of those for the first time last year.

    Simple Survey

    Player Name: Kelenar

Character Stats: Well, uh. Kelenar was my first main in City of Heroes (Level 50 Storm/Elec Defender) but I deleted him years and years ago. I have a handful of characters I split my time about equally between these days.

    1) What’s in a name? : “I see your name is “...”. What is the story behind it? Where did you get it? What other names have you used in the past”
Long ago, in a distant land, I (AKU) bought Baldur's Gate, the first RPG I ever owned. And I made me a wizard. I said to myself, I said, "What would be a good name for a wizard? Uhhhhhhhh. Kelenar. Sure." And then I used that name for my EverQuest character. By time I got to CoH, it was just habit.

    2) What’s in a job? : “Why do you play a “race/class/occupation? Do you find you play that a lot? Do you like it or would you play others? Do you have other characters with other race/class/occupation”
I've played every AT in the game except Peacebringers to at least level 30, so I've tried darn near everything. I tend to focus on Defenders, Brutes, Dominators, and Scrappers, in about that order. The specifics of my likes and dislikes are kind of complicated (I can't stand some of the most popular Scrapper/Brute sets), but it generally comes down to 'I like to be able to do good damage, but doing nothing but damage is boring.'

    3) What’s in a game?: “What do you like about this game? What would you change or improve?”
The fighting looks good--and I don't mean that it has triple-filtered quadrilinear omnivoxels or whatever the big thing is these days. It just looks like fighting instead of guys swinging weapons vaguely in each others' direction, like most MMOs. And it's fast-paced, and above all, makes your character generally feel powerful.

    4) What’s in a story?: “Do you have any funny anecdotes from playing this game? What is the greatest adventure you’ve been on in here?
Not sure on this one. Most of my fondest memories of the game have been roleplaying moments, which don't tend to make good anecdotes if you aren't personally invested in that time my character had a fist fight over the last sandwich or whatever.

    5) What’s in a friend?: “Do you play alone or with a group? Are you a member of any guilds? What keeps you playing alone/groups? Do you have lots of friends in this world? Do you talk to them often?
Had a lot of good friends in the game back in The Day, but most of them have quit MMOs altogether. I dated one of them for ten months and ended up living about three miles from another one, though, so I'd say I got my money's worth. These days, I mostly solo, group with strangers, or team with the few people I still know in the game.

    6) “What got you into MMOs?”

A lot of my friends got hooked on EverQuest when I was in middle school (1999. I've been doing this crap for 11 years, it would seem.) They dragged me in.

    7) “What new MMO are you looking forward to?”
Not much. The Old Republic is about it. For the most part, the vast majority of MMOs bore me now that I've gotten tired of the reward grind.

Night Widows have better than boss level protections across the board. Wolf Spider Huntsmen have twice the mez protection of a normal boss. Compound these varying levels of protection with the generally similar appearance across ranks, their own mezzes, and some very annoying tricks (Web Grenade and Smoke Grenade) and you have a very irritating faction to fight. One that is largely unavoidable from level 1 to 50.
These pretty much cover my thoughts. Blue is easier than red to begin with, and once you layer in the fact that I can level there without ever seeing a Fortunata shrug off holds before killing me in the face, I'll definitely be playing a heroic dom after GR. I'm hoping it will bring some attention to the less widely-appreciated villain ATs (aka 'pretty much everything but Brutes and MMs') from the playerbase at large, once all of the people who think the isles look yucky get a chance to try them out.

And also making it pretty much better than Weave as a self-defense power, which might not be the best route to take.

The decrease in interrupt time (which snipe sets have) only affects the length of the span when enemies can interrupt the power while hitting you. The power still takes the same amount of time to animate. That said, I'd love an animation time redux IO. It would make certain powersets a bit less infuriating to me.
  11. A pretty similar list of ideas I had a while back. Some of the commenters had some pretty nifty stuff.

I'll reiterate my previous stance that Heroes And Villains by Powerman 5000 could practically be the Going Rogue themesong. Not entirely relevant, but still.

This would be my big worry. Add a few buffers/debuffers to the team and you can still be sitting pretty at the softcap, especially if you can get yourself bloodied up a little to keep the damage flowing. Not to mention the previously-mentioned bit about how healing could hurt your damage output--I can see dense empaths being problematic there, plus heal auras (a Dark Miasma defender would be your worst enemy.) Plus, I'd be a bit leery of taking any scrapper secondaries more offensively-biased than Shield Defense already is... with some recharge buffs, /Shield characters can already step on the toes of blasters kind of heavily.

That said, I'll continue lobbying in support of any defensive sets that have more interesting gimmicks than 'if you turn on this toggle, you get harder to kill!'

Dammit, had to pick the week I'm busy after work most days. Maybe Friday...
  16. Now I want to make a brooding vigilante character who is out to murder Mystic Fortune for killing his (parents/wife/dog.)

As of today, that's no longer the case. All my characters are getting the message every time they log in. It's rather refreshing.
    Oh, awesome.
  18. Don't forget beating up the groups in Croatoa, most of whom (except the Red Caps) are relatively innocent when you get down to it. The missions are mostly justified, but that doesn't stop you for beating them up for standing around in the forest.

    The Manual

Oh man, I thought this was going to be about the hilarious blast-from-the-past hardcopy manual, from the days when nukes stunned the user and Gravity Control's level 32 power was Team Teleport.
  20. Kelenar

    RP curiosity...

I bet there are some cannon-based RP groups for pirates or Napoleonic War characters.
  21. In no particular order:

Sorrow-Weave: Thinks she's the daughter of Ruladak, so she enjoys testing her strength against people. Probably my most stereotypically villainous character, she has no real limits short of destroying the world. Still, she doesn't beat people up for no good reason--she has a bit of a code of honor about it. If you put on the cape, you're accepting anything she might throw your way, but she has no interest in hurting the weak unless she has to, and gets annoyed at those who go out of their way to do so.

Jessica Reid: Brainwashes people, sells illegal substances, and pretty much murders indiscriminately. She's evil, but it's the small-minded 'hey, where's my money?!' evil, not the 'mwahaha, how I am invincible!' evil.

Silead the Lament: Has a completely screwed up nervous system, and she's sort of a reverse-empath, so she's usually in horrible, mind-numbing pain... unless she's around somebody who's unhappy or in pain, which is the only time she feels okay. Put simply, she isn't a nice person to be captured by. When you get down to it, though, she's just a lonely kid who's doing the best she can to cope with the fact that she was horribly screwed up when she was young, and she does her best to do good with her, er, abilities as an assassin.

Liora Kate: Is going to be invincible! Yaaaaaaaay! She just needs a few more parts to finish up, and that's why she had to steal everything from that store. And then throw a brick through the window. And then set it on fire. But she gave like ten thousand (stolen) dollars to some orphans yesterday, so it's totally okay, you guys.

Recolored quicksand to look like lava = awesome
Recolored volcanic gases to look like lava = awesomer
Earth hold/stun controls set to lava = awesomest

It's one of the few toons I've done that is really focused on thematics. The fact that it turned out really powerful too is a huge bonus for how I play the game.
Pretty much this... Earth/Fire is powerful, but to boot, it feels powerful. Most of my other doms play pretty fun, but Earth/Fire plays like a wrecking ball wrapped in TNT. But then, I'm a sucker for big smashes and screen shaking.

Overall, I tend to judge characters purely according to how I feel when I play them. As a set of "baseline" requirements for enjoying a character, I have noticed that I don't enjoy spending a lot of time waiting for my characters' green or blue bars to refill, repeatedly hitting brick walls when fighting certain mobs (although I don't mind being defeated from time to time)
This pretty much expresses my thoughts on things. I tend to solo or run small groups through ye olde-fashioned normal missions, which still takes something like 150+ hours... If I'm not enjoying myself through the majority of that time, I'm doing something kind of stupid, since this is a game and all. So, I tend to put very little stock in claims that X set is underpowered, because Y set works so much better once you pair it with the right epic pool and put 3 billion inf worth of IOs into it.
  24. And this would let me get other people's opinions on costumes before committing to them! As it currently is, if I'm designing a costume with somebody's help, I just have to pay for it and hope they don't have much feedback.

Yeah, my old dial-up started having trouble as the game got more complicated. I couldn't do anything in RWZ for the longest time, because the fights at the firebases had enough stuff going on to saturate my connection. Gang War was similarly problematic, so I ended up shelving my Thugs/ MM for years. And Scrapyard's giant horde. And Rikti raids. And... well, you get the idea.
