earth/earth or earth/fire for concept build?
/fire by a mile. My perma earth/fire is called Volcanic Facemelter.
Pros to /earth assault:
-Most of the powers look very similar to effects that earth uses
-It is a very smashy set so fits well with stalagmites/earthquake/animate stone
The melee attacks are very impressive, hit hard, and offer good mitigation
-Seismic smash is the best melee attack in the game.
Cons to /earth assault:
-Your tier 1 attack uses the same animation as stalagmites, so things can get a bit repetitive.
-The set sucks from range, while earth control is very strong at maintaining range (earth control sets up well for melee as well, but is very good at range).
-The aoe's are very small and earth controls are very large and are so strong enemeis don't move. Where something like confuse clumps enemies earth control doesn't, they just never move.
-Powerboost is unwarranted with earth control. It is nice, but totally unneeded.
-Requires very high recharge to put out good dps and is always contstricted by the very poor dps ranged attacks.
Pros to /fire assault:
-Wow damage. Not even close how much more damage fire does than earth.
-FE has 30 sec duration on doms taking the wow damage even higher very often.
-Less resisted damage type
-Better endurance efficiency (though still quite end hungry due to the fast casts)
-Blaze is the best ranged attack in the game
-Has an end recovery power, which while not amazing, is pretty decent in conjunction with domination fueling your end bar.
Cons to /fire assault:
-Provides no additional mitigation. Not an issue for a control powerhouse like earth though imo.
-Is a good set, but doesn't feel amazing until you get blaze, which is a long wait.
-Combustion kind of sucks, even though it does decent damage.
For concept, if you're going for the Hawaiian volcanos, I'd pick fire. I build things for concept all the time. Then again I have a dryad dominator with Plant/Psionic. I've been told I'm weird though.
Wow thanks for the great pros and cons frosticus. I decided to go with fire as I think it makes more sense from a concept perspective.
Now I'm thinking I could go fire/earth instead of earth/fire.

Fire/earth is also a good choice. It is a lot more endurance intensive than earth/fire though and will struggle to put out as much damage. It will have better st control with char and seismic smash, but won't have nearly the same aoe control.
I'm not an RP'er, but I greatly enjoyed dropping earthquake (the rumble just before the volcano erupts) and then jumping in and exploding with firebreath+combustion as the volcano erupts and then following it up with st blasts like the hot fire geysers shooting out.
Recolored quicksand to look like lava = awesome
Recolored volcanic gases to look like lava = awesomer
Earth hold/stun controls set to lava = awesomest
It's one of the few toons I've done that is really focused on thematics. The fact that it turned out really powerful too is a huge bonus for how I play the game.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
I agree I love Earth/Fire it lets you melts faces off w/o worry...plus hitting Fiery Embrace and then spamming Fire Breath and Blaze is a VERY beautiful thing!
So I ended up going fire/earth. I'm really enjoying all the smashiness of it and how every attack shakes the screen. I just feel powerful.
I'm currently level 18. So far I havnt taken stamina, instead relying on domination to fill the bar every time its p. I do find myself popping blues more often now. My question is do most builds that go for permadom with hasten also take stamina?

Yes, it's possible to get permadom with Stamina...in fact I would never skip Stamina on a dom..it's possible but there's no need to. Fire/ and ?Earth can be hard on end...w/o stamina it would be torture.

In the 40s if you get a decent amount of +recovery, get a fair whack of End Reduction from IO sets in most powers and also go for Mu for Power Sink then it might be worthwhile then respeccing out Stamina (Dark Consumption wouldn't cut it IMO, the recharge on it is ridiculous and the AOE laughable).
I've always wanted to make a rock skinned character and I'm fleshing out a concept based on Hawaiian volcanoes.
I've already decided on the Earth primary. I'm wondering which secondary will have the best synergy while still fitting my concept. I am looking at either stone or fire.
This will be my first dom. I usually play defenders. I've been told fire is the most damaging secondary. I don't know much about earth assault yet. I'm just looking for some pros and cons for pairing either of them with Earth control. Thanks for any advice!
