Well, it came down to 'ugly ice chunks' defense shield vs. 'inexplicably pink glow' defense shield, and the latter annoyed me slightly less.

  3. All of what FourSpeed said was good, but I wanted to add one more: Make sure the prices you're seeing are typical when you buy. Last time I bought a purple to craft and relist, I watched the prices all day, snagged a recipe for about 80% of what most of them were going for, and relisted the crafted IO for significantly lower than the going rate, in a position where I was still guaranteed about 100 million profit. Thing was, that weekend I was watching the prices, the prices were exceptionally high. The next day, they dropped a lot, and the IO I'd listed for a cheap price was now right around the normal going rate. It sold, but took about two weeks. Still not a bad investment, but if the prices had dropped even a little more, I would've been in trouble.

Once you get a good feel for where the 'normal' price lies, though, it can be a good way to marketeer with only logging in a couple times a week. It's how I made most of my second billion.

Pretty much this. What's 'best' depends on which exact balance of survivability, ST damage, AoE damage, and adaptability you care for.

Wow, I usually have to at least get up and have a snack around week 2. You have a hell of an attention span.

Apart from taking breaks (which, as other people have noted, is often a good idea) I find that just finding a character that clicks can make me jump back into the game enthusiastically. This is usually some nebulous combination of a good costume and two powersets that work well together and look cool, which is a total crapshoot. I don't enjoy Regeneration much on my MA/Regen Scrapper, but I love how it works with my Spines/Regen Stalker.

To be fair, they could fix that... and then not hire Steve Guttenberg for a main role. That will probably help balance out some of the problems.
  7. They're doing a remaking of Short Circuit. And my friend said something about seeing a summary of it that mentioned Johnny 5 befriending a troubled teenage boy or something in the new one. And you just know they'll do CGI Johnny 5 instead of making real robots again. And I bet they think the Three Stooges jokes aren't relevant anymore. So there goes my childhood.

This is why, when I described the project to my friend, I called it a piece of performance art. Or at least, that's what my billion was donated for.

I go out of town for a couple weeks and you all sprint to the finish line like zap. Pretty friggin' impressive. And here I'd thought that the last few ranks were going to take six months or something.

Man, they'd hate me. Very few of my characters have that badge, because I *gasp* start in Galaxy.

Also, the Alpha slot doesn't have benefits nearly good enough (especially compared to IO builds) to justify even considering kicking people from a non-Incarnate TF, I chuckle every time people refer to TFs in general as some gruelling test of player skill that is unparalleled in the rest of the game (I finished Sister Psyche. I'm 1337, yo.), all level 38+ /Archery Defenders without Rain of Arrows should be facekicked unless they have a very very very very good reason, and my experience suggests Dechs probably has a darn good idea about how the LGTF works. Think that covers everything.

And it makes a good distraction for if you over-aggro. The alpha strike was the big one for me, though. I can see where a tankermind build with Taunt might not have much use for it, but it was gold on my Thugs/Poison.

Yeah, I think my Psi/ Blaster is the closest character I've ever had to earning some sort of 'most underwhelming at everything' award.

  12. I haven't been feeling much motivation to play any other character since my Earth/Fire/Mace dom hit perma-Hasten levels of recharge. Having Embrace of Fire up half the time is delicious. And nothing my brutes can do compares, as far as fun goes, to seeing 'DOMINATION' flying above the heads of a x8 spawn.
  13. I think Schismatrix expressed it best: You've usually done work I like (and I'm an opinionated jerk, so that's not easy,) and your interactions with the community have been useful and direct. Can't think of many other devs here that were as receptive to player input as you were, let alone in any other game. So: Goodbye to one of the last of the brovelopers.

Enemies that debuff a tank/scrapper/brute's ability to taunt. In fact, how about some enemies that debuff our buffs and heals similar to poison and cold domination?

What else can we think of?
Enemies with large cones. We actually already have this in Malta. I was once on a team of 8 where we had very few buffs. The Tanker stood between the group and a spawn and taunted. Half the squishies were instantly wiped out by a few Gunslingers doing cone attacks at the tank.

Enemies with Chain Induction style powers, especially if they have a delay between jumps. Make players pay attention to who's 'infected' and keep their distance as needed.

Well, really, we have some of these kinds of things right now. Sorcerors, Surgeons, Sappers... enemies that you need to smash hard and smash early or they can dramatically change the course of a fight. I don't see how an enemy that would go straight for buffers/debuffers would be that different, really. Just another entry on the list of priority targets.

Agreed. And they despawn when a new present pops up, so they're only really an obstacle if... well, I can't think of many reasonable situations where they are an obstacle. Maybe if some top-level ones spawn by a mission door a lowbie needs, but I can't think of any present spots near mission doors.

The next best thing is the random change up. Enemy is aggro'd on the tank, but then randomly says "Oh, I'll hit guy number three on my list once." This is cool and interesting, but ... somewhat problematic. Since it's random, even a good team will fall victim to it. It doesn't require skill if it's all luck.
There are some changes I can see that would increase difficulty while still relying more on skill/knowledge than luck. Make enemies with AoEs still target the tanker if taunted, but maneuver to try getting squishies in the blast area too if possible. As a side effect, this would make immobilizes more valuable. Or make enemies scatter a little, with some of them staying as far at range as possible, to cut down the effectiveness of player AoEs. (This, though, would decrease the value of AoEs and thus maybe require some rebalancing. Or maybe not, depending on just how much you buy into AoE being strictly better than ST.)
  18. Bases? I think I saw one of those things once. They're involved with them 'supergroup' doohickies those kids in Atlas are so keen about, right?

The good news is you still have Assassin Strike to provide decent ST damage.

Lethal resistance can get really annoying. I feel the worst is Malta though. Malta as an enemy group have on average 30%+ lethal resistance? Those robot bosses take forever to kill.
Pretty much this. ST damage felt kinda slow on my Spines/ stalker... but then I wiped out entire spawns of minions with Throw Spines and Spine Burst and felt better about it. And once the boss is alone, Placate->AS will take care of everything.

Pff. The tank can get aggro and the alpha if he can beat me there. Dude has to earn it.
  21. An interesting idea, but I think a lot of stuff would need to be rebalanced if something like this were put into effect. Not to mention that buff sets aren't really the most popular right now anyway, and this would just disincentivize playing them.

    An "I Quit" Post

No, really, I did. A few weeks ago, I told some of the people closer to me that I was quitting, sent my feedback quietly to a red name, and even reevaluated my budget now that this $15 a month as freed up. One of the last things said red name told me was "I hope that you find something in a future Issue that can bring you back." I politely told them something akin to "Ya right" and resumed closing up shop.

    [. . .]

In all seriousness, Issue 19 handily takes care of the vast majority of the reasons I'm quitting. I knew the update was coming for a while. There's a difference, however, between hearing something will be happening soon and actually logging on and having said options laid out before you.

I tried to leave, but they keep me in. Again and again. I can only imagine that I20, in all its shrouded secrecy, is going to crabshell us with some incredible other feature that keeps me in the game.

Good job, Red Names. You all collaborate on a fine project.
    LFT?
Yeah. I 'quit' once. About two weeks after I unsubscribed, while I could still log in, I jumped in on a whim, ended up meeting some new people to play with, and played for the next three days straight. ... I don't think my account ever actually lapsed.
  24. Hanging onto them. I've been running tips nightly on my incarnate Dom, picking up LotGs to sell toward getting myself another two purple sets. Doing this has gotten me about 25 shards so far, which I figure will be a pretty decent step toward whatever comes next. Probably won't buy the new incarnate enhancements alone, but it might let me buy my way out of a few TFs I'd rather not do.

Same here. My DM is probably the first character I ever felt confident taking on hazard zone spawns with at high levels.
