Need some help with damage on my Spines/Nin
Quote:
I have a Spines/ and felt the same way. Like you, I added in Assault, along with about 20-25% IO damage bonus' and procs to get it to feel right.
This is PvE.
So, I've frankenslotted with cheap sets while levelling and finally got myself to level 50 last weekend. My attacks vary from 81% to 92% damage and from 42% to 69% accuracy. However especially on single targets I'm really just plinking them. Against anything with significant s/l resistance (crey tanks or freakshow are the worst offenders) impale and ripper do less than 100 damage. Against common enemies like longbow and arachnos I'm hitting for low 120s. When lieut's have 860hp+ and bosses 2600+ it's really making me feel like a joke. with my first i19 respect I grabbed assault (because I team often enough that the leadership powers often get stacked) and that helped a bit. I'm going to get both the endurance/range and the damage alphas this weekend and play with them to see which I like better. Any recommendation on slotting for spines in general? Should I heavily drop procs into all attacks? Is there a good way to get the achiles heel into a spins/nin build? |

I haven't run my Spines/Nin in quite awhile (too many other alts with things to do)
I have a vague recollection that it simply didn't hit as hard as my NB/Nin, but I'd
have to dig it out and run a few missions to see if that memory is real or not.

PS> All of my attacks are slotted 60/90 Acc/Dmg as minimum reqs, so I know
they're at least softcapped for Acc and hitting ED on Dmg.
I've been rich, and I've been poor. Rich is definitely better.

That's the price you pay for having Throw Spines and Spine Burst. :P Spines lacks ST damage in exchange for having the best aoe damage for Stalker.
The good news is you still have Assassin Strike to provide decent ST damage.
Lethal resistance can get really annoying. I feel the worst is Malta though. Malta as an enemy group have on average 30%+ lethal resistance? Those robot bosses take forever to kill.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Pretty much this. ST damage felt kinda slow on my Spines/ stalker... but then I wiped out entire spawns of minions with Throw Spines and Spine Burst and felt better about it. And once the boss is alone, Placate->AS will take care of everything.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
How do you have your AoE's slotted? Do you use 1 or multiple damage procs?

Believe it or not, I put Chance to Knockdown 25% (purple) in my Throw Spines because I always use Build Up + Throw Spines on a team and I have the habit of not waiting for Tanker/Brute to "herd". I hate that !@#$. I just start the fight myself with BU and the chance for kb comes handy to reduce the amount of initial aggro. :P

I haven't really planned an alpha build. Maybe you can even throw in one damage proc like Positron with purple sets.
I love Claw Stalker a lot but the aoe knockback can be too chaotic.
PS: You can easily put two damage procs in Spine Burst though.

I have chance to knockdown in my caltrops. The larger area and the fact that multiple spawns sometimes walk into it were my reason, but throw spines is up pretty fast, that's not a bad call.
