And no, temp powers ignore buffs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you sure about that, Mateo?
According to the numbers my accuracy appears to go up on Sands of Mu, Ghost Slaying Axe and Nemesis Staff whenever I use accuracy inspirations.
Swallowing yellows before a Self Destruct always seems to insure that I hit all the enemies in my range. Is it really just blind luck?
[/ QUOTE ] Well temp powers are supposed to ignore buffs, but maybe that only applies to their Damage. The info is a little vague as far as tohit and accuracy goes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, to be precise, Veteran Reward temporary powers ignore all personal buffs except Accuracy/To-hit. All other Temp powers can be buffed even with Rage, BU, inspirations, Power Up etc.
[/ QUOTE ] [Self Destruct] reads "Ignores buffs and enhancements" in it's damage info.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, it would make sense to make any 'non-temporary' temp power the same as the Vet Temp powers since they never run out (which kind makes them non-temporary in fact).
It may still be affected with To-hit because IIRC from the Vet reward temp power discussion with Castle, that there was no-way to exclude the To-hit.
Should be easy to check.. BOOM! -

OK, while I don't agree with not having an initial value at the point the accolade is received, I think I understand. If I have a new character, and I want them to gain the Smoke Grenade power, with a full 20 charges, I would have to:
[*]Log out at Fort Darwin (or another non-hostile Arachnos base) for 21 days[*]Log in, gain the Arachnos Agent badge, and travel to the Vault Reserve in Mercy (or another VR location)[*]Log out for 21 days[*]Log in, gain the Thief badge and Black Ops accolade, stay there or go to a non-hostile Arachnos base
(At this point, I have all of my necessary badges, but no power at all.)
[*]Log out for 10 days[*]Log in
Finally, after 51 days logged out, I should have the Smoke Grenade power with 20 charges.
If I had logged back in just a day after getting the Black Ops accolade, I would have the power, but only two charges. But even if I had stayed logged out for more than the 21 days needed to get Thief and Black Ops, the clock doesn't start on the Smoke Grenade power until after I log in to receive both badges.
Again, I understand, but don't entirely agree.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yup, that's the way they designed it. It is possible they can only add a badge to a character at log-in, and they check for the badge + day job location at log out; then at log-in add up all the time from log-out to log-in and adjust the power. -

I found this guide Checklist of things to do each level from Eldandil in the section "Guideposts to look for / Long range planning" in the Player's guides forum.
Look here for more: Before you start - preparing to play -
[ QUOTE ]
Were you able to get the power after even a short time logged out at that location? I've normally been going to a completely different spot after I get each accolade.
And shouldn't that be working immediately, with an initial set of charges rather than having to also wait for even one charge? That seems a little weak...
[/ QUOTE ]
Once you have the accolade it takes 10 days logged off to get get the full time/ number of charges on the accolade power. This is recorded separately from the 2 Day job benefits that were required to get the accolade.
It's better explained at the Day Jobs and Day Job Badges pages at the Paragon wiki. The total Time/number of charges granted for each power is still being added to the Wiki though.
Let's say for example you are going for the Black Ops accolade, which requires Arachnos Agent and Thief Day job badges.
21 days at Arachnos Bases -> Arachnos Agent badge ->XP bonus power
21 days at Vault ->Thief Day job badge -> Infamy Bonus power
You now have the Black Ops accolade so logging out for 10 days at either the Arachnos Base or Vault will give full charges to the Smoke Bomb accolade power (I just checked and it has 20 when it's full, so 2 charges per day logged off) AND add 10 days to the respective Day job power.
There are advanced badges for each of the Day job locations too, like the "Veteran Arachnos Agent Auto: XP Bonus" is 25% rather than the 10% bonus from the "Standard Arachnos Agent" power. -
[ QUOTE ]
I was noting it especially with my villains that were getting their Black Ops accolade (for Arachnos Agent and Thief badges), they weren't getting their Smoke Bomb power at all. Same with the Physician accolade not giving out the Revive Ally power, and Police Chief accolade and its Baton power. These are all new accolades being handed out without powers, not just removal of exisiting powers that have timed- or charged-out.
[/ QUOTE ]
As mentioned above, you only start earning charges/time toward your Day Job accolade powers when you log out after you are awarded the appropriate Day Job accolade badge. -

Hrm... so I realized something while mucking around on my Mercs/Traps MM - namely that Acid Mortar can take both Defense Debuff and Targetted AoE sets.
Now normally, this would be nothing particularly special - but Acid Mortar is pretty much a debuff pet with remarkably low damage. I've also never found much reason to enhance it for anything but Recharge.
However now I'm thinking:
If I slot say... Touch of Lady Grey (Chance for Negative Energy Damage) in Acid Mortar... will the proc actually fire off of the Acid Mortar's attacks?
I'm doubting this will be super-useful or anything, but I'm curious.
My doubt primarily comes from the fact that it's a pet power - and normally goes off when you activate a power. But when you activate Acid Mortar, there's no target.
Anyone tried this?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it works. You can monitor it with the chat channel "Pet Damage Inflicted". It has a chance to proc with every shot the mortar makes. Adds a nice chunk of damage. -
I only see this happening with the Market teleporters since they changed it from a "limited time" power into a "number of uses" power.
On a character where I have earned (or re-earned) the "number of uses" version and slotted the power it hasn't disappeared after that until all the "uses" are gone. -

The subject pretty much says it all. I am a returning player who bought and installed the Architect Edition on my laptop. Everything works fine, powers work, I can complete missions, I gain experience, EXCEPT I can't get on a train. There seems to be an invisible wall stopping me from entering. My suspicion is that this is related to a problem displaying the train map you pick your destination from. OS and all drivers updated last night.
[/ QUOTE ]
First question: are you at the central area of the train station (where you see the doors open/close and the train moves to enter/leave the station?) If not, then you are at the Exit (doors remain open all the time) and you need to go into the central station entrance where the map is displayed.
Second question: if you are in the right section, are you clicking on the train doors? You must do this to pull up the destination selection menu. You don't just run through the doors like you would run through the areas connecting zones. -

yes, I dont get the option to pick sands or the axe when I create a new character. Do I report this in game??

I found yesterday from a friend that if you are in an Mission Architect arc (TF mode) the Claim Veteran rewards badge is greyed out. Are you trying with a character that is in AE? -

Go to Menu, Options
Find "Log chat" under the "Chat" Header and set it to Enabled
Chats will be saved in the folder logs\game under your City of Heroes folder.
[/ QUOTE ]
Saved as text files. This is how Herostats works, IIRC.
However, as I recall, it only logs chat received AFTER the option is enabled.
You can also highlight text and use ctrl-c to copy it, then paste it in a text document.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also, /copychat <tabname> will save the chat in that tab to the clipboard as text which you can then paste into notepad etc. -

i see suppress close fx as an advanced option. when i type it as a slash command, it dosent change in the options, indicating to me that nothing is going on. I am typing /suppressCloseFx 1 but have also tried:
/suppressclosefx 1
/SuppressCloseFx 1
/suppressclosefx1
/SuppressCloseFx1
/suppressCloseFx1
ill enable suppress close fx in the options to skirt around the problem, but i have the same troubles with dist.
i have tried all those same combinations with distances "7", "9", "10", "20" and "200"
[/ QUOTE ]
Try to set the distance first (30 or greater works at my regular camera view distance)
/SuppressCloseFXDist 40
Then toggle it on with
/SuppressCloseFx 1
I'd ignore the Option menu not changing, as it has never worked as long as I can remember it.
(Oh, and after testing the above I can confirm it does not affect costume auras)
Edit to add: They are 2 different commands by the way. It sounds like you may never have set the distance using /SuppressCloseFXDist -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Type_R
Technically Type R is just Honda's performance line of vehicles.
That being said, it could be they're just slapping the Type R label on their programming like a Ricer slapping a Type R badge on a Ford Focus.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ricer
So depending on the way they meant it, they're either making it run better, or they're making it run flashier.

Also, IIRC Positron was into Star Fleet Battles, and the largest of the Plasma Torpedoes was a Type-R (R for Romulan. Biggest of the big weapons.)

For me, I hate to give up an old character if they have any special badges that would be awarded only at one time (like First year Anniversary for example).
That, and I'd agree about looking at Veteran time accrued on the old account. -

PLEASE NOTE: it turns off *ALL* "physics" style auras...costume auras, most toggle auras, persistent buff effects (ie, Hasten). You can't pick and choose. It does NOT turn off graphics like Rock Armor's basic rock formation graphics, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can't check this right now, but I seem to remember costume auras are not affected. I had helped someone confirm this was the case because they wanted their costume aura still active but wanted their dark armour suppressed. -
There's this interview at Massively where Positron says:
[ QUOTE ]
Massively: We've heard rumors of a graphical update running around for years. Are there any plans to update the graphics in future issues?
Positron: We've hired some "Type-R" programmers (inside joke) to investigate and deliver this very thing. Stay tuned for details

The general tab is gone, it only shows the combat and help tabs with the regular chat tab at the bottom.
How do i get the general tab back?
i tried reseting the windows in the options menu but tit didnt work.
I didnt mess with it when i logged in today it was gone
[/ QUOTE ]
Log in with another character that has it set up correctly.
Once you have your chat window set the way you want it (or create a new character which will have the defaults set-up), you can save it to be your default using Menu > Options > General Tab, and near the bottom there is a "Chat settings File" section with buttons to save/load the chat settings.
Hit the "Save to default file" button.
Then log in with the character missing the General tab, and hit the "Load from Default file" button.
The slash commands to do the same thing would be :
/chat_save [Saves a list of chat settings to COH_INSTALL_DIRECTORY\chat.txt]
/chat_load [Reads a list of chat settings from COH_INSTALL_DIRECTORY\chat.txt]
/chat_save_file filename [Saves a list of chat settings to a file named "filename"]
/chat_load_file filename [Reads a list of chat settings from a file named "filename"] -

hm... Can we assume that:
1) You're able to keep your hands off the mouse and keyboard for the 30 seconds.
2) You don't have a macro-capable keyboard that's doing stuff without you realizing it.
3) Your input devices are not producing extraneous data (for example: a wireless mouse picking up RF interference).
Edit: I wonder if a flaky internet connection could cause that.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have had this with a twitchy joystick cancelling the log out, and even menu drop downs (as per point 3 above).
To test if this is the case you can go into the game's settings: Menu > Options> Control's tab. Set "Joystick Input" to disabled, and see if that clears the issue. -

I was able to log on without any issues last night. Today, after the patch, the program stalls on the Loading screen, when I ctrl-alt-del, it shows City of Heroes is Not Responding and my CPU usage is 100%.
I don't know how to get a Hijack This or DXDiag.

Have you checked to see if your firewall is blocking it after the update?
From the Common Solutions thread :
[ QUOTE ]
People also often have trouble with their computer locking up right when they try to log in, particularly right after an update to the game. This is often caused when a firewall program recognizes that the program has changed and prompts you to see if you want to let it connect to the internet. Unfortunately, if you have the game up in full screen, that prompt might be behind the game. But you cant get out of the game because its too busy trying to connect! Normally, if you just wait a minute or two, the game will give up and give you an error message. Then you can alt-tab out and answer the firewall prompt.

It's a known issue that the Defence Bots get stuck under their seeker drones, even in flat spots. Other than that, I haven't noticed an increase in the other Bots getting stuck.

Someone recently mentioned that the damage applied from the "Tower" fortune card is enough to defeat you if you respawn in a pvp hospital. -
The 4 types of Skull brooches are only available for Half mantle capes on all body types. I would hope it is a mere oversight and that they should still be available for other mantles as well.

I just finished downloading the game (after like 15 hours--UGH!) to try it out again for the reactivation weekend. I'm very excited to try it, you see. Yet the game doesn't seem to want me to! When I run the game, it freezes at the initial "Loading..." screen when the game first pops up after the updater/launcher is done.
I run the launcher, verify my files, and click "I Agree" to begin the game, right? Well, I get the little "Loading..." message and then the game itself begins to load. I get to the screen with CoX and all the heroes before you reach your login screen. It essentially freezes immediately at that point. I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL it out. I've restarted my computer, I deleted the checksum file and let it re-checksum.. what's going on? I've even tried loading the game in Safe Mode (via that checkbox next to the "I Agree" button on the updater. Nothing!
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? HAS anyone else experienced this problem? I really don't want to have to re-download the whole game again, in hopes of it working that time!! If it helps, I've got a Pentium D, 3.4GHz processor, a gig of RAM, Nvidia GeForce7600GT, and a pretty stable OS (XP Pro, SP3). I should be able to run this; I can run all my other MMOs (LotRO having a reactivation weekend, and I subscribe to WoW at the moment) perfectly fine. It's just City of Heroes.
Help!!!

There is a base corruption problem in the known bugs list. I don't know if it is a separate problem or if they have narrowed down the symptoms.
no mention of a solution in patch notes...
