    AT for an Angel

Well for concept usually angels potrait with swords and only sword set you can use with shield is BS. Leaving swords aside I think battle axe with shield looks like a viking more than an angel so I will suggest warmace (maybe your character was under Thor's command)

Fire melee also looks good but if i remember correctly its swords look like a scimitar which fits eastern genie's rather than an angel. Ice melee for some reason lacks the image but its swords look more suitable for an angel and you can set your image with a good aura.

For brute/scapper discussion. If you can keep fury high (or better full) than brutes have more DPS since critical hit is random but if both can keep going at similiar %damage bonus than scrapper has more advantage. Against more opponents brutes have a little better performance since they also have a taunt bonus and mobs don't run away (or run away than immediatly return) after a few hit. Also larger mob means faster fury fill and more ongoing damage for brute but scrappers are better on single targets like bosses elite bosses and AV's. especially red inspirations work better on scrappers since their base damage is higher. (for example nible slash in DB has 35 base damage on brutes and 57.8 base damage on scrappers so a %10 increase in damage means 3.5 damage on brute and 5.78 damage on scrapper at their damage cap brutes will have %750 more damage so it makes 297.5 damage while for scrappers %400 more damage it makes 289 considering that you get %5 critical against minions, pets and players and %10 against over minions You do about 303.45 damage to minions (and such) overall and 317.9 to others with scrappers)

I don't think this is impossible in principle, I think its so hard its impossible to even know how hard without actually attempting to untangle all the knots in the problem.
Wel half of it comes to my mind while thinking how in-game base numbers shown. It says level 50 scrapper or level 50 brute while checking a power so I think if program checks depending on class than it can be switched to innate powers. Than I think a little more and said that same power in primary pool should be better than secondary pool (as well as I know this is already the case in example of tankers and scrappers) so maybe program already calculates these things and thats how they formed classes (at least CoV classes since they come later)

This would make it easier to power profiliate as weel instead of calculating all of numbers from a setthat you want to add another class you just switch a button and voila old set in another class.

Obviously these are my wishful thinking but I think it would be easier to find set-related problems this way and instead of keeping multiple copies of same power pools with different base numbers in database just keep one power pool in database and another database for primary pool adjustment, secondary pool adjustment, innate ability adjustment (or class adjustment for current system) but I guess it is not that easy since there are some differences in powers even in same set.

I considered it might be just the demoralize effect, but they sure do take off more than that seems to explain.

I don't see mobs run off like that even on other ATs using high damage attacks. It seems like mobs run as soon as I use Burn. Is there something about the heavy ticking DoT that triggers the demoralize effect more than another attack that does the same damage but delivers it in one lump? I'm currently at a loss to fully explain what I'm seeing when using that power.
Mob morale is not just individual, its also group base. One example for this if you hit and one-shot (or drop him lower than %50 hp) much lower level enemy in a mob whole mob starts running even if you didn't attacked them. Its like something between "I am taking x amount of damage in y ticks" and "My group took x amount of damage in 1 tick" or at least this is how I observed the situation. Burn probably triggers both conditions in a crowded group and if conditions made like a meter and first conditions fills some second conditions fill some more it may explain the chickens in the CoH :P
  4. Didn't try this myself yet but supposedly Double Blades sweep combo just before burn should work (I saw someone doing this in an ITF run and it was working fine maybe except for bosses but he was using auto-follow on bosses and usually enters another mob with running boss than making same move.

On the topic: I can't talk about PB (since mine is sitting at level 8 for last 5 years) but for my WS i don't have any problem with any void and their counterparts most of the time my fluffies beat them before i even see them. For cryst's YAY free eclipse and mire fill.

Oh it seems I am not alone but my PB is already level 8 (after 5 years) and she is still not deleted :P

Returning to topic: Well people already said what I was going to say and wait until i21 since there maybe major changes in PB builds its safe to see what it will become before looking something now and than changing it after one or two months.

Comparing a Granite/Mastermind pet to the offense of a mastermind is missing the point: its turning a Granite tanker into a credible ranged offensive attacker.

A broken combination doesn't have to do everything better than everyone. That's gravy. It just has to do way more than ever intended. If I made an archetype with 95% of blaster ranged damage and 95% of tanker damage mitigation strength, the combination would be inferior in damage to a blaster and inferior in damage mitigation to a tanker and bat-**** crazy awesome.
Well I already know devs won't look at this thread or even if they did they won't take it consideration since probably they opted the the choice out a long time ago. Its just I missed old SWG (partly because of new SWTOR release coming close) and was getting this kind of things filling my head recently and just needed to get it out of my system. Responses were not bad either (neagitve or positive they had a certain maturity level. Well maybe except one)

    Scrappers Solo?

BS or katana may work well if you are mostly undecided to get AoE or single DPS. Both set are focus on single DPS but have good AoE options. If i remember correctly BS (never played BS i just know its powers are similiar to katana) has more burst damage while katana has faster attacks. Oh and both sets have -def in most of their attacks so once you started to hit you will keep hitting.

Or maybe DB though its a set that early play, middle play and late play are totally differentand probably require respecing at each 15 or so level but since you will beplaying first time and need to see different powers in the set anyway I don't think this is a handicap.
  9. I had many scrapperlock moments half of them thanks to my keys become sticky all of a sudden and I can't stop running while trying to take control with mouse ending up in a room with mobs and no teammates. Never kicked out from a team yet but again I don't know many cases people got kicked out from teams in defiant and its very rare when someone rage quits.

I am lucky that my main is a kat/SR scrapper so even if I got seperated I rarely die unless its a to-hit/accuracy buffed mob and sometimes a healer decides to follow (usually when there is more than one in team) When there wasn't this many calculations (and awareness of exact numbers of soft cap defense) in the game and elude was still considered main reason to get SR I could even left my toon for 3 minutes in the middle of a mob (malta to be precise) to get some chores done and return to only see not even half of his hp dropped run away from mob just before crash happens pop up two blue use conserve power than toggle back.

I would like to have synapse (or Neuron's) self duplicate power. Possible way to do it as a summon that has your powers (like the shadow mirror things at the end of positron's first arc)
  11. I also think PPP would be villian exclusive. There is already too less reason to go red side nowadays and with going rogue game just become blue side dominant. If you want PPP on your heroes wait for freedom, make your toon villian at tutorial, level up to 40 (do tips when available they give XP too you know) get your PPP than change side. Frankly its my first time people asking for removing content (story arcs for PPP) from a game.

You read correctly though I aim to provide at least two selections (At most three) for each power pool. For defense power pool primary; I would probably put gauntlet and fury (fury fills as you are attacked too after all) as options while for melee primary critical strike, fury and assassination. Secondaries get weaker base numbers compared to primary pool so example of stone/robotics won't be that overpowered since bots won't have that much damage output and a robot/stone won't have enough taunt to keep bots alive to be overpowered.

both are support powers right? Than you can't take both of them. When I mean power pools I mean the ones that we choose our powers from. If i am not mistaken all primary/secondary power pools are Melee, ranged, support, defense, control, buff/debuff, assault and summon except epic archetypes. So you choose two different pools for your primary and secondary.

It will be even easier to do this with new character select screen since it asks what type you want to play now when someone choose one instead of pointing archetype it will give powers under that category than do same for secondary pool. At third option it will presents innate ability selection based on primary pool and show last calculation of hit points and damage (as low, medium, high etc) than move to body type.

    What if....

I had this idea since I heard the announcement for freedom but I didn't have time to put it thoughts and I got it mostly because of other super hero MMO that went free to play.

Those who are familiar with other MMO knows that MMO had a "choose what you like as powers when you get a power" mentality and when they went to free to play they put class types that restrictiong players choices. Subscribers had the access to freeform and classes.

After I see CoH: Freedom I wonder what would happen if CoH made the reverse move. Giving archetypes to free players and letting subscribers to freeform. After thinking over it I come following conclusion how can it be done.

Primary&Secondary Power Pool: This power pool has all the powers that archetypes gets but instead of giving a primary and secondary pool based on your arche types all pools will be opened to select as primary. Once a pool selected from remaining power pools a secondary can be selected. Example Primary pool: support; Secondary Pool: Defense.

Third power pools, epic powers and ancillary power pools remain same.

Epic Archetypes remain same since they presents a different structure.

Innate ability: After primary and secondary choosen a player can choose an archetypes innate ability based on his primary power pool. Example a player who choosed primary melee and secondary support can choose from critical strike, fury or assasination.

Combination of primary pool, secondary pool and Innate ability also sets your characters base attributes (hit point, defense, damage etc.)

Currently this is all I think about. Obviously it needs to be tested to be balanced and such but I think it will provide interesting concept heroes to be born.

What are you thinking about this? Can it be done? what are your suggestions to improve this idea?

I meant damage to power itself which is greater than global bonuses and purple sets gives more % to their powers even without set bonuses.

Second part is your don't need to take spiritual yes it makes things easier but its not mandatory.

You can get soulbound allegience as well with ancilary sets last summon powers and there is only 3 purple sets gives global damage bonus anyway.

For last part its your choice not to rely insps for 20 seconds but its not just a softcap. Elude also gives best recovery in the game which is an important point for a kat/SR if you are not using insps for 20 seconds thaan you will be using them to get your endurance refill anyway and you will be still relying on insps but this time not just 20 seconds in evey 6 minutes but every time your end bar gets low (which is like once in every 45 to 90 second without elude)

Now, the average defense debuff is 7.5%. 10% of that would be 0.75%, and an SR will only be affected by 5% for a total of 0.325% debuff per attack. If you have 46% defense, you would need to be hit with 4 of those debuffs within 10 seconds to drop below the soft cap. The odds of being hit by 4 debuffs within 10 seconds are not good when you have that much defense to begin with.
Since soft cap means only %5 of attacks will hit it means 1 in every 20 attacks will hit. 4 successful attacks make it 80 attacks in 10 seconds in general asuming that each individual can make 2 or 3 attack in 10 s you need to be surrounded by at least 26 attacker but if you get this much attack in 10 seconds than you don't need to worry about defense debuff since you will be probably dead by that time.

Now Devouring Earth and Nemesis are another story but they get tohit buff and accuracy buff which at one point not even elude save the toon.

Chasing after ridiculous levels of recharge also means you're missing out on damage bonuses, so it's simply not worth it in my book.
Actually if what I hear was true you may have "Almost" Perma-elude albeit like you said with huge amount of recharge but most of huge recharge bonuses comes from purple sets which also gives best damage bonus to your powers. Now looking at numbers. Elude can get down to 200 second recharge which is 20 second more than its duration. With new burnout you can get your second elude just before previous one was expires and crashes and you don't need to wait until elude ends to use burnout either so it may look like this. Oh following example assumes you also manage to get burnout's recharge down to 6 minutes.

    Elude->burnout->around 170 sec->elude->180 sec->crashdown->20second->elude->burnout->again.

at each 6 minute (or 5 minute and 50 seconds) you will have only a 20 second down and since you can use blue inspirations while crashed down (it just don't renew natually otherwise you can use any methods) I don't see it as a non-plausible option. Especially it may save you to make a total defense soft-cap with other powers in SR and just get to %32.5 (limit to one small purple) 20 seconds is enough time to survive with just inspirations. With just putting one IO defense ench to each SR power+maneuvre gives %31.1 defense before any set bonuses added. With weave it rises to %32 but at this point I think maneuvre is enough since there will be set bonuses too.

Or at level 50 you can just use barrier destiny before crashdown happens you don't even need to toggle back since barriers recharge and duration are at 120 seconds at best choice.
  19. I have a kat/sr and overall it may be only thing I am playing on CoH besides my WS. I am convinced to try a kat/wp in the near future. Ans although someone was sarcastic about it I would like to see a shields if possible with katana but its just wishful thinking.
  20. I say if you didn't already put some cash into your kat/SR wait untill freedom is released. Many builds will be changed but I think almost all of SR builds will aim to get that almost 6 minutes long elude. I maybe wrong but I think its a too sweet deal to miss and probably people will focus on more recharge and higher dps with their SR builds.

Just how fast can you get Burnout recharging exactly? Wouldn't a power need to have a duration as long as the recharge on Burnout to use it to get something perma?
Considering that not even AV fights last more than 6 minutes (2 eludes total time give or take 20 seconds) and only incarnate trial contents have a non-breathing combat longer than 6 minute fights (only if you are trying MO btw or being unlucky and more than half doing trial for first time) I think calling it perma-elude is not an overreaction. Ofcourse I didn't tested it yet but if what OP said true burnout have 6 minute recharge. With current system you can get elude's recharge down to 200 second 20 second longer than its duration. so it will be like this.

Elude-burnout-elude-20sec-elude-burnout-elude. I don't think its a bad deal considering you are only vulnerable for 20 sec at every 6 minute rather than every 3.
  22. Kangstor

    Uses for Burnout

Perma elude with my kat/SR scrapper is what I am thinking with burnout and double build up sounds nice not to mention i can do something like this.

    BU-GD-BO-BU-GD

Obviousliy this is a combo only when burnout is up and probably I will need to put conserve power before first build-up and elude after second GD but putting double build up on second GD which has a higher critical chance......priceless. Ofcourse this requires testing and I should see if I can put another one or two attack before first BU expires into chain.

With perma elude I will aim for different focus on SR's usual powers (higher acc, to-hit, damage, end mod, regen etc) instead of trying to reach soft cap.
  23. Basicly reactives stacks up to 4 times (or its what everyone says anyway) on a target, be it from you or another player so if two player rquipped with reactive attacking to same target it won't get 8 stacks just 4. The game does not check who put the debuff on target but check what power is debuff comes from. If power is stackable than it stacks debuff's to a certain number like reactive as far as I know neither achielle not gladiator is stackable so with both proc+reactive you can put on a target at the same time %20 for achielle+%20 for gladiator+%10 (4*%2.5) reactive -res so in the best situation (pure luck with two procs but not impossible) you put %50 -res to one target

One thing I heard though maximum reactive stack is actually 6 but because of %25 to %75 hit chance and duration of reactive (10 sec iirc) noone see more than 4 stacks at one time.
  24. Kangstor

    Musings on SR

For katana and how interface proc works. If they didn't changed it again proc set off at each tick rather than each attack. Katana's top chain GC-GD-GC-SD does 6 tick attacks. I remeber DB also has powers with many ticks attacks but if I am not mistaken when calculated per second base katana has a slightly better result. I dont have mids at the moment so can't really comment. Fun thing with katana is you don't need very high recharge build to keep top chain going even with 1 sec delayed perma hasten you can get top chain going on. With SR things are a little odd for katana however. You already need iterrupt your top chain for hasten and build-up (and DA for other secondry sets) With SR though you need to interrupt it for PR too.

So if you are using Kat with other sets than you are interrupting top chain for three powers. BU, DA, Hasten

If you are using Kat with SR but not with high enough melee defense than you are interrupting chain for 4 powers BU, PR, Hasten, DA

However if you have soft capped melee than you interrupt for BU, PR, Hasten.

Since first and last stiuations only difference is having DA or PR lets look at their long-terms. DA's bonus stays for 10s which means at worst you need to use it at each 8 seconds (assuming its casting time is less than 2 more than 1 second like I said i don't have mids at the moment so cant compare.) to have perma melee def soft cap. PR on the other hand have 120 second duration. For DPS only its obvious which one is better. Ffor survivalbility however it really boils down to build, how often you are intending to use insps and some luck (on SP part)
  25. Warshade, any MM though i particualrly like ninja and demon.i think i have a fortuna around 31 too.
