    Zone Tetris

We used Praetoria earlier tonight. That's three extra zones for you to fit your heroes and villains into.

Edit: 6 if you want to go in the tunnels, but that's even more out of the way than usual.

There actually is a progress meter for the badge, which isn't any more different than the exp bar as you said.

The threads --> exp conversion could be much greater, at the very least. The slots don't take long to unlock in a trial but it's a black hole for threads if you don't do the trials.

Argue what you will. There's no going around the fact that the Incarnate system is designed around repeating the same tasks over and over again in pursuit of rewards. And I see no reason to repeat tasks with the same character when I can run them with different characters and get at least a tangentially novel experience from it.
You're right, it is. The incarnate system is to reward those who still play their 50s.

I still played my Brute for years after hitting 50. As an Incarnate, I can get progressively stronger again.

You don't need me to tell you that this system doesn't cater to you, but I hope you'll give the trials another good try in a week or two. They can be a lot of fun and you don't need a maxed out Alpha slot to be successful.

If we see "finished" as "put anything in the Alpha slot," then the answer is easy - solo, running whatever content I had left over from the trip to 50. After having run Ramiel's arc, of course. A common is... I want to say "easy," but it's not. Let's go with "doable" solo. An uncommon... Possibly. Beyond that, though - no, thanks.
I'd say the level shift, personally. The very rare is the extra mile, to me.

It's easy to get, even without a full group. Just run the WST every now and then, get some volunteers to help start the group then leave until you have your group of 5 friends or whatever.

If you've already run the TF but don't want to do it ever again, then that is really your own problem. It's there and easily accessable, you just don't want to do it.

Of course solo is a lot slower than with a team. The same has been true for the trip from 1 to 50 for the last few years.

I can respect that. What confuses me though is that people want the trials to be able to be done with 5 people when even the end game TFs we've had for a while now require at least 8 to start. If you're not fine with 8, then how are you even finished with your Alpha slot?

And if you are fine with 8, why not just do the Lambda Sector every now and then? Surely you do an STF, ITF, LGTF every now and then? Disregard anyone who says it's impossible with only that many and work at it, I've come close in only two days and with complete randoms. Was the first time for about half the team when we did, too.

On a slightly unrelated note, I'm finding my advancement through the powers to be pretty quick. I have all the rare and uncommon components I need for interface and judgement, and had enough threads to get to the rare immediately after unlocking lore. All the uncommon/rare components were from completing the BAF, and I only need threads now. I'm actually satisfied with getting the rest of my threads at the rate of incarnate shards (then converting them) since I already have the costier components out of the way. And that's after two days. Two days.

You can coordinate a full group of players you've never even met before in the BAF no problem, unless they purposely don't want to listen. If that is the case, Ventrillo would not help.

I don't want you to ever worry about Ventrillo becoming something that is required. I was able to do all of WoW's original 40 man raids while deaf, and I'm positive that COH's raid-lites will be easier to coordinate.

Well then, I'm suitably convinced that a casual team of 8 can fill out all the incarnate slots at a decent speed.

And if a team of 8 isn't considered casual then casuals have been getting screwed over for a while now.

And I don't even feel right using the word 'casual' in this context, these 'raids' are incredibly casual already.
  10. Lambda Sector can be started with a normal team of 8 people. As for whether or not it can actually be completed, I haven't tried it very many times or even finished it once, but the only time I came incredibly close to finishing it we had eight.

I'm liking the trials. I'm just not happy about how many times I have to do them to unlock the goods for my toons. I have (Currently) 5 toons that I'm taking down the incarnate path...>.<
I certainly wouldn't mind a "weekly" of some sort, but I'm guessing that wont come until there's a lot more trials to choose from.

I only have two heroes on the incarnate path, and one of them I didn't touch at all except to do the WST and I've made substantial progress on them based on the time I actually spent playing them, despite over a month of real-life time passing. I'm not in any real hurry, I guess. :x
  12. It's very likely that you'll get the 2.5m required to convert before 10 shards anyway, assuming they're all from drops and you didn't just break down one of those things from the weekly strike target. Even better if you find a rare piece of salvage.
  13. Just had my first BAF that crashed and burned. Despite most of the team living only as long as a full tray of purples lasts and constantly running back from the hospital, we managed to get to the last encounter. Simply couldn't keep up with the adds and kill the AVs at the same time.

I'm having a lot more fun than just doing normal radio missions or hero tips. In BAF, anyway. I've only done 5 Lamdba Sectors, and they all got to the end. Four didn't do so well because of the second to last part. Some were uncoordinated, others were just poor efforts by people afraid to use inspirations, despite passing by an infinite source of them every time they run back from death. The last one we got all the portals down right off the bat, but the adds from the crate drop offs were more than enough to overwelm us. Weird, I know. Still had a lot of fun on that last attempt, though.

I like the BAF a lot better, and I think future trials should be modeled after this one rather than Lambda. Those merits you get for killing the AVs are a great source of threads while in Lambda you need to do perfect on the second-to-last phase in order to get those merits.

The prisoner escape phase is unique and fairly lenient. Only gotten a perfect score on that once, but never had a group fail on this part.

I've been keeping my score, and unless I miscounted I'm at a whopping 12 BAF runs. Put off quite a bit of work to do them, which I'm about to return to after this post. Out of those, 8 were successes. Out of those successes, 6 had one of the final bosses die too early and rez. Out of those, 3 had half the group get sequestered right after one of them died.

My only gripe is with people who are obsessively negative. People who don't listen tend to pay attention after getting shot through the head by a tower, but people with bad attitudes will complain about the towers even after we beat the trial. It's a little disheartening, to be honest.

Thanks to all the random groups in Virtue I've been thrown into and the devs for the amazing experience. It was a blast. I'm going to go pass out somewhere, now.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add! I think the sabotage phase of Lambda Sector could use more starting time than five minutes. In my (though, admittedly limited) experience, groups will either steamroll it and have more than enough time or will end up with 2-3 temps.
  14. Yeah, I'd consider myself incredibly lucky if I got ten shards in drops before 2.5m inf.
  15. That is one wacky texture pack you've got there. I love it.
  16. Back in the day when COV was new, I ran with a static group and we'd always pass the same type of inspiration to the same person. I always got the reds and, when fighting AVs, the purples.

It's pretty amazing how plentiful they drop when you're solo, but it's even more amazing when you're fighting more enemies and killing them faster and eight people have empty slots to catch the drops with.

    Those were the days :<

Old updater works fine still, they didn't pull the plug on it yet.
  18. The primary reason I took Muscles was because my pets would benefit from it as well. I'm finding it easy to stack tons of recharge bonuses on my Crab Spider, and along with those comes enough recovery to hopefully not need cardiac once I finish slotting out.
  19. There's a lot of amazing powers in this game that you can do quite well without. That's just the nature of City of Heroes.

I'd still strongly recommend Venom Grenade.

It has done bad things to the 50 population, I'm not sure how a better way to distribute notice of the well is, but something related difficulty would be more fitting (as it should respond directly to will to obtain it). That said, we have don't have a strong enough reason now to raise the difficulty, there should definitely be reward reflected on TF's where the difficulty is +2 or higher.
In this case instead of running a different TF every week, people will be running the easiest or the fastest TF, forever.

I would soooo run on lowbie teams...
Hell, I'd settle for just finding shards. With the amount of shards needed for the highest alpha boost, I feel like I'm wasting time if I'm not on a 50 team.
  22. Honestly, I'd choose based on their name and the little note they set that you can see in the search window. And their info if they're close by.

It's a little shallow, but it's a better experience for everyone on the team if I don't invite someone who never talks or if I don't invite someone who's incredibly rude.

Of course there's no way to properly judge people at a first glance based on these things, but if you're unsure, there's always a fallback.

    Take the scrapper.
  23. Blasters aren't 'ranged'. They're 'damage'.

And melee attacks are a lot of damage.
