  1. Just got a 50 that's in good with groups I like to hang out with, a Katana/Electric scrapper. Looking for help on a build.

Starting with a build I got somewhere else, I tried working something up; my goals are "generically all-around good, not obscenely expensive, good for PLing SGmates and friends".

  2. I think the question is, and I need the answer to this also now, do we have to worry about the following:

Fight enemy. Placate. AS. In the middle of AS, CoF ticks and reveals us, removing hidden status and fouling up AS. <-- is this a problem?
  3. Healing is seriously overrated. If nobody is getting hurt, who needs healing? Answer: Nobody. Most Defenders can keep the team from getting hurt. FF in particular I never saw a huge demand for healing around. My FF has medicine and yes, she uses it sometimes, but most of the incoming damage is so gradual that it's unnecessary to worry overmuch about it.

So get the whole idea that "I have to heal!" out of your head. Everyone heals naturally. in essence, my FF heals people quite well WITHOUT medicine pool, by leveraging their natural regen rate.

There is no 'support/mez'. There is no '*/mez' period. If you want to be full support you will need to go mez/support.

Defenders with -resist and Corruptors of all sorts pull together on damage. Defenders are very potent in support. Our blast sets have some support or mez in it, but not so much that you can envision yourself as a Controller. I suppose if you went ape with Dark Blast slotting or maybe Ice Blast you could get some of that going on, but you still wouldn't be a control type.
  4. Minor issue, but infuriating and cripples the power rather a bit...

Why oh why can I not slot Flash Arrow for range? I'd like to be able to be able to use it on enemies, you know.. BEFORE I get close enough that they see me...
  5. The thing that would make FA less squishy would be the addition of some melee, pbaoe, etc. sets that give significant +S/L Resist. There's no end of ways to boost defense of all types, but for characters without S/L Resist already, there's currently no ways to fix the hole. Either you have it already, or you don't.
  6. I got this from a CoH guru I work with a lot for my trapper. It.. looks good, I think? Something about it seems wonky to me, but I just can't put my finger on it and it may well be something that -i'm- trying to do wrong myself. I might like the ability to exemp down a bit too, and I don't think levels got adjusted in it.
Apologies for not having it forum displayed, as mids is on my laptop and I have to do a goofy bootup to access it. If someone wanted to forumdisplay the thing in a reply feel free.

  7. Right. When I get rezzd, mostly it's in the middle of the fight and i'm fine with that. I'm much more concerned with 'Do I have Fortitude? Did RA and RecA go off in the middle of the fight, not way back when nobody needed it? Does someone have AB?' Most of the time, i'm not worried about someone else managing my health for me, particularly if we're being buffed correctly. Having a primadonna stand around spamming green numbers on us when we're not getting hurt and contributing nothing else of value, however, is enraging.
  8. Hit your right alt key twice. Now set the second one to 2 and the third to 3. The middle one is LeftAlt-number, the top is Control-number.
  9. Trick Arrow/Psi Blast comes to mind - no way to light the oil slick if you chose the wrong origins.
  10. I wasn't planning on using them for Trip Mine, I was planning on using them for Time Bomb. I was clearing defeat x's in Numina by walking into groups of minions, setting a time bomb, walking back, counting to ten, and popping Full Auto on them so that the bomb would go off as they were being hosed down with ammo. Maybe of I mix Seeker Drones in before the Full Auto it would work. Ignite is useful for the tougher stuff, but it's too small for area damage.
I'm comparing against my Dark/Dark at a similar level. Somewhat frustrating. I'm sure there's a trick to it.
oh, and Triage Beacon looked like it heals faster than my WP scrapper who leans heavily on regen as mitigation in a full pack of enemies, it looked like. So I can't complain.
  11. Theoretically, Traps should be a beast, solo. I am told that Traps is hideously powerful solo.
Uhm.. I'm not doing half bad, but I haven't realized the awesomesauce that other people seem to indicate I should be seeing when solo, is it something i'm doing? Mostly i'm setting down Triage, throwing Seeker Drones (slotted for range and recharge), dropping a Acid Mortar, throwing 'trops under my feet, maybe throwing down poison trap in combat because they're on me by that point, then shooting everything. Sometimes I plant boomgardens for them to charge into, but it seems like it just takes too long and I only get a couple of the ones that charged in first. Just picked up Mass Hyp, thinking it might be useful for setting up the Time Bombs (using Trip Mine for 6 units of KB set, the one with the KB protect, figure Time Bomb will be useful for that as well) but I haven't had a chance to slot it yet. Is my technique bad or am I just missing something?

Have you ever USED seekers? They appear wherever you tell them to appear when you click the targeting circles. Which for me is always in the middle of the main mob. No distraction involved. Then it debuffs the holy eck out of them - so it eats the alpha and seriously downgrades beta damage, that's a must-have.

<Triage Beacon> still isnt a massive amount anyway and regen rarely saves anyones butts in PvE, regen scrappers always complain about sucking in the PvE game and they will have much more regen than that.
My farming character is a /Willpower, played as a regenerator because that's how I set up my defenses primarily. Jumping into 17 mobs with a fully slotted RttC, their regeneration percentage per second is significantly lower than the number that pops up on my Traps defender when I drop Triage Beacon.
And I don't recall hearing any whining from Regen scrappers about their PvE abilities; they've all been quite satisfied with their survivability in most situations.

I know poison gas trap cant be interupted but it doesnt change the fact trip mine can :P
It just doesnt fit in with a ranged attack strategy for the reasons I mentioned earlier in this post. Melee range, yes its amazing, ranged attacking like defenders were designed, then no.
I assume you use trip mine differently. -I- put one or two behind my traps before a big pull; my trip mines are slotted for knockback, since that's what I find them most useful for. When mobs run around the corner to beat on the poor Blaster taking a knee, there is an explosion and they get flung back to land on the tank.

That was then, when their main protective powers were bugged. At present, Dark Miasma is on the top end of Defender powersets, and generally the Defender powerset of choice for powergamer types who want to do things like solo AV's and TF's, farm, and the like.

Running on Linux. Nothing i've tried has gotten bindloadfile to do a darned thing beyond give an error message, and the number pad does nothing.
So unless someone has DEFINITIVELY found a solution without asking questions, please restrain answers to ones that answer the actual questipon please.

    Bind problem

I'm running CoH on a less than common OS, and there are two things that I CANNOT seem to use: /bindloadfile and the number pad.

Does anyone have any bind setups that would work well for me? I use qweasd movement, and poiulkh for chat channels.
  19. Web Grenade: Yawn. Mostly I use it for the -fly, or to reduce recharge on AV's.
Caltrops: Put recharge in it. Use it to block chokepoints or to stand on and keep melees away.
Triage Beacon: Lots of people will tell you how useless this power is. Don't believe them. It doesn't LOOK like it's doing much, but the difference in your team's survivability is typically rather dramatic.
Acid Mortar: This is your bread and butter. Recharge until you hit ED, some accuracy, then either procs or defense debuff. You'll want to use this at every fight.
Force Field Generator: Important. Slot for defense. Not much point putting anything else in it, in my opinion.
Poison Trap: I find this to be a good hold. I don't as often use it as a trap. You'll need it for AV's and G_M's anyways.
Seeker Drones: VERY IMPORTANT. These are your tanks. I have mine slotted 3 recharge and 2 range right now. I use them to eat alpha strikes while weakening the mobs. They're great for that. Pop them into the middle of a group and everything will turn on them and attack. Then they look up and you've got some mayhem set up for them, and their big attacks are recharging.
Trip Mine: I actually end up using this more for the knockback than for the damage. It is pretty good damage, but Defender damage scale isn't as inspiring. So I put tripmines in chokepoints, and when enemies rush in, they go flying right back out.
Time Bomb: This is probably really effective if you can figure out how to use it right. It's that big 'if' that's the problem.

    Bot/TA builds?

    Level 10 Robotics/Trick Arrow Mastermind

    1: Battle Drones /Empty/Empty/Empty/Empty/Empty
    1: Entangling Arrow /Empty
    2: Flash Arrow /Empty
    4: Glue Arrow /Empty/Empty/Empty
    6: Equip Robot /Empty
    8: Hasten /Empty/Empty/Empty
    10: Ice Arrow /Empty

This is my only redside character at present, and as such, I do not have infamy for a lot of sets while levelling up. I can try to build some IOs, but mostly they will be things like 25 and 30 standard IOs, or some of the oddball set pieces.

    Bot/TA builds?

Does anyone have some low budget, non-respec builds for Robot/Trick Arrow that do not use the pulse rifle that I can look at? Hazy on what sort of pool powers will be important to take mainly, but i'm also interested in knowing if there are any powers that aught be skipped or slotted differently that are not immediately apparent.
  22. I recently heard someone suggest a claws/elec scrapper for this.. Myself, i'm levelling a spine/WP at quite a hefty rate. Some teams cause them headaches, though; the ones where you're surrounded by /regen and /SR scrappers and blasters with maybe a defender or two, mostly.
  23. I have serious problems with some sets because they lack knockback; I always end up frustratedly having to slot for it so that I can support the scrappers and blasters in the team. Quit trying to remove anything that needs something more than a brain stem.
  24. The unique is because it dropped and looks useful; i'm thinking that i'll do 5 of that set and a heal IO in RTTC. It's being warehoused in Health right now. I want the self res though; you've seen how I play, and it's that or carry around a couple of large wakes, but I want the space for purple red and green. So far i've wandered all over the place on Raptor packs without issue.
  25. I was actually looking at device. My other 50 scrap has body mastery, and Caltrops seems like it would be a good tool to bunch up enemies with, among others (by stringing them along and letting th caltrops delay the early arrivals)
