2. PRIVATE BUSINESS PROPOSAL.
Gen. K Onjob
Heroesway House
Grandville
Rogue Isles - c/o Nigeria

25th August, 2009.

Salutations Mr Tow!

First I must solicit your confidence in this transaction. This is by virtue of its nature as being utterly confidential and top secret.

I am top hero of the Federal Government Contract Review Panel who are interested in importation of advanced rikti-fight weapons into our country with funds which are presently trapped in Nigeria. In order to commence this business we solicit your assistance to enable us RECIEVE the said trapped funds ABROAD.

The source of this fund is as follows : During the regime of our past beloved leader, President Marchand, the government officials set up companies and awarded themselves contracts which were grossly over-invoiced in various Ministries. The NEW Arachnos Government set up a Contract Review Advisory Panel (C.R.A.P) and we have identified a lot of inflated contract funds which are presently floating in the Central Bank of Arachnos-Nigeria (C.B.A.N).

However, due to our position as terrible ebil villains, I mean civil servants and members of this panel, we cannot acquire this money in our names. I have therefore, been delegated as a matter of trust by my colleagues of the panel to look for an Overseas partner whose ACCOUNT CAN ASSIST the sum of INF 1,900,000,000.00 (One Billion and Nine Hundred Million INF) to be moved via the CONSIGNMENT HOUSES. Hence we are writing you this letter.

We have agreed to share the money thus:
60% for us (the officials)
30% for the FOREIGN PARTNER (you)
10% to be used in settling taxation and all local and foreign expenses, including but not limited to Wentworths/Black Market fees.

Sadly due to the tight restrictions upon our resources we are needing half of the 10% CONSIGNMENT HOUSE FEES in advance from an external source in order to commit all the transactions. This means we need 5% (INF 95,000,00.00) to enable us to move our funds and pay you back INF 665,000,000.00 (35%) WITHIN 10 DAYS.

It is from this 60% that we wish to commence the importation business.
Please note that this transaction is 100% safe and we hope THAT THE FUNDS CAN ARRIVE YOUR ACCOUNT in latest ten (10) banking days from the date of reciept of the following information by PM/TELL: GENERAL K.ONJOB and TRADE INF 95,000,000.00 TO THE SAME ACCOUNT (GENERAL K.ONJOB) and then we can perform the CONSIGNMENT HOUSE TRANSACTIONS and subsequently INF 665,000,000.00 WILL BE PAID TO YOUR ACCOUNT BY TELEGRAPHIC TRANSFER.
A SUITABLE NAME AND GLOBAL ACCOUNT INTO WHICH THE FUNDS CAN BE PAID. PLEASE ENDEAVOUR TO RESPOND BY TELL OR PRIVATE MESSAGE.

The above information will enable us write letters of claim and job description respectively. This way we will use your company's name to apply for payments and re-award the contract in your company name.
We are looking forward to doing business with you and solicit your confidentiality in this transaction.

Please acknowledge receipt of this letter using the above TELL/PM Details. I will bring you into the complete picture of this pending project when I have heard from you.

Yours Faithfully,
GENERAL K.ONJOB @MAJOR_SCAM

PS - You can trust us entirely, Mr Tow. There is definitely no need to contact any GMs about this.
3. The MMORPG.COM article mentions 'improvements' to AE that are all already in-game...
Quote:
Architect Entertainment also will receive some improvements with Issue 16. Some AE missions will fall under the category of Developer Choice Missions. These missions will embody those elements the developers feel make excellent missions, and will be deemed outstanding by the developers. In Developer Choice Missions, the players will be able to select whether the rewards dropped are salvage and enhancements, or AE tickets. Developers Choice Missions are always chosen by the developers, but there is a Hall of Fame category for AE missions which are completely player chosen. The Hall of Fame will make it much easier for the favorite missions to be found.
Since the reporter was given a tour of 'new features' by the devs I'm wondering what new bits are actually coming that have been misreported (maybe even just a new batch of dev choices?) or whether the reporter just got hideously confused.

2b. He will announce the 'Go Live' date of I16.
Only NA server downtime has been announced - and usually, iirc, any patches/issues/hamster-surgery is done on all the servers. I'd guess that the NA extended downtime may not result in any noticeable changes ingame, except possibly less lag problems (if it's linked to the dxp problems some servers had). So I'd guess option 1 is out.

I16 'go live' is theoretically dependent on I16 open beta (assuming that there is one) - so 2b is out.

It could easily be I16 open beta news.

Though it could also be linked to GR - and since the loyalty scheme subscription period has now started it wouldn't really surprise me if some more GR tidbits (and possibly anticipated beta schedule) were announced soon.

It's not actually a RNG that's used, it's a system based upon the observation of buses.

I know we never see buses at Paragon bus stops, but I'm sure that one day 3 will turn up at once.
6. I'm reposting this checklist for the memorisation badges. I'd saved a local copy from the European boards a year or 2 back and the original appears to have been wiped from the boards. I don't actually know who the original poster was - so sorry for not crediting you if you're still playing with us!

I've searched the current boards and can't find a guide to the badges that's as easy and handy to use as this one - and after people were asking about the badges on a EU global channel I thought I'd repost this!

Here is the original post:
__________________________________________________ ___________
As I badge-hunt on a few characters, I collated this information to make it easier for myself to keep track of which basic IO enhancements I have made, what ingredients I need for each, etc. I hope that this information lay out may also prove useful to others.

There are a total of 45 'Memorization' badges. I'll begin with an explanation to how these Badges are gained.

Once you have made enough basic IO enhancements, you gain a badge, which means you no longer need the recipe, and the crafting cost is halved for making those enhancements in future. At that point, you should be much more able to make a profit selling enhancements you make to cover the millions you spent getting the badges.

For example, to gain the memorization Warhead badge (Damage and Knockback IO's) you need to have made 8 Level 25, 8 Level 30, and one more of either Level 25 or 30 ( 8 + 8 + 1 = 17 enhancements in all. ) It doesn't matter if the IO enhancements you craft are Damage or Knockback - both count - just that they are of the requisite Level(s).

Once you have made those 17 Damage/Knockback IO enhancements, you can craft Level 25 or 30 Damage or Knockback enhancements at half usual crafting cost, no recipe required.

In addition to being able to memorize the recipes, you can also gain bonus slots to your characters maximum carrying capacity of Invention Salvage and Recipes. Every Level 25/30 Badge grants you +2 Max Invention Salvage capacity, and every Level 45/50 Badge grants you +1 Max Recipe carrying capacity, meaning from these you can gain 18 extra spaces for invention salvage and 9 extra spaces for recipes. They don't effect the space in your characters personnel storage vault.

Also, there is an Accolade power available, 'Fabricator': if you gain all the Level 10, 15/20, 25/30, 35/40 Badges below (you don't need the 45/50 Badges for the Accolade), and the Master Craftsman badge (for making 1000 enhancements/base components/items), you can summon an invention worktable to you, that anyone can use, for 5 mins, once every hour - and I agree thats not great lol, but it'll probably be quite a 'status symbol' for us Badgehunters.

Below is my collated list, with the ingredients needed for each enhancement in that badge 'set' by recipe levels. Copy and paste this and print out as needed.

It does look like a possible error if the names were handwritten at any point. Oh well - maybe I better consider changing my name in RL.

If there is no mission that is currently active, then the level is set to the leader of the Team.

If you are below the level you are getting set to, you are automatically sidekicked up to one level below the owner’s level, just as if you had sidekicked to them. If you are above the level, then you will be lowered to the level of the owner, just as if you exemplared down.

The players don’t need to do anything for this to happen, it all happens automatically. This means that no matter what level ranges you have in your group, you can ALWAYS play together and you can ALWAYS get XP. Yes, we are even changing the way exemplaring works so that you get XP while you are fighting at a lower level. There will be an option of having the “old way” of exemplaring, and earning extra Inf. instead, for those players who want to earn some more Inf. instead of levels.
Hmmm... Mentor tetris gone. Virtually any player being eligible to join any team for any mission. Exemped characters able to earn xp (and possible not take as big a hit on their powers as they do now).

The pool of realistically available players for recruiting teams just got a lot bigger.

So are there any plans in place to revamp the character search interface?

Even just allowing teamed/solo to be filtered and a larger set of displayed results would be starter steps... And, unless it's becoming important in planned future issues, why is origin shown in the search results? Heck - show more of the search comment rather than irrelevant information.

Any hope of a team-based/LFM search (to complement the character-based search)?

There was a dev (BaBs?) commented a while back that they'd had some thoughts about this - did it end up unworkable? Or might we see a LFM search soon?

Just thinking that the changes would seem to make teaming easier - but the larger pool of possible teammates could perversely make it somewhat harder to recruit without improving the search tools. Being able to search teams that are recruiting would be the real icing on the cake once super-SK makes teaming with anyone easier.

Yeah, Okay... I'm being greedy.
11. SSers don't run if they also use the prestige powerslide.

And given that we have a range of unusual and alien metabolisms there's no saying that a character couldn't be incredibly fat whilst being a world-class athlete.

BTW - Does fat give res(all but Psi)? I guess it gives a def debuff though...

This.

Since arcs are tested for validity, I'd also like to see authors of affected arcs being sent a global tell notifying them that their arc may have been affected.

Pretty certain that removing assets from MA doesn't cause all arcs using the assets to become invalid.

When Prisoners dissapeared again my arc using them (for a Prison riot in one mission - hell of an exploit that was) was not marked as invalid - but on entering the mission that used them the map was virtually free from spawns. i.e. the Prisoners had disappeared but the arc was still valid.

When generators vanished from the destructible objects, my arc using them (to sort-of-recreate a mission from the Hess TF) was not marked as invalid. The mission that they were used in just ended up having no destructible items spawn. i.e. the objects dissapeared but the arc was valid.

Both of these occured after the devs had started marking arcs as invalid.

Both of these only showed that they had changed (and were not what was intended and originally published) by playing/testing/editing the arc.

16. I had a couple when I was just starting the game...

I'd only been playing for about 5 or 6 hours when I discovered a brilliant exploit to get easy xp - just complete most of the annoying clockwork mission I was on and then, just before completing it, logout and back in and the mission is reset.

I must have done that about 5 times before getting bored - which probably explains part of my aversion to farms - but it was easy-ish xp for a very new blaster who seemed to be more glass than cannon and hadn't the confidence to try teaming yet.

And a couple of days later I got teleport as my first travel power - but didn't know you could chain it before fully materialising and so kept get falling damage every time I took to the skys. Other than the odd in-mission jump to ledges/balconies I only used it for jumps at ground-level, which probbaly took me as long to arrange as running did as I had to be careful not to tp into a spawn.

It took until about late-20s/early-30s before I found out you could chain them... Still think that the hovertime for tp is far too short though.

It really takes double the number of keystrokes to write thanks rather than thx. It may well take more than double the time and effort if written by a one-fingered typist on a standard QWERTY keyboard due to the distances betweenthe AS keys and the HNK keys. i.e. the distances moved going from the T key to the H key then to the X are less than half the distances travelled moving T to H to A to N to K to S.

Although it should be noted that neither thanks, nor any of the common in-game abbreviations for the word, takes anywhere near the time and effort that this post did. But I took the pedantry secondary powerset, and I slotted it, so I'll darn well use it!

Sister Flame is the online handle of my middle daughter, currently six years old. She's been playing City of Heroes since she was 4 and 1/2. It was only over the last year we began to team together with my two accounts and have a lot of fun. I thought I let you know what Sister Flame has learned from CoX.
She's not learned that Europeans are weirdo oddballs has she????

Been a while that we've (the EU) been able to read about Sister Flame but not post back. A heartwarming tale - hope she's still enjoying the game!

Hostage: "Oh, thank ****, a Hero!"

Now, where reality steps in and busts some heads;
Hostage: "Oh, thank God, a Hero!"
Actually the censored version shows a 4-letter word being censored (**** not ***) so was that 'thank F***'?

Finally safe!

And we get further proof, if more were needed, that the universal architect is English: Our world couldn't be annihilated whilst England is doing well in the Ashes...

No other nationality of supreme being would have seen this as cause to postpone armageddon.

Just realised that I spoke too soon.

Obviously any deity/universal power is English* and so they'll be using day/month/year representation of dates but they'll also be using GMT for times. No need to dilute it to British Summer Time when Greenwich is firmly in England.

So it's another 50 minutes or so until the apocalypse. Enjoy!

* not getting into this - if you can't see that it's obvious then there's probably no reasoning with you.

Are all of those straight Australian versions of the given US/British terms?

Just going off the fact that many of your Oz versions are common terms in British English as well (but maybe for slightly different things).

Panties/Knickers are female undergarments, but, iirc, in the UK Jocks usually refers to male equivalent and undies is used but isn't gender-specific.

Do Australians call all trousers 'Jeans'? Or just jeans (and possiblt similar clothing - cargo pants?).

Cardy exists in British English as a shortened form of Cardigan - which is similar to a sweater/jumper but features a buttoned opening at the front (similar to a jacket/blazer/shirt).

Is Ute any truck/lorry? The latter terms are for fairly heavy non-articulated goods vehicles, whereas I'd always thought ute (from utility vehicle iirc) was a lighter, more general-purpose vehicle - maybe like a British van/truck.

Just asking more as differences in language variations fascinate me - so I like to try getting them straight in my head.

Still love the early 80's TV shows that the Manchester (England) comedian Mike Harding did after trips to Australia and USA. His disbelief at both the size of Australian spiders hiding under the dunny seat and that Durex* was a leading sticky-tape brand were great: Oh - I see - It's a do-it-yourself job?

As was his (obviously fictitious) tale of buying a creamcake in New York and a dog grabbing the fruit of the top of it - leading to him proclaiming to a shocked shop assistant that he'd just lost his cherry to a dog - it ran off down the road with it!

* It's a brand of prophylactic in Britain.

I'm only in my mid 30's yet I remember when the word used in the context of "That's lame" It didn't mean it was just lame, but that it was "Very homosexual like, and therefor lame". No matter how many people forget the usage in the past doesn't negate that past.
Y'see I was perfectly happy before gay came to mean homosexual and just referred to being bright/cheerful. As soon as words start being appropriated for slang there's going to be misunderstanding and possible offence caused.

Heck - it's not as if we've run out of possible words that can be reasonably pronounced by a tongue attuned to English.

But there's part of me that see that as inevitable linguistic 'progress' (much as I dislike much of this 'progress' made in recent history).

Hopefully, since the gay as just 'lame' definition isn't going to be lost so quickly, the use of gay as 'lame because it's homosexual' will be forgotten quick enough. Maybe it even lingers longer if people get upset about it's derivation and so keep drawing attention to it.

That's a pretty good slice just of the players, and a darn good slice of the forum goers; our error rate is going down quite nicely. But posts on a thread like this isn't a random sample - it's a sample of people who wanted to volunteer the information.

I'd imagine that it's more likely that you get people who consider their number or distribution of alts unusual.

Much better was the old stats pages on City Info Tracker - but they dissapeared some time ago. Ok - it'd still have a bias but my guess is it'd be more representative of the population than a thread is.

On the OP:
I'm an EU player, so limited on servers as my German/French is poor at best, but play multiple accounts:

Soldiers: 2
Widows: 2
Blaster: 6
Brute: 3
Controller: 8
Corruptor: 5
Defender: 11
Dominator: 2
Mastermind: 6
Peacebringer: 1
Scrapper: 8
Stalker: 2
Tanker: 6
Warshade: 1

Most characters are natural origin - just because it hardly matters in-game and I got used to the SO names!
