IRL I have a short temper and tend to fly off the handle. In game I mostly play scrappers and brutes, although I do have a 50 controller, MM and corrupter too.

Easy to start thinking you're one of the sainted few when you happen to get lucky enough to catch a dev's attention. Grow up and get over yourself. I don't make arcs myself, but I've played a number of arcs that were FAR superior to any of the DC arcs that just didn't get any attention because the authors didn't have the time/desire to ***** themselves out on the AE channel or PM the Devs 24/7 in order to get noticed.

HoF and Dev's choice have done as much to destroy interest in the AE as any nerfs. The high requirements for AE and the minute chance of being lucky enough to catch a Dev's eye probably discouraged a lot of decent mission makers, thus further increasing the ratio of farms over story based missions.
At this point, the vast majority of the community has decided to give the MA a pass, and it just doesn't justify any further resources being wasted on it.
IMO they should simply remove all of the rewards, halt further development of the AE and reallocate resources to projects that would be of benefit to the entire playerbase, because the playerbase is never going to come back to the AE in any significant numbers no matter what they do. -
I think if they bring back the IoP, it should be a bonus for either red side or blue side as a whole for each server, rather than for SGs. They could also have a "grey" side where the Rogues and Vigilantes team up. So each of the three sides would be able to try to capture the IoPs from the other in order to give their side a bonus.
But first, they have to nerf the Alb Zerg. -
Most of the stories I tried were garbage that makes bad fanfic look good. Even the Dev's choice and Hall of Fame arcs were of worse quality than the majority of the official missions. There were probably a couple of ones that were decent, but not so memorable that I can name any.

Since, other than the VEATS, they've refused since launch to let you join existing factions or access their costume pieces (I'd like some Freakshow faction/costume pieces, myself), I'll wager that no, no one will ever play a PPD/Longbow AT.

Quote:Except that this clearly is the paradigm they're operating under...not just for PvP but for everything. That logic is the exact same logic they used as to why they focus more on heroes vs. villains. Less players = less dev time.I like your whole discussion ChaosExMachina, but am only pointing to these comments. Assuming the role of village idiot (its only a role, people), I ask: Is this really what Paragon Studios is thinking? Because it sounds cyclical and self-defeating.
"No significant PVP", so...
PVP players tend to go elsewhere, so...
there'll be no significant fix to PVP because "there isn't enough of a userbase"
Potential PVP players won't stay because (wrap back to first line)
seems to me, if the above loop is acurate, then the answer is to break the loop and take Ray's path in Field of Dreams: if Paragon Studios builds it, they will come.
Basically they're operating kind of like TV execs, where if a show isn't an instant hit, then it gets the axe. If something doesn't immediately attract a majority of the user base, then it just gets ignored.
Of course, in a fit of insanity, anything that is too popular (Like AE, for instance) gets nerfed until it's so broken that no one wants to bother with it...triggering the "just ignore it, no one uses it" philosophy. -
My SS/WP Brute's clone was a Archery/Sonic. Buffed me up nicely then proceeded to die in about two seconds. Of course, with all the buffing, I didn't really need it any more.

I want to punt puppies like footballs and tell little kids there's no Santa or Easter Bunny.
-
The two of you should just do what villians are good at...drag the AE system off to a deserted spot, torture it for a few hours, shoot it in the head, then bury it where no one will ever find it.
Hopefully that will send a message to any other resource-sucking wastes of time that try to worm their way in to the game, so that you can get to working on things that will actually improve the player experience. -

Quote:Good thing then that the type of SG that would do that offer nothing of value to the vast majority of players then. If they're willing to kick people out over prestige, then it's a sure bet they aren't a helpful, social SG, nor are they letting people freely use the base storage. It's been mentioned that Vigilantes and Rogues won't earn Prestige. If they stay with that model, that's a strong reason not to stay grey; in fact, doing so would likely get you kicked out of many SGs.
The only thing that the "OMG u must earn xxx prestige" type of SG ever offered was the use of teleporters, which were nothing but a mild convenience anyhow. With ith the Oro portal, you rarely even have a use for base teleporters, and if you happen to have the Pocket D or mission transporters you'll likely never even want to bother with them at all. -
Quote:Exactly. Most other developers probably decided that it was a bad idea to expend a huge amount of resources on a project that will require continual rebalancing in order to combat exploits, while at the same time only being of interest to a small percentage of the player base.I suspect that is more because other developers realized the huge problems inherent in allowing players to create custom content with rewards attached, and thought better about the idea.
This thing is like a black hole, constantly sucking in dev resources. -
At this point I'd just as soon they shut the whole thing down. It's an abject failure in terms of drawing in customers, and a drain on resources that could be better spent in other areas.
-
Might as well. No one that wants to legitimately level at a reasonable pace uses the MA anyhow. It's either people that really don't care how fast or even if they level or people trying to use the latest exploit to level faster.

I wish girlfriends were more like this game.
"Honey, I've been dating some other people for a few months now, and there's this one I really like. I want to dump you for a few months, but I just want to make sure that if I don't like her, or get bored, that I can still come back to you. For a little while." -
I don't know if I'd agree that there aren't many other reasons that contribute. It is however one of the biggest complaints I read about us on other sites or reviews, so it's definitely been a highly visible negative, which has kept some customers away.

We did also get a bit of a hint as to how the system would work, as Melissa explained that the Incarnate system would “reward you for stuff you’d be doing at endgame anyway.” -

Quote:Only since about 2006 or so.I'm clicking along, on a thread or to add a post or to edit a post, and it'll just sit there "Waiting for boards.cityofheroes.com" for a while. There's a progress bar, but it's not filling. Sometimes it eventually goes through, other times I get the old "Server has timed out" screen or another similar error message. I can open up other sites with no delay at all while this is going on, and in fact have gotten into the habit of having another tab open so I can find something to read while the board debates. Been an issue for about a month now, during which time I've seen a Firefox update. I get the same non-response on my work PC occasionally too, which is stuck with IE, and which I hasten to add gets its cookies cleared out often.
Checked the tech section, last forum complaint I saw there (that wasn't the "Remember me?" problem) was months old. Anyone else having this issue? -
Not even close. Good MMOs pick what they do well and go with it. For example, this game isn't still deciding what it is. It's a Superhero combat simulator. Everything is oriented towards making a custom superhero and fighting villains with them. WoW is a PvE Raid and Loot game. While some have other elements (Like tacked on PvP), the core of the game is very clear and focused.
Some games that couldn't decide "what they were":
Star Wars Galaxies
Tabula Rasa
Auto Assault
Hellgate, London
See the pattern? -

Quote:This. No matter what way you go, DP will be somewhat disappointing as far as damage is concerned. The best option is to just go with a concept that works for you as well as a secondary or primary that has some kind of a +dmg power. I went with dp/kin but I doubt I will be taking her Rogue. The secondary effects are nice, but don't expect to outdo a fire blaster when swapping to your incendiary rounds.
DP is just about the worst, most disappointing set in terms of effectiveness. If you want to play a support toon (def or corr) or a concept toon for casual play with some flashy looking but useless attacks, it's good for that. But don't expect DP to be strong or contribute very much to a team or solo as well as other sets.
