Playing one of the RWZ arcs the other day, Faultline and Fusionette were helping me take out the AV.
[NPC]Faultline: /t Fusionette So, you wanna go to a movie tonight?
[NPC]Faultline: Oops! Mistell! Let's get back to the business at hand

now thats quality!!! LOL -
what are some of the epic npc chat lined you have run across. Ill get it started
NPC] Student: He said something I didn't like, so I broke his arm. I'm not seeing that as aggressive. Think he'll still go out with me? He DID say he liked strong women.
[NPC] Student: I have no response to that. -

A month or two? How about 'never'. There are thousands of non-farm, non-exploit MA arcs. The GMs are too busy to ban farm arcs or copyright violations that are reported (I know since I've been reporting them). The Devs are too busy to play more than one arc a day, if that, to evaluation for DC (as per Positron's post).
So who would be reviewing arcs? When? How fast?
The only way to deal it is to follow up on reports and fix exploits.
I know if my arc had to go on a months... or years... long wait for approval, I would never write anything ever again. I'd also quit playing MA in protest.
[/ QUOTE ]
you would still be allowed to publish your arc. Its just if you wanted an arc published with everything unlocked that has been taken away, or they will never give us, you have to submit it to a verification process, where in a sense it gets devs choiced. -
Putting every mish that is published through a verification process. Im talking custom spawn points (i cant linky it but positron said we dont get custom spawn points due to farming), map creator. Go over everything that has been removed due to farming and throw that back in. Sure it may take a month or two for the gms to get to your mission arc to okay it, but really that is the only way we are going to get what we really want out of this system.
they need to create a seperate category, like the hall of fame or devs choice, that has all of the missions that have been through a verification process. that way you make it so you can still publish un-verifed missions, they will just be subject to all the current nerfs and any in the future. Face it folks, this is the only way that the AE and mission architect going to reach its full potential. -
the whole point for farming as far as i am concerned or pling or whatever. is this mmo is aboslutly completely different from any other game out there, as there are frikkin a million different toons and combos that i want to play. we have more character possibility in just our game then warcrack, eq2, conan, lotr, and 5 other random mmos you want to throw out combined. i have 7 level 50's have already filled up two servers, working on a 3rd, and there is still no way i will get to all of them. thats why i pl/farm.

Nobody has offered any insight as to why farming should be done through PI portal missions or the Television, but not through AE. And, just to shore up a possible dead-end discussion, "because the Devs said so," isn't an explanation why one is ok, but not the other. It's just an observation that the Devs have targeted only the AE farms, and not PI/TV farms.
Is it because of exploits like Comm Officers and mobs with no ranged attacks?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's because the MA puts unprecedented power in the hands of the players to create content. The intent is for players to create story based content and not farms (source: Original Post, Original Post.)
Now because players have a great deal of power in creating missions, some feel the need to abuse that power to find ways to exploit it for powerleveling purposes. ( I do not say farming because powerleveling can be done through a number of different methods, farming being one),
Now the reality is if people farm the rest of the game, they are limited to the missions designed by the devs, so they presumably have the proper degree of risk/reward. But the problem with the MA isn't the Rikti Comm Officers, it's the ability to make missions LIKE the rikti comm officers... and the rikti dolls, and the melee boss farms... and whatever is the new trend. Because each time something like that happens, the devs have to try and play keep up with the MA and that leaves the rest of us in fear of what will happen to the MA if people continue to abuse it.
Case in point, several villain goups have been removed from the MA entirely because of exploiters (i.e Zig Prisoners). Those of us with arcs that used that group now have our missions invalidated by those changes.
In short, exploiters in the MA hurt EVERY user of the MA. We all get options removed, groups removed, maps removed, because of those exploiters. Farming in the rest of the game doesn't really impact us in nearly as a direct way as it does in the MA. If people abuse it enough, they may remove all rewards from the MA or remove the MA entirely and NONE of us want to see that.
So thats why we're much touchier about abuses in the MA as opposed to farming in the rest of the game. We don't want to see a great aspect of the game limited or removed because of some [censored] infantile jerkwads who can't play nice in the sandbox with the other kids.
[/ QUOTE ]
but you see, mobs being removed from MA is just lazyness and heavy handedness on the part of the Devs. Personally i think they are trying to invoke peer pressure on the farmers from the rest of the player base, hoping that all you non-farmers "Police us." I remember back when the family farm was all the rage. the devs didnt think it was cool. instead of completely removing the family as a group from the game, they simply just readjusted the rewards. So they devs haven't always been short sighted and heavy handed. the domineering approach is not necessary at all. they have shown in the past that they know how to handle things in a very consise manner, that benefits all members involved. This time around, they are just trying to prove a point. for instance, the roman healer guys. they completely jerked those without any thought. just take away the xp. that way you leave the surgeons, that what they are called, for flavor. As other mobs arise that dont fit into the formula, dont just jerk them out, adjust. they have shown in the past that they are very capable of this. i dont get all this heavy handed nonsense..... -
FARMING ROCKS......!!!! we need to thread jack every thread and turn it into a farming flamoff so Moderator8 has his clickie finger fall off from all the thread locking he has to do!

ive always wanted to saay this.....THE SUGGESTION FORUM IS THAAAAAAT WAAAAAAAAAAAAY! On a serous note, the devs are way to busy looking for things to nerf to help us with any thing cool like that. they are on a roll. it took them less then a month to nerf the MA back to obscurity!

Well, the pace of "normal" levellling in CoH is a very slow grind, that is why I quit years ago. I came back to check out the mission editor and found that if I wanted to I could level really fast, or I could play cool story missions. I had a choice.
If I have to go back to slow grinding as my only levelling pace I'll take my money elsewhere and Cryptic loses a bit of revenue.
The most common comment I have seen in various forums when people talk about CoH is that the game is fun but the level grind is too steep. It would appear that the pace of levelling is one thing that has driven off a lot of customers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, you hit it right on the head. i had a choice. And like you, i was a week or so away from getting grinded out of my sub. the MA almost saved me, but now i dont know -
that needs changed.....it was a great arc.....
-
hrmm.....thats kind of lame. So once you get hall of fame, it doesnt lock you in? they need to change that.....im kind of sorry i cost Muu his hall of fame status now, they are gonna grief the hell out of him......
-
The Footsteps Initiative by Muu. Allow me to be the first to offer my congratulations, and to thank you for showing all these DOOOOOM sayers, who say that Hall of fame cant be done, that it is possible!!!!!
-
I know.....its just that isnt a very friendly to those of us with blaster/tanker/scrapper/troller lock!
-
ok i know that we dont need this to become city of auto powers. but there are so many neccesarry more then one clickie powers needed, (sr,shield im looking at you). for those of us who want to run our mez protection and hasten at the same time have to be ocd to catch it EVERY time. I dont think it would hurt the game at all if you just added ONE more auto power. It would really smooth a lot of things up

I just wonder if everyone who prefers i12 style pvp over this new pvp, if we all made a petition would castle change it back?. With hard numbers of player base disapproving of the new pvp?
[/ QUOTE ]
Wouldn't achieve anything, pvp'ers would need at least 150x the population to get him to even consider their opinion on the same level as his. And the vast majority would need to speak up then.
[ QUOTE ]
Castle has to be a reasonable man, i just refuse to believe he's this stubborn on purpose.
[/ QUOTE ]
On purpose? no. I believe his ego is so powerful that even when completely wrong it protects him and recreates the history of events (or memories). In this case I believe that he believes i13 pvp is a success and was and is a good idea.
Ok, the fact that Southpark (if you haven't watched the Kanye West episode it is pretty interesting) fits perfectly aside:
Him being reasonable or stubborn has nothing to do with it. For them to admit what a massive mistake it was would be a huge black mark and could become a PR nightmare down the road (if not at the time). It would allow anyone questioning the devs to cite "i13 pvp" as precedent of them having no clue. And they would be right.
On top of that a lot of resources went into the rebuild. Yes any intelligent management team would take steps to ensure it was a good idea, but for w/e reason they took it upon themselves and went full speed ahead with a "we know best" attitude. The results speak for themselves. Hopefully in the future they will be more careful when handing out opportunities to people. Hopefully they will at least use a pvp consultant (doesn't have to be from cox) in the future (if another similar scenario ever arises in any of their careers) rather than putting game mechanic design decisions in the hands of a pve player lol and a pve dev(s). It has been a great example of why a race car driver doesn't automaticallyequate to being a great pilot. Pve =! pvp, so in them assuming pve experts knew what was needed was either ego, shortsightedness, or just plain stupidity acting.
Based on what I've seen of the pve'er(s) and the dev(s) involved in the process I'm confident in stating it was ego at work, which led to stupidity governing decisions and resulted in a package that can never be integrated with pve at all in the future (ie pvp MA missions, omg what a crazy idea!!!), so in other words shortsightedness.
Pulling the plug at this point likely isn't even a distant option. A smart management team would work as hard as possible within the budget and without compromising higher ranking projects to band-aid w/e they can. Which is exactly what they are doing, albiet at the speed of a tortoise.
[ QUOTE ]
When i13 was in closed beta, we pointed out what wasnt really good about it and he just seemed to ignore us. Then that whole debacle with the "things you like positive about i13 pvp" (which was like 3 pages long) And "The things you don't like about i13 pvp" (which was like 100 or so pages long)
[/ QUOTE ]
There is practically no point doing anything other than pointing out bugs to them. Every idea they add it strongly supported by a large dose of "we know best". Of course that is one of the most prominent signs of mismanagement, but what are you going to do?
Those threads were put up for nothing more than a place to vent; let out your anger and get over it rather than internalizing it and probably quitting, and a place to pat them on the back. *If they read either of them it would be the one grovelling at their feet and if by some chance they read through the complaints one it all fell on ears already ringing with "we know best".
The sad thing is that as Arcanaville pointed out to me in a different thread it wasn't just Castle at work. I'm not sure if she said it to reassure me or not, but all it did was make me really sad because instead of one person with no clue, you are dealing with a pile of them. Or they are all just "yes men". Both are depressing.
So imagine first how hard it is to change someone's mind who's ego is so powerful it will completely alter his perceived reality to support his decisions. Pretty hard right?
Now add to that a group of coworkers that are either doing the same thing, or are just patting him on the back saying he is king of the world. Did it get easier or harder to change their mind?
Now add a gaggle of sycophantic pve'ers acting like he/they walk on water and crap out cinnamon fresh rolls saying the pvp changes are great and they will definitely pvp now (though they never did). At this point, inappropriate terrorism jokes aside, you are likely going to need a bomb to affect any change.
An "old rules" arena option is the best to hope for, but even that is unlikely as even that is an admission of error. Right now you can shut of DR for example, but that falls under things like "tactical start" in terms of user options. Allowing a full reversal to i12 probably isn't going to happen.
edit:
tl:dr version:
-everything the devs add is backed by a strong sense of "we know best"
-knowing pve =! knowing pvp and they were idiots to assume it did.
-it's hard to change minds when they don't listen
-hope for an "i12" arena option, but I doubt it will happen.

this whole reply is full of SOOO much win, i don't know where to start. you hit every single nail on the head and hammered them down so far, my head is still spinning! GREAT show! -
The repeat offenders network are putting out some brilliant missions. Do a search for 7662, thats all the missions! be warned though, make sure you have a good pug!
-
because purples tend to be on specific set bonus, so allowing them to cross over builds wouldnt be oped. however allowing all set bonuses to carry over would just be plain stupid. a perma-hastened softcapped wp tanker.......no. Just the purples. It would do a bit to ease the gulf between the haves and the have nots
-
still keeping with the rule of five, allow for purple set bonuses to carry across to both dual builds.....they are hard enough to get as it is. this would help a bit.....
-
My honest wish in all this is for the Devs to step forth and just admit that they were having major problems with the MA, and taking these steps is the only way that they can get it out on time. Something with pets recharge was totally borking the custom mobs, and they couldnt fix it in time. I just dont buy the fact that LS or Sparky or Gun drone were oped. if that was the case, then just affect those powers. they hit all the powers across the board. And why recharge. As many intelligent players have pointed out, if you are having problems with one power not cirulating i.e bruisers always chucking the rock, then just take the rock out. No ladies and gentleman, there is waaaaay more to this then they are saying. It would just make me feel alot better if they didnt treat me like i was ignorant, because i am not.....

Ok i am starting to pvp with my blaster. i have tactics slotted with the perception io, but still cannot see stalkers worth squat. is there still something im missing? my blaster is an arch/fire/ice (yah yah i know, he is a farmer converted to a pvper. I just dont feel like grinding a FOTM to 50. but hey my first round in RV, ive killed more then i got killed).
