Quote:I actually do have characters on every North American server right now. Looking at the schedule again, I might be able to make it to the ones on justice, liberty, infinity, pinnacle, and freedom. Unfortunately, the characters that I care more about are on Guardian, Champion, Virtue, Victory, Triumph, and Protector. And unless I neglect my schoolwork or skip classes, I won't be able to make it to any of them. If it was a larger window of time, I'd probably be able to make a few of them. One more hour tacked onto the end of it and I'd likely be able to at least make it on for the tail end of them. There's no possible way the devs can reasonably make the event so every single person out there can attend. Some people are going to miss out. I may end up being one of them, at least for Virtue. But if you really want to attend, surely you can manage to do so on one of the 11 days it's running on. Roll an alt. No, it's not the same as on your home server...but you'll still get to participate. And alts really aren't that scary...they don't bite.
And if that's not good enough for you? Well, I'm afraid you'll just have to get over it. Sorry, but the devs are only human. When you're talking about a live event, they can't possibly cater to every single last person. -
And what about those of us who really don't care much about the badge and really don't care what happens on Freedom? I don't want to experience the invasion on a character that I rolled up just for the invasion. I want to experience it on my home server, on one of my characters that I have played for years now. But you offer a 3 hour window on a week night for me to be able to do that? Not all of us have 9-5 jobs, some of us have commitments that will prevent us from being able to make it to an event run in the evening. It sounds like it's going to be an awesome event and I want to participate but it looks like I'm going to miss out on it.

Quote:I think this might really be the case.* Now that they have Zwillinger to play buffer between them and an angry fan base, this is more of a stress test of HIM than the servers.
And now to add my gripes about the whole thing. The day when the invasion will be happening on my home server, I will not be able to be at my computer to participate. And I really do not care about what happens on other servers at all. I want to be able to fight off the invasion on my home server. I especially do not want to fight on Freedom. It's the one server I have avoided making characters on (I believe I made one there just to have one). I know a lot of other people that avoid Freedom as well. Really, this whole thing just rubs me the wrong way. -
My favorite is "A Trained Monkey is definitely NOT a bum!"

Quote:That's quite strange, since Microangelo specifically calls it an XP-sized icon. Odd that it wouldn't work. Then again, I'm using Vista.Same here. So it fails on Windows XP but works on Windows 7. Surprising, but not problematic.
Thank you, Johnstone, for the icon. I'll be using this from now on. Finally, a non-jaggy Launcher icon!
And you're welcome, glad to be of service. -
Quote:Microangelo will let you almost do this. Just make a JPG/PNG in whatever image-editing software you want and ctrl-c, then open up Microangelo and make a new icon at 256x256 and ctrl-v, save it as an ICO file.I'm surprised I can't load a JPG straight into an icon, to be honest.
edit: Just loaded up Microangelo to check things out, and when you create a new icon file, you can choose a "fill image". It'll load any image file you have and resize it for use as an icon of the desired resolution. So all you need to do is find a square NCSoft logo and load that up as the fill image and you're good to go. Why haven't I just done this for you already? brb, making icon
edit: Back with icon. Took this image:and loaded it using the feature in Microangelo I just mentioned. So here's the icon. And here's a version without the text, just the logo as the icon.

It'd be nice if we got what they had even. Make it so we're untargetable for a period of time when we rez. Granted, this could cause people to complain that they can't be healed/buffed by allies, so if there's a way to make us only untargetable by enemies, that'd be great.

Quote:If you have pics you want to use as icons. Download a trial of Microangelo. I used to use it all the time to make custom icons and cursors (I still use the cursors I made from sprites ripped from Kirby's Dreamland to this day). Once you get it, it should be pretty self-explanatory if you're familiar with other image-editing software.Unfortunately, the City of Heroes icon is similarly low-res, or I'd use that. I've wanted to make my own icons for some time, but while I can make the actual pics, I've no idea how to package them as icons, so I can only select from existing icons I already have, and I don't have many that are high-res. Not many appropriate ones, anyway.

Jay talked about this during one of the ustream things. Basically, he said that current Carnies are ugly and that they would look ugly if ported to players. So before he would port them, he would have to make them better looking or make the player versions better looking. Aka, sounds like they won't be coming for a long time. He also seemed surprised when the question of Carnie costumes for players arose. I kinda lost hope of ever seeing them show up after hearing it all.

I made a Kin/SR Brute using a similar concept. SR's effects can be passed off as a sort of wind shield/buffer zone around the body (although, I've turned off SR's effects on most of the armors since I just prefer no effects on armors when available). I actually really like Power Siphon on her; if you use it at the start of a fight, it's like a turbo-charged fury to get your damage boost started. The Brute/Scrapper decision is really up to personal preference though. The main reason I went with Brute is because I already have over a dozen Scrappers on my home server and only one or two other Brutes.

Quote:I did the same thing. Although, it was Hopkins in Manticore's TF. And I used a Warwolf, Snowbeast, Amy, and gears (lol they died fast). But it was on my Kin/Sonic Defender, so I was happy about it.Achievement: Soloing an AV for the first time (before IOs!)
(Dis)Achievement: using a Shivan, a Snowbeast, and Amy Johnsosn to do so >_>
Achievement: Duoed Adamastor last night. Me on my Fire/Shield Scrapper, and my friend on his Inv/SS Tanker. No debuffs, just damage. My fire/shield hasn't been updated since before i19 and my frined doesn't use many IO sets at all.
(Dis)Achievement: It was Adamastor and he's weak to fire and lethal (which is all my attacks). We're gonna try other duos and see what other GMs we can take out. -
You can make it use one key by using GATE's bind with an added bindloadfile added onto each.
Save some bind files. AutoPoseOn.txt and AutoPoseOff.txt in your data directory of CoH.
AutoPoseOn.txt:
R "autorun 1$$e flypose 3$$bindloadfile AutoPoseOff.txt"
AutoPoseOff.txt:
R "autorun 0$$bindloadfile AutoPoseOn.txt"
Then, in-game, do /bindloadfile AutoPoseOn.txt
That'll make it so that the first time you hit R, it will turn autorun on, set the flypose and rebind R to do what's in AutoPoseOff.txt. Then, when you hit it again, it will turn off autorun and rebind R to do what's in AutoPoseOn.txt again.
Well, that's how it should work. I haven't tested GATE's binds, but if his binds work, then adding the bindloadfiles onto them will work. This same method can also be used to have rotating chat binds, where you press one key to say something and load another bind, and keep pressing it to go through the rotation. Just have to be sure that the last one will load the first one and it'll all work. In the case of the simple on/off thing, you just have two so they just reference each other. -

I'm with this, but only if I can have a chainsaw hand and a boomstick.

I'd prefer all powers be allowed in Pocket D. The only reason that Teleport powers were originally supressed is due to people using it to teleport people into the dancer's cages and getting them stuck there. If I'm not mistaken, they opened the cages up anyway (I recall seeing people getting in themselves recently). So the original reason is gone.

Quote:I suspect this to be the issue, actually. If there are no low(er) rez versions of these textures then devs really should create them.
I have noticed that if you zoom out and look straight down, the fps doesn't take that bad of a hit and you can still see some stuff around you. Sucks when you're in a hallway with a low ceiling, but the big open rooms that are the biggest culprit have a high enough ceiling that lets you see around you well enough for now. -
Quote:Hi from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.Hello Everybody,
I am a student at the Art Institute of Boston in a class called Interactive Game Design. I am currently doing a report on the archetypes and how ones experience varies greatly between the vast choices of the game. I am attempting to group the archetypes into different roles within a team.
Now correct me if I'm using the wrong terms but this is what I have so far...- Damage Dealer
- Tank
- Healer
- Buff/Debuff
Thank you
MattSP
This is a really tricky question in regards to this game. There's a whole lot of overlap if you distill the archetype listing down to that level; although I actually don't see a need to have Healer as its own if you are going to distill things down that far, healing is just buffing hit points and even the most Healer-ish powersets available here have a strong focus on buffing other aspects as well . It really isn't possible to use that list with this game though...
Blasters, Scrapper, Stalkers, and Brutes are all obviously damage. But Brutes can manage aggro as well, Scrappers can do a decent job of it too (and some Scrappers are actually pretty damn good at it). And then, depending on powers, Defenders, Controllers, Dominators, and Corruptors are all capable of dishing out some serious hurt. Even Tankers are still capable of laying down the pain. And Masterminds too.
Aggro management/control: Obviously Tankers, but then Brutes and Scrappers also can take on this role as mentioned. Masterminds also fill this role. And then Dominators and Controllers for the ability to lock down enemies. And then I've also seen a few Defenders who can tank with the best of them. And every archetype has access to at least a couple status effects, giving them their own form of crowd control.
Buff/Debuff: Defenders are the obvious first choice here. Then you have Controllers and Corruptors who both have access to many of the same (de)buffs as Defenders. And then there's many powersets for other archetypes that have some form of minor (de)buffs. And Masterminds too.
And I haven't even mentioned the Kheldians or Soldiers of Arachnos yet. They pretty much take the whole archetype idea and throw it out the window. Whatever you want to do with it, there's a build possible for it.
The "Holy Trinity" just doesn't exist in this game. Sure, a lot of people build their Blasters to be just damage; a lot of people build their Tankers to be able to take the hardest hits; a lot of people build their Defenders to focus on buffing; but to say that all Blasters are just there for damage, or all Tankers are just there to be meat-shields, or all Defenders are just there to keep everyone else buffed, well, that's taking a lot away from each of them. Each of the 14(16 if you count the separate branches of the SoAs) archetypes here are an archetype; and they each have their own definitions. If you say that Defenders, Corruptors, Controllers, and anyone else who brings significant buffs to a team are all under the category of "Buffs"; it muddles things. They all bring something unique and have different roles. -
Quote:That totally defeats the purpose of modular level design. I'm frankly quite surprised by this. Then again, the more I learn, the more problems I see here that should have never seen the light of day. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game but some of these problems stem from easily correctable issues and it makes me wish they cared more. It bugs me when classmates don't make modular maps correctly; it's even worse when it's professionals. When I've asked the devs about it, they've told me that the tiles from which the maps are built don't fit together cleanly, and require cleanup after they're positioned to make a map.
That said... uh, Devs, can I come fix this type of thing when I'm done with school? Not really what I want to do (environments aren't my favorite thing to make, I like props and characters more), but I do know what I'm doing with them. -
-
Nope. I've made several new characters over the past month or so, and I've typed in the binds for every one of them. I'm the opposite of lazy, as I don't even bindloadfile for them. I'm really just set in my ways. And personally, I like seeing what other people are playing and wish everyone had their AT and level in their binds. Some people do go overboard, including powersets and incarnate status and their cat's maiden name or whatnot, but I like the AT, level and faction info. Gives me an idea of what the people I talk to enjoy playing. Probably wouldn't need it for that purpose if I actually teamed with people on a more regular basis, but it is what it is.
-
I know several people who used to play, or tried the game for a while. The most frequent complaint from all of them: the maps. They don't all have the same complaints, but each of them had some issue with the maps. Some thought the maps weren't realistic/immersive enough. Others felt that they were just all too similar and once you notice the pattern, you know which way to go all the time when you see a particular map. A few have mentioned the idiotic elevator system. And then, of course, there were a few complaints about the blue cave layer-cake room.
Personally, I don't mind the maps too much. It would be nice if it didn't look like the same interior designer furnished every single office building, but none of these issues is a real deal-breaker for me. -
Quote:Deal with it. I'm trying to save people who might be interested from having to do any extra workYes, and because I can click their name in chat, I really wish that people would stop using [$name, $level $archetype] **** in their chat binds. I don't give a damn about your Level or AT, and I can get your character name by clicking your @Global.

Quote:No brute? Any thoughts on them?(And, for what it's worth, having a KM stalker and a scrap both at 50 and a KM tank at 31, I much prefer it as a stalker or tank set. My scrap, Solace, is a little disappointing.)
And now I want to make a Kin/SR Air-powered character. Don't know why I wasn't tempted before, I guess I just didn't think about SR. Already have a martial artist kin/nin Stalker and a magic body-hopping soul dark/kin(kin colored like Psionic attacks) Tanker in the process of leveling up though. Don't know if I could do a third kin melee character, although the concept being entirely different for the three of them would help. Damn my altaholism. -
<qr> Yup. Seen it done. They made a pretty decent Airbender.
