  1. I will fourth the insect idea: a swarm of hornets encircling you to protect you from your foes, a cone of toxic spiders to instill fear and reduce hit, the unusual ability to add a defense exoskeleton to yourself and friends (added defense against lethal, psionic and maybe smashing, but reducing defense against fire and cold), a Hive Mind ability that might increase damage or accuracy in a large radius. Sounds more like a /secondary set which might be fun.

Also love the idea of water and air control sets, and also culture and mythic sets. Zephyr winds which blow on high, lift me now that I may fly!

PS I believe there already is an Earth Control set, did you mean something like Marvel's Sandman's powers? (One of my favorite characters!)
  2. Hi,
I'm finding Illusion/Storm to be a lot of fun on my toon The Crimson Monocle. I do have a couple of recommendations for your build.
I would try to add two plain damage IOs to Blind. You could get one of the slots from the Disorient proc in Spectral Terror, it only has a 2% chance to proc and to me that's just super low, but your mileage may vary.

Since you have stealth from Steamy Mist, I would also recommend getting one of the Stealth IOs (run or jump) and popping it into Sprint for full invisibility, which is sooooo nice. They can be very expensive to buy so just get one using tip missions. It's worth replacing the endurance reduction you have in it, since you probably will be going Cardiac incarnate anyway?

Some players might also recommend procs in Freezing Rain rather than a set but totally up to each person.

Also, some like to put the hold proc in Lightning Storm, since it can hit multiple enemies with each bolt.

Here is my Ill/Storm build for what it's worth. Note I don't have the Stealth IO in this toon since he uses Superior Invis. I tried to get a little bit extra ranged defense, hence the six slots in Phantasm instead of four.

  3. I'd like to second Plant/Storm and also give a shout out for Ill/Storm. Storm is just a fun set, and I find Plant and Ill my two favorite Controller mains. You've already played an Ill, so you know just how awesome Phantom Army is at level 18. With Plants, Seeds of Confusion is also awesome, at level 8.

Storm is great protection and debuffing, Gale keeps stuff away from both of you at the lower levels, Snow Storm is an awesome slow, Ice Storm at 16 is Storm's signature power with fantastic debuffs, and Hurricane at 20 is uber protection. Some teams don't love new Stormies as it has a lot of knockback to learn to control, but since you and your friend will both be squishies, keeping enemies away from both of you is great. He can even jump inside your hurricane with you to get its protection for himself as well!
  4. Bump for three nice guys who never really got a reply on their builds. I'm still fairly new to the game and also recently started a Fire/Traps Corruptor, am at level nine so far and am loving it.

Her name is Helina Handbasket, and she is inspired by a character I loved as a kid, Duella Dent, the Joker's Daughter, and also a wacky funny lady chef on Top Chef. I see her as full of one-liners and torn between good and evil, probably becomming a hero eventually. I plan for her to solo (a lot) and team (some).

I did have a couple of questions:

    1) Does Grant Invisibility work on your Force Field Generator? (So that it doesn't get agro while you are sneaking around with it following.)

    2) Does Luck of the Gambler come in any level lower than fifty? For example, if you do the tip missions starting at twenty and earn two Villain Merits, can you buy a level 20 Luck of the Gambler with them or does no such thing exhist?

    3) I tried to get decent recharge and ranged defense (she likes keeping you at a distance), while most importantly staying true to the character and her powers. Hence, I chose the Leviathan pool, because its the funniest to me, even though Dark or Mace might have been more functional for her.

Do you think the character with what she has now, would also need the shark single target hold? If so, I'd have to give up Grant Invisibilty (if 1 is no) or Maneuvers which loses her some defense, to take it, so factor that in please.

I definitely see this as a ranged toon. If anything escapes your Seeds, you still have Roots (Aoe immobilize), Spoors (aoe sleep) and Carrion Creepers to keep enemies at range. Just don't use roots and spoors together as roots has a dot that will wake sleep. You also have Vines (aoe hold) on a longer cooldown.

For Psi you do need to come in occasionally to refresh Drain Psyche but do it when everything is locked down.

I tried for recharge and ranged defense, and it seems like the more you have of one, the less you can get of the other. This one comes in at 27.8 ranged def (I heard getting to 27 was very helpful), and 148.8 recharge, which gives it perma dom at 80.4 seconds out of 90, and perma Creepers at 113.65 out of 120, but not quite perma Hasten at 129.37 out of 120.
I could get Hasten much closer to 120 but would lose big chunks of ranged defense doing it.

It includes one purple set which I felt was needed to make Rain of Fire near perma (17.72 out of 15), and also the Contageous Confusion proc.

Some like melee powers on Doms as they do slightly more damage than the ranged modifyer, but I prefer to keep my enemies far, far away.

Rich, who doesn't like Green Phoenix's name but likes the feel of it. Jade Phoenix would have been perfect, but was taken. Any suggestions?

  7. I saw your current build had one slot left, I would consider putting that slot in Carrior Creepers, adding the Impeded Swiftness (under slow sets) damage proc.

I would also consider replacing the minus recharge proc in Thorntrops with the same Impeded Swiftness damage proc, giving you two damage procs in both powers.

Depending on how much you love Aim, I would think about changing the base recharge in it to the Rectified Reticle Increased Perception IO. This would increase the time it recharges from 31 seconds to 36 seconds which isn't too bad, but in return you get increased perception which, after having fought an Arachnos Night Widow and her team while blinded, I always try to get. You don't need it often, but when you do, you really do.

I would replace one of the Titanium Coating IOs in Shark Skin (probably the triple) with the Steadfast Protection Resistance/+3% defense IO. Not only does this one IO add 3% more ranged defense, but it adds 3% to all your defenses.

I hope the above thoughts help some.
    Rich

    PS I play on Victory.
  8. Hi, I wanted to throw some ideas out to you on your Plant/Thorns/
Leviathan build. These are just thoughts for you to consider, and are not "the best way" etc.

    1) I don't think you have too much recharge at all. You have permaDom and that's the most important thing. You don't have permaHasten but in my experience it's hard to get that and decent Ranged Def which I see you (like myself) are going far. I've read that getting at least 27% ranged def can be very helpful and I can see you have exceeded that.

    2) A lot of people consider Roots (Plant's AOE Immobilize) to be a very important power to take. It does twice the damage of the other aoe Immobilizes, so most slot it for damage, though slotting for Immobilize (not recommended) can get you a lot of ranged def.

    3) The 'problem' with plant is that all of its powers (except Entangle for Doms) can be situationally very useful. Spirit Tree is nice for those ambush missions where you have wave after wave of enemies appear.
Spore burst's sleep is great to have for Strike Forces/Task Forces against Villains/ Heroes. Neither are considered 'essential' powers though.

    4) I don't know that much about Thornes and I think the power can be skiped but I just love Thorntrops, at your level of recharge you can three stack it. You can also put a couple of dmg procs in it. AOE slows are just nice and usually work on Heroes & Villains also.

I've mentioned up to four powers you 'could' add, so let me give you three you 'could' remove to make room for them.

    5) Do you need both super speed and super jump? Do you need either? Your celerity stealth IO can also fit in Sprint, giving you full invis with your Stealth power, and Ninja Run and Beast Run are both great travel powers.
That would free up two powers. There are also in game jetpacks, etc.

    6) Do you need Tactics? If you are only taking it to get to Vengeance so you can use it as a Luck of the Gambler mule, use Grant Invisibility as the mule instead. That would free up one power.

    7) I know your slotting is super tight, but I would try to get one or two damage IOs into water spout, they up its damage a lot. Also, roots (the aoe immobilize you skipped) has minus knockback in the first twelve seconds of its duration which synergizes wonderfully with water spout.
If you want your enemies thrown all over the place, don't use roots first. If you want them kept rooted so your spout can gind them down with tons of damage, use roots first.

    I hope this was ok,
    Rich
  9. D'oh, I'd almost talked myself into Fire, but had forgotten about the vast amout of -recharge in Psi! Lots of mittigation! Input please.
  10. Im still pretty new to the game, and am enjoying my Plant/Storm/Ice controller Madre Nature very much, but thought I would try a Dominator. I wasn't sure which of the above two to try. Can anyone recommend one over the other?

Gonna refer to them below by their Assault set as that is the difference between the two. Also I definitely want to play the character as a Mostly ranged toon, so avoided pure melee powers. Took Spore Burst for possible task/strike force use.

As far as I can tell:

Fire would kill faster thanks to Embrace of Fire being up over half the time.

Psi would have more damage types in case I ran up against fire resistant foes (What foes in game are fire resistant?)

It seems like it almost comes down to Embrace of Fire vs. Drain Psyche. Drain Psyche draws me to the Psi set as the insane amount of regen it gives you adds a huge safety factor. Down side is it is pbaoe with tiny radius and short duration (though almost perma below)

Here are the two characters, not close to soft capped as was going for recharge for permadom and almost perma Hasten and Creepers. Hoping lack of soft cap is not a huge issue with Seeds of Confusion, etc

  11. After thinking about it for a bit, the power of the 5 I decided not to take is the damage buff one, mostly because of all its negatives. It's PBAOE and you really have to be surrounded by close to ten enemies to make the buff worthwhile, plus, since it only lasts thirty seconds, you have to think about renewing it a lot, and thus have to be surrounded by ten enemies in melee range A LOT. I really want this guy to be more ranged, who might zip in OCCASIONALLY to heal a friend or restore his endurance.

But I am curious about what you guys think. Here is my current build.

  12. Thank you for your help with my question above. I am really starting to enjoy my Demon/Storm MM, even though he's not very high level yet. Your guide (and your icon!) are both wonderful.

Do you take any of the Demon whip powers? I figured the -res made them useful and planned to have both the long range one (Corruption) and the aoe one (Crack Whip). But am open to suggestions.

I also thought taking teleport foe might be fun, but it leaves me no room for (and I doubt I have endurance for anyway) the Tactics power. But at the same time, after having fought a Night Widow on another toon, I would love to boost my perception. I have seen an IO for it but its in a +hit set, and I can't find any powers in Demon/Storm that could fit that. Are there any other perception IOs? I've planned on taking Leviathan for the AOE immobilize that I thought could synergize with Tornado, so no +hit there either.

I was also thinking of starting a second MM, a Robots/Dark (like Dr. Doom)
but I read somewhere that Robotics is messed up? That instead of all their normal attacks they just rush in and melee? Is this true or have the developers fixed it? Are robots enjoyable now or broken? Would a Demon/ Dark be better right now?

Thank you for all your help,
    Rich
  13. PS Profanation: Love the Beatles reference in your character's name!!
  14. Hi guys, thank you for the advice. I forgot to mention how much I love this game, and also how I love that concept of your character trumps everything else. That's certainly not the way it is in WoW.

Quaver: Thank you for the info on the -To Hit component. I didn't originally consider it because Mids doesn't have an amount listed for it, so I figured it might be low and not worth enhancing like Twilight Grasp's. I just went to City of Data and it is 15% so IOed makes it equal to Darkest Night.

Camifax: I also added that Range to Fearsome Stare. I took a look at the Dark APP pool as you recommended, and I really do love it. In fact, I desperately want all 5 powers! Which do I NOT take:

Oppressive Gloom: A stun that you don't have to activate for any minion that gets near you (think War Wolves and Strongmen that can't be slowed) and that also synergizes with Howling Twilight for bosses. The damage to you can be healed away by your Twilight Grasp. Any power I can leave on for low endurance and don't have to click on is a plus for me as my reaction times aren't always the fastest. Minus: Doesn't work on Lts. by itself.

Dark Consumption: Completely restore your endurance bar every 111 seconds. An endurance restore is an awesome thing. Minus: It's PBAOE

Dark Embrace: A resistance shield for Smashing, Lethal, Neg and Toxic, that's better than the shark one. Gotta take it, right? Minus: None

Soul Drain: Almost perma damage buff!!! Minus: PBAOE again, and you need a good number of enemies to get a high damage buff.

Soul Transfer: A Self-rez thats up every two mins+ and does a Mag 30 stun! Is that enough to stun Heroes and ArchVillains? After a team wipe you could self rez, stun your enemies as you do, and rez your team with Howling Twilight!! Minus: None.

Which power are you guys not taking?

Profanation: I would love to have better defense but I just can't seem to make it happen with all the other stuff I want for the toon. The Def shield would be nice, but like you, I didn't see anything else in that set I wanted, and now that I've looked at Dark, where I want all five, I can't not take it.
Hopefully all the other tricks I have in the sets will be enough.
  15. Hi,
I'm new to Corruptors, and still pretty new to the game, I joined CoH this past Halloween. I created a Sonic/Storm corruptor, Rhapsody Blue, and got her to level ten this past weekend, but I think I am going to go with a Fire/Dark I just created named Hellspite instead. Both Fire and Dark sets are new to me, so thoughts on this build I created with Mids would be appreciated.

I tried to be true to each power, while still going for set bonuses for recharge and recovery. Lastly, I "threw away" a few slots (like two in the first power and one in the nuke, etc.) to get a bit more defense. It's by no means capped but every little bit helps I would think.

I took the Shark pool for the following:
1)Another aoe dmg power (with aoe immobilize) to chain with my fire AOEs.
2)Some S/L resistance to help my ranged defense
3)A boss pet, I read somewhere "always take the pet"
4)An emergency panic button in Hibernate, to make up for non maxed def

  16. Sorry, forgot a couple things. I usually do tip missions w/o bossus.

I didn't put the -res debuff proc in rain as sonic already has so much of it, I figured there was a cap somewhere. If you guys do recommed it, which IO should I drop for it?

Would it be better to get O2 for possible teaming at 14 (PosiTF) and push Hasten back to 22?

I looked at /Cold and it seems more team oriented than solo? (You can't cast either shield on yourself?)

I didn't take Thunderclap because it's mag 2. Good decision? Bad decision?

Thank you for your time and help with this semi nube.
  17. Hi, Totally new to Corruptors, and still fairly new to the game itself, but I love it! /Cold seems to be the 'best' of the three you listed. But could you guys do a pros/cons on /Storm?

My very first toon was a sonic blaster, but I really didn't like any of the secondaries, which all seemed melee-centric, not my concept at all.

But now I've discovered Corruptors, and the idea of a Sonic/Storm apppeals to me. Would Sonic/Cold be better? I'm gonna post a Mids build I made. It's biggest liability would probably be a lack of ranged def, but would Storm's tricks (Hurricane, Freezing Rain, Snowstorm, KB galore) be enough to deal with that issue?

This chr would solo a lot (Siren Song) but I took O2 to buff/heal teams.
I tried to be 'true' to the powers while also getting set bonuses for recharge, recovery, dmg and accuracy.

  18. I thank you both for your wonderful and detailed answers. I'm sorry your server crashed. I appreciate the time you both have taken, as I love this game. I created so many super heroes as a kid, and now I can create new ones and bring them to life.

The consensus seems to be to go for four slots in Hurricane, but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to do that yet. But if the dmg proc in snowstorm disappoints or I start getting purple sets that start getting me closer to permaPA, then that one second will mean a lot more.

Note that I do have knockback protection in Superior Invisibility. Do you guys think a second one is needed? (Giving a total of 8 KB protection. I've heard there are even enemies that do 9 KB mag in the game. How common are enemies that do KB higher than 4 mag?)

My three mains I've played so far in this game are Scarlet Sorcerer (Ill/Rad), Madre Nature (Plant/Storm) and Crimson Monocle (Ill/Storm). I've already picked Fire APP (per Local) for my Ill/Rad (who is my highest at 40) and Ice APP for Madre Nature (her AOE immob. seems to synergize with it) so I wanted a different play experience from those two with my Ill/Storm.

So I picked Leviathan for Crimson Monocle, also because he is just a bit shady LOL (I know this won't mean anything to most reading but he is Adam Carrington to Scarlet Sorcerer's Stephen Carrington LOL) He is the decadent but sometimes noble older brother of the ernest young Scarlet Sorcerer.

By the way, I got my first purple receipe the other night while Madre was sidekicked to a level 50! I am all excited about it because I didn't realize it til I went to the AH (aka Consignment House) to sell today. It sold for 380 million, woot!!! She barely had enough inf to post it for sale LOL

By the way, I think they made too many sets 6.25 recharge! I could probably break a 'Rule of 10' on some toons with that!

On my Plant/Storm, who is by no means defense capped, would you guys take Ice Armor or Hibernate if it came down to a choice between the two?
I've been leaning toward Armor as it gives her almost 20% defense plus lets me put a LOTG in there! But I just saw where you said Hibernate is really good Local. Is it good enough to lose the 7.5% LotG recharge? (Creepers is at 124 right now, almost perma, since she already dropped one LotG mule to take O2. Dropping Armor would drop it to 127.)

On Crimson Monocle, would you recommend Hibernate or Shark Skin?

I decided to go ahead and try to get the Purple Set for Crimson's Deceive, as that would give ten percent recharge, and to go ahead and spend the other slot in Hurricane, for five more. (If it's one of the cheaper sets, maybe that 380 mill will pay for most of it!) That fifteen percent lowered him from 68.76 to 65.92, almost 3 seconds. I seem to remember that your (Local) guild said 62 or 63 was close enough to be perma? So still not there, but closer.

Here is the updated Crimson Monocle so far:

  19. Hi Draggynn,

My Wow roots are showing with the talent tree talk LOL I spent over two years as a guild leader there, but was constantly having to reconcile the crazy kids who played with the paramilitary raider types. Thankfully I've found few of either in COH, just a lot of normal nice folk.

Thank you for the great feedback, I decided to tweak my build just a bit after reading your comments. I removed the res debuff from both tornado and water spout, which enabled me to rework water spout to get more global accuracy, bringing my Hurricane up from 93% accur. to 101%.

That still leaves me with one free slot to fill and I wanted to ask your opinion on best choice.

    1) Since my PA are right now at 68 secs, would it be worth it to put the Force Feedback proc in either Hurricane or Gale? I don't use either a lot. Hurricane I use mostly when I think I might be in danger (it's great), Gale I used to use for the same reason. How many seconds would one proc of FF take off that 68? Is Hurricane or Gale the place for my extra slot?

    2) Adding a dmg/endur IO to Spectral Wounds would take me from yellow ED to red ED and add about seven dmg to each use. Is that the place for the extra slot?

    3) I could add a heal/endur IO to O2 boost. Doesn't seem to be a game changing use of the slot, as I already have green ED with two slots.

    4) I could add a fourth slot to Hurricane and change sets to get 5% recharge, but that would only take Phantom Army down one second to 67 and I would have to take some IOs that do nothing and that I don't want (which I Hate doing), and I would lose the 2% dmg bonus. It's not that the dmg bonus is that great, it's being forced to use an extra slot that I neither want or need that reminds me of having to take talents I didn't want or need in Wow to get to the 'good' ones. And all that for only one second off PA. For two or three, maybe.

    5) I could add the plus 3 defense IO to Steamy Mist (would that only work when SM is on? It can't be used with Superior Invisibility which I prefer.)

    6) I could add a recharge IO to tornado which would drop it about three seconds. I try to avoid using recharge IOs (other than on PA) unless they give me at least six seconds off the time. Converting one of the procs on Ice Storm to recharge would also give me three seconds, and a second proc converted would only give one additional second. That's why I didn't them on those powers. A Defense Debuff/Endurance/Recharge might be more palatable here as I feel it's more bang for the slot buck.

    7) A sixth slot for Bile Spray such as either of the triples from Detonation. Would only add three points to damage but would increase range of the cone (thus greatly increasing size) or accuracy.

I'm not in love with any of these, do any of them seem way better than the others to you?

Looking forward to Tornado and Thunderstorm in your guide, it's an awesome guild for anyone seeking Storm info!

    Rich
  20. PS Snowstorm saved this guy's life in the past, as a really evil Arachnos chased me around and around a column in super slow motion while Crimson fiddled with his monocle trying to get him PA up again lol
  21. Here's what I think I will be doing with my Ill/Storm, not sure yet but it might give you some thoughts. I've gone fire with my Ill/Rad and ice with my plant/storm, so I thought I would try Leviathan on Crimson Monocle.

I took every talent in both trees (some as mules for Luck of the Gambler IOs) except for Thunderclap. It seems a so-so talent with its level two stun (minions only) and yet probably would take five slots, which I couldn't really spare.

I did end up deciding to take O2, as I did feel kind of bad when teams expected me to have it with a stormie. If I had one more slot in the build, I would have slotted it with a Heal/Endur IO.

I only used three purple IOs as I don't have a ton of cash yet. It's very hard to get near permaPA without the purple sets or /Rad. This toon is at 68 seconds. Hopefully close enough with everything else it's got going for it.

Local man, what are your thoughts on puting the chance for res debuff proc in Tornado and Water Spout? Helpful, or two wasted slots that could be used elsewhere?

Leviathan gives you an AOE, a second tornado!, another pet that's almost perma, and a nice res based shield.

Things it lacks are an aoe immobilize with -kb, and a third single target attack (though I'm hoping that with the recharge, Blind, SW, Blind, SW... could almost be its own attack chain.)

It also lacks a -regen. power, but I don't think any pool contains one of those sadly.

On the plus side, while soloing, things should be flying all over the place and not attacking you

There's some extra ranged defense, but no where near softcap, I took what I could get but tried to really remain true to the powers. Hopefully the res shield will help.

Hope this at least gives you some ideas.

  22. Scin, Do you use Hibernate that much? If not, why not take the pet instead, it's yet another source of quite a bit of damage, and if you have Perma PA, then the new pet would be Perma too, or close enough.

With PermaPA recharge, wouldn't Blind, SW, Blind, SW... almost be an attack chain by itself (with the right slotting)?
  23. Your guild helped me change my build to include the two five percent and two ten percent defense/resist IOs, but I'm still a bit confused about the preset commands and Bodyguard Mode.

You stated the three preset commands (Attack, Follow and Heel) put your pet in agressive, agressive and passive modes respectively. So there's no preset that puts your pet in Defensive/Bodyguard mode? I had been playing Follow like that was the defensive/bodyguard preset. First, it's crazy that they wouldn't give us one.

Second, how do I make a snazzy button like the ones in my powers bar for Attack, Follow and Heel, but for Defensive/Follow (I'll call it Defend for this example). That way I could press the colorful Defend button in my power tray and all my pets would enter defensive/follow me/Bodyguard mode.
  24. Bump, because I also just started a Demon/Storm build and I am totally new to MM and still pretty new to the game, having started last Halloween. Here is the build I came up with for my first MM.

    1) I tried to maximize each power that I took, while also using sets that gave me bonuses that could help me.

    2) I am by no means soft capped on defense, but I think the combination of resistance and decent defense (esp. ranged) would make my toon, Hellspine, ok?

    3) I avoided any purple IOs as being a new player I wouldn't be able to afford them, the expensive orange IOs I am doing tip missions like crazy to get.

    4) Thunderclap seems to be about the weakest power I took?, but I've mostly played controllers up to this point, and that seems to offer some controll. Is there something out there that's better for a MM? The disorient might even stack with Tornado's.

    5) The build appears like it will be extremely endurance heavy despite my best efforts, so I'm guessing the new Endurance alpha would be a must?

  25. Hi, I'm not an expert by any means but I thought I would reply since no one else has. I think you actually do have permadom right now, but just don't realize it. What you have to do on Mids is tick the little circle on the right side of your Hasten power, so it lights up green. This shows the effect of Hasten on the recharge of all your powers.

Without it being ticked, as in the link you sent, your Dom recharge is 111.89, but with the green circle ticked 'on', showing your recharge with Hasten now factored in, your Dom recharge is now at 80.4, well below the 90 second recharge of Dom.

The spirit alpha might still be good for you to get perma Hasten, or you may want another one to help with Damage or Endurance.
