Fire/Traps Build Help
Im in the same boat as you, myself. This is the build Ive been playing around with as a pure natural/technology based corruptor, that is to say no travel powers other then Ninja Run/sprint/combat jumping.
I did not take Time Bomb since the general consensuses is its a wasted power, and I did not take Blazing bolt since I plan on fighting up close.
So any comments from more experienced corrupters would be greatly appreciated, Im sure by both myself and the OP.

Here's another version for you to consider; I built this using Frosticus' AV soloing build, and turned it into something that was more geared to general PvE. Mine is 41 now, and I plan on testing it on AVs to see how it does.
This build softcaps s/l/e/n and ranged (with some buffer), and is a small purp away from softcapping psi/c/f/melee/ranged. My only concern is the end use, we'll see what that's like when I get there.
Some of the powers are misplaced in level, namely, Fire Breath and Rain of Fire. I would place those a lot earlier on a live build.

Any one of half a dozen alts!
Bump for three nice guys who never really got a reply on their builds. I'm still fairly new to the game and also recently started a Fire/Traps Corruptor, am at level nine so far and am loving it.
Her name is Helina Handbasket, and she is inspired by a character I loved as a kid, Duella Dent, the Joker's Daughter, and also a wacky funny lady chef on Top Chef. I see her as full of one-liners and torn between good and evil, probably becomming a hero eventually. I plan for her to solo (a lot) and team (some).
I did have a couple of questions:
1) Does Grant Invisibility work on your Force Field Generator? (So that it doesn't get agro while you are sneaking around with it following.)
2) Does Luck of the Gambler come in any level lower than fifty? For example, if you do the tip missions starting at twenty and earn two Villain Merits, can you buy a level 20 Luck of the Gambler with them or does no such thing exhist?
3) I tried to get decent recharge and ranged defense (she likes keeping you at a distance), while most importantly staying true to the character and her powers. Hence, I chose the Leviathan pool, because its the funniest to me, even though Dark or Mace might have been more functional for her.
Do you think the character with what she has now, would also need the shark single target hold? If so, I'd have to give up Grant Invisibilty (if 1 is no) or Maneuvers which loses her some defense, to take it, so factor that in please.

Yes, you can GI your pets, but AoEs still hit them. However, the FFG and/or Seekers taking fire is not always a bad thing, you can drop another anytime you want. In fact, the best use of Seekers should be taking fire, summon them right in the middle of your next group of targets.
Yes, LotG comes in other levels. You can use Regular TF-Merits to buy them at any level 25 to 50. They cost 200 TF-Merits each. I've never bought one with A-Merits, so I don't know if A-Merits offer the same flexibility.
I suck wind constantly, so I went with Power Sink. Cardiac Alpha would be another solution to the endurance burn. Scorpion Shield Can make a nice difference if you want typed defenses, or mixed typed/vector, or 60+ incarnate defenses.
I like to seal up my defenses as tightly as possible, I'd almost never drop my defenses below softcap if there was an alternative. 40 defense will halve your durability vs 45 defense. I had GI many issues ago, but no longer do, I just resummon my FFGs as needed. It's not really a question I can answer for you, each person has to pick their own preferences.
With softcap defenses holds are not needed, but can be useful. An Immobilize is nice for AVs, and a -Fly is nice for those annoying fliers when soloing. It's all just preference.
Fire Tramp Revamp 3a i19 - Abysmal recharge, solid defense, but no where near as solid as either of her defender sisters (Traps/Ice Traps/Dark B Traps/Dark A).

It costs two hero merits for the LotG, so you can get a new one in just 4 days of tip missions. On all my toons that is WAY faster than it would take me to get 200 merits.
I agree that softcapped defense is spectacular. I have gotten so used to it on my level 50 brute that now I am spoiled and my L34 fire/traps corrupter feels squishy to me when objectively he is very durable. I find myself saying things like "I know that the mission is set to +0 / X8, but the character just doesn't feel SUPER yet."
Jim,
Helina has turned 12 and gotten the acid morter, though she hasn't used it much yet since her caltrops/pull/rain of fire still seems to be working really well. I keep thinking I should have gotten Triage Beacon instead as I know that can be situationally useful, and gotten morter at 22.
At her level, should she be running at higher than +0/+1 that you start out at?
Also, do you do AE missions? I'm still somewhat new so I've only ever done regular content but I hear the AE tickets can be nice to have, and was wondering if you had any missions or farms you could recommend until I get to 20 and can do tip missions?

Regarding the low level LotGs, rather than spend 200 reward merits on one, I suggest spending 100 reward merits plus 40M Inf on two alignment merits, buying a lvl 25 LotG at the alignment merit vendor to craft and sell, sell it for ~200M Inf (with a day or two of patience, post around 191M Inf not 200M), use your other 100 RMs to do the same with another LotG to use, and get your LotG plus netting about 100M Inf for the same 200 reward merits.
Regarding difficulty level you should run at, that depends hugely on the player, the mobs you are facing, the powers you picked, how you slotted them, etc. But for an AoE focused squishy, consider trying -1/x3 or -1/x4 and see how it goes, you want lots of weak foes. Scale up or down as needed.
I agree, lots of low-level foes is the way to go since you have excellent AoE powers. I was in Praetoria until level 20 just doing regular missions so I can't comment on good farms.
The one trick I can give you is that once I had both the Acid Mortar and Force Field generator I pumped the difficulty all the way up to -1 / X 8 for a few missions that had lots of critters right at the start of the mission. I would eat three purples, fight one large group, eat three more, fight another, and then reset the mission. It was a little boring, but it let me gain large amounts of XP very quickly. And since you kill lots of baddies a lot of inspirations come rolling in.
If you are in Praetoria there was one mission in particular that was really useful—you start with a group of ghouls as allies. Sorry I don’t recall the mission or contact name offhand and I can’t look it up right now, but it should be easy to find the specific mission at the paragon wiki. For that one mission I actually bumped the difficulty to +1 / X 8 because the ghoul’s level is raised as well. The only trick is the ghouls run all over the place and it’s difficult to keep up. There was one boss ghoul that I usually followed around and kept alive for as long as I could, and when he died I would reset. It was a “high-risk high-gain” kind of situation but pretty fun.
This technique should work with any mission where you start out with allies.
This might seem like a dumb question but I'm still kinda new at this: The only way I know to reset the levels you fight at is to leave the mission, go see a Field Analyst or Fortunata sometimes a mile away, then head back to the mission.
Is there a different way, maybe one you can do anywhere anytime, to reset the difficulty?
I wish you could set up two difficulties, one for soloing and one for teaming, or can you and I just don't know how?
Thank you for your help, can't wait to get Hasten at 14 and Force Field Generator at 16.
Rich
The only way to reset the mission difficulty is to visit the Field Analyst or Fortunata. In case you didnt know you can simply buy a jetpack for a low cost at the market which makes getting around a lot easier. If you are hurting for cash just spend 20 minutes in the MA and get enough tickets to buy whatever rare salvage is selling for a high price that daythat will be more than enough for the pack with plenty left over.
Generally speaking I leave the difficulty set for my solo preferences. I *think* that when teaming the system only uses the first of the two variables. For example, if you are set to (-1 / X 2) then the system uses the -1 but ignores the X 2. Instead is takes into account the actual number of people on your team.
or just buy the raptor back for 10,000 influence in G-Ville or the Shadow Shard. It lasts longer and likely costs less than the crafted version.
I'm in the process of leveling a Fire/Traps Corr, and I have to say I'm really enjoying him so far. I've been looking for builds but I can't seem to find many, though my search-fu is indeed weak. I found an AR/Traps build and tweaked it and came up with the build below.
I've never played a Traps Corruptor before so I don't know if I'm slotting effectively, so let me know if you would change anything. Also, I'm soft-capped to all positions as of this build, so that'd be nice to keep; as well as about 72% recharge bonus without hasten.
One last thing; I plan on going hero side with him after I leave Praetoria so not having Patron powers would be ideal.
Thanks for your time.
