Looking for ideas to run with my friend's dom

My friend and I want to make a controller-dominator team. He went with electric control (I'm not sure on his secondary, might be electric). I've only made 1 controller, an ill/rad. Kin is one of my favorite power set but I've made quite a few Kin builds so I would like to make something different. Other than the 1 controller I made, I'm really a pretty massive noob when it comes to the AT.

Clearly we need something that has enough holds to keep the two of us safe, we're kinda squishy. Would we be better off with us both being doms for the added damage? Or is there something I can go with that has the damage output necessary in the controller AT?

Thanks

You have a lot of options. Mind, Illusion and Gravity all have decent single target damage, and Fire and Plant have AoE damage. It seems to me that a Plant/Storm might fit the bill. Plant has decent AoE damage, and then Storm adds more in higher levels. Another interesting choice might be either Ill/TA or Plant/TA. Or you could go with Fire/Rad, if you want some team healing and a buff. Or Ill/Cold, but that is pretty late blooming.

Although it is lacking in damage, stacking an Elec Dom with an Elec controller provides amazing endurance drain.

I'd like to second Plant/Storm and also give a shout out for Ill/Storm. Storm is just a fun set, and I find Plant and Ill my two favorite Controller mains. You've already played an Ill, so you know just how awesome Phantom Army is at level 18. With Plants, Seeds of Confusion is also awesome, at level 8.

Storm is great protection and debuffing, Gale keeps stuff away from both of you at the lower levels, Snow Storm is an awesome slow, Ice Storm at 16 is Storm's signature power with fantastic debuffs, and Hurricane at 20 is uber protection. Some teams don't love new Stormies as it has a lot of knockback to learn to control, but since you and your friend will both be squishies, keeping enemies away from both of you is great. He can even jump inside your hurricane with you to get its protection for himself as well!

Something that has KB might not play as well with Elec compared to other sets due to things being KBed out of the PBAoE aura. Since Elec is lower damage(yes, I know they are a dom) you might want to go something that is more higher in terms of damage. I was raking my brain and nothing was coming up, but I think a Mind/ta would be sick with Elec. Mass Hyp, debuff, debuff, debuff, dom runs in and goes to town on the mob. End drain added to /ta's debuffs and that much control and mobs will be rendered useless.

Almost anything could work.

/Empathy, /Kinetics, and /Radiation all have +Recharge that may boost your friend up to perma-dom levels if he doesn't have sufficient recharge (and he won't until around level 50 barring an extremely unusual early dedication to IOing).

If you've ever wanted an excuse to play an Ice Controller, this may be the time to do it. Your friends electric cages will set a up Containment that won't stop knockdown in Ice Slick. Ice/Kinetics would boost your damage up a lot. Ice/Rad is a walking cloud of mezzes.

But any of the Control sets works. Gravity is the only one I'm iffy about, but its not so bad as to be unplayable.

Thanks a lot for all the ideas. I'm really liking the idea of trying /TA. For far too long I've stayed away from TA because it has such a bad reputation (or has had, I haven't read much about it for a while). Mind/TA does seem like it might be a fun combo.

I have an Illusion/TA at 50. In my opinion, Illusion is the best primary for TA . . . even if TA isn't the best secondary for Illusion. Phantom Army let you stay back and fire your debuff arrows at your leisure. TA has fairly high -Resistance (30% from the combination of Dispersion Arrow and Acid Arrow), which help PA do more damage. And if you are not at Perma PA, Oil Slick Arrow (with Fireball to light it from the APP) is great to fill the gap while waiting for PA to recharge.\

Whatever your primary, make sure you choose either Magic or Tech as your Origin . . . those origin powers will light the Oil Slick. Otherwise, you will have to wait until the APP powers to light it, or rely upon a teammate or get lucky and have Phanty target it.

Even if you are going /TA I'd vote taking Elec/ to match your friend. Between two sets of Conductive Aura, Chain Fences, Static Field and Gremlins there will be no group that can you since they will never have any endurance. Elec/ may be damage light but the amount of tools you get makes up for it. Paired with /TA that'd be quite the swiss army knife IMO. Even though the Gremlins will wake up everything in a Static Field patch it is still can either be a good area denial patch or used offensively to sap a groups end quicker.

Hmm now I'm going to have to make ANOTHER Elec/ troller to test that out.

Mind lets you sit back and fire at your leisure as well. If they are teamed with a Elec dom, the dom is doing energy damage so they can light Oil Slick as well. I really do need to make that Tsoo based Mind/ta someday.

The biggest issue with the combo is Elec plays better in melee and /ta doesn't. With two control sets it likely won't matter.

I'm currently leveling up an ele/rad and one of my sgmates is running an ele/mental dom. Mobs stay pretty much mezzed and drained at all times. It's pretty fun to see what multiple electrics can do. ele/rad has an advantage of running choking cloud and having condusive aura take care of its heavy end requirements, plus its another layer of crowd control while you're in melee.

How does /TA play better at range? It doesn't have any cones so you can easily get right in there and debuff with your arrows. With Static Field, Flash Arrow and if you slot IO's Synaptic Overload will be up every spawn allowing you to get right in there and get a chance to unload first. With that much safety men without hats just might hunt you down for copyright infringement. Barring a /Sonic with Sonic Repulsion, a /FF with Repulsion Field or even a /Storm with Hurricane on is there any controller secondary that you would consider that plays better ranged than melee?

I love that. Two friends and I leveled some electric powered toons together and that was a blast since everything never had any end. We 3-manned the majority of the hero tfs for the heck of it.
