Quote:Good to see all the good stories.Adding my own anecdote!
You know how sewer teams used to be a very delicate balance? At such low levels you'd have to wait on a controller or empath or kin in order to spam heals so that those darn Vazh's didn't kill you dead right away? Every once in a while a nice 50 would tag along and heal you and rez you.
Yesterday when trying to put together a sewer team there were no lowbie defenders or controllers. So I happily opened the team search window and sent tells to the higher levels asking them to please exemp down for a short while and join our sewer team. They'd still get XP and we'd get easy heals.
You know? I got a few yeses and none of these were my griends. Just another way i16 wins.
But your positive reaction to a lvl 50 helping out in the sewers is adding confusion to my brain. Just last week I saw someone complaining on these boards about that very thing. It was a "leave us alone! We don't need your high and mighty help!".
I regularly go on "buff patrol" to help out in pre-14 areas but had been worried I was just p*ssing people off. I guess you just can't please everyone and will make someone mad no matter what you do. -
Quote:Thanks. That makes sense. I remember that it used to load quickly before I was able to afford all the "amenities".Yes. Complex bases take longer to load. Our main base is beautiful and packed with stuff. Our alt base has all teleporters, med-bay, workshop and less than 60 decorative items in the entire base, which is only 8x12. It loads fast.
-
Ok...my ridiculous luck continues. Another purple drop last night. That's 4 this week. And I'm not logging insane hours. If it's a bug I'm going to report it....at some point in the future.
-
I guess I'm one of the ones that "gave up".
I really stopped adding stuff to my base because it takes forever to load now (I'm assuming the more things you stack the longer it takes to load? It used to load way faster before I expanded.). I would like to see ways to make walls and floors. -
Ahh! Memory refreshed! Thanks guys!
edit: Although I did the Kings Row Safeguard yesterday and it popped up after 3 missions. So the change may happen after that. -
Quote:Interesting. I've gotten way more purples than normal myself this week. (3 with just regular play) I saw another post claiming "good luck" with purples around here somewhere too.Oddly, I've gotten more purples while testing the i16 drop bug than since i14 went live. All put up for sale.
I've got 14(?)...15(?) 50s and about only 30 purples among them. Even at today's prices, I could afford several sets across 3 servers, but I don't find them incredibly necessary.
It's got me thinking...if the Devs are okay with the purple proliferation that's sure to come (once the recipe bug fix goes live) then how much are they dialing up the critter (optional?) difficulty in COX:GR?
Is there a bug that is giving out more purples than normal? -
Quote:We don't have a lot of information to go on. I guess that means we have to assume things.I don't really think the devs want a specific level of rarity. They're happy with a fairly broad range. If the drop rate was still OK for them at the height of AE farming, and is still OK now that players have moved out of AE and back to regular content, then the either their acceptable range is very broad indeed, or they simply don't watch it/don't care.
The current drop rates were set when Purples were introduced, and haven't changed. I'm making an assumption that the devs can check and see how many are in circulation/slotted on characters, and if they have done so, then they must be OK with the drop rate overall.
I assume "ultra rare" doesn't cover the range from ultra rare to non existent (redside). Surely there must be a limit that the Devs would consider "too rare". I've seen it implied on this board that no level of rarity would be too rare. There is a difference between 1/1,000,000 and 1/1,000,000,000.
And you're right about the AE era. The level of rarity took a giant leap. That could indicate they don't have a problem with it, don't care, didn't know, or were too busy to worry about it. I tend to lean toward the latter. What happened with AE had to occupy a lot of their thoughts. (Disappointment probably)
-
That's the main point to me.
Apparently I'm not going to get tired of this game. (Who knew?) At some point, the game in its current form won't exist. I understand completely that it's more fun to team with other people and I prefer that....as long as it lasts.
The question is, "what about later?". I'm definitely interested in "better than nothing". -
I've been going back and getting the Safeguard badges on one of my high level characters and ran into a brick wall with the Steel Canyon one. I was using a lvl 24 alt to run radios in Talos but the Safeguard is not popping up after 3 missions.
Is the alt too high? (Paragonwiki says the Steel Canyon Safeguard is 20-25) Wrong zone? I'm missing something here... -
I agree with all and only have minor disagreement with this:
Quote:What the Devs want/do changes. And player input is one of the factors that can change what the Devs want/do. The recent reaction about the drop rate problem is a great example. Wasn't it true that the Devs saw no problem until the players complained...err....added input?MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Devs set the drop rate. There is absolutely nothing that we as players can do about that.
And if there is a specific level of rarity the Devs have in mind for purples then AE made the number lower than what they had in mind. (Because they set the drop rate before AE) I don't think their idea is "no rarity is too much". So a player who complained about purple rarity during recent times had a point.
And we've made the mistake many times of assuming because the Devs hold an opinion once, that means it never changes in the future.
I say all this as a player who has exactly the number of purples I want and have no complaints. (Somehow I've gotten 3 purple drops just this week) -
I've had a weird week.
Very very few recipie drops...
...but 3 purple recipies were included in that low number. That takes the edge off my complaint. -
I noticed this same bug a couple of days ago on a TF. The O-portal would not work for me and few others, but would work for others on the team. We managed by having those with working portals drop them for the entire team.

I'll add to the praise. (Nice job OP)
This is the best online game I've ever played....
...well ok...this is the only online game I've ever played. But this game has to get points for being the reason I've never tried any other games. I've spent enough time peering over my brother's shoulder while he played other games (including one well known fantasy game in particular) to know this is the one for me.
They (the devs) continue to surprise me. Goodies keep coming our way that were "never going to happen". Remember when customizing powers was "just not possible"? (according to posters here) It's almost worth hanging around just to see what they come up with next.
We are lucky players we are. Threads like this should litter the board and duplicates should be tolerated. (No "Use the search functioni you noob!")
edit: Thanks for the work on the east coast server issue -
Quote:I think I'm going to make one of each now and see what happens. I've never tried SR either so that could be a way to test drive that one too. So hard to know "what I like" before I try something. I am in possession of "righteous bucks" but I rarely do more than Frankenslot. I've really only got one character that is "tweeked out" with purples and sets galore.Cant decide? Go for the gusto and make the BS/inv and make a Kat/SR or Kat/elec and slot plus dmg on the BS and +rech on the Kat.
Thanks for the replies all. -
Quote:Sold! If your secondary was more click-intensive I'd go with Katana, since the faster animations won't get you killed before you can click that crucial self heal to survive (ahem, regin). But since you're set on invuln I'd go with Broadsword, you'll be one-shotting minions left and right.
(thanks) -
After all this time, I decided I wanted to make a Scrapper with a sword. These two sets look a lot alike from the descriptions. With the difference being BS more damage/Kat faster.
I guess I'm looking for opinions on the "flavor" of them. I do like moving fast, but either seems to have enough attacks to keep you busy.
I decided to go Inv for the secondary since I liked it so much with my Tanker. Seems like you can stack up some good defense with both primaries too. -
Quote:Yer awesome Harry. Great story.I was playing a new Spines Scrapper yesterday, (Yay! I actually want to play one now!) and was running to a mission back in the corner of Atlas by the Perez Park Entrance. Seeing a large group of hellions just begging for a Pounding/Poking, I went to say hello and don't do that. I realized right away that my level 5 was not quite prepared for such a large group but stuck with it thinking that, worst case scenario, A free trip closer to to Atlas via the hosp.
Then it happened...
A character came from behind, and used hurricane to blow some of the riff-raff off of me, buying me the time I needed to recover. The extra aggro he earned caused them to drop, but I slipped em a wakie. They stated in local that they were sorry that they were not any help, to which I replied that he was more help than he knew, and if it were not for him I would have been taking the fast train to morphene town. Instinctively, I checked badges... One exploration badge, nothing else. He asked me if I could help him fight some "Robots", I said sure, and he ran off towards the corner. I asked him to team with me, and he complied. I saw that he, as I suspected, was hunting clockwork. I helped him to tackle his remaining hunt, and mentioned that he seemed new and if he required any assistance. He told me that he was on a trial account, and had just began to play. He did not know anything outside of the four levels he had earned.
He jumped into a group of purples, and died, so I followed him to the pavement. He asked "Now what?" I told him to go to the hospital. At the hospital, he couldn't figure out how to get out of the infirmary, so I directed him to the lobby, and back to the street. He asked me if I wanted any enhancements since he didn't have room, I told him to sell them. He indicated that he did not know you could do that, and where it was. I showed him the hero corps venders and told him that he could find one in almost every zone. I spent an hour showing him the basics, and inquired if he needed any other assistance. he replied no, and I quit the team.
This would have been the end of it, if not for the fact that he managed to contact me via another player (Forgot trials can't send tells or invite to team.) a short time later... "How do I go to other places than atlas?" I told him to check his map for the "T" which was the tram. His response?
"You can take a tram?! SWEET!" He couldn't find the map, so I told him to click his nav button above his health bar. I recieved a message so full of revelation and elation and saw him heading off to the tram. He thanked me for all the help (So many thx, and KKthx I thought i was playing WoW), and quit the team.
I am currently teaching my fiance to play (Just got a second computer, and she never wanted to get hooked and have to fight over who got to play... And that's why she is my fiance.) And have noticed a lot of new players rushing the city. I understnd that AE has left many people with a foul taste in their mouth for Noobs, but as math will tell you, "Not all Newbs are Noobs, though Noobs can be Newbs." or something like that, I was never that good at the maths. This player on "Justice" went by the name of "Lazer Beam", and had said that no one else would talk to or help him, and thouroughly absorbed the play experience with all the wonder I did when I first started playing back in 04'. For all you vets like me, please remember that a lack of vet badges does not make someone the enemy, they could potentially be your newest teammate or supergroup member. and we should welcome them to the game like we used to. We all needed help at some point, and there is a lot of new blood eager to sample the best Super Hero MMO online.
Let's remember to show em why. We are a great community, not an exclusive club. Now get out there and help out a Newb!
I haven't made much of an effort lately....think I'll go log on and cruise Atlas for a while... -
Quote:Ditto on that particular player. I've never kicked anyone from a team and even I may have kicked him.I would have kicked that jerk too. That's just STUPID. There is NO reason at ALL to fear "death" in the game at level 50. That's just stupid.
But I personally "fear death" at lvl 50. It's never really been about the rewards for me as much as about the fact that I abhor losing. I cannot stand it.Dying at lvl 50 should not bother me logically but it does. I avoid the Leroy Jenkins style because of that. The need for tactics never leaves me.
And if not liking to exemplar down a lvl 50 is snobbery I guess I'm a snob. I've never liked it. I do it (ran Citadel and Sister Psyche just yesterday) ...but it does bother me. Those "greyed out" powers just sit there and mock me. I do feel like I've earned those powers after all.
Something tells me I'm not the only one since they just put in the "5 levels above your exemp level" thing. (Which is totally sweet) -
As reported above, the green grass was back for me on Freedom yesterday from the afternoon on until 6:00pm at least. Crossing fingers that it's still ok today.
-
We can slot KB protection, don't see why we can't slot mez protection too. (Especially since mezzes can be worse than KB) At make the set bonuses something worth looking at. A 50% reduction in hold time would be a nice thing to slot for.

Quote:I wish we would hear more feedback like this. Even if the problem isn't fixed it's always nice to know they are working on it."This isn't actually our problem. That is, this problem isn't occurring on our network. The real issue here is that there's a routing problem with one of our peer ISPs. We have no control over what routes your connection signal takes to reach our game servers, nor do we have any control over what routes your connection signal takes when it leaves our servers on the return path to your location. Since this is occurring with an ISP that we work closely with, our Network Engineering team is in contact with them, presently, to help get this cleared up as quickly as they can. That's the current status.
As soon as we have an update that confirms the resolution, you will be notified via this e-mail support ticket. Until then, you're welcome to play characters on any of the west coast servers since they're not affected by this. " -
Quote:Same happened to me when I took them to Cimorora. I got 2 green outlines and one blue. All three followed but not sure what would happen xp-wise if the blue one killed something. I sent a bug report.Yeah I zoned with my fire imps yesterday on my dominator. Odd thing is, 2 of them came out with blue outlines and names as if they were friendly NPC entities(the kind that follow you when you rescue or kidnap them), and only one came out with the usual green name and outline of pets. Is that a known bug? Didn't have time to investigate it further.
I really loved having my pets follow me all over the place though. My MM's will jump for joy. -
Kinda sweet to log on and get pummelled with new badges on every toon. Email was turned off immediately. Cool.
First I changed my Spines/Dark Scrapper. Then I logged on a bunch of other toons to change colors. Pretty much stuck with the same color across the powersets for now...I was in a hurry. I'll revisit this one later and take my time.
Then I tried out the new difficulty options. This game is now fully customizable! Not sure how anyone can complain. I did forget to turn down my setting (+0 team size 6) when I went to test my AE arc. My critters don't mess around and I got pwned. I did manage to kill enough of them to see that only one of my critters got hit by the xp nerf...and he still gives out like 80% or so...so I can live with it.
Made a Ice/Cold Controller but not sure I'll stick with it. Hard to imagine it could be more fun than my Ice/Storm.
Noticed some going for the new "master of" badges but didn't have the time to join them. I hear there are bugs there so I'm glad of that. -
One I did yesterday was to run a lvl 9 Safeguard mish with my lvl 50 badger for the exploration badge along with a lvl 9 alt. That one would have been much slower today. (Since I had to run 3 radio mishes to get the bank...the badge part was easy)
-
Same. Just another small improvement to pile on top of all the other small improvements we've gotten.
