When i asked that specific question to a friend the other day when i read about this on another site, he said yes, it will emulate physx on those mentioned cards.

He said it would "uses spare clocks built into the card that aren't being used, to do the physics"

Next week sounds good too. I'll be keeping an eye out for it.

I think the issue was mis-interpreted from me as i was reading either another thread about 8000 series cards OR a different forum, about 1 minute prior to reading this - then 30 minutes later thought i'd post about it, and put it on the wrong forum or thread, believing i'd read it here. I honestly can't remember now. However, ill admit, you're right, i should've checked before posting.. (twice)

I will point out tho - from myopics first post to myopics second post - it was discussing the 8800GT card.

But, as GR said.. a minor mis-understanding.

I DID read the 'damn posts' - i was giving my Point of view across. and advising on from the original posters link about 8800 gt cards..*sigh*

If you weren't referring to me in particular, maybe you should make that apparant in your post....

I've been running 2 8800GT's in SLI mode (2x512mb) for ages now - and not had any heat issues. (famous last words)

I did however manage to blow up my previous 2 cards (6800 ultra's 2x256mb) - but that was because i used the air duster at slightly the wrong angle and it left that dodgy residue on the chips on my motherboard.. turned it all on, fzzzzt! dodgy smell - motherboard, graphics cards, processor, power supply and memory all shot in one go. <sigh>

I replaced everything but the graphics cards for £205 - then bought the 2 new 8800 GT's fairly cheaply. I'm loving the newer syatem, and not had any issues for about 6 months, since i purchased it all.

...unless it costs the earth, such as an Alienware, as it'll contain smaller versions of a powerful desktop PC.

Those HP specs on graphics...
Display resolution - 1280 x 800
Video adapter - NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
Video RAM - Up to 1023 MB Total Available Graphics Memory with 256 MB dedicated

I believe 1280 x 800 is an ok res, but it isn't the 'norm' - 1440 x 900 is the normal resolution for a widescreen laptop, so you may find whilst windows will display it correctly, games may not.

Where it says 'up to 1023' video graphics memory - I believe it means 'takes it from standard memory if required. So dedicated 256 is ok - but I'm sure anything else over that and you'll notice a distinct issue with your normal memory going down as the graphics driver will use it - moreso with vista, supposedly as Vista seems to use more memory to run (allegedly)

I could be wrong on that, but I'm sure that's how I remember it. (I'm sure someone like FFM will let me know it's that's right or wrong).

..and in that situation it's affecting possibly a whole team of players therefore /petition inside a TF would likely get a GM's notice quicker, based on that fact from what GR told us above.

Just out of interest - What missions does Mako appear in ? (hero and villains side) I think i've only seen him once in a mission to either rescue or kill (i can't remember) 4 different notable named bosses.

Powers that would in fact, create degredation of clothing's looks when hit, etc. if you're swiped by a sword, clothing should rip. at the end of missions you could pay a nominal fee of the inf gained on the mission to 'repair' your clothing, or continue for a while with it ripped till you DO repair it. OR change it so that at level 20 you change your costume, to the 2nd option and back again, to repair costume 1, for example.

This may help - 'borrowed' from a recent thread

Change 'CoH Shortcut' -> 'Properties' -> 'Target'
from:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
to:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.EU.exe"
and check 'Start In' reads:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes"
and then change:
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe
to:
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.EU.exe
finally check that:
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe
is set to .exe not .eu.exe

The locations above are for the default CoH/CoH Heroes and villains editions.

(going from memory, here, so bear with me)

965 may supposedly run CoX - but very, very badly, with a low frame rate.

Processor in those laptops are either a 1.6ghz dual core Intel or a 1.7ghz dual core intel..

Chances are, because the D range of Dell's are primarily for Business use, it won't have a decent sized amount of Graphics memory (im thinking 64mb, or possibly 128mb) on that 965 graphics chip.

We have about 1000-2000 users at work with that exact PC. They don't play games on them, because they aren't really built for gaming. I'm honestly not surprised CoX isn't running on it. Our staff use it mainly for presentations and Word documents, etc. y'know.. business use

Dipstar, If you are able to, make sure to go to Dell's website - support.euro.dell.com and download the latest graphics driver, sound driver, chipset driver and if necessary, upgrade the bios to make sure you're running on all the very latest.

On Dell's website you can choose which machine you have and it will display ll the relevant drivers for you.

edit: after typing this i saw the post above, about drivers already downloaded.

The problem with that tho is the main search comment window when viewing someone elses comments only immediately shows about 10 characters - with the 'no blind invites', 'no fills' and other information about who you'll team with and such, sometimes it doesn't actually show by glancing - and may i just say sometimes people who farm don't bother looking in the search comment at all, or don't bother holding their mouse over a player before sending the PM or blind invite.

I'm not complaining about farmers, nor am i condoning (sp?) them, just an observation i've made in my time playing.

Like i said - it's loyalty bonus. Once it's handed out - if it seems it's being taken away or we're not given something we think is bonus enough for our loyalty, it's human nature to either be disappointed or want to complain.

It's like anything in life - 9 times out of 10 people will complain, but only about 3 times out of 10 do people praise.

Not really. I see it more like:

I've never complained about anything in this game previously. This has got me really disappointed. But not enough to cancel my subs for the next 6 months...(anticipates the 57th vet reward..) and the 5th year (60th vet) reward better be something special...

Please note - my disappointment isn't directed at any of the red names here, as they do an amazing job in my opinion, but one would assume the US devs who decided this 54th vet cop out.

For me the Vet rewards are like a loyalty bonus. Bit like using game reward cards, or tesco club card or nectar card. The 54th seems like they revoked my loyalty bonus for 3 months.

Are they a bit of a cop out, or not ?

I like the idea of having those helmets available for the 51st month reward. But can't help thinking i would never use them.

But.. I don't think i'd use them much unless i played a villain whose costume could incorporate it.

I'm sure there will be others who will like them.

54th Reward.. We'll already have 2 of the 4 items, so get only 1 choice of the other two, which it tells you in the text when you initially receive them, is meant for a different origin...

definate access to all maps - i played a map on my 50 the other day which took place in the office location but with a delapidated hospital setting with beds, screens and IV drips everywhere and thought to myself 'blimey, i've not seen this before' - so maybe keep the map design level range to the ones you'd see for your specific level, so's not to stop 'that' feeling of something new?

More physics with the items inside missions, e.g. shopping trolleys that may have been left by the roadside actually mvoe when nudged, rubble you can walk over that bricks move about in, doors that aren't just always open within offices, but would move when pushed (a bit like the phone boxes in villains). that kinda thing

Things you can actually pick up and throw, rather than things that materialise in thin air then get thrown.

There's already Atlas Park, Galaxy City, Perez Park, The Hollows, Kings Row, Steel Canyon, Skyway City and Boomtown, for the 1-20 range at least. and probably the one place most missed : Sewer Network, for normal hunting.
