"Unmountable Boot Volume"
First test is to establish if its a HD that wasn't screwed in the first place. Power off system and open the case - reseat ALL the cables internally - not just the HD.
It may now just work, if not then I'd recommend running a utility to check the state of ya HD. You can download a great utility full CD from here: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Try a few of the tools on there to verify the HD itself aint botched.
Is this the only hard drive in the machine? Does it boot to Windows? and at what point do you get the error ?

0xED as stop code means two things.
1: You could be lucky, and your file system is repairable using chkdsk /r
2: You could be not so lucky, and the disk is dead.
Okay, it's a fairly old machine but with a new HD. Today I got this message and I have no idea what it means. I suspect that it means I've broken the HD somehow but if anyone could clarify, I'd like to know if... how much I have to buy to get it fixed.
