Now we can wonder (and speculate) as to WHY he deleted those posts. We can only hope it was due to developing a sense of shame as some of them were pretty reprehensible.Quote:A little late for that i think.
Kind of like closing the barn door after the rest of the structure burned down.
(Actually, maybe the worst ones got modsmacked. I never checked.) -
I don't mind rebuilding the bases themselves. However, my main base has 18 storage items - most of which are full. Nine of those are Enhancement Tables. That's a problem.

That guide is crazy long, but it says you should start the trial in Pocket D since that gives you a hospital and inspiration vendor right by the base portal.Quote:Here is a link to Amygdala's Guide to the Cathedral of Pain Trial.
Every trial I have been on started in the Rikti War Zone - presumably for those exact reasons. -
Quote:And I happen to like playing CoH. That's *WHY* I play it.Of course I'm trying to get the highest score possible while bowling, but I also happen to like bowling.
If I didn't like bowling, I wouldn't go do it just to get a high score while not having fun. That would be a case of my score being more important than my enjoyment of it.
Which is exactly what I was talking about.
It sounds like you think there are large numbers of players who grind and farm just to get the rewards for the rewards own sake. I don't believe that to be accurate. Sure, there are plenty of people who farm, and not because they enjoy farming. They want something specific to increase their ENJOYMENT of the game and farming is the fastest way they know to get it. -
Or maybe you will. Unless you're consistently using O2 Boost at least once per 120 seconds, you're not getting your moneys worth from the IO. Also, it doesn't really make sense (to me) to have it in a power that costs END anyway. You're paying END to boost your recovery. Finally, after a fight ends and you're down HP and END, are you going to remember to zap someone with O2 Boost to keep your regen and recovery up?

<sigh> They might think that if they were repeatedly dropped on their heads as a small child. I can make up delusional paranoid stories too but is there really a point to it?

Quote:Don't get me started on that. It drives me nuts how many people think they have "tin foil" in their kitchen. It's ALUMINUM FOIL, people!Isn't tin used to make tinfoil? I think there ought to be a conspiracy to drive up the price of their hats.

Actually, if you devoted ANY thought to this, you'd realize that those cases absolutely prove my point. In case you missed it, I said prices are a result of "SUPPLY and demand". Cartels in the real world can manipulate the supply. And before the market conspiracy nuts chime in, that doesn't work in CoH because supply springs into existence out of thin air. -
Quote:That doesn't make sense. Currently, the badge is awarded when the head is defeated. The tentacles contribute nothing toward getting the badge. How is this significantly different from having the badge based on damage but only counting the fight against the head? They made it this way due to the way that Lusca keeps "swimming" away. The mechanics of it are that Lusca actually despawns when a tentacle is defeated and a "new" Lusca who is -1 Tentacle to the previous one spawns somewhere else. If they only awarded it based on damage done, they'd end up with characters doing damage to all the tentacles but then not damaging the head and then not getting the badge even after doing over 7/8th damage to the monster.
After all, you're not attacking one critter during the fight. Technically, Lusca is 9 monsters. -
I'm pretty sure at least some of them are. There was a story a while back how someone with the name Frostfire got generic'ed. He appealed the decision and got his name back due to the fact that he had the name FIRST (before the NPC was introduced to the game).

Quote:Oh REALLY? Are you going to look me in the eye (monitor) and tell me that you aren't trying to get the highest score you can?Look at anything else you do for enjoyment. Lets say you enjoy bowling, for example. When you go out bowling with your friends, you're going out for the express purpose of going bowling.
When I play CoH, I do so for the "express purpose" of playing CoH. And I prefer to play characters that can earn XP, rather than characters that are already 50. It's human nature. People want to accomplish something, even if it's in a game. They want to see progress. They enjoy setting and passing milestones.
Your example fails again. In both cases, aren't people KEEPING SCORE? When you go bowling, do you just toss the ball and not keep track of how many pins you knock down?Quote:Why are video games, and MMOs in particular, so different? You would think that it would be the same. If you go bowling to have fun, why wouldn't you play video games for the same reason? -
Another one with no clue. The devs and NPCs don't set any prices. The players do. It's called supply and demand. In the real world, this explains why gold is more expensive than tin.

Quote:You really have no clue, do you?Except that's not what's happening. You're going around the region buying all the cowbells and storing them, creating a false scarcity for an otherwise common item then demanding $500 for the very few that you do allow to trickle onto the market.
To continue your cowbell example - I don't like that price of $500. Therefore I go off and magically create some cowbells out of thin air. Guess what! You can actually do that in this game! Imagine that! -
Quote:No. The STF and LRSF are apparently considered complementary. They give the SAME INCARNATE COMPONENT (Incarnate Essence... or is it Essence of the Incarnate?). Same story for Barracuda and Dr. Kahn (Dimensional Keystone).IIRC they have different rewards tables and therefore running them back to back Shards would be available for each. Hero and Villain TF/SFs are different so same for DKTF and BSF.
Having said that, since they are not the SAME TF, you can run STF/LRSF back to back and get the rewards. Similar to how you can run all 3 respec trials back to back and get the full rewards. -
Quote:Since you say "us", I guess you're referring to the Titanium Debtinators. While I am in that group (and an officer), I also run a coalition of three supergroups.I'd like to add to Ironblade's comment that, Ironblade is on Inifinity server and part of an excellent Super Group that, while not an RP group, has been very friendly and helpful in my several years being here. You are welcome to come seek out us out and enjoy the evening.

Quote:Yep, it always sucks to have to explain to my kiddo that he can't make that [insert cool recipe] that actually dropped for him because some jerk wants to market pvp and the common salvage costs 90% of his character wealth. Yeah yeah, he can wait until tomorrow and I personally have no issues with it, but explaining to an 8 year old that he has to wait because someone is being greedy over some pixels gets old.Well, ouch. Surely you understood from my over-the-top phrasing that I was joking. If you look at my sig, you'll see I'm in Paragon City Search And Rescue (a public service SG) and The Mentor Project (which is about helping new players). The overwhelming majority of the players are not jerks.Quote:
Dealing with self centered jerks is just part of life, and this is a good lesson I suppose though I would rather they weren't forced to do it in their leisure time gaming. -
Quote:Please tell us how you are checking that. My procs have been working perfectly.and it's not affecting me either. It just plain isn't affecting anyone.
oops, you said by checking Combat Attributes. That's weird. Mine are working fine. Did you check in the 120 seconds after using the power? -

My marketeering is uber-casual and brings in well SOUTH of 100 million per week (over 50, though). Combining that with regular game play, my 'cash on hand' steadily increases. My needs are simple.

Quote:Getting prestige isn't as hard as you might think. A number of people like to 'burn' influence and will convert some to prestige for you. Also, there are often SGs and VGs for sale. If someone happens to be selling one with a name you like.... Also, you can earn crazy amounts during double XP weekend. If you're going to create the SG, the time is now! (Or at least before Jan 27.)My kids like to team every now and again, and frankly redside on our server is pretty empty so I was toying with the idea of taking everything blue instead. If it means having to completely junk the base, that's a stumbling block. If it means having to start the SG over from scratch at 0 prestige... not sure that would happen.
I don't recall if this works now, or not. Can a hero and villain trade items now? If so, you just get one person from the SG and one from the VG to meet by the base portal in RWZ and hand the stuff off.Quote:Ok, the suggestions are fine... though trying to deal with 5 enhancement tables and 13 salvage racks that are stuffed full through e-mails would be a serious pain. Not really functional to tell an 11 year old and 8 year old to remember what they need, switch characters and e-mail to themselves. Just not a good solution. -
Quote:Nonsense. It's not excessive. Nor is it a flaw or plague. The excessive amount of CC/status effects in CoX is still one of the big things that plagues it. It is this flaw that causes such a huge percentage of people to play scrappers and brutes when they'd love to play more blasters and other ATs.
Fair enough. *YOU* think it's too much and that it's a problem.Quote:That's one of my personal rants I've had about the game since the beginning. Way too much CC. -

Quote:First your friend's heatsink won't work, it needs to be Socket 1156 compatible.I still wouldn't go with that one. It's OLD. It's not just last years tech, it's OLD. Look at the Zalman cooler I linked in my post. It's *HUGE* compared to that one. At this minute, I am running SETI@home and Rosetta@home so all 4 cores are running flat-out at 100% utilization. My temperature readings are ranging between 53 and 55C. My previous dual-core CPU would be pushing 60C with the Intel stock cooler.Quote:I forgot -- my friend mentioned that I can buy this adapter for $5.
You won't see a huge improvement in mission loading time. Most of that pause seems to be server-side.Quote:Still hemming and hawing about whether to use that recovered money to plunk down on a 64GB SSD just so I can have the quick boot-up times. (And CoH load times if CoH will fit -- I wonder if I would miss reading the tips at the bottom of the load screens....)
Re-read these paragraphs. I agree completely with each point. FYI, I have Win7 Pro, CoH, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, etc and my SSD has 38GB used (out of 128). You mention you're thinking about a couple of other games. Get a bigger SSD.Quote:If you're looking at using the recovered funds from the downgrades to go with an SSD primary drive, take a look at the 120-128GB disks. Those are easily in your price range now. Keep the Spinpoint drive for mass storage and swap space. Now you might be able to get away with a 64GB drive. I'm just always paranoid about running out of space on my main drive, so I like lots and lots (and lots and lots) of headroom.
Note that my current Win7 Ultimate install with only a couple apps (including Office and CoH) clocks in at about 36GB right now.
And you'll still see the tips on the load screens. Even with the monster throughput on my SSD RAID-0, I still have to sit and wait. Zone/map load times aren't totally dependent on disk throughput.
Fair enough.Quote:Okay, tossed in the Crucial 64GB SATA-III, which is all I'm willing to cough up for at this point.

Quote:You know, despite being set up to auto-renew, one of my accounts failed to do so last month. I have no idea why, since it was on the same credit card as my main account and the billing fell in a different month so it couldn't have hit any cap.All City of Heroes® players who maintain an active, uninterrupted account
I will be really cheesed if I fail to get these goodies because NCSoft borks my billing.
