Quote:<snort> Yeah, we already know that. The point was that yelling and threatening a ragequit isn't productive in getting things changed. It just makes people more likely to ignore the shouter.Yeah?
And maybe you need to realise that people can and will express their annoyance at NCSoft pulling this ****.
But it's going to "harm" the same number of people whether the adjustment is made on the EU or NA accounts. If doing it one way is much easier, from a time and expense standpoint, then that way wins. This is a business. And people are going to ragequit NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO. Someone ragequits over every single thing that happens in the game. This is inevitable with a large population.Quote:this latest move could be interpreted as just another kick to the shins of EU subscribers as it impacts us the most heavily. With a smaller player base, there comes a tighter knit community and facing the fact that we could all be called something different in a few months time because it is 'the most efficient' does feel as if the path of least resistance was chosen over the one that would harm the community least.
I would expect the people who own the game (the devs aren't running this show) to pick the method that they estimate will put (keep) the most money in their pockets. Obviously, keeping as many of your players as happy as possible, is the way to do this, balanced against the expense. If they could calculate exact costs and numbers of players who would leave, this would be a simple equation. If it's going to cost us $1,000 each to retain X number of players, say good-bye. If it's going to cost us $50 each to retain X number of players, that's the way to go.Quote:I would expect the devs to put in the work to find a system which affects the least number of players and does so fairly. Fair being defined as applied equally between all players.
It always amazes me how many people come out of the woodwork to offer a 'better' way to do things. Somehow, they think they have better ideas than the employees of a company that do this for a living every single day. They know some people aren't going to like this. They know some people will feel it's not fair or right. And they know some people will quit over it. And they're probably going to do it anyway because they feel it's the correct business decision. I say probably because someone MIGHT come up with a cogent argument to do it differently - but it doesn't seem likely. -
Quote:It's not. People in the area only receive information on your current costume. This relates to why we have a 30 second timer on costume changes. Each time you change costume, it has to send the costume data to everyone nearby. A handful of people spamming costume changes could cause serious problems for people in the immediate vicinity.Trying to think of a technical limitation for our current number of slots. Are the extra costumes stored as part of the information of the character (I.E. when you enter a zone, all the information about you, like powers, current costume, as well as position are loaded into the zone for everyone elses computer to draw you correctly)

Firstly, you ran into a jerk. It can happen anywhere. This kind of situation is why we have the star system and player notes. You can easily avoid the jerk (and her friend) forever, no matter if they are on a different character.
Unfortunately, the Weekly Strike Target brings out the worst of the community - people who are interested in nothing but the reward, have no concern for others feelings and would exploit the hell out of the game in a heartbeat. Only a tiny fraction of the playerbase is like this, but the WST is where they will gravitate.
Quote:From what I've heard from RL friends and family who play CoH and other MMO's, many (if not most) other MMO's are WORSE. Some are MUCH worse. CoH has a much higher average player age and a higher percentage of women than most other games. After three years of playing, I am just about through with City of Heroes. The griefing is just awful.
Finally, if you're on Infinity, I'll organize and lead an ITF just for you and your son (and anyone else you'd like to bring). Please contact me via PM or in-game to @Ironblade One or @Ironblade Too

I'd gladly pay for more slots with 2 conditions:
1) They'd have to be cheaper than character slots.
2) We would have to be able to have AT LEAST EIGHT per toon. (I have one guy that really needs 3 more.)

Yeah, we got that. And several people tried to explain that there could be valid BUSINESS (database, administrative, etc) reasons for it, and not just "We hate the EU." But I guess you're too bent out of shape to concede that there might be logical and sensible reasons behind this decision.

Quote:It's a fairly straightforward business decision all things considered. The Devs looked at the situation and said, "What's the way we can do this that'll impact the fewest number of people?" Letting the EU players take the hit on this obviously sucks for the players involved, but overall it minimizes the total number of people affected. You are correct. That argument has already been debunked multiple times. 500 name conflicts is 500 name conflicts. If you change the EU names, you affect 500 people. If you change the NA names, you affect 500 people.Quote:Firstly, I don't mean to call out, but I still don't understand how this is true. If there are 500 conflicts, surely 500 peoples' names would be affected regardless of whether it's NA-first, EU-first, Vet-first, or even gender-first. What makes the EU being affected less damaging than the NA? Genuine curiosity.
As Arcanaville pointed out, doing it this way may mean less WORK from a programming standpoint. If you hit 500 people either way, then the way that is less work wins. -

I have two answers for this.
1) Captain Kirk: "What does God need with a starship?"
2) "I'm going to equip myself with a little . . . FOUR WHEELS OF FURY!" -
Of course, all the people who insist that farming is okay seem to be right. It's EXPLOITING that's a problem.

Well, Wikipedia says:
Highlander (film), the first film
Highlander II: The Quickening, the second film
Highlander III: The Final Dimension, the third film, also known as "Highlander III: The Sorcerer"
Highlander: Endgame, the fourth film
Highlander: The Source, film spin-off of the television series
Highlander: The Reckoning, a franchise reboot film -

Infinity used to be a big PvP server, and there is still SOME since people consider it their home server, but most of the PvP went to Freedom.

I think the context might matter. When Alex in 'A Clockwork Orange' tells someone to "Come and get one in the yarbles!", I don't think there are any childrens toys involved.Quote:That's easy, it's slang for coloured marbles. Yarble being yellow, rarble being red, blarble being blue... you get the idea?

Quote:Deja vu?Really dumb question: Does the Patron Power Pool mission from Arbiter Rein still exist on red side?
Either that was you on the N P C channel or someone else happened to ask the exact same question AND phrase it the same way. And since that was after 9, I'm guessing you went back and tried asking in-game again? -
Glaring issue: That CPU is socket 1155, just like motherboard #1. However, mobo #2 is socket 1366 and not compatible with that CPU. I agree that going past the Core i5 is overkill if CoH is the most demanding application you expect to run.
Comment: Wow, that's a lot of RAM. I have 8GB and can run 2 instances of CoH plus my browser, Excel, Word and Photoshop without running out.
I'd find a mobo compatible with that CPU and drop the RAM to 8GB (no triple channel). I have that exact same power supply. BTW, I have the same RAM also, but a dual channel kit (i.e. 2 sticks of 4GB). Nice case. And.... I can't offer any advice on the video since I'm only familiar with AMD. -
Well, GATE is bringing his tank and Mystery wants to bring his emp. So.... maybe I'll bring a sonic defender. I'll see what other sign-ups we get and figure out what would be useful.

Quote:Also, from an article on Robert Cringely's blog:I sort of hope this doesn't set Nuclear power itself back though. I can just can see people declaring how unsafe Nuclear power is... entirely forgetting that the reactors got hit with multiple earthquakes and a frigging 3 story high wave of solid water.
"A boiling water reactor does just what it sounds like it boils water to make steam that drives a turbine generator. This is as opposed to a pressurized water reactor that uses the nuclear reaction to heat a coolant that never really boils because it is under high pressure, then sends that coolant through a heat exchanger which heats water to make steam to drive the generator. Boiling water reactors are simpler, cheaper, but generally arent made anymore because they are perceived as being less safe."
Apparently, these are older reactors using an outdated design. -

1) Download and run the CoH Helper program. That will let you produce a detailed listing of your current hardware.
2) Go to the Technical Issues and Bugs section and start a thread asking your question and including the CoH Helper info.
That will allow people to answer the first, key question: CAN you upgrade, or do you need to get a new system.
