  1. That's a great suggestion. Drives me crazy scrolling through all those cluses to find the one I just picked up.
  2. An assault rifle/traps corruptor would be a nice combo for the nasty bag of tricks feel. My buddy has one, and he loves it.
  3. First of all, welcome back to the game!

I find myself having the same problem. I am a stop and smell the roses kind of player and I tire of constant speed TFs and steam rolling every mission. I like to crank the difficulty up a bit and working out stategies to get through. I am on Freedom as well and have a few villains in that level range. I usually play around 9:00 PM central time on week nights, so if you are on at that time, shoot me a tell @Guardian Irish-Fury, and I'll be happy to join you.
  4. I was trying to get within one purple from the S/L soft cap and have a decent amount of resistance since /fire put me in melee range fairly often. Any major holes in this build?

  5. I don't think my heroes could call themselves heroes if they ignored the things going on in the world around them. However, at the same time, my characters realize there are thousands of other heroes in the city who can see to certain threats. I generally asign my characters to certain areas. For example, one is assisting with the Praetorian War, one with the Rikti situation, and another tends to take on street level crime while most of the cities heores are tied up in interdimensional war.

I, as the player, will sometimes ignore things that happen in game. Rikti invasions are a good example of this. If I am on my way to a mission and a Rikti invasion starts, everyone of my characters would stop to help fend of the invaders. What hero wouldn't? But if I am deeply involved in a story arc, I will pretend the Rikti invasion simply is not happening at that moment.

Another example: When I am doing my marketing in Steel Canyon, I am moving from WWs to the University, to AE to get salvage. Along the way I see hundreds of crimes. Since I consider marketing an OOC activity, I do not stop to assist the citizens in distress because as I see it, I am not really playing my character at that moment. On the other hand, if I see a purse snatching on my way to a mission or to my SG base, I will stop, even on my level 50 hero, and stop the crime.

So to answer your question, yes my characters care about the storyline and the things happening in the game world, but sometimes I do not.
  6. It's another shiny to entice freemium players to become VIPs. Considering how much more powerful your characters can be with IOs, it seems like good motivation to fork over $15 per month.

  8. My favorite toon for this kind of fun is my DP/Kin corruptor. However, since you already have a kin, you might not want that. Another combo i really enjoy is my archery/fire blaster. Yummy aoe damage that requires you jumping right in the middle of the action resulting in some hair raising close calls that get the adrenaline going. Play it on x8 or not at all.
  9. If you have ever had to explain to your boss that browsing the CoH forums during working hours IS a good use of company time...you might be a CoH addict.
  10. Irish Fury

    influence cap

Yes, 2 billion is the inf cap for a single toon.

There are arcs there specifically designed as replacement for the low level (1-10) arcs in game. They shouldn't have to run through a higher level zone to run them. It'd be as silly as coming out of the tutorial on the far side of Talos and being told you have to reach the train to reach Atlas Park to level.
You know, that is a good point that I hadn't considered. I've enjoyed quite a few low level arcs in AE for a change of pace.
  12. I didn't realize I was stepping out of bounds by using the term "petition" and I offer sincere apologies for that faux pas. Is there a way for me to change the thread title to indicate this is a suggestion?

Again, I would like to stress that I am not bothered by the broadcasts for farming. It is your $15, do whatever you want. I also recognize that this is much more prevalant on the Freedom server, but given the "CoH:Feeedom" name, I imagine most of the new folks will start their toons on that server. Major Deej made the case for this much more elloquently that I did.

Not at all. I enjoy AE as much as anyone. Both as a place to enjoy story arcs, and to speed through a few tough levels. I think you may be missing the point of my post. My concern was that the new players would only see the powerleveling side of the game and miss out on the dev created content and the joy of leveling a character through mission contacts/TFs. I also thought they could not play AE which would have excluded them from a large portion of teams being formed, however, it seems I was mistaken about that bit.

This is interesting. I must have missed that announcement. Do you have a link? Not that I doubt you, I am just curious if there is other info on free/premium access I missed.
  15. With what will hopefully be a flood of new players coming with the release of CoH: Freedom, I think it is worth considering the removal of the AE building from Atlas Park.

This thought came to me while I was carrying some LotG Rech IO's from Fort Trident to WWs and watching Atlas broadcast. It is a never ending stream of power level advertisements and requests. While I have no issue with people choosing to use the AE to power level their toons, I do not think that this is the first side of the game new players should be exposed to. Not to mention that if I understand the free player access correctly, free players can not join AE teams. Imagine how frustrating that would be. You load in to the first zone and find that you can not participate in 90% of the teams being formed. Remove AE from Atlas Park and the power levelers can move their operations to Steel Canyon (which has better facilities anyway with the university crafting tables right next to WWs.)
  16. I will be going to premium. I am going back to school this fall to complete my degree and was planning on unsubbing since I won't have enough time to devote to CoH to justify a sub fee. Fortunately, CoH: Freedom gives me the ability to continue playing my favorite characters without paying. I will likely purchase some PPs here and there for new shinies, and I will likely go back to VIP once I am finished with school.
  17. Well, I guess this day had to come eventually. My schedule has become too hectic and unpredictible for me to continue a static team with any reliability. I will be returning to school in a few weeks to work on completing my degree and my already limited game time will be cut even shorter. We had a great time and acomplished some pretty amazing things. I will still be running all DP TFs and such in the future, just not on a set schedule. I'll be sure to post a new thread whenever I decide to put one together. Until then my pistol-packing heroes!
  18. Bad runs are bound to happen, and it rarely is the fault of one person, so don't take it too hard. Even something as routine as an ITF is going to hit a snag now and again. I've failed my fair share to be sure. If your team mates were upset over a failed TF, then I say good riddance, one star, and move on.
  19. The crowds will also vary depending on which server you chose and the time of day you play. Freedom and Virtue are the highest population servers and maintain a good number of people all hours of the day and night. Atlas Park on hero side is where you find most people hanging out.
  20. I enjoy a wide range of ATs, but I will try to limit my take to a few favorites.

Blasters- Cocky and often arrogant. These guys do more damage than anyone and they know it.

Corruptors- Consumed physically, emotionally, and intellectually by their massive power. I feel this AT is the best representation of a true villain

Tanks: The strong confident type. These are the alpha dog, natural born leaders of the hero world. I can't think tank without thinking Superman. Conversely, this is the AT that says real hero to me.

Stalkers: Quiet, deadly, greedy, and cowardly. I see no reason a stalker should ever be anything but a rogue or do any more than mission objectives demand.

Brute: I have a hard time seeing a brute as any thing more than the name suggests; a mindless well...brute, who won't stop until everyhting in his path is destroyed. I like to think there is always a corruptor pulling the strings.

Dominators: Just plain nuts. These are the guys who want to set the world on fire just to watch it burn and then piss on the ashes.

Scrapper: Non stop waves of destruction. These guys love to get their hands dirty and fight, and they are good at it. The closer to death they get, the more fun they are having. They are the ultimate risk takers.

That's pretty much my take on my favorite ATs. The funny thing is that most of my characters do not conform to these ideas at all. My main is a heroic brute who fits my tanker description. My first 50 is a blaster who is soft spoken, driven by grief, and hides a burning desire for vengeance. My stalker is a cocky 19 year old kid whose rich family set him up with cool weapons, and I have a corruptor who is a heroic time travelling cowboy.
  21. It appears that I will not be able to make it tonight. Still a lot to do to prepare for our weekend. Hopefully I will see you all next week.
  22. I forgot about Time Manipulation coming in i21 and Titan Weapons sometime soon after. Time manipulation will result in at least one corruptor and one controller. I can see this getting out of control real fast.
  23. Seriously folks, this is getting ridiculous. I was just starting to get control over my altholism and you announce a slew of power proliferation coming around the bend. Not only that, you are putting in fixes for powersets that sounded cool, but since they needed fixes, I was able to avoid. Now I will have to create and /energy aura scrapper, a /poison corruptor, and /poison controller, and a /fire blast defender. That is four toons AT LEAST.

Anyone else falling off the altholic wagon with this round of PP?
  24. Technically you could buy a PvP IO with them by converting them into hero merits. 50 Rewards Merits+20 Million Inf= 1 Hero Merit. I think PvP IOs cost 30 Hero Merits.

However, that would not be the most profitible use of your stockpile. I agree with Chaos that going to a merit vendor and doing random rolls will net you the most profit.
  25. Not sure if i will be able to make it this week. The wife and I are leaving Friday for a weekend vacation and will likely be spending Thursday evening packing. That being said, I may be able to sneak away for an hour to ruin a quick TF... shall see. this week's WST is Sutter which we have already run twice so I'd rather not do that. I've narrowed it down to three options, and I'll leave it up to you guys to decide which one we want to do.

    Apex
    Tin Mage
    Mender Silos (Ouroboros)
