Quote:This is advice for getting Kinetic Combats - if you have Going Rogue, do tip missions followed by morality missions on several characters (probably two, so you don't get sick of doing tips) who can solo really fast. The alignment merits can be used to buy the Kinetic Combat parts if you don't feel like messing with the market.I started my scrapper off with the 2xp weekend and once I began I could not put the character down at all. He is now up to lvl 41 as of now and I have been working with MIDS to try to work something out for better survival. I don't know exactly which way to take him.... I've tried to go with S/L defense soft cap and it comes down to 2 or 3 sets of Kinetic Combat which is pretty expensive. I know if I put in more I'll get more but man the prices for some of the recipes or crafted enhancements is up in the 60M-125M. I also wonder if I should build up for recharge because of energize? Basically I just need some suggestions or builds that would make my scrapper seem a tad more sturdy. I dont really see that many sets to help build on resistance like there are for defense. Sorta seems like the sets lead you to have to have defense sets. Anywho any help would be appreciated and much needed
For the Acc/Dam part, that can't be brought with alignment merits - but you can buy it with normal reward merits (50 a piece).
While this method is kind of slow, you WILL get everything... eventually. :3 -
Quote:Well, I actually have some IOs in storage, so my two choices at the moment are:I think you can still do 4 basilisk + lockdown proc - I was planning to use the first 4 basilisk pieces (skipping the quad and proc since they're pool Cs), the lockdown proc, and an acc/hold/rech from one of the cheap sets. That gives you 60ish acc, a bit of end, and 80ish hold/rech, which seems like plenty to me - 60%+ acc gives you 90%+ CTH on +2s and at least helps some against even higher level foes, and the last 20% rech only gives you a few seconds.
You could also possibly replace the acc/hold/rech with the purple acc/rech if you can afford it, you lose a bit of (honestly unnecessary) hold and gain extra acc and rech.
Basilisk's Gaze Acc/Hold, Acc/Recharge, Rech/Hold, End/Rech/Hold
Followed by either:
Lockdown: Chance for Hold, Acc/End/Rech/Hold
or
Lockdown: Chance for Hold, Unbreakable Constraint: Chance for Smash
Since I need Basilisk's set bonuses for my build, was debating on the two choices. I plan to go Spiritual for global recharge where it can fit in, but even so. :3 Does damage procs in Poison Trap still work good when in large mobs? Or is just having one damage proc kinda pointless? -
Quote:So what would be a decent way of slotting it? I planned to six slot mine in any event, using four parts Basilisk, Lockdown hold proc, and something for sixth, but now knowing accuracy is more important than I thought it would be in an autohit power, now I'm not so sure, haha. One thing to note is that poison gas trap isn't *quite* autohit. When the trap goes off, it summons two separate effects - one is a one-shot 6s mag 3 hold, and one is the pulsing -regen -recharge chance to hold/vomit. According to city of data, the persistant pulsing part is autohit, but the initial hold isn't. So if you're relying on that initial hold for mitigation or if you want to give your procs one extra chance to go off (they have 4 chances to go off on the pulsing part, so this would be a 5th), you might want to slot some acc.

Quote:So we can't even do normal missions with the level shift boost? UGHI've encountered the same issue in a RWZ Borea mission ("Destroy Rikti equipment").
With my new [Nerve Partial Radial Revamp] I consistently mapserver'd on the first spawn after four attempts. As soon as I switched to a [Musculature Core Boost] I was able to continue past the first spawn. -

Shadow Shard being opened up to villains - Arachnos, having made a pact with Vanguard in the Tin Mage TF have to co-operate with both Longbow and Vanguard AND the US military to set up a buffer zone in the shadow shard to help stop the Rularuu infestation (i.e. co-op zone stuff)
New enemy types - maybe something Lovecraftian in nature - how about seeing what the Praetorian Devouring Earth looks like?
New NPCs - where's the new War Witch the original prophesied about in the comics during her covenspace? Will she have a new name? Will she be Apex's sidekick and look up to him like a fangirl with him being mildly uncomfortable about it? How about Horus? And how about an updated model of Apex with War Witch's sword in a scabbard on his back?
More alternate animations please!
More hairstyles! -

My sole gripe is I want the MVAS to attack enemies with non-effecting attacks, i.e. it will fire lasers and whatnot at enemies, but they don't do any damage or status effects at all, haha.

Hrm, my two accounts are scheduled for renewal on Feb 29th and March 4th. If I cancel subscription, and then immediately sign up again for six months each, would that prevent any interruption time?

Quote:Remember that Broadsword has Parry, so as long as you fit that in, you can at least bring your melee defence to absurd 60+% levels by stacking it, possibly offsetting any -def on melee range at least.Like I said I've definitely considered sword and board, but I'm kind of cautious as to how it will hold up against future TFs, i.e. Tin Mage and Apex. From what I've heard, a lot of the new content, AVs especially, aren't friendly towards those with defense based powersets, i.e. shield.
So I guess specifically I am looking for something that can be awesome with end game content, or at least survivable. I'd also definitely be up for MA, I have a 45 MA/Fire scrapper that I'm just leaving around due to survivability issues.
Awesome DPS is fine and all but I'm looking for something that won't faceplant immediately on higher end TFs, if that makes sense. A friend of mine told me how the Apex TF did a great job of tearing apart his BS/Shield scrapper. I'd like to avoid anything completely terrible like that if its possible on a scrapper.
On the other hand, if pretty much most scrappers will have trouble on the late game TFs...well, I could stick with the FM/Shield scrapper I have that just hit 32.
[EDIT]Actually, looking back, what I may do is continue to use the FM/Shield Scrapper, and have him as a general farming toon, and for TFs? Use my fire/rad corr, seeing as how there always seems to be a need for buffs and debuffs and its usually not that hard to find a scrapper around.
And I'm not going to lie, a flaming sword looks REALLY BADASS with a shield. I'll have to keep in mind an MA/Shield or BS/Shield for future use though. But for now? Looks like plasma sword it is.[/EDIT]
As for the choice between a BS/Shield and FM/Shield, the answer was simple for me - I made both! -
Thinking about gutting my fire/kin controller, I just made him for a laugh, and threw IOs and HOs into his build. I'm starting to want those Acc/Dam HOs back, haha.
-
Fire does slightly more damage according to Mids, due to extra damage being Fire's 'secondary effect', I guess, haha.
Dark is just pure DoT damage, while Elec adds -End, allowing it to slowly drain endurance from foes. Bit weird how Dark's aura doesn't do mild -ToHit, but oh well. -
Quote:I solved the Crab Spider/Huntsman problem by rolling another soldier, haha.Well thank you for your reply and after playing the crab for a bit I will respec him back to huntsmen, I feel crab legs are best served on my plate along side with a cup of butter =) again. Thanks for your opinion you made it easy for me to decide.
My Crab Spider now summons six metal spiders and joins them in combat with blasts and buffs, while my Huntsman is a gun/mace combo soldier of fortune. -
Quote:I wouldn't mind using the Longbow sonic grenades. I DEMAND REVENGE!Looking over the various Longbow powersets, there's really little Longbow does that's in any way unique. The minions, lieutenants, and Officer bosses are essentially AR/Dev or DP/Dev Blasters, while Wardens just emulate other already-existing Hero ATs and powerset combinations (En/En Blaster, Storm/Elec Defender, Inv/SS Tanker, Mind/Emp Controller, etc) with regular Power Pools (Flight, Leadership, and Fighting) for the rest.
(Also, um... http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=603 ?)
Actually, maybe they should just redo it as a temp power... or replace Time Bomb on Devices with Sonic Grenade. -
Before Issue 5, Fire/Device Blasters were awesome because you six slot attack powers for all damage, using Targeting Drone to raise your accuracy... one day, I'll go back to my neglected level 30 Blaster and push him to 50. Why haven't I deleted him? He's my first ever alt when I started playing City of Heroes.
Currently playing a super neglected Issue 8 BS/Dark Scrapper... -
Quote:I don't think Statesman's daughter and grand daughter would mind him dating - it's just that Desdemona appears to be portrayed around Ms. Liberty's age, haha. Let's face it, if your grandfather was suddenly dating someone who was your age, you'd be mildly uncomfortable, wouldn't you? XDHeh. Well, as far as we know, Marcus has been celibate and single ever since Monica died ... that's more than twenty years now.
Surely they'd be okay with him dating NOW ...
(Or maybe not. Maybe he's waiting for them to both die before he resumes dating.)*
*Anyone remember Night Court? There was an episode about a couple of brawling older folks. Judge Harry asks them why they haven't divorced, and they reply they don't want to upset the kids and they're waiting for the kids to die before they get divorced. -
Quote:I'm already dreading how Miss Liberty and her daughter Ms. Liberty will respond to a possible pairing between Statesman and Desdemona. XDThe only character in the game that I get any kind of romantic vibe for Statesman now is Desdemona. She is basically in the same place in her life that Marcus Cole was when he first became Statesman-- leaving behind a life of crime with a possible future career as a hero.

Quote:Slight update - Empty Clips was recently steath-patched to do three tics of damage to an individual rather than a single shot, which is a nice touch.Oh, side note - Thugs' Empty Clips needs their damage to be divided into four attacks, since the guns are being fired twice from each gun. Dual Wield's damage is divided into two, so Empty Clips really should be four attacks rather than the four bullets somehow being compressed into a single attack. :3
Why three and not four, I dunno, haha!

Dark Armor sucks up a lot of endurance due to its many toggles. Without good slotting, it will always take up lots of endurance, unfortunately.
If you have some time, do some tip missions to affirm your alignment (i.e. hero tips), and then go for some A-merits, so you can get low level Miracle: Recovery, Numina: Regen/Recovery, Theft of Essence: Chance for Endurance, and possibly a Performance Shifter: Chance for Endurance. Remember to get the lowest level ones so you can slot them sooner.
Miracle and Numina go into Health, Performance Shifter will be the fourth slot in Stamina, and Theft of Essence goes into Dark Regeneration.
Bear in mind that although doing it this way will barely cost you anything (in fact, just the salvage, which can be got with AE tickets if you don't wanna pay the superhigh costs it can sometimes reach on the market, and low level crafting cost), it will take time (two days to affirm, after that two days per A-merit). Three of the IOs I listed are all at least 75 million plus inf at the lowest levels on the market if you were to go the option of bidding for them, which is why I prefer A-merits for the ones I do want (plus I feel uncomfortable handing over 100 million inf in one go to some random person I don't know, haha).
However, it doesn't mean you have to do it all at once, just do it at your own pace.Remember your other characters can do tip missions for A-merits to get their own recipes, and pass them by email (send it to your global name, remember to add the @) to the character you wish to have it on.
I find that villain side tip missions tend to go a bit faster than hero side tip missions, although that may just be me, hehe. -
Doesn't the Kismet unique have to be slotted into a passive/toggle to make full use of it so it can be 'always on'? If you put it in Parry, it will only start being active after using Parry once, which might not help on the initial hit. Wouldn't it be better putting the slot it uses into one of the defense toggles or Combat Jumping (if you have it)?

Quote:If you're softcapping, Aid Self is useful for the moments when you DO get hit, as you'll pretty much be taking them at full damage unless you have Tough on at the same time, or are already low on health (in which case, you'll receive scaling resistances which go higher the lower your health gets, up to 45% resists to all except Psi at like 10% health).Wow amazing reply. This is one of the most dedicated/thorough replies I've ever received in my internet history!
I downloaded the planner and I'm going to play around. For now I guess I'm aiming for Weave (I already have combat jumping). Somethings tells me I will regret not mixing Katana or Broadsword to SR (for parry).
Btw should I remove Aidself?
Thanks for the help
I guess I'll use common inventions and/or SO enhancements for now. Thanks!
With the entire Fitness pool which is now an inherent pool (meaning you get all four powers in it automatically at level 2), you should have more room for powers which you may not have considered before. -
Last time I used unstoppable was on Apex Task Force with the level 54 Hydra, haha. I had to eat up the toxic damage somehow while the rest of the team didn't seem to catch on to kill the pylons and instead went after the Hydra. XD

If the build you're interested in has strange power/level selections (like *ugh* Tactical Training: Maneuvers taken at level 49), simply change the levels at which you pick them (i.e. pick up Tactical Training: Maneuvers as soon as it's available!). It will basically involve you using Mids to recreate the build visually, but you pick the powers for when you want to take them as you level. :3 Substitute the IO sets with SOs or IOs as you prefer when actually playing, remembering that they probably won't be permanent (unless you start early IO sets at around level 33 onwards, depending on which sets, such as say, Positron's Blast).
The real (and major) difference between levelling builds and respec builds (actually, they're probably better known as "Post-respec builds", but eh) isn't in power choices, but at what levels you picked the powers. -
Quote:That's the same mistake I did, haha.I really should get my head out of making fantasy builds. Every build I have is based on the notion "What if all my toons were sitting on influence cap?" Probably why I have a few really good ones and a lot of unfinished ones.
I agree. I really should try making a few that aren't depending on purples/most expensive sets.
Unless it's a build which really needs purples (like Dominators for super recharge, for example), try to make a non-purple build. Using LotGs is fine because you can easily get them with A-merits nowadays. If you really feel you want to make a purpled-out build, do so, but mark the build with [PURPLE] or something (in mids). I started reworking all my builds for i19 without purples (for the most part), and because of that, I'm actually able to start IOing out my alts now rather than just two of them. -
Ugh, now I want to level up my lowbie BS/DA and BS/Shield scrappers who have been like that since issue 8 and 15, haha.
I blame this thread!
