Quote:Duh, right. Read Ice, read! 4.06 vs 4.32Well, it WILL use more endurance than your current chain (0.26 endurance per second more unslotted, less as slotted). What I meant by endurance efficiency is the amount of damage done per point of endurance. The extra damage will cost you in the neighborhood of running an additional toggle. On the other hand, better to run that chain and simply slow down if necessary than to run a slower chain.
I can deal with that...I think. -
Thanks so much, that's exactly the info I needed. I really can't afford a chain that uses more endurance given my current build so Incinerate -> Cremate -> Fire Sword is just what the doctor ordered.
I may be able to squeeze out another 20% recharge which will save me about 7ish seconds off my hasten downtime. Not sure it'd be worth the 800ish million it will cost me. My rough math says it will gain me about .5 DPS (factoring in the reduced hasten downtime, not the reduced Incinerate time since it's such a small change). -
I'm currently running the Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch chain and it's fine.
I'm wondering if there is a better chain out there given the amount of recharge I have in my build. I've got 70% global + hasten.
The only issue is, w/out changing the flavor of my build (which I don't really want to do as I'd have to give up something major), the chain needs to be a 3 power chain with either Scorch or FS cause I've only got room for 3 single target attacks in my build. The only other attack the chain could use is Fire Blast from the epic. -
I don't have the same endurance issues, but honestly, I don't play pre-SO level much, if at all, anymore. It's hard to say alot more here w/out seeing the builds you are using but one thing I do find interesting is that you brough up tanks and defenders.
They have such poor DPE (combared to say blasters or tanks) that they tend to use up more endurance to do the same damage as blasters and scraps. It sucks for a defender to use a power that 2/3s (or less) as much damage as a blaster but has it cost the same amount of endurance. -
To be clear about my post...I've got a tricked out tank and a tricked out scrapper. Under normal circumstances I'd never have provoke on a scapper. It's just in this case it seems like I can generate some pretty though numbers with DA stacked on top of Invuln and I think it'd be fun to run abound 'tanking' with a scrapper (cause I've already done the 'regular' scrapper & tank (a few times actually) ).
-
I've been kicking around a kat/invul build for a few days now but I'm not 100% sure which direciton I need to do.
What I think I want is this....a very durable scrapper that can use provoke to 'tank' normal type missions and maybe simpleish TFs as well as do reasonable damage in teams. Budget is pretty opoen but I don't really want to invest purplesinto this toon.
To do that I need to go w/out hasten (fighting; tough; leaping; presence) or w/out CJ and go with hasten/SS. In general I really like CJ on scrappers but I'm open to hear arguments and builds w/out it.
What kinda of def should I be shooting for for s/l and exotics? Do I need DA? What will my attack chain look like w/out hasten?
I like doing builds, just trying to figure out which direction I want to go. -
I'm in the same boat as Bill and have scrapped my 2 EM toons as a result.
Even tho, EM ranks high in ST damage on Bill's chart, that's a pretty specific scenario of beating on one thing for an extended period of time (or at least through 1 full attack chain). In general teaming, stuff dies too fast. I can't tell you how many times my target has been killed before my 'stare at my hands for a half hour' ET animation fires.
For general teaming, EM feels like it does mediorce ST damage (since animation lock hurts it in real world ST damage scenarios) and it's AoE damage is sub par.
All that just makes my EM team toon like total garbage on teams now. Broken, prolly not, but for me, just plain unfun.
Edit: Nihilii just reminded me about the other thing I hate, overkill. -
I tend to play on fast moving, somewhat competent teams as well, so that's where I'm coming from. I have 3 level 50 rads and a level 50 cold defender. I haven't played a rad since I found cold.
For me, cold allows me to keep up and support the fast moving team better than rad. The shields and aura are proactive, so I don't waste time during battle to provide the team with mitigation vs. spending 3+ seconds to cast RI.
For me, -dam res keeps teams moving fast as well. With Sleet, I get 1 click -dam res and bonus slow and -recharge I want to keep stuff dying fast. The rest of the time I can blast my brains out.
An when it comes to hard targets, I can stack sleet 2 or 3 times (depending on what buffs I have) as well as add in Heat Loss pushing my -dam res anywhere from 60 to 120 (plus the dump truck of +recovery for my team needed for that hard target). And once I have that -dam res set up, I can also benumb that hard target for more giggles.
Is rad bad, hell no. But Cold fits my playstyle better, and for me, makes the game seem easier and flow better than my rad(s).
The only place I differ in opinion with Nihilii is on frostworks. I don't find the benefit to be worth the amount of time I'd need to spend keeping it on folks. Actually, I did use it a bit leveling, but I don't use it now at 50.
All IMO of course. -
WP workes my layering forms of mitigation, regen, res & def, and even +HP to a degree (really just more regen).
If the baseline for wp/ss is...
regen good
def good
res good
attack good
...your build looks like
regen good
def great
res good
attack - zomg wait 4 days while I clear this -1 x1 mission and then a bit longer for me to NR there!!!
Ok, maybe not that bad but you get the idea. I think you are giving up so, so much to get that extra S/L defense. You're recharge isn't good, your attacks are poorly slotted (for acc, dam and recharge (in KO blow at least). And your goto power, footstomp, is only set up to do basicly half damage. You have no travel. With better slotting in rage, you won't need FA at all (or the hefty end cost).
My will/ss runs around with ~25% s/l and 40% eng/elm and I can handle 99% of the game w/out insps. For that last 1% I use insps or have a team with half a brain. And for that 99% of the game I don't need help with, I get to do much, much, much better damage and move though it much fast and (for me) have more fun.
I'm not saying your build won't, nor am I paying for your account so build what you want. I know I just looked at my build from a different direction, and really enjoy it.
EDIT: FYI...I was looking at your first build....didn't see the 2nd. -
Took a quick stab as I like these kind of puzzles...
This has a bit more damage (6.5%) and a bit more recharge (10%). It also has a little more regen & recovery. The cost is 40 HP and 18% acc (edit: and lots of KB protection, that I don't think you need, right?). You could easily get 9% acc back my moving the miracle heal out of PP and back into a LotG set. We could also get some 20ish HP back by using tit armors in tough (with the extra slot I put in PP used also).
I'm not sure how you felt about your current recovery, regen, HP and acc, and what of those could me eaten up a bit.

thunderstrikes for ranged defense
decimation for +recharge
devistation for +HP & Damage (only needs 4 really)
The sets have other nice stuff in them, but those are the main differences for me.
They are all good, it just depends on what you want. -
I'll put 100 inf on Anderson Silva...oh...uDc....nevermind
.

For me, IOs blew conventional wisdom out the window on these powers.

Hi all -
I'm just back to the game and thinking about trying out Dark Miasma as it's the one defender set I've yet to experience. (I've played a Cold, Sonic, Rad and Emp to 50, and Tarps to 35 on a defender, and Storm, Kin & FF to 50 on a troller - note: I didn't include TA because I just can't deal with re-draw and I'm not really into archer as a blast set). While I'm not a min/maxer by definition, I do like to push my toons to the limit of their effectiveness w/in their given concept. For this concept it's dark <insert some blast here>. Outside of that, I'm open.
Anyway, I understand the Dark Set as a whole, but I'm not quite sure what secondary & epic to pair with it. I can't seem to make that mental leap to see how you could use a secendary to 'enhance' the effects of the primary (aside from the additional -toHit of dark of course). Off the top of my head I'd be comfortable with Sonic, Rad, Psy & Dark blast and maybe elec or energy if a case could be made.
So what dark/secondary/epic combos are fun (and effective) to play?
Edit: I guess with GR around the corner I could do this as a corr as well. -
Quote:Insert Son/Son defender with Clarity here plz
I'd rather have a debuffer or another solid damage dealer myself.
I kinda wish there was more stuff like GW's hold in the game that took some level of teamwork and/or team makeup to do. (Notice I did say more not all - some of what makes CoX great is the ability to chuck a team together and roll. But on some "endgame" stuff, I think that hurts it a bit, but that's just me). -
Played both Talos Vice (338380) and The Paragon Caper (65246). Both were very fun 'cops & robbers' type arcs, although Talos Vice had an extra layer of 80s neon awesome sauce on it.

I'm back to the game on a semi-regular basis again and haven't really looked at my build in some time. This build is a PvE only build and my goal was to keep it as "natural" as possible (i.e. no trowin fiah) and use IO's to raise the overall performance of the build, rather than specialize in one thing. So this build has additional survivability and damage output in it. Overall Im very happy with the build. I have no trouble tanking all the content in the game other than the LR when all the towers are up (need purps and/or a team for that) and am able to output enough DPS to solo basic AVs.
All that said, Im looking for suggestions for things I may have missed.
1) Are there ways to upgrade this build? What did I miss?
2) Ive never really looked at this build since the addition of PP. Can the build be improved by dumping fitness and adding PP and CP? And in that case, what should I add as the 3rd power?
Ive been over this a few times in my head so just looking for additional insight.
Thanks

Quote:Weird....this is exactly what'd I'd say. I love my dam/rng HO's in throw spines.I've had a ranged spines/regen for quite some time now: energy torrent, throw spines, LBE, and impale. Occasionally I'll move her in for a ripper. It's a fun build and the concept I used to build her was a "spines blaster".
There are more optimal spines/regen builds for sure. Builds that take advantage of quills and melee defense for example. However, I haven't had the heart to respec into those or start a second build. As she is now, she's wonderful as a teaming scrapper and I've never failed a TF with her. She solos pretty decently as well, though if I had to compare her with my fire/shield it's no contest. -
Mixing and matching IOs/SOs/HOs from different sets in the same power.

I've been away from the CoX forums for a month or so. Today I think to myself, hrm, what have I been missing? Let me take a quick look.
And then I find this gem.....
CoX forums has been berry berry good to me. -
Quote:Done a few different ones on my WP/SS tank (using the scrapper rules), but it was both slow & boring. I wouldn't call it fun. My build also cost much more than 200 mil.I don't know if any Tanks have soloed AV's- it would seem to me that it would be considerably harder, because Tanks are giving away 20% of their DPS(and DPE) right off the bat. Still, someone has probably done it. Heck, a BLASTER soloed Lord Nemesis and that's a pretty impressive acheivement.
I'd write tanks off right off that bat. -
I like my traps/sonic 100X more than I thought I would. Started it as a lawltarps toon, but really enjoy it now. Lvl 29 and counting.

Quote:Let me ask this a different way...What’s the consensus on a sonic/mental blaster soloing a GM? Would the sonic attacks, the –regen from Drain Psyche and maybe the –dam res from Surveillance or Melt Armor be enough (along with capped ranged def)? I’ve done AV soloing with tanks and scrappers and AV soloing with Tanks, but looking to do something with a squishy and I haven’t leveled a blaster in a really long time.
I'm looking at playing up a new toon and I have 3 options...
Sonic/Mental Blaster
Sonic/Traps Corruptor
Traps/Sonic Corruptor
...at the same time, I'm using GM soloing as the end-goal for this toon. Given that goal, which, if any, of these combos are capable of doing it? Does one of them stand out as being the better option? -
