just an FYI to everyone's that expressed interest, the UDC will go into effect most likely AFTER the Pinnacle Cup Season 1.

The UDC is NOT seasonal. It is open ended so therefore there are no SCHEDULE restraints unless already scheduled by parties involved. The way this works is exactly like boxing/UFC.

Also, we need to discuss what maps SHOULD be used in arena, because obviously, there are HUGE maps.

I was thinking a match map template, meaning these are the only maps that will be used in matches because they are reasonably sized maps for a 2 person match; Cage, Perez Park, Graveyard, and Tech Lab.

If everyone agrees that ANY map should be used, then let's do that. Although I highly think it's interesting playing in the EDEN map with only 2 people. o_O

In my opinion, the office and lab maps are the two most balanced ones for most things.

Posted

I think Huge maps should only be used in special circumstances to keep the matches more action packed. I mean 6 mins of chasing each other around might not be the most entertaining.

Posted

I forgot the office one. Small-Medium maps are best for Duels, in regards to spacing and size.

I want in, 1vs1 I enjoy more than team or FFA

@Neuronia, @Neuronium:
Fiery Kara 50 Rad/Therm/Mako Corr
Coldly Logical Kara 50 Mind/Cold/Primal Controller
Spirit of Kings Row 50 Kat/Regen/think it's Power Mastery Scrapper
Dreadful Avails Spime/SR/think Power Scrapper

How do we decide which toon to bring, do we have to stay on the same toon for all 3 matches, etc.

168760: A Death in the Gish. 3 missions, 1-14. Easy to solo.
Infinity Villains

Yeah, same toon on the match. it's only 1 match per 2 fighters. 3 matches per card. 45 minute total event.

I think any map should be used, possibly set to random so people can't try to gain an advantage.

Besides, it's not WHERE you fight....it's WHO.

No.

I guess I should elaborate.

If you are on a melee toon without Fossilize or Hurl Boulder (say a Katana or Claws or Dark Melee Scrapper) on Altas vs. a Psy or Fire or Sonic Blaster or a Corr, life will be much harder for you.

If this is going to be a duel league with TS and HD off, you're already writing off most melee builds outside maybe Stalkers or /Regen Scrappers or Tankers with range. I haven't got a lot of duelling experience on my belt, but as far as I know the preferred maps are Perez Park, Cargo Ship, Office and Tech Lab. Open maps like Eden are laughable and give a huge advantage to Stalkers (who can just lie at Stealth Cap and pop a few reds then AS or Thunderstrike), range builds with Boost Range, etc. Atlas, Skyway and Steel aren't TOO bad because there are places you can pin people with webnades (the pools in Atlas near the statue, Skyway has the recessed areas with stairs and Steel has corners and such.

On top of all that, the matches are set to...20 minutes, 12 minutes and 10 So you can feasibly just hit Invis for a good portion of the match and just engage at the 10 minute mark or whenever you are ready. Speaking from experience (though I am lolbad) insp loads work best in 10-15 minute tiers, at 30 minutes you have to be more sparing BUT you get the advantage of more Phase/Hiber recharge. Even at the lower tiers with less powers, people slotted with runspeeds/flightspeeds will have a bit more of an advantage.

TLDR:

It's not just about player skill, it's about what ATs are viable as well. Since this is a DUEL Championship, the event orgs should make the event as viable as possible to as many toons/ATs as possible. My suggestions:

Perez Park
Office
Cargo Ship
Tech Lab
Monkey Cage (yeah, yeah, I know...)
Atlas or Skyway or Steel or Outbreak

No Eden for duels thanks.

I'd go for these for the sake of forcing people to fight instead of running around on a big map.

I'm gonna vote against the cage map, but mostly agree with the other ones JK listed. The cage map makes it completely impossible to dodge hurricane, removing strategy from the game and turning it into a rock, paper, scissors match.

I feel like the cargo ship map favors super jumpers, but I'm super speed so I don't think that opinion carries much weight.

None of the maps are perfect (office map pretty small, tech lab makes super jump kind of useless) but office/tech/perez/cargo are the closest you can get.

Office
Tech
Cargo
Graveyard
Perez
Cage

Those are the ones that I would probably vote for. Remember, these maps are the templates to choose from. It must be agreed upon by both parties that are involved in scheduling a fight. Like...when a fighter proposes to fight in Atlantic City instead of Las Vegas, stuff like that. Negotiations are conducted by both parties. The only thing the ruleset does is put in place a template for everyone to have a chance to compete. Barring the insane amount of space other maps have, if the majority will rule that they too should be allowed to be used, then so be it. Because at the end of the day, the ruleset is just a set of guidelines. Stipulations can be put in place if both parties involved in scheduling the fight agree to terms. This then in turns puts the responsibility to the fighters doing the negotiations. Accountability falls on them (parties involved in scheduling the fight).

The only thing that is TRULY enforced is officiating unbiasedness, and sportsmanship code of conduct. Otherwise, the ruleset is just a guideline so that everyone is on the same page. They are all amendable if the majority wants to change a guideline/rule.

See there plenty of room on cage map.. Just move out of cage and it all yours.

I agree with Neuronia completely. The large maps are just wrong for these types of matches. Because yes they favor certain AT's Eden especially a stalker loads up on reds one shots his/her opponent and then hides for the rest of the match. Extremely Frustrating and considering that JK and I would love for folks who may not be interested in participating, to be able to watch the matches and enjoy them. PvP is a blast to play in as well as a blast to watch, which is how I got into pvp in the first place. But if I were to watch a bunch of matches that were just a cheap kill followed by a game of tag it would have turned me off.

And then your opponent goes into the narrow corners around the cage and forces you to enter melee range if you want to be in line of sight.
