Thoughts on this Kat/Invul build.
Your build over all looks good. Some things I would do is try and slot the Achilles' Heel: Chance for Res Debuff into Gambler's Cut. It would help a lot against those with high Lethal resistance. One more thing I would do is drop the Def/end in combat jumping , you don't really need the hit points with dull pain, and add the Kismet: Accuracy.
One more thing I saw, In Divine Avalanche I would Replace the Dam/Rech with the Dam/End/Rech. Divine Avalanche as a fast rech so you don't need a lot of rech in it. the Dam is way in to ED as is so you won't lose much dam. So with this the End of the attack will go down which is always good. I might do the same for Soaring Dargon too but I didn't look at the attack chain to see if you need more Rech in it.
I'm basing my Crushing Impact slotting on level 35s, so I may need the rech in Soaring Dragon. Bronze rolls drop quite a lot of them though, so it can be swapped out if needed.
The Kismet will probably help a lot, however, that leaves me just over the HP cap (I'm factoring in Freedom Phalanx Reserve and Portal Jockey, but not Task Force Commander, and using level 35 Doctored Wounds), so I'm not sure where to pull the slot from for the Achilles Heel....the Numina's Heal/End would have been my first choice, but that puts me under the HP cap, and I lose a bit of regen...might have to just account for level 50 Doctored Wounds, since I'm just squeaking by on the recharge front as well.
Edit: And if I end up with enough inf to swap out the Crushing Impact in Soaring Dragon for a Hecatomb, that will put me under the HP cap.
Edit Again: Hmm....pull the 6th slot out of Golden Dragonfly for the Achilles Heel, slot GD like Flashing Steel (which now that I think about it I really should use the Obliteration quad), back to the HP cap and I'd only lose 1.25 Energy/neg defense....

Capped like that, why even take Divine Avalanche? It's damage sucks.
It's my bestest, bestest pal, but that's because my S/L is around 12, ENFC just under 40.

I've been kicking around a kat/invul build for a few days now but I'm not 100% sure which direciton I need to do.
What I think I want is this....a very durable scrapper that can use provoke to 'tank' normal type missions and maybe simpleish TFs as well as do reasonable damage in teams. Budget is pretty opoen but I don't really want to invest purplesinto this toon.
To do that I need to go w/out hasten (fighting; tough; leaping; presence) or w/out CJ and go with hasten/SS. In general I really like CJ on scrappers but I'm open to hear arguments and builds w/out it.
What kinda of def should I be shooting for for s/l and exotics? Do I need DA? What will my attack chain look like w/out hasten?
I like doing builds, just trying to figure out which direction I want to go.
Presence bad. [roll a tank]
CJ good.
Hasten good. [in general, but we're talking katana here]
SS good, and put a Celerity +Stealth in it.
YOU NEED DA.
DA!
Your attack chain will look slower w/o hasten. That said, I never took it on my katana, she's fast enough as it is.
To build for S/L you'll pay though the nose. But you'll likely not cap positional, or at least melee and ranged. Getting your ENFC high is easy enough. That said, with DA you will not get hit. Certain enemy factions, like Council, become a huge joke. I carry a Good Luck in every insp slot I have to get me started before that first DA hit. And if there's a bubbler around, hoo, the bubs make katana life easy.
Seems like I'm a tad bit late coming back from a break. Anyways, Kat/Invul is always something I'm ready to help with! After playing my main (obviously Kat/Invul) for about five years, I've come to the point where I can't really bother to improve his build anymore because he does everything I wanted him to do with it and then more. Your build looks good to me, except for one thing: sustainability. My build runs out of endurance on average at Conserve Power recharge intervals, which works out to basically infinite endurance. I have to slow down on the attacks, though, if I get unlucky and get an awfully small number of PS procs happening during a long fight. Then again, if you aren't planning to solo AVs or do anything like that I think you should be well off with that build! You have solid defenses and good DPS, but I would still try to get an Achilles proc into GC, it bumps up your DPS by quite a bit.
My build is probably different in terms of what I'm thinking to do with it, but it works too :P, I can do good ST damage (I think around 175 DPS against a Pylon?) as well as decent AoE damage (as decent as it gets with Katana), but top thing is the survivability of this build. Nearly 70% S/L Resistance with 20% exotic Resistances is nothing short of good when you have 36% F/C/E/N Def with one person in melee and always soft capped Lethal Def when in combat. The more enemies you have in melee range, the closer you will get to soft capped F/C/E/N, which you will reach at 9 enemies. And usually it's not needed before. I soloed three AVs simultaneously with only one minion working as Invincibility booster, and could do it without chewing insps.
So, what can this build do?
Soloing an AV? Check.
Soloing multiple AVs at once? Check.
Soloing missions at +1/8 or +2/8? Check. Have to admit, though, that some of the more problematic enemy groups are still... Well, problematic at times.
Still space for buffs? Check. I think this is quite important so that I can keep on chewing insps or take team buffs without them being a waste.
The build is very expensive, so you might have to peel off some of the more expensive parts like purples or the PvP IO.

If you haven't tried it, don't hate. It's actually quite enjoyable since it's active mitigation.

Hm, I do think Presence is quite bad for Scrappers. I used to have it on my MA/Regen back when I still played him. The concept seemed awesome, stop enemies from attacking me so that I have time to regenerate. Sadly it just didn't really work as well as I imagined, and I ended up going back to Fighting for more protection.

I definitely agree. I did it as well on my kat/regen before I used fighting. it doesn't seem to work too well without an IO set (end cost is too high, recharge is too long, accuracy is too low, etc), but honestly, adding another click to a regen set isn't that good of an idea :P
That's the general problem with presence anyway. The only people who really use it are MMs, and they just get provoke. Very few times have I actually seen anyone go all the way to invoke panic

DSorrow: I'm not planning on soloing AVs with this character; maybe one or two to see if I can, but I'm not going to make a habit of it. I've managed to squeeze in the Achilles Heel at the cost of 1.25% Energy/Neg def...because I thought about my Katana/Dark, then I thought about Zeus Titans, then about my AR and DB toons, then back to the Zeus Titans....and the -res wins.
And I didn't even think about the Winter's Gift IO, I'm so used to putting BotZs in Super Jump...I'll be getting one of those, thanks for the idea.

The Achilles' Heel is a really good investment. In a spammable attack like GC you can easily keep it up 50% of the time, which means 10% extra damage on average. For one slot. Not too bad!

I'm looking to create a solid leveling build that will still hold up on high difficulties in the endgame; basically an all-around versatile, survivable character that kills at a decent rate. I'm using this character to run AE missions (not farms) so debuffs do come into play quite frequently.
Thoughts, suggestions, changes? I do not want to take Aid Self or skip Flashing Steel. I also don't want to rely on purples for perma Dull Pain, so I didn't use them in this build.
