Actually going with GG's Crisis zone idea, which they could possibly use the maps from the upcoming Apex TF for, they could create pocket zones like in laster years Winter Event, that could be accessed from any point you'd go to the normal zone, sort like they do now when zones are too full. You go to Pocket D 1 or Pocket D 2.

They could do it so when you go from the door of IP into Steel, you get the option for "Steel Canyon" or "Steel Canyon: Crisis" Or something like that. So it'd be just like going to another zone, you wouldn't need to do it from the train, you could do it from any zone, Ouro, RWZ, Train, Direct Zone connection etc.
  2. I like the wrenches on that cape, you leave those alone, it gives the cap a great feel.
  3. I looked these over briefly last night. I have to admit I was rolling my eyes when this pack was announced, it seemed like another "small" pack, sort of like the Party Pack, and I was not a fan of the idea of yet another small pack that could have been folded into something else.

However the video got me interested but it doesn't nearly do this stuff justice.

The capes are fantastic looking, easily the best in the game so far. And the Auras.... Wow. Those auras, also the best in the game so far IMO. I think every aura except leaves jumped out at me as being insanely appropriate for 2 or more of my alts. And leaves, well it's not appropriate for any current chars, but I'll be making one that it'll work for.

Great pack guys, these pieces and auras are gorgeous

  5. So... We got zombie events, Rikti, Deadly Apocolypse. It occurs to me that with the upcoming Praetorian invasion, it'd be cool to have Praetorian invasion events, like Rikti etc. Portals could open up in zones, praetoria IDF, ClockWork, War Works, War walkers etc could come pouring out for people to fight!

Not sure if it is going to be a part if I19 but it should be!

Going Rogue did a good job of advertising. Seemed everywhere I went I kept seeing the ads. I'd known COH had been around for years but was too busy with other MMORPG's to give it a chance. GR came out at just the right time for me.

So I'm as green as Kermit but plan on staying a long time.
Welcome! I'm sure you already know but this is a great community. If you have questions there will be no shortage of people to help you out I'm sure!

I'm always glad to see new blood coming to the game. Not only does it encourage me for the game's future, but I remember it being so neat when I first joined, when ever thing was new, when I had so many questions about everything. Some times teaming with people who are new to the game some how makes me see it with fresh eyes.

BTW thank you all for the responses, definitely some fun stories there, keep em coming! I'm very curious as to how people found this game and have been enjoying it over the years, obviously I'm not even close to the only one.
  7. My main is the only one who got it right the first time.. Sort of. Her basic look hasn't changed, but two pieces I wanted I didn't have access too the first time I made her. Shoulder capes and Tanker style tights for female.

I wanted both on her from the beginning but they weren't in the game yet. So yes, I got her right the first time in concept, but the game didn't let me do it!

All my other 30 some odd alts have had more costume changes than I can think of. I've probably spent billions and hundreds of costume change tokens to boot.
Ohh and my mains other 4 costumes have been changed more than I can remember too.
  8. I'm actually really enjoying this show, i think it's rather funny and has potential to grow if they do it right.

Anyone catch last night's episode Bolloween? If so can anyone tell me who sang that rendition of "she's gone" at the end?
  9. Go @Curupira, you got this, beat that tumor!

Tell @Curupira, that we all want her to get better as fast as humanly, (Or meta-humanly) possible.

Let her know too that there is at least one person who would join her for a team when she gets back.

When she's ready we'll run her favorite TF\SF!

Just haver her sent a tell to @Ice_Wall and we'll have some fun!

What's with the vader thing? he wasn't originally supposed to be Luke's dad? Ohh wait, Obi-Wan was right? I think I heard that some where... Know where I can find proof of that, I'd love to see it myself.

For the Trilogy of Trilogies thing... I know I saw an interview with Lucas when I was like 5 or 6, and he said then there were supposed to be NINE star wars movies. The 3 that were already out were the middle 3, there would be 3 before and 3 after. I remember it because I went to my friends house, a neighbor on my street, and when I told him I remember his mom stating flatly, "No, you're wrong, there are only ever going to be 3 star wars movies..." (I kind of wish I still knew her so I could tell her to shove it, but what can I say, old grudges die hard.)

Still I KNOW I saw that some where. I've never been able to find that clip, but it's good to know other people saw it too.

Lucas claims he never said it, but I'm pretty sure in addition to that interview, he said it to a magazine in an article, so there is a written piece of evidence that he's lying about it.

Lucas has a history of saying one thing, later deciding he didn't mean it, and changing his mind then acting like everyone should pretend it didn't happen. Honestly, I wish he'd grow a pair and just say "Yeah, I said that but I've changed my mind now." Or "Yeah, that was in some of the original movies, but it wasn't supposed to be."

This whole "hey, I know you saw that, other people did, and you have vivid memories of it and the events surrounding it, but it didn't happen, your on drugs", It's insulting to those of us with a brain.

This seems to have been done intentionally in both shows. The term thrown around from the onset was "more character driven" shows. Seems the folks over at SyFy feel "character driven" stories require a collection of ********.
I disagree on the SGU front. (Admittedly I never watched Caprica so I have no idea about that.)

Everett and Rush aren't "Bad guys." They are just very flawed guys. The both have good intentions, both are trying to make the best of bad situations, their both just in over their heads and have a number of vices making them do less than perfect things all the time.

Honestly I think SGU is doing a good job. It' is character driven, the characters just aren't as 2-Dimensional as the characters in SG-1. They aren't all completely good and heroic. But I like that.

Can't comment about Caprica though, never saw it...
  12. Maybe this will force them to work on quality instead of just a bunch of crazy effects.

Ghost Rider was one of those movies where I felt like they were so busy trying to blow everyone away with visuals, they forgot to include the movie.

    5 Years later...

October 10th, 2005. That was the day I first stepped foot into Paragon City. How I got there is sort of a funny story, (at least to me.)

June 2004 I moved out of my parent's house for the first time into a house with 3 of my friends, all of whom were gamers. I had a good chunk of money saved up and moving out into a bachelor pad, I spent a good deal of money on new games, a new XBox etc.

While I was going on my shopping spree I decided I wanted to try an MMO. Being the Star Wars nut that I was looking to by the Star Wars MMO. However when I got to the store, the newly released CoH box caught my eye. I picked it up, glanced it over and the clerk at the store started telling me about it.

Everything about it hit me right, the box, the art, the screen shots on the back, the concept. The idea of building my own Super Hero and running around with other people's super heros? It was fantastic. But I was set on that Star Wars MMO and so I got it.

I was bored with it in 2 weeks , gave up on MMOs. But some things are meant to be.

A year and a few months later I was settled into a new apartment and I was in a game store and a Pre-order box caught my Eye. City of Villains! I was instantly intrigued and while City of Heroes had me within seconds of changing my mind and buying it instead of that other game, the idea of making my own villain was too much to pass up!

Still I wanted to make sure I'd like the game so I went home and downloaded CoH from Direct2 Drive. I figured I'd spend the 30 dollars, see if I liked it then I would get CoV if I did.

It was a nice, gray, rainy late afternoon and I remember in the install screens, loving the art that popped up with the Archetypes on it. Blaster, Scrapper, Tanker. It was so colorful and heroic looking, I was enamored before it was installed.

At the main menu, that heroic music, the blue back ground, it drew me in and in moments I was going nuts on the costume creator. Then I made my first character. A stone\Mace Tanker. I headed into the tutorial and even then I was blown away. So much better than that other game. I could leap chain link fences in a single bound, I could walk right up to Infected and bash them with my mace. No clunky menus in the game, everything was simple and easy to navigate. No steep learning curve, I was already fighting baddies!

The Stone tanker didn't last long. I deleted him after the tutorial. I wasn't crazy about the look and feel of it, but I had seemingly endless things to try. All the different ATs and primary and secondary powers options, I wanted to try them all!

My next character was an assault rifle blaster. I figured why not have some bad *** blonde chick with a big gun? I was pretty much still playing around with things at that point, not knowing that anything I did would stick. I was level 6, running around Galaxy city shooting stuff eagerly working towards my next power pick and I saw it, some one was FLYING through the zone! I've always wanted to fly, and then and there, 30 minutes into the game I was hooked. The

That blaster has become my Main character. 5 years later she has 929 badges and counting. She's run every TF in the game except the Mender Silos TF. She has fought every GM, run all the event missions and I've loved every minute of playing her and building her up with Orange and purple Sets. Eagerly awaiting incarnate content for her!

5 Years later, billions in influence earned and spent, 12 50s, 30 alts, countless costumes, 14 issues and counting, 2 hero cons and I just got my 60 month vet badge the other day.

The Irony of it all? I got the game to see if I'd like it enough to get City of Villains when it released. I got City of Villains the first day it was out, but I never liked redside as much as blueside. I've always found that funny since I bought the game to make my own villain. But I have a number of them too.

So it's been a hell of a ride and though I've taken my breaks from the game and the forum I've kept my account active for the most part, I never liked the idea of not being able to sign in the moment I decide to play. I've been here since issue 5 and the way the game has grown has boggled my mind. My girlfriend of 4 years now plays with me on a semi regular basis with her own account.

I remember the first week I played I had so many questions. It took me a few days to figure out what LFT meant, but one of the things I was always impressed about was the other players in this game. When I was first learning every little while I'd put some question in broadcast and get 20 answers back giving me all the info I'd need. Any time I was on a team everyone was helpful and welcoming and with very few people causing problems. And all the super hero puns! So much fun. That's never changed, even now that I'm more Jaded and a bit of a "know it all" (Stubbornly so at times.) I find people are still friendly, helpful and it's a great bunch, here on the forums and in the game. It's been a ton of fun and I'm hoping for 5 more years!

Seriously, thank you Players, Forumites and especially to the Development and OCR teams, it's been a great time playing this game. What a hobby\past time to have, and what a great community to share it with!

Forgive the long rambling nature of this post, I'm writing it kind of late and just sort of reminiscing and looking back on it all.

Anywho, that's my story, anyone else got fun stories to share about how they got into this game and what got them hooked?

Seriously, these are awesome. I don't know about coconut or banana flavored soda, but I'd buy them and have collectors cans, something I've never done, but I'd do it for these.

I don't like black licorice, but it's Ghost Widow on the label, I'd buy a 12 back, choke down 11, and keep the last one as a collectors can. The idea is fantastic.

The other flavors all sound delicious, can we get a diet variety for those of us trying to watch our not-so-girlish figures?
  15. Umm... Wow. I was speculating on the story for I19 and I20 and how the I think the Devs will use the invasion as an excuse to give the buildings in the game a face lift and remove the war walls.

How did this devolve into a discussion on the Signed NDA?

Honestly, I think the Signed NDA, had to do with the fact that they had people in a room, and said "hey, while there here, we can just have them sign something."

So people who support the super booster's are morons? That's certainly a good way to improve the community, insulting a large chunk of it.

Here's the thing. Super Boosters happened because they cost money. We would not have gotten The cyborg parts, the magic parts, the ninja parts, the mutant parts, not to mention reading fortunes, ninja run and all those other goodies, if they were free. It wouldn't have happened.

The Devs didn't make these things and say hey, this is neat, slap a price tag on it because we are greedy and we want all that extra money. That's not how it works, though people love to act as though this is the case.

What likely happened was some one said: "Gee, wouldn't it be neat if we had X costume pieces in the game?" Then they realize that there isn't any extra time or money to do that and continue pushing free issues, new systems and new content, until some one realizes they can justify putting in the EXTRA stuff, if they make it as an add on, they can charge money for it, and not only does it justify now spending extra time and money to make something that doesn't relate to the issues. But it also gives them a bit of extra revenue to spend on the issues etc.

So, sometimes people see a suggestion for a costume piece or pieces and they might think, "Great idea, but the devs would probably not have time to do this any time soon as part of an issue. However, I'd be willing to pay a little extra for these options, and that might give the Devs the needed justification to do it, so let's suggest a super booster pack."

So, people who support super boosters are not "morons" we are realists who understand that Paragon Studios is a business. Their job is to make money, not to break the bank and go out of business trying to give us everything under the sun for free.

The Super Boosters would not have happened without an extra price tag. Maybe we would have gotten some of the things, but probably not all of them and probably not the cool things like Fortune, and ninja run and costume change emotes. And by the way ,costume change emotes and walk, both got into the game FOR FREE because they could justify spending the money to do them, for the super boosters.

One last thing, super boosters cost 10$ total. Less than a months subscription and they last more than a month. If they release 2 a year, as they more or less have been, its an extra 20 dollars a year. It's like paying for a 13th month and getting sorts of goodies for doing it. It's not that people are morons who are eager to get rid of their money, it's like people are paying an extra $1.65 to have the fun stuff they wouldn't other wise get. So climb down off your high horse and quit whining.
  17. I spent 15 minutes testing this in peregrine.

My very first door click, I got the tip mission. Love the jack-o-lantern art for the tip contact by the way.

Got into mission no problem. The dialogue for the mission was cool, having the malleus mundi in play again is fun, and fitting for Holloween.

I loved the mission map. Having the CoT merging parts of Orenbaga with parts of the Praetorian Underground was actually pretty cool, nice etc. No real issues here, it all worked and made it feel unique.

Beat the mission no problem, Last boss wasn't too tough, not too easy.

No reward table, though others have pointed this out, so nothing new.

Then trick or treated a few times after I beat the mission.

    Got temporary costumes.

    Got Costume Salvage.

    Got Bad guys...

As far as I can tell, everything outside the reward table is working nicely. Glad to see the new tip mission system getting used outside of just switching alignments. Can't wait til it hits live!

Sure, but I'm not suggestion that War Walls and graphics updates to the buildings in Paragon and Rogue Isles is the only thing I20 is going to contain...
  20. So I don't know if you guys remember the Seattle PAX event from just after GR launched. I wasn't there personally but I read the write up that was posted on Newsarama.com, linked in the news bulletin on the front page of CoH.com

    Link here: http://www.newsarama.com/games/city-...ax-100907.html

A couple things in that write up caught my eye when I first read it...

    Quote:
Q: A graphical update to the old zones to match the look of the new ones?
A: A plan is in place to refit the old bulidings, and there is a mission map update coming.
    And...
    Quote:
Q: Will the old War Walls finally come down
A: Their continued existence Is a bit of a running joke, but its being worked on.
Now with the new I19: Alpha Strike information, we know that Cole and his army will be invading in the next issue, and the TF is there to stop him...

The Devs have been hinting that I20 is going to be the next BIG issue. I think that in I20, we will see the refit to new buildings, war walls coming down and it will be explained in game as resulting from the invasion. When Cole invades buildings will have to be rebuilt, remodeled etc and perhaps he will just knock down the War Walls himself, or we will have to do it to allow the Heroes of Paragon to respond to the incoming invasion faster...

Still, clever idea devs! Good Show!
  21. The old positron TF was pretty popular on virtue too. Not like it is now, but I used to see calls for the old, crappy posi on a daily basis.

A lot of that has to do with the level of the TF etc, but now with the new ones, add to the popularity of the old one, that the new one has all sorts of new maps, new content etc, you get a very popular TF.

Now they need to redo the Phalanx TFs, though even those are pretty popular these days..

Another thing to keep in mind is server population, I see virtue in the red a lot these days, more people means more of these things are going to be going off.

I can kind of see how one might make that argument, or even think that.

As it is, we aren't really losing slots. However we are gaining 3 power slots, and no enhancement slots to go with them.

All of my toons have the fitness pool, it's just a given. I think of my 12 50s, only one is getting any sort of respec out of this, since the others, I like their builds fine. But also, I wont need 3 extra powers that I can't slot.

It will be very nice for my new toons though. Since thats 3 less things to worry about on the road from 1-20. So I'm excited for that, a couple of my lowbies might get respecs since they are still early in their build. It's a nice thing to be certain, but since they are essentially giving people who use fitness, 3 extra powers and no slots, it's not that huge a deal.

It's nice, but it's not really worth any sort of argument...*

*= That said, I did sort of have a bad knee jerk reaction to this becoming inherent when I first found out. So I don't begrudge other the same. But when presented with all the facts, it's really not a big deal IMO.
  24. IF Chris Bruce is laid off... There's only 1 thing I have to say on the matter..

    BOOOO!
  25. Alright.

    What we know so far.

The Ghost Writer from Ouroborus and other places has predicted a coming storm. And threatened Ouroborus itself with annihilation.

We know that Cole pushed back the Devouring Earth that went nutzoid in Praetoria. Cole defeated the Hamidon there, and established his city safe from the rampant DE threat.

At the end of the I:18 content from the new arcs for Tina and Maria, and the Praetorian Arcs. Cole is set to launch an invasion of Primal Earth, viewing Primal Earth as needing Saving.

This appears to be the "coming storm" foretold in the letters and by the Ouroborus Menders.

    What we know about I19.

There will be a new, High level Co-Op Task force to lead into the Alpha Incarnate stuff.

There will be the beginning of Cole's Invasion.

Ouroborus is under attack , and from the other screen shots, so is KR. Since thats the Police HQ in the back ground, looking the worse for wear.

    Rampant Speculation

Cole's invasion is the coming storm and that's apparently something Ouroborus is fighting against.

Cole has intel in Primal Earth and he'd have to see Ouroborus, with it's time-line altering abilities as a threat.

My guess... Cole is the one writing the letter's, he's been trying to incite heroes in primal earth not to trust Ouroborus. He sees them as a threat to his plan and he is going to make it his primary target.

In the pictures there are tentacles. BIG Tentacles. They don't look familiar, they don't look like Lusca or the Hydra.

So I'm thinking Cole attacks Ouroborus.... With PRAETORIAN HAMIDON!

    Think about it....

We know he beat it, he could have captured it. (In fact I think some of the Praeotorian Arcs alluded to them having the Hamidon creature in captivity some where.)

And the Going Rogue site, in Cole's bio, goes out of it's way to state that Praetorian Hamidon has claws and tentacles. Which I always thought was a weird detail to throw in, if they didn't plan on using it.

Cole Attacks Ouroborus by unleashing the Praetorian Hamidon he captured, all over it.

And we get to fight it! It would certainly be worthy of Incarnate level heroes, and an EPIC fight...

    /End Speculation.

Edit: I see a Giant crystal DE monster there in Ouroborus as well. That DE presance makes me think even more,, Praetorian Hamidon VS Ouroborus...
