    Few questions

    [ QUOTE ]
i have been trying missions and it is SO HARD! i though this game was for little kids lol! should i just kill random mobs in atlas city to level up?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It shouldn't be that difficult at your current level. Can you tell us what Archetype (Blaster, Tank, etc) you are and what powersets you have? Also, what is or isn't happening that makes them so hard? Are you missing a whole lot?
  2. PVP recipes stopped dropping with i15 as a bug. That bug is resolved in a Patch put on Test Tuesday...but also included anti-farming techniques that will reduce some of the PVP recipe supply on the market.

There basically *are* no PVP recipes or crafted enh on the villain side Market right now. Between speculators and people rushing to complete Sets at what will be the lowest price for some time, they've been hoovered up in the last two days.

Hence, he's asking around to try and get some moving which aren't on the Market.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
The danger of an AE farm for a new players is that they emerge (after several repetitive boring grinds facing the same wimpy enemies on the same wide-open map) with several new levels and powers, but no experience in applying them to a variety of challenging opponents.

    [/ QUOTE ]
And since this has been brought up, it's also obvious to people teaming with someone who does this (or even just looking at their Badge list) that they don't know what they are doing. They may not say anything, but it's readily apparent. Being a new player is no bad thing in this game, and is even welcomed (as you've seen here). Being a player who exploited their way to high level and then becomes a burden to their current team is far less tolerated...

while your here babs lets get some reflections on the issues on the pvp drops please. put a bug in who evers ears needed to give us a little more information. pretty please?

    [/ QUOTE ]
With the reserve, rationality, and regular politeness expressed in this thread, I can't imagine why they wouldn't do this.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I don't mind a learning curve at all, i've been playing mmo's for close to 10 years now so I think I'll be able to figure things out. As for now, I think i'm going to play around with a fire/energy blaster. The knockback from the energy is really fun to start off with.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Oh, one thing to know about this game if you are coming in from other MMOs: this game starts at 1, not at 50 (max level). Because of the Exemplar/Malefactor/Side-Kick/Lackey system, the automatic scaling of mission instnances, and Ouroboros you are not required to race through the levels to the cap in order to play with friends. The main content of the game isn't put there as a "time sink" speed bump to keep you on an account for longer. The game is designed around a "casual" business model where you are intended to like the content for itself and keep an account active because you enjoy the recreation. Enjoy the game as you go along and take as much time as you like.

On knockback: it can be a good damage mitigation method, but can also be disruptive on teams. Beware of knocking enemies into other spawns or knocking a mob away from a meleer and forcing them to "chase" their food.

    New Stuff

    [ QUOTE ]
I would say an i7-920 quad core, 6GB of DDR3 and a pair of GTX 285s to start with.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Does this mean something has changed your opinion on multiple graphics cards?
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Well I originally started in 2006 I guess it was but I never made it past lvl 14 so I still kind of consider myself new to the game. Thanks for the suggestions though. I was thinking corruptor/blaster because I like ranged but i'll check out the scrappers and brutes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'll also say that any AT can solo successfully.

If you want to play with lots of AoE, a Blaster or Corruptor will get you that playstyle more easily than a Brute or Scrapper. However, if new to the game you can end up attracting more attention than you can handle with an AoEing non-melee AT. That doesn't mean you should avoid the ranged ATs, it just means the learning curve may be slightly higher.

Don't be afraid to experiment with powersets and builds at all. There are no cookie-cutter builds in this game. Two players can have the same AT and powersets, but radically different power/slotting choices and playstyles; both of them viable. However that also means there are lots of quirks and non-obvious power uses/combinations that you're only going to find with time. If you power-level a character, you'll miss that kind of experience and it will be obvious to other people that you have as well. So don't do it .

    Welcome to the Game .
  8. [ QUOTE ]
There's no notes concerning the Barracuda Strike Force final encounter.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    It's under Masterminds.

    And Happy Birthday.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
LOL, I can't imagine no one bugged that STF bug.

Methinks BaBs may have been out of the loop on it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Right. Just like there are certainly plenty of people on Test to look at this new patch and make sure it's all working right.

Except there were a total of two people in Beta Testers when I logged off just now...

Always /bug something when you see it rather than presume someone else has done it. They might know about the STF bug and have it in the queue, or everyone might have left it to someone else.

    Easy AV?

    [ QUOTE ]
    DM/SR brute lvl 42

    [/ QUOTE ]
During the Beta of Powerset Proliferation I took a DM/SR Brute against Mirror Spirit, Foreshadow, Malaise, and Ice Mistral (3x) as AVs. I beat them all without Temps or Insps (except for Breakfrees in Malaise's case and I ran out of those before the fight ended; looong fight). I had a Steadfast Protection +3% Def IO, a Miracle +Recovery, and some Crushing Impact Sets in my attacks, but other than that I wasn't kitted-out.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
    V_FreedomPhalanx.Back Alley Brawler.Knockout Blow: 20% accuracy bonus on top of the 30-50% bonus he gets for being an EB or AV class critter and the 0-50% bonus for difference in level. (And those are multiplied, so if he's a Hero that's +5 to you, it's 1.2 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 2.7, not 1.0 + 0.2 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 2.2)
    Entities autohit: None

    [/ QUOTE ]
Translation: he had an irreducible 13.5% chance to hit you and you got really unlucky.
  12. It sounds like you made a separate account instead of just upgrading your Trial. If you upgrade the Trial your Trial characters are still playable.

Characters don't get deleted after X time around here. If they are below level 6 and the owner's account has been in-active for a time the names become available again, but the characters themselves won't be deleted.

Did you UPGRADE or ADD a to your PlayNC account?
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Frost is correct, but I don't think anyone is worried about what Superman would do with a nuke. It's more like, would you give a nuke to Wolverine? The Tick? Deadpool? They're all heroes, but possibly none to be trusted with nuclear weapons.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Frank Castle .
  14. What gets me is that Aett_Thorn didn't make even a single one of the responding posts.
  15. Oh one other thing: since your last time in-game dates back to '05, you might need to read up on Enhancement Diversification's system of diminishing returns. On the face of it, this will look like a nerf. But the introduction of Invention Set Enhancements has completely blown away the performance of pre-ED builds in every respect.

You can do a Tutorial for basic Inventions at the University (Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable) from lv10+.

Someone else also mentioned Real Numbers being in the game now. They're kind of hidden, but if you click open your Powers tab and then click Combat Attributes, you can get a list of all character attributes and their current values.
  16. You might get better responses to this question asking it in the Technical Issues & Bugs section. Read the common solutions sticky before posting.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
So let me ask this - lets say I was in this situation, I dinged to 10 (combat) but didnt train... could I continue to earn XP and not 'outlevel' my contacts (that have a cap of level 9)?

I always hear that people 'turn off XP' to not outlevel their contacts... so which level do contacts run off of? Both or just one?

This game is more complex than first meets the eye for sure.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just turn it off at x4 and x9 to be sure.

I've never tried it myself, but from things I've heard of other people doing I believe you can still talk to a contact at Character lv9/Combat lv10, but you will lose all access period at Combat lv11 even if you haven't trained.
  18. And the Mids Hero Designer program he referred to is here. Highly recommended that you use this.

At lv25+ you can also get to Ouroboros where you can go "back in time" and do any Story Arc for the game lower than your current level tier; whether you've already done that story arc/contact or not.

Also, you will have "Detective" contacts in your contact tab. Go talk to one of those to get a Police Scanner. The Scanner will give you infinitely repeatable missions for your level tier. Doing a set number of scanner-missions will give you access to a Safeguard mission. This is where you go to an instanced sub-zone and try to prevent a villain from the Rogue Isles rob a bank. There are also side missions where you can get nice enh drops, temp powers, and badges. If you complete a given Safeguard map for the first time you are given some sort of useful Temp Power/Buff and the Detective will introduce you to a new Contact. The temp powers you get for the 5-9 and 10-14 Safeguards are a Jet Pack 2hr flight temp power and a Super Jump 2hr jump temp power.

There are two co-op zones now that open up at lv35+: Rikit War Zone and Cimerrora. You can use Pocket-D (on your map in three zones), The Midnighter Club (unlocked in Steel Canyon), Ouroboros (lv25+ from anywhere but PVP zones), and RWZ (lv35+) as travel hubs to get you around faster.

You've pretty much outleveled the arcs now (they start at lv15 and go to 25), but if you start another character I highly recommend checking out the revamped Faultline zone. It has some of the better story that's exclusive to hero-side. Or you could just got back and do it in Ouroboros; start with the Jim Temblor story arc.

    Welcome Back .
  19. Also download and install Mids Hero Designer to see what you can slot where and what actual effects it will have on the rest of your character.
  20. Your Combat Level and your Character Level are two different things. Your Combat Level goes up as soon as you Ding. Your Character Level goes up when you Train.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I have one mission in my list - its the first step for Borcor (Sea Witch) and that's it. And my XP is off, but technically these are listed on Paragon Wiki as 5-9 contacts (I am lvl10) But here's what happened. I got my second bank mission but failed it. Went back to Micky the Ear and he let me choose a second contact... I chose Billie. Went to him and he greeted me but said "I got nothin' for you ya - bother someone else. He's listed as an inactive contact.

I think I've outlevelled him even though I am exactly the same level as when Micky gave me Bocor as a contact. Odd. Oh well. Looks like I have to wait till 25...

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Yup.

Did you perhaps Train up to 10 only after talking to Mr Bocor?
  22. You can probably get the best answers to your questions by going to the Bases section of the forums.
