The original mez protect inspirations are still in the game, and had to be used before being mezzed:

    Discipline
Strength of Will (still available in Siren's Call)
    Iron Will

They were later swapped out for some new versions that could be used while mezzed:

    Resolve
    Determination
    Sheer Willpower

Those three still exist, but they got an aesthetic makeover and became the Break Free, Emerge and Escape that we have today.

It's kinda hidden a few posts ago, but I mentioned my current petless project is Necro/Time. Dark Blast is certainly available to Defenders and Corruptors, so there's at least one reason other than concept. (-:

I just want to weigh in on this one... Every single conversation about petless Masterminds is immediately saturated with "good luck finding a team," but I can say through experience that being rejected from teams for this reason simply doesn't happen. Similar to how only a rare few people in-game will tell you it's a bad idea, people just don't care if you're running without pets. I've even had someone insist I was PLing them with mine when I demonstrated it, which means they thought my "terrible and uninvitable" build was better than their own.

Roll a character on Virtue and I'll let you watch with your own eyes. When will you be available?

Threads like this keep appearing. Have you noticed? One or two a year, but they keep showing up. Someone thinks about running a Mastermind with no pets, then makes a thread about it. No one makes threads about armorless Tankers or control-only Dominators. Ever notice that? Seems a bit incongruous... I mean, if you're gonna gimp, why go for one specific, particular gimp? Apples to apples, right? A petless Mastermind is the same as a ranged-only Scrapper, but why is it the only gimp people ever consider doing?

Think on that for a bit. There is a reason people find petless Masterminds appealing. So much so that it makes them worthwhile to play. If you're just looking at damage/attacks/buffs/HP, you're never going to see it.

Also, as an aside, Dual Pistols and Poison weren't available to Corruptors when I made that character.
  7. I'm flying back home tomorrow, so I'll get a video set up showcasing the character in its current form. It's on Virtue if anyone wants to head in-game and see it today, though.

I'm going to be perfectly blunt here: no amount of pics or videos will change your mind. Under no circumstances will you decide, "Hey, I guess I was wrong. Petless Masterminds can be done after all." That said, I do have some media from long ago, but this was before I completed all of its purples and Incarnate Abilities, so I'm sure you'll find something to complain about.

In February of 2010, I made a video. It has no purples and no Incarnate Abilities:

In August of 2011, I took a bunch of spectators into AE to showcase fighting against Romulus Augustus. By the looks of this picture, I still had Antidote and Elixir of Life in the build. O-: I took those out ages ago.

According to an account at the time, it took me 1 minute and 3 seconds to bring Rommy down.

When Enhancement Converters became available, I was able to finish slotting up all the purples I'd selected for the build.

Been there, done that. The response is still "lol petless mm", which means haters gonna hate. I don't approach that particular problem with hopeful aspirations of changing any minds.

Funny thing is, I've never, EVER, had anyone dismiss the idea in-game. Only people on the forums have ever been nay-sayers.
  10. I'm the resident expert on petless Masterminds!

Buffing the damage of the attacks yields less of a return than stuffing a bunch of damage procs on the build. You can cram four of the things into Brawl and get a greater return for each one than you would with a damage IO... At least, that's how it was with the old flat-rate procs. I haven't run the numbers for the I24 changes yet. Boxing is another good candidate for its low damage and fast cast cycle.

Although the powers that focus on protection are limited for Masterminds, the Archetype happens to have the same protection scalars as Tanker, meaning +Res and +Def toggle shields work better on Mastermind (and Tanker) than any other Archetype. Between Tough and, say, Shark Skin, you can get a good 66-70% resistance to Smashing and Lethal, out of a hard cap of 75%, which is probably going to be possible with the new set bonuses.

I have a Necromancy/Time Manipulation character in the works for my next petless Mastermind. The features that have become available between this one and my last one should make for quite a dandy improvement.

Performance-wise, my previous petless Mastermind was able to solo many of the Elite Bosses in the game without Inspirations or Temporary Powers. These include, among others, Black Scorpion, Romulus Augustus, Lt. Sefu Tendaji, Adamastor and Snaptooth.

Looks like 1 blue zone revamp, 0 red (since they don't need reworking) to me. A couple new contacts does not a revamp make; they've been adding a new contacts every issue.

From the context of a Mastermind being buffed for damage by Pain Domination, it is largely wasted. However, in the interest in keeping the perception in line with reality...

The combined damage scales for the Mastermind and all six Henchmen, not counting any additional pets, comes out to 3.65 melee and 2.95 ranged. For reference, Blaster is 1.0 melee and 1.125 ranged.

Masterminds can out-DPS arch-villain regen out of the box, almost universally. They generally can't solo them because the henchmen are too fragile, but Masterminds (with pets, Pain Domination notwithstanding) are some of the highest damage output available.

Corruptors had it since its debut. Poison was Mastermind-only for the longest time, though. Maybe you're thinking of that.
  16. I think it was Issue 22 where they went through all the AoE powers and set their critical hit from Hide chances to 50% across the board, save for Burst, which got missed and will be set to 50% when they swing back around to it.
  17. Who said that's Atlas Park in the picture? Surely even Praetoria had an Atlas and built a statue in his honor.
