Sadly, the iron grip of the evil flippers cannot be broken, and in order to purple out my warshade I'm forced to sell the ones I don't need on the market. :-(
-
Since I18, I've had the following drops:
Apocalypse: Damage
Coercive Persuasion: Contagious Confusion
Soulbound Allegiance: Dam/End
Soulbound Allegiance: Rech/Acc
Fortunata Hypnosis: Rech/Acc
Ragnarok: Rech/Acc
Now, considering the time I've spent in Praetoria, the time I've spent badging in low-level flashbacks, and the time I've spent stealthing paper missions to get Mayhem badges, it's absolutely clear that the devs must have stealth buffed purple drop rates and fixed the biased drop ratios. If it wasn't for evil flippers controlling the market, then purple prices would have crashed to Trap of the Hunter levels by now.
p.s. This is clearly a buff. I don't want to hear any of your crazy theories about 'selective reporting' and so-called 'randomness', or any feeble yammering about 'statistics'. I SAW IT WITH MY OWN EYES AND IT IS TRUFAX. -
That happened to me just today. I spent about a minute staring at the screen wondering where the hell the IO had gone, until I found it in the for sale screen. Luckily it was only listed for 5 million or so. Then I remembered seeing the bug mentioned here.

Quote:My theory is that some of it is people crafting from drops, who haven't really thought through the various components of the process and so are viewing the dropped salvage and recipes as 'free', rather than considering the inf lost by not simply selling them. But, yeah, it's odd. I've picked up some extraordinary bargains buying crafted IOs, especially at lower levels.I get the generics, but the ones I don't get are why so many of the recipes that require rare salvage sell for less than 1 or 2 million. Take the Airburst Dam/Rech. It requires a Synthetic Intelligence unit at the high level and Impervium at the mid level. Both of those go for between 1.5m and 3m. The crafted sell pretty reliably below 1m at levels between 37 and 49. Why the hell does anyone bother?
ETA: Or, good point from Uberguy. I usually squirrel away IOs I've taken out in respecs, so I didn't think of that one. -

Quote:The last time I was collecting the badges, I bought stacks of recipes and salvage on the market for each badge, crafted them up, listed cheap the ones that looked as though there was any demand at all, and deleted the rest. Inf is ridiculously easy to come by in this game, and overall, I *still* made tens of millions while getting the badges, so what's a few million here and there?Sure, I get that, I'm working on the last crafting badge now - but I realize that I'll be playing this game for a long time. I don't need the badge today. Nothing will change that would impact my life if I had it or never could get it. So, I'm patient and figure I'll just craft the things my alts and sg folks might need or want. Sooner or later, I'll have the silly badge.
(I 'bought' some of my WW selling badges, too, anti-flipping common salvage by buying for 10-1000 and listing at 1. I think it worked out about 300,000 a badge.)
Quote:When I play the market, I ask myself, What if this was real money? Then play it accordingly.
Play money is play money. A lot of people would rather throw their crafted items on the market at sell-it-first prices, knowing that on average they'll make a ton of inf anyway, and get back to the fireballing. -
Noooo! I've been away from the game for a few days, so I had no idea you were leaving, Spawnus. I'll miss you ::sniffles::. Thanks for all the teaming, and for being so friendly to a newcomer, and I hope you'll be back again eventually.

Quote:I was just about to laugh like a hyena on nitrous at the first sentence, and then I read the second. For a show that has a very strictly observed continuity for over 40 years, this is more than a little disappointing.
Still, I just got into Doctor Who two months ago, so there's not much indignation to which I'm entitled.
Really, this is just business as usual. Who doesn't even have a defined canon, never mind much pretense towards continuity. -
I think GG having more than one character, or being less than 100% heroic are both signs of the End of the World. Best not to mess with thing like that. One misplaced Vigilante mission, and the next thing you know the sea will be boiling with blood and fire will be raining from the skies.

Picking up candy canes for a couple of weeks once a year is more than enough gathering for me.

On Defiant, the most active global channel is Defiant Events. I'm sure that you'll be able to find someone on there willing to help you out, especially if you say you're new to the game.
Mercy tends to be pretty quiet at the best of time, as a lot of more experienced players skip past it as quickly as possible (it's a good intro, but the selection of missions is limited). Once you get to Cap au Diable, you'll find a lot more people around. -
But be very careful that they don't KB so far back that they get in range of a previously downed tower, because they'll heal it right back up. I find Rain of Fire is a better bet than Bonfire -- repairmen have such low HP that it takes them down very fast without the risk of KB into another tower.

Quote:If there are crafted IOs listed, and no bidders, I always start off with a bid of 1111, just in case. (And to prove inflation is really happening -- I used to bid 111, but nowadays that just feels stingy.)Reminds me of when our SG bins filled up and I realised nobody was taking anything from them. I grabbed a pile of good-stuff IOs that were just eating space and started listing them for four-digit numbers. They kept selling for eight-digit numbers, and that wasn't when I was posting stuff with existing bids. People walked up, looked at things and picked the number they wanted to pay when they could have paid so much less. Weirdoes.

Quote:Sure, why not?I can definitely go to different servers. I get that.
And the one-man SG base that I spent years creating on the one server... what becomes of that?
Start over?
A while back, I started a few of characters on a second server and popped them into a new SG. Playing them in SG mode all the time, it really didn't take all that long to put together a basic, functional base, and I can add more to it over time. It's cool to have a little foothold over there with a few fun characters, so I can join in events there if I feel like it. And now with gleemail, it's no trouble to transfer items between servers, either. -
Aww, he changed it back!
Good luck for the future, BaBs, and we're all very sorry to see you go. -
I think BaBs knows we're watching. As of right now, his profile reads:

Quote:I slot most of my IOs in the 32ish-38ish range, sometimes going a little higher or a little lower if I'm have real trouble finding recipes. On the other hand, I only ever buy crafted IOs if I can find them stupidly cheap (i.e. cheaper than it would cost me to make myself) and otherwise I buy recipes. I don't mind waiting a few days -- or a few weeks -- to pay the price I want to pay.I would think that people looking to supply the lvl 35 market would look to buying IOs in the lvl 38 area, for example. But I never have much luck selling IOs at that level.
Maybe people who buy mid-level are just stingier than people who buy at 50? :-) -
I haven't noticed perpetually non-seling stacks as a problem.
However, I noticed something similar when I was helping Archie get WW sales badges. We were trading stacks of high level common tech salvage back and forth, selling for 1 inf and buying for 10. Every so often the process would freeze up for a minute or so, with nothing shifting even though we both had stacks for sale and outstanding bids. Then the sales would start to through again -- often a couple would sell, and then the rest go through in a rush. We put it down to lag on the market server.
It made me more leisurely about my bid creeping on high-value items, anyway. -
Try switching Hell on Earth to the bright rather than the dark customization palette. The pet will then show up with a bright, customizable body colour.
(Also, even on the dark palette, the body does colour, it's just very subtle. Set the tailor background to bright, and use the palest customization row on the dark palette to show it up best.) -
Quote:With all respect, that isn't a sample of any size. It's an anecdote. Human memory is horribly biased when it comes to remembering and analyzing events. Events like purple drops are the worst kind, because they're rare. No, what I meant by that was actually "everybody in the game whom I know and team with on a regular basis" - not a huge sample size, but fairly good sized.
Mr Hassenpheffer and his friends recorded their drops as they happened -- they found random drops.
You and your friends are recalling past events -- you found a pattern.
There is absolutely nothing surprising about this because it's just the way the human brain works. This is why people design experiments carefully in advance, and use statistics to evaluate the outcomes. Start a prospective trial. Record all your purple drops, and see if you can get your friends to record theirs. That's the only kind of drop data that means anything.
Quote:Perhaps a sample size of two isnt all that many, I will grant you that. I therefore turn to the market, consisting of tens of thousands of players, where things such as Fortunata Hypnosises and Unbreakable Constraints are selling for considerably less than many more desireable sets. -
I forgot, too. If there's another one, I'll try to remember to take part.

1. Are you male or female?
- Female
2. What ATs do you mostly play, and for what reason(s)?
- Blasters, corruptors and scrappers, because I like the damage and the fireballs. I like some of the debuffing defenders, and masterminds. I've never really got on well with tanks and controllers -- maybe the generally lower damage puts me off. (I'm going to try an Ill/Rad controller next, I think.)
3. Redside, blueside, purpleside, or any combination of the above?
- All. (Also, why purpleside? Surely it ought to be yellowside?)
4. What are your favorite story arcs?
- The Faultline stories, Vernon von Grun's arcs, the Radio and Television arcs, Seer Marino, the Croatoa arcs.
5. What makes you like this game?
- It's really easy to play, doesn't require a lot of commitment, and can be soloed most of the time.
6. What other games do you play?
- Neopets.
7. How long have you been playing?
- Just over two years.
8. How many alts do you have, what is the average level range, and how many are level 50?
- A couple of dozen. I have...about half a dozen level 50s, I think. The others cover the full range. A lot of the 'stuck' ones are half of level-pacted duos.
9. Do you bother with softcaps, set bonuses, and all that numerical stuff? What difficulty settings to you normally use?
- I love sets, and pre-planning builds in Mids. The difficulty setting depends on the toon and the goal. E.g. right now I'm badging redside, then I'll turn the difficulty down and stealth as much as possible.
p.s. Considering sources of bias is always an important part of social sciences surveys. F'rex, might the stated goal of looking at differences in male and female gamers make someone more or less likely to leave a reply if they don't consider themselves a typical male/female gamer?
