An enemy that cons green to you is just as likely to give you a drop as one that cons purple.
From Paragonwiki:
Quote:Emphasis mine. These recipes come from defeating a computer controlled foe. The recipe may be common, uncommon, or rare. If a team defeats an enemy that drops a recipe, it goes to a random team member. The enemy's rank affects how likely it is to drop a recipe, with higher ranks giving higher chances (bosses more so than lieutenants, for example). The enemy's level does not influence drop chances, except that enemies that are too low in comparison to the player character, that con grey, provide no rewards at all (except reduced experience points). Drop chances aren't affected by the enemy's faction, either. None of these factors influence what kinds of recipes might drop or how likely they are to be common, uncommon, or rare.

The advantage of using Malicious difficulty setting is that it increases the spawn size, but the enemies will generally be even-con( white ). This works well for farming for drops since its maximizes the number of enemies while minimizing the risk.

Quote:Welcome to the boards. Something to keep in mind is that many of the MM guides were written before Real Numbers and the Invention System was introduced, so some of them are lacking in statistics. I suggest downloading a copy of Mid' Hero designer:I know this must be asked a lot, but I didn't see any immediate threads, and I spent a decent while searching around and comparing the various guides and stats that were available, but it is pretty difficult to determine when all the information is in terms of severity (minor/moderate/heavy, etc) and not in terms of DPS.
http://www.honourableunited.org.uk/
It has not been updated since Issue 13, but it should still be useful.
Quote:It seems like, looking at the stats, that Mercs would be the best, at least at dishing out damage while still having some CC abilities ... even with a potentially gimpy medic (is it?).
Quote:Ranged seems like a good thing, as it should keep them near me and so under my supremacy buff and in range for Twilight Grasp heals more so than the more melee-focused primaries (necro, ninja)...
Quote:Bots seem potentially gimped with their tier 2 pet being a healer? How do they compete with damage?
Quote:Anyway ... what are your thoughts on the best? I'll likely mostly solo PvE to level as I can only play at odd times, but love PvP as well.
Suggestions on a secondary would be useful as well, though I think I'm pretty sold on Dark.
Thoughts?
Thanks
And do not forget that you have access to two builds for your character. So you can make a PvE build and and PvP build. It will cost more because you have to buy for two builds, but if it means greater success, then use it.

And the pets get the orange damage resist aura on them as well.

Well, here's the basics of Purple IOs:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Purple_ios
My suggestion would be to run level 50 Ouroboros story arcs on the second level of difficulty( Malicious). That way you get larger spawn size with greater chance of a purple dropping, and you can earn a few merit rewards while doing so.
Grizz -
It's not a proc. It acts like a set bonus, so it is always on. To top it off, it will have no effect on the pet whatsoever for two reasons. 1) Like set bonuses, they only effect the MM not the pet. 2) Pets are immune to any form of recharge manipulation. That includes speeding up their recharge as well as slowing it down.

i just got the game yesterday (ive not played CoH since 2004 :O 'meta volta' 50 ar/dev blaster on victory, if anyone remembers me? :P) and decided to play a Necro/Poison MM
is this combo good for leveling? so far ive not been having problems, cos my pet can solo stuff while i heal it with Akaloid, but i noticed neither necro or poison have any AoE abilities. is this gonna make leveling slow later on?
[/ QUOTE ]
Necro/Poison is the first character I made as well. I pretty much solo'd all the way up to 50. So long as you use your debuffs, you'll be fine.
[ QUOTE ]
and for pvp, how does necro/poison do there? i noticed that the zombie henchmen only have a melee attack and don't run very fast... am i gonna have problems with people just running away from the minions or kiting them ? or does poison have some abilities to slow people down? (like web grenade from devices)?
[/ QUOTE ]
The Poison set is very strong in PvP; it includes pretty much every debuff in the game. Including -Special and -Heal, which are fairly rare. Neurotoxic Breath will help keep people from running, and it's an AoE. Which also makes it great for opening up on mobs.
[ QUOTE ]
or perhaps bot/trap will be better? i cant really decide which to chose. they both seem fun.
thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
With Masterminds, there is no uber or gimped powerset combination. What makes a combination fun for a player is their playstyle and the players understanding and application of the secondary powers.
My opinion, try both. Then see which one you like better.

That's about the silliest thing I've ever heard. You always put Noxious Gas on your Tier 3 pet. ALWAYS. The debuffs from Noxious Gas on a Tier 3 is nearly double that of a Tier 3, and your Tier 3 will stay alive longer. If that means using GoTo to send my Lich into melee, then that's well worth it for the massive debuffs he'll dole out. Added bonus, the Lich actually stays put.
[/ QUOTE ]
As far as I know... putting Noxious Gas on a "boss" pet doesn't make it debuff any better than putting it on a "minion" pet. It should debuff the exact same. It shouldn't matter.
Now, I've only ever had it on my Bruiser, since I've only ever gotten Thugs/Poison up that high, but honestly, I really don't think it makes a difference. Anyone else ever heard of this?
[/ QUOTE ]
Try this.
Which tier pet you cast Noxious Gas on does make a difference. And yes, I've tested the numbers in PvP.

Badges and Accolade which gives a nice power, for one reason.

And for a few with the right powersets, really cool weapons for their costumes.

We might be able to swap out the current Necro models with alternative ones. Or, the dark blast powers might be tintable.

Very cool, um.....I mean warm. Whatever, this will be a very good issue,

You might not need to take Acrobatics if you have -KB IOs in your Combat Jumping and Super Jump. Power Boost might be better.
You've also got quite a few high end use toggles running( leadership and acrobatics). Poison is a high end use powerset, you might find that you need to add end reducers on those toggles.

just make a bind so u can switch at will
[/ QUOTE ]
Just be aware that when you switch your pets into BG mode, there is a four second period where they will do nothing. Although, you will get the benefits of BG mode in those four seconds.
Grizz -
They only attack when you or any of your pets are attacked. Not when teammates are attacked. I ususaly place one tier of my pets in aggressive mode, that way I have still have good BG resistance and I can still have some immediate offense. And in PvP, if an enemy is attacking your teammate with a few of your own pets, there is a good chance that a stray attack will hit one of your aggressive pets and bring all your pets into the fray.

Let's use another example. We're all standing in line waiting to buy tickets to a new movie that just came out. There's nothing LEGAL stopping me from just walking to he head of the line ahead of everyone else and buying my ticket. Nobody could call a cop and have them arrest me for it. However, SOCIETY has established over the years that this is a behavior that is frowned upon, so you don't do it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Another analogy might be along these lines:
There is a foot bridge across a shallow river. Some people cross the bridge on foot, some people cross by bicycle, some people fish off the bridge, some people just like to sit and enjoy the scenery. Along comes Twixt, who feels that the foot bridge should only be used for crossing the river on foot, because it's a foot bridge and that's it's purpose. So, to that end Twixt begins to push people off the bridge who is using the bridge for any purpose other than crossing by foot.
Now, there is nothing against pushing people off the bridge in the laws of physics. It's just a matter of leverage and force. So, according to Twixt there is nothing wrong with what he is doing. However, pushing people off bridges is wrong according to social laws. If you did that in the real world, it would get you into trouble.
Personally, there are a bunch of problems with Dr. Myers research, assumptions, and conclusions in the Twixt episode. My opinion is that the 'Twixt paper' is flawed, and the quality of the paper is sub par coming from a doctorate who's focus is in this particular area of study.

Put in an option for us villains to start all of those doomsday plots and I might have an evilgasm!
[/ QUOTE ]
That would actually be a REALLY good idea. We already have it inplace where doing a taskforce triggers an invasion. Why not expand it and have a villain taskforce where the target is to start their own "doomsday" device.
Launch the missile at the end of the taskforce results in mutated enemies heroside as a straight forward/easy example.
[/ QUOTE ]
Run the 'Doomsday" SF from the SG Base Mission Computer. That would be cool.
I'm sure Heroes could be given a series of 'Prevent Domsday' TFs as well. Running the TF would cause a disruption in the Vilain zones. Spawning a special GM, or a special group of Longbow. How about starting a Wyvern assault in Cap au Diable? Something like that.

Well, something good that might come out of this episode is that NCSoft might change the Terms of Service and EULA to include a "No research without written consent" clause. The case with Dr. Myers makes very clear that unethical research can certainly happen. With the increasing popularity of MMOs, it might be wise for publishers to be proactive in protecting their players from potential problems related to research. Something for the NCSoft lawyers to think about anyway.
Grizz -
It would be interesting for a real scociologist to take a good look at how an online game, such as ours, can positively effect the real world, and seriously ask why that happens. Afterall, our community does generate goodwill, acts of kindness, and charity in the real world. A good line of research would be why a virtual community( most of whom never meet in real life), can be compelled to help each other and help improve the real world. I would like to think that our players, even if they only play villain side, try to live up to the Heroic Idea, even if a litle bit. Has the game 'rubbed off' on us? Or is it human nature to do so?
Grizz -
OPTICAL_ILLUSION,
How do you respond to the issue of ethics violations in Dr. Myers research. Permission is required from any test subject in a Scociology investigation, and no where in his paper does he mention seeking any form of permission( by individuals or by NCSoft). It is also possible that the people that were effected by Twixt's activities were minors, and without actualy conduction interviews, it would be inpossible to know. If Dr. Myers research is unethical, does it invalidate his conclutions?
Furthermore, under no circumstance are you allowed to harm or distress, (physically or psychologically) your research subjects, without their approval and impartial supervision. Dr. Myers had to understand that Twixt's activities would cause harm. Again, how does this effect his conclusion?
Dr. Myers was not an observer to the events that happened in his research. He was the instigator, and his impartiality is questionable. Therefore, his conclusions must also suspect.
As Ive said earlier in this thread, I believe that his research was sloppy and unethical. I think that there were better research opportunities that could have been explored. Opportunities that could have been far more interesting, and more approprate for a Doctoral level investigation.
Grizz -
Meh, putting a star ranking on a thread is kinda pointless, I my opinion. There are people that, obvioulsy, feel that they can 'hurt' others by using it. I feel that the thread view number is more telling of a threads popularity.

I'm wondering why nobody has been spamming his Twitter page. After all it's within the rules.
Also, Prof. Myers made a post on his blog about this, sort of. Some of his replies to comments below the post are more intriguing than the actual post.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, someone named Paul G copied my comment and Myers responded by...calling me names?
[/ QUOTE ]
And does so in pseudo kiddie-speak.
He's like, so gnarly, and, like, totally mature to the max.
[/ QUOTE ]
His comments are definitly not what I would call academic.
Also puzzling is how Myers can be so mean and be a 'reverand' at the same time. You heard me, a reverand, as in a minister or priest. That's a bit of a paradox is it not?
Another point: his university bio only mentions that he is a Rev. and a teaching proffessor. I could not find his acamedic credentials to see what Bachelor's, Master's, or even PhD he has. It's not listed, so is he really a Doctor? Has he really studied Scoiology?
I smell something foul, and it's not just his trash talk.
Grizz -
[ QUOTE ]
I have said this before in threads about him. He did an extremely poorly designed experiment with a unknown population that is too small of a sample. He had no IRB review or approval and no informed consent. His work was unethical and worthless. I won't even get into the points on ethics of human test subjects in regards to minors which some of his population was most likely.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with you completely; there seems (to me) to be some much potential for research in human interaction in PvP. What he did does not seem to be worth academic scrutity. Determining that "I can piss people off and become a pariah in a very small populaton" is kinda pointless. Why not study what interactions goes on in PvP zones? What activities occurr there? Are the people that enter the PvP zones only there to battle other players? Do the players in the PvP zones follow the set zone rules or do they create their own? If they do, why do they create their own PvP rules?
And I'm sure many people could add considerably to that list of questions. To answer those questions, observing and asking questions, probably using PAR( Participatory Action Response) methodology, would be best.
And there are so many avenues to ask questions. Did Twixt make use of the forums at any time for research( I have )? Was permission asked for or granted at any time? By anybody?
Myers' work seems pretty sloppy and unfocused, I my opinion. Considering the factual errors that exist in both the news article and his "Play and Punishment" paper( which I may point out has the length and depth of an undegraduate essay, not a doctoral paper), I would seriously question Myers' credentials.
Grizz
EDIT: I just looked at David Myers bio at Loyola University. The only credentials listed are that he is a reverand and a proffessor. No where does it say which Bachelor, Masters, or PhD he received. That's a little odd, as most universities like to promote their proffessors' credentials. -
The only rank that has a special debuff resist that I know of is the AV. Here's the article on Paragonwiki:
Archvillians
Elite Bosses, and Bosses do not generally have any special resistance to debuffs, unless the powers that the EB/Boss has provides built in resists( like Granite powers).

Don't forget that you can slot a Steadfast Protection Res/Def IO in Shadow fall, or a resistance based Patron sheild. That gives you an extra 3% def to all. If you're trying to pack in as much defence as you can, that might help. Getting that particular IO recipe is the only problem though; the're a tad pricey.
