Quote:I guess I can see that, but running stealthy like that has seemed like an odd choice for most of the melee ATs. Tanks and Brutes usually want to be out there and seen, and Scrappers as well. It would be nice if they could find a solution that accommodates the desire to stealth when you want to, though. Other sets like Dark don't have that problem.Actually, I hate the addition of the taunt aura to EA brutes. It completely destroys the stealth brute play-style.
Quote:Though I am still happy to see more sets proliferated, it would have been nice to see MM's get more then one considering how far behind the rest of the pack they are to begin with.
Quote:But it's okay, because the Energy/Energy Blaster just killed 90% of what was there. The rest of the team can pick up those other two guys.
Not to mention the AOEs were helping with the adds a lot as well, and the person complaining was on a ranged character to boot. *rolls eyes* I have two Storm characters, among other characters with location aoes, but I roll with KB as best I can. I think the only time I have complained on one of them is when a Kin Melee character uses that cone KB as a lead in, and doesn't aim toward a wall. It doesn't help (since it's a weak attack), and knocks things out of Freezing Rain, which would have helped more than the KB he did. -
I am rather frustrated that the first new Secondary Blasters get in ages is Dark. Martial Arts after getting Maelstrom as an NPC seemed a no-brainer, but I'm guessing it required more work than they could give it currently. I'm sure some will love having dark Blasters, but I've never liked shooting skulls at things. If it was just the clouds of dark that I could color, it might be fun.
Would have liked to see EA brought to Tanks, rather than SR. I'll probably roll and EA Scrapper, since I like them more than Brutes. I don't know what to pair with it: part of me was thinking Broadsword or Axe (the Vanguard version), but I hate redraw, and EA has a couple of powers that will cause it after the changes. I may make a build that only needs Energy Drain once in a blue moon, but I don't know. I'd go Kin Melee, but I already have a Kin Scrapper that I just finished leveling, and I want to run him through the Incarnate stuff. -
Quote:Well, that's a question entirely dependent on your build and how many slots you have.Hello Grey, assuming you did want the convenience of the energy pool, what slotting would you recomend?
Still, Conserve Energy probably only needs one slot, unless you can spare one more for the recharge (putting two level 50 IOs in there can be close to 3 SO enhancements). Physical Perfection can be a nice place to put procs that you don't have already in Health (the Miracle or Numina), or another Performance Shifter Proc, if you are needing even more endurance for some reason.
But again, it depends on what your build needs in the first place. -
Quote:I don't really see a need for the Energy pool, either. You already have Consume. With good slotting and by picking up Accolades, you really should not have any endurance issues. Feel free to grab the pool if you want, but I'd see it as more useful if you want some extra Regeneration or something. I have Conserve Power and Physical Perfection on Scrappers that do not have end recovery mechanisms of their own, but like I said, that's not an issue for Fiery Aura.In my opinion, fire/fire tanks do not need or want the fire epic.
They need AND want the energy epic, for conserve power and physical perfection, to control their end.
Conserve power, stamina, and consume, along with a +end proc in stamina and PP, Will Fix You.
Fire/fire tanks by themselves have combustion, fire sword circle, burn, and blazing aura. With even moderate +recharge, you can have a seamless AOE attack chain, with BA gnawing on everything around you constantly.
Add in Reactive for a 75 percent fire proc on every attack. The orange numbers fly up like sparks, it's very pretty.
Single target, you get scorch, incinerate, and greater fire sword. Again, seamless without too much work/expense.
The fire epic is massive overkill on a fire tank: You HAVE the offense built right in, use it.
To be honest, the most useful power for my Tanks from the Epics is a hold. Helps out with annoying mobs, and is very useful on a LGTF or Hami Raid. Beyond that, I mostly go with theme.
Anyway, just my two cents. Go with what works for your build and theme, I always say. If you choose Conserve Power and PP, just make sure you're actually getting enough benefit from those choices. -
Quote:I've thought SR should get that for all its iterations... it's too much of a one trick pony, and you will get hit at some point, especially in the new content we have running toward us. I sometimes felt like Shields was a little squishy (without recourse to fix a big hit) despite its +HP and OWTS. Super Reflexes looks way worse in comparison, at least as it is on Brutes.Arcanaville's suggestion was to add a self-heal and a +max hp (that can stack from the same caster) to Practiced Brawler.
For me, I'm not all that interested in the proliferation for Tanks. Martial Arts doesn't sound all that great on a Tank, and as noted above, Super Reflexes doesn't feel like it will be all that great on a Tank (at least if my experience with it on a Scrapper holds true). Having more HP to play with will help, but my SR Scrapper has had plenty of bad luck, even at the def cap.
I would have liked to see EA over here, and I would have loved to see Martial Arts as a secondary for Blasters (I could care less about Dark, but I'm glad some are excited about the idea). I guess that wasn't workable since we have our art assets sucked up elsewhere right now. *sighs* Still don't know why they gave one of the new NPCs for Going Rogue Martial Arts (and he's a Blaster), and didn't bother with it there.
Debating what kind of EA Scrapper to make, though. Might go with Broadsword or Axe, and use the Vanguard weapon for them... all energy for the win. Or I might go with Kin Melee... too bad I already have a Kin/Dark since EA wasn't a choice for Scrappers when KM first came out. -
Quote:Wait... so you hang out with us because you hate us? Interesting, and here I always thought you liked us!I guess I'm a "hate them" type
I bounce between Champion and Victory and have been on Victory almost exclusively since BAF and Lambda came out. There is a definite difference in population between Virture/Freedom and Justice which is consistently in 3rd, and Champion and Victory, which are both around the upper middle slots now. Even at a lower populations I still haven't found much difficulty in finding PD teams except for the past few days, which I attribute to summer and the holiday.
But teaming would not be a problem if the global channel issue were better broadcast. That is what I find is the main difference between Champion and Victory, is on teams they tell players about the channels and how to join. More players on the channel, more players listening, easier to form teams.
I'll try to do better with announcing about global channels... I had a few people I found in search on my Striga Task Force Spectacular, and they might not have been on channels. I should be sure to let people know after this. -
I responded to your post in my guide as well, but if you need cash, I would recommend setting up a build in Mid's that you want to shoot for, and you should be able to get a fair amount of inf from selling the Hami-Os you don't use on the market (the ones that help your end and resistance go for a lot on their own... I sold one for 300-400 mill the other week when it dropped on a Hami raid). Most don't go for that much, but they will help.
Do you stealth all that much? If my team needs to get to the end of a mission, I usually just tanker stealth to the end (leap through without my aura going). Also, you can still be seen by anyone with just that IO, you're just cutting down on the range they can see you at: you need to stack it with another forum of stealth to not be seen by most mobs. Even then... I'd say a Tank should be seen. Unless you really need that IO on this guy or another character, stealth IOs sell pretty well also.
And like New Dawn said, use your slots wisely. Combat Jumping is good with its default slot. You can save up merits to get a LoTG +recharge in there (only 200, which is doable after a few task forces, especially if you run the WST and get the extra merits). Or just a defense enhancement. The few times I have had more than one slot in there, it was for a bonus of some sort... maybe to have a Kismet +accuracy as well.
At any rate, I'd highly recommend going for defense to add on to your build. It makes you a lot more survivable, and you can do pretty good damage with my defense build -
I tried to note the debate over when and how to use Blazing Aura in my guide. I quite agree that it is useful throughout your career, so picking it up as soon as possible is the way to go. However, endurance usage is always something to worry about, especially before SO levels. I ran a KM/Dark Scrapper through after the Fitness changes, and I had a hard time keeping his damage aura going when solo: until after the SO levels. And I was slotting for end reduction as best I could, around other things. Scrappers generally have better damage to endurance consumption, so Tankers are going to notice that even more. Damage auras are nice, but you want to keep up your toggles and use your other attacks even more.
When to take Rise of the Phoenix is a personal preference thing, too. I prefer to get everything lined up that will keep me alive before grabbing something that will revive me. So I'd take all my defensive toggles before RotP for sure. I could see possibly taking it before Fiery Embrace or Temperature Protection, but there are benefits to those that can keep you moving as well.
Builds are individual as well. Whatever you want to use, be sure that it adds up to you having a solid build that will meet your needs. Hami-Os are a nice way to get a lot out of each slot, so they have that going for them. However, you would not want to use them so exclusively that you are cheated of the many bonuses IO sets can give. I'll try to take a look at your build when I get the chance (no time right now, alas), but use Hami-Os around IO sets to stretch your slots and bonuses to the utmost.
Defense is a good thing to aim for with Fiery Aura, the type you go for is up to you, but you would want to get to at least 20% for regular content: that seems to be the line where I notice a big difference. The higher you go, the better. It is possible to get to 45%, but you usually have to sacrifice too much with Fiery Aura, so getting somewhere between 20-45% is a good spot. S/L is nice, of course, but as you can see with my Defensive build, I like having defense to more types of damage, especially Psionic (it's prevalent in the 40+ game). -
No problem. I want to make sure everyone can find and form teams, and channels are a big part of that.

Keyes seems to be like Lambda, which requires you to be more on your toes and to work in a smaller group than the entire Trial group. That periodic pulse is rather rough... I got nervous whenever I needed to use Healing Flames between pulses. This was alleviated when people were using their area heals well, but I still find that frustrating... for all that these trials require teamwork, people seem bent on doing their own thing or racing from one room to the next in Lambda, etc. I guess it's nice to have the challenge.
I think I'm more concerned that it seems to take longer than a BAF or Lambda and doesn't reward as well, at least as far as Astrals go. Anyone been timing these much? Lambda is always faster for me than a BAF, and Keyes was at least as long as the BAF I was on beforehand tonight. It really gets that way when you include wait time as well... forming up for some trials (if you're there early on) can make forming for a TF seem like nothing. -
Yeah, the chat channel thing would be nice for a new player to reference (it's why I made that Welcome to Victory Thread). I honestly don't know what the solution is, other than to tell players that seem to be new about them. Channels are player run, so I'm guessing some kind of notice about them might not be wanted from the devs.
But I dunno... are there any help messages on the loading screens that mention channels? I can't recall. Most servers have a welcome thread that mentions the main channels, so it would be good if they did.
And I'm fine with there being three main channels (I posted in all four with VB2009). VB being consolidated makes sense, but the three are different enough that it's worth keeping that way. Different people, different purposes, etc. It's all good.
*added*
Ele, when did Werner try to look for trials? The first few weeks of them, there were three trials at a time constantly in the peak hours, so that seems weird. -
The powers do work at the sub-50 over 45 range... I was running a level 48 through the Maria Jenkins story arc and had a few with incarnate powers that were blowing things apart with their Judgement.
-
Quote:Yup, you can see them all in the tailor... you definitely have to be 50 at least, I tried it with one of my non-50s and couldn't see anything. All the faction ones can be seen on Paragon Wiki by looking at the mobs in that faction. The Phantoms look like the Phantom Army from Illusion, and the Polar Lights look like wisps from Croatoa.
Oh, and you can get a look at them by taking your Incarnate character to the Tailor and looking at the power customization section for the Lore slot, I do believe. -
The great thing about our costume options combined with our powersets is that you can easily make a tech looking hero whose powers are derived from technology. Could be Invulnerability, Willpower, even Fiery Aura.
I think it probably works out better than having such a specific powerset. -
Quote:Tsk, tsk. I'm The Grey Pilgrim, an homage superhero to that wizard fellow, but with a story very much in the City of Heroes world. No desire to get generic'd or be boring as a copycat./agree for pve follow what gandolf said.. lol (i keep quoting you but keep forgetting your name all i can remember is gandolf lol).
Thanks for passing on what the Polar Lights support pet does: I'm hoping Dispari updates the Incarnate powers guide for everyone at some point so we have an easy reference... I hate that the in game powers don't state this. More damage and a heal sounds good for my PB, so I'll go with the invincible support for him, I think. I figure any other damage the pets do is gravy, but I know what I can do with him and some buffing. -
If you have endurance issues, go for Cardiac, but I would think you should be able to moderate those well enough that you could go for Spiritual (which would help a lot with all the long recharge powers PBs get, as well as getting Conserve Power up faster). I went Spiritual on my PB and it's pretty nice, allowing for build up and other attacks to be increased, as well as my heals. If you're not hurting for recharge or endurance, I could see going for more damage, perhaps. I'd still say go spiritual unless you have enough global recharge that Hasten is perma or close to it.
Judgement, go for what is fun, though you could easily color Void to look like PB powers (and with no end drain to use it!). I'm probably going to do that for my Peacebringer (going to start running him in trials soon, after I get my Controller to all T3 levels).
Interface, Diamagnetic's -to hit is awesome if you want more survivability. If you want more damage, I'd go with Reactive. I'm not sure the others will help much for a PB, since you already do plenty of -defense already, and won't have any slows to stack (and I'd say I prefer -to hit for more survivability than to have added slows).
Destiny, well, Clarion seems a clear bet, especially for you. You don't have any mez protection (unless your build has Acrobatics running, but that will only cover one hold against you), so that will help you keep blasting away. I'm going for Clarion on my Peacebringer. I could see going for Ageless, but if you have any endurance or recharge issues, I'd say it's better to cover those with your Alpha slot and grab Clarion. You have two heals in human form, so hopefully you don't need Rebirth, either.
Lore... I'd say you could go for theme there, more than anything. If you want damage, Warworks and Cimerorans seem to do a lot, but none of them are too far off, from what I recall being posted. If you'd rather more survivability, going for one of the sets with good buffs or debuffs can help. Seers support casts a weakened version of Fortitude on you (think about 5ish defense to all, along with some to hit and damage), and storm elementals run around with a hurricane version that doesn't send foes flying too much, but debuffs their range and to hit. I'm going with Polar Lights for thematics on my PB, but I'm not sure what their support does. I might just go for a stronger boss with him. -
Quote:Fista, it sounds like the comic book intro will have static pictures, just like a real comic book. You just get to to flip through the pages. I was saying it would be cool if they used the idea to replace cut scenes, or integrated the two together somehow (so animated pages).I didn't get the impression that the panels were cut sceens. I'll have to go back and reread that artical.
As far as Galaxy being a ghost town. True. However the only reason Atlas isn't is that there are a lot of missions higher up that take you back there. I never though I'd say this but I miss seeing every one loitering in Atlas BS'ing and having costume contests. -
Quote:I'd be fine with the taunt for Dwarves being auto hit, at least in PvE. That, minus an aura is fine by me, since you don't want them to overlap with what Tanks can do. With the limit of four attacks it might still be okay, but I don't think it's need.Another thing I forgot to mention here, is that White and Black Dwarf both need a taunt aura.
The no accuracy check for the taunt is needed, though: it's hard to tank for a team when your to-hit is floored, or you're facing some higher level mobs. I was extremely dismayed when facing Nosferatu on my PB... he kep turning to hit the squishies since I couldn't hit him at all. -
-
The use of comic book panels like this is stupendous, and should be used in place of cut scenes (or maybe cutscenes within comic-style panels). I only wish this had been thought of sooner: it is a brilliant idea! Now run with it (and revamp old content with it rather than letting them languish)!
-
Everyone read the Intrepid Informer info yet? I wasn't super keen on the idea of Galaxy City being trashed, since I started a lot of heroes there (I like Atlas, but it was a good change of pace back in the day when we only had that or Galaxy), but this sounds really cool.
Heck, I wish they had run with this idea for cutscenes since CoH started: comic panels would be awesome to use for those: I might actually not want to skip them even after the 30th time seeing one! -
Quote:"Premise" is a word that basically means foundation. So, for what I was responding to, neither Dominators or Kheldians have a flawed foundation. Dominators did not have their entire foundation changed with their revamp, they had their "Domination or nothing" aspect adjusted, so Domination is still nice, but it's not the whole basis by which they have to exist. Their premise is still the same, with the ability to crowd control and do some damage, with their Primary being accentuated by their Inherent power, Domination. That's a much more significant change than you seem to acknowledge. That one change removed this Jekyll and Hyde feeling to the AT and turned it into a mainline DPS AT that can intermittently exercise extremely strong controls.
Kheldians have had their premise clouded like Domination: special enemies that do special damage, having their damage be down when they are solo, etc. Those things have been mostly peeled away, but not entirely. As you pointed out, the time shapeshifting takes inhibits things for the premise of Kheldians still, among other things.
But I am not saying they don't need changes, they do. I'm just going to resist anyone saying Kheldians have a flawed premise, because they don't. They have a fun concept behind them (or since some get hung up on the term "fun," the concept is one that can be effective), and there is further adjusting needed to making it happen. People have been pretty united in the idea of their needing an adjustment, so I don't think anything is holding back the developers there.
People tend to paint pictures overly dark, and I rather hate that. So that's why I jumped on the "flawed premise" statement. There aren't any broken ATs in CoH... you can do well with any AT out there. Some still need adjusting to get more in line with the others, however, probably Kheldians and Stalkers, mostly. -
Even if you're going with just straight SOs, you need to have a build with any character. Throwing stuff at your character is never going to be good, especially if you start increasing your settings. That goes even more for Kheldians, who have fairly tight build needs. You don't have to spend hours on this, but you do want to think through what powers and slots you are taking.
-
Yeah, like I said, the Hami stuff is okay because it can be controlled to an extent, and mitigated as well. A large pulse that hits everyone no matter what used frequently is just... blech. If it was occasional and triggered at a completion of a part of the trial or something, I could get. Periodically and often during a trial is just not a fun concept, to my mind.
-
I rather hate irresistible damage... it tells me that player powers were not balanced well enough to allow the devs room to make encounters challenging enough. I'm somewhat okay with it on Hami, since it can be focused (rather than hitting the whole team), but I still dislike it there, since it makes CoX into a game where healers are suddenly needed, when that isn't usually the case.
I don't know that it's particularly necessary, either... I know my lone characters can have a rough time on the trials: it's much better to work in groups on them.
