Quote:Seeds is awesome and lets you run spawn to spawn like mad. Which is why Plant/Fire/Fire is often called the Brute of doms.I'm trying to get as much damage as possible to try to match that of a blaster, but with most of the perks of being a Dominator (IE: better and more fun). However, I am leveling a plant/fire as well, and spent a little bit of time putting together a similar build as the one above using plant. What do you mean by Proc'd & Reactive Creepers?
In a +4/+8 farm, with a less than 15 second cooldown and a 60 second duration, Seeds of Confusion pushes the amount of damage pretty far, and seems a better choice than Flashfire. Creepers might be close to Bonfire (if the Embrace is timed right), and it would seem to tear through solo farms.
The single target dps choices really boils down to having no imps and a lack of hot feet. So Fire/ should be better than Plant/, but Plant/ has it's other uses (and I could wiggle around some things to make Plant/ a hovering domiblaster type, instead of Fire/s need to be in melee for top end. It's tough to decide, hence why I'm leveling them both.
Off paper, plant seems kind of weak, minus the confusion. Is there something I'm missing? Or is it pretty much Seeds of Confusion that keeps the primary afloat?
What you're missing is the sheer awesome sauce of Creepers with damage procs -- both for control and AOE damage. And honestly Fly Trap can be pretty good with some procs in it as well like -RES Achilles and Neg Dmg Lady Gray. And don't forget Roots. Everyone forgets Roots. Slot roots for Damage not for immob, and it is a big-area AOE dmg dealer (though DOT) -- I believe roots has a higher dmg than other dom immobs.
Here's what I think is a version of my live Plant/Fire/Fire. He's been incarnated up to add Pyronic and other goodies like Reactive (75% fire, 25% -RES) ... Reactive procs on all your pets' attacks including Creepers.

Sounds cool. If you want a little more safety plus the fun of Proc'd & Reactive Creepers, I'd suggest Plant/Fire/Fire instead.
-
For the record, this whole thread is missing the sheer Smashgasm of War Mace / Shield ... on a Scrapper. Can you say massive dmg -RES cone in Shatter (reliably hit 3 enemies), plus crits plus Clobber plus Crowd Control.
Somehow everyone still overlooks WM even after its buff and its port to Scrapps. -
I need to figure out what exp-leveling mishes to use for my SS/FA and a newbie toon (hello Titan Weapons). The "FIRE!" chain of ambushes sounds like it's been pretty nerfed. 70% nerf you say? So it's only giving 30% of the exp now? Ugh. Maybe it's time to back to Battle for TV?
-
So I have been playing around with Titan Weapons on test. It's a fun set with a cool rhythm due to the Momentum mechanic.
Momentum and redraw lean me towards a secondary that requires few or no clickies. Specifically I am thinking of WP, INV, or maybe ELA.
My problem is trying to build any of those sets to have soft-cap to S/L/E/N with decent resists. I have not come up with a great build for WP or ELA that does this.
Using DB as a proxy -- similar number of attacks in cone/PBAOE (missing 1 cone, with the -RES attack coming later than lvl 2 but you get the idea) -- I modified my FM/INV build to at least leave it with that soft-cap (S/L/E/N) with 1 foe in range of Invinc. But the resists for E/N in particular are not good on INV. Aid Self covers the hole a bit. But for incarnatey goodness, I would love to see some other builds that get /WP and /ELA to the sweet spot.
What do you guys think?
Perhaps the better way to go is M/R/A with Melee being buffed by Defensive Sweep? That still wouldn't address the E/N resist issue.
(in the build below, BF is the placeholder for Defensive Sweep. and i have some extra slots. and on a scrap, it would be conserve power and pp).

Null the Gull makes it optional, that's the idea.
This is a great idea. A lot of players don't know how to use KB, and they end up scattering mobs ... which is worse for teams when they can handle tightly bunched groups (for AOE, debuffing, etc.).
Since it's Null, you would have a choice. If you love KB and/or know how to use it, don't visit null. If you want to disable KB, you can visit the bird. -
The real question is
TW/WP
TW/EA
or other?
Perhaps Brute > Scrapper in this case (maximize WP).
I think you want to avoid clicky secondaries so maybe that's the nod to WP over EA. -
Build in MIDS plz?
Did you use pets (incarnate) anywhere during the trial?
What was your Rommy strategy in the final mish.
Thanks. -
I would easily pay the Devs $100 to let me start a new toon at 50 w/o having to deal with farming or other crap. And I'm a 7 -year vet.

Quote:I think you're missing a point that with that many mobs, at that level, things will hit you no matter what. You need the OJs and greens / regen / heals to layer on top of your soft-cap def.O
Sound like there are actually 2 softcaps - One for everyday use and than one for running +4/+8?
I can only survive +4/+8 fire farms on my SS/Fire brute. My Elec/SD got shredded. -
Go /Fire -- if it's dead it can't hit you. I have a plant/fire/fire and I *loves me* some Embrace of Fire + Fireball + Rain of Flaming Deathly Bits (after they've been Rooted). I also have ~32% ranged def (so 1 small purpl soft-caps me).
-
Slot roots for damage, including a proc.
2 recharge in Firey Embrace for more flaming goodness.
Lose spirit tree worthless.
Consider a -RES proc and Neg En proc in Flytrap
Get enough recharge to run Blaze-Blast-Incinerate.
(And go Fire APP for more burning goodness -- seriously the dmg from FE+Fireball+RoF is gasm-spasm worthy). -
Quote:It is a very cool build and not *crazy* expensive, which is cool. Only bummer I could see was lack of Overload? I mean that is such a great T9 relatively speaking (HP is effectively +Res, and improves Energize right?).Here's my build, also posted in that thread in the A&P main forum. Soft-capped to everything but Psi without E.Drain, perma hasten and near perma-energize.[/code]
Also it looked like you have Entropic Aura set "on" for 10 targets which is really upping your recharge across the board. With only 1 target it looks a lot more normal. -

My first COV toon was an SS/EA brute and I remember when I got to Grandville how completely owned I was getting by critters there wth Toxic attacks. Ugh.
-
What's the thinking on StJ/DA?
I have never been able to handle making a /DA -- though I came close looking at Iggy's DB/DA build -- and I'm wondering if StJ is the answer. -
For a scrapper WM/SD is one of the best combos out there. You can soft-cap, buff HP, and get a huge damage buff from AAO. I posted a build elsewhere in this forum. Shield Charge is also a fantastic AOE to layer on top of WM's AOEs.
Can't really talk about other secondaries much -- You could build a sturdy WM/INV and a WM/WP. But on a scrapper, I really favor +dmg secondaries like /SD (or I suppose FA if you really wanted to go +dmg). -
I'm really confused reading this thread. Previously it was pretty clearly beat to death on the scrapper board that the best Claws/SR attack chain for a brute (with highly procc'd attacks, say 1-2 dmg procs in each) was
FU->Focus->Slash (with -RES in slash)
and that this was better than any chain that included Eviscerate
I run this chain on my Claws/SR, it requires super high recharge, and I only get Follow Up to stack 2x.
So I'm confused here seeing talk of 3x stacking of FU. And also that chains for Brutes are better containing other attacks?
My incarnated & dpre-incarnated times / dps / and the build I used are here:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showpost.php?p=3861133&postcount=1983
So help me understand: is the conclusion of this thread that there is a BETTER attack chain for Brutes than the one I am using? And is the conclusion also that Scrapper claws outperforms Brute claws ('cause that's different than a lot of what I read in the other threads). -
-
Apparenty it's purchaseable ...
Already having my fill of /SD toons the question is
StJ/EA (yay 2 new shinies)
or something else ??
Anyone have a good feel for the set from beta? I remember there being some complaints about the AOE spin attack and how to maximize it. -
Plus pets don't get the recharge buffs from Time right? They get any movement speed buff but not recharge buff, since pet powers were coded not to take external recharge buffs.

Forums are dead lately. Not sure why.
