Plant/Fire/Fire Permadom Help

Black_Assassin

Posted

Hello forum readers. I could really use some input on this build. I am currently at lvl 33 with my Plant/Fire Dom and am loving it. I dont have much inf and tried to put together a build with the powers I most enjoy. I am not sure if I am breaking any rules in how I slotted the build so advice would be highly appreciated.

In-case it makes a difference in planning for waaaaay down the road, I want to try and gain enough inf for a few more purples so I can have permadom without hasten. I am also thinking of dropping incinerate and picking up vengeance for one more LotG and freeing up a few slots for maybe proc(s) in roots or more in my fly trap? I like to play mostly range and haven't even slotted incinerate at level 33...

I made a couple of changes. Note I am wondering if I should remove one of the Acc/Dmg IOs from roots in place of Posi proc. Not sure which would be better. Thank you to all who can help me out!

This is about where I am on live. Still have some purples to slot, but I've gotten lazy the past few weeks. The character is extremely fast paced and slightly suicidal, solos comfortably on +3/+8. I don't like the medicine pool here. Enemies are dropping insps so fast, with a few combine binds you're all set. Animation time on aid self is more dangerous than not using it. Too busy toasting people to heal anyone else when I team, rather let them eat dirt and finish off the mob, then drop a wakie. Slackers.

With perma dom you don't need consume. Again, it's more time spent doing something that's not locking down or murdering. With slotted stamina and domination filling end every 70 seconds it's just not necessary.

The picks you use as lotg mules are personal preference I suppose. I use the stealth pool since I can just take the powers out of my tray and forget about them.

Also:
t4 musculature and barrier. Between barrier, purple insps, and demonic I have defense when I need it. Does this character die often? Yes. But I'm slightly suicidal like I said, and usually not more than once per rotp cycling.

You may also be interested in my build from a month and a half ago. The thread and resulting discussion is located here.

Mine is slightly different from the others in that I went for high ranged defense (ended up with 32.5%) so I have slightly different priorities.

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=271923

I skipped Fly Trap because I do so much AoE damage that it seemed unnecessary. Also, concept reasons.

Not super satisfied with the slotting of roots or creepers on this build as the former needs more accuracy and the latter needs more recharge.

I would also like to remark on Chocolate Bacon's statement about consume.
Personally I found that after going Seeds (15 end) -> Roots (13) -> Creepers (26!) -> Rain of Fire (32!) [end costs unslotted of course] at the start of a fight puts a BIG hit on my endurance even when those numbers are more like 12, 10, 26, and 26, and with the +10 endurance from accolades.

While you won't be using these much more than once per fight (roots really is the only one that gets used more than once because it misses so often, hence why I need to reslot), plant/fire/fire kills SO QUICKLY that you will be starting a LOT of fights, and you use a fair bit of endurance with blaze and fire ball (which cost like 12 and 18 respectively, unslotted).

While Domination recharging in 70-75 seconds helps (really I think it's necessary), I still find myself running low on endurance every other fight, which is why I run Ageless. EVEN THEN, I still run out of endurance sometimes and I think I'll probably be swapping combustion for consume (as they can both take Obliterations anyway and Combustion is a totally worthless attack anyway.)

On the other hand I keep leadership, combat jumping, sprint, weave, and tough on pretty much all the time and I know other people aren't running that many toggles.

On the subject of Combustion - I hate it. It animates slowly and feels very weak, and trying to position myself in the middle of a mob to use it is actually difficult because if they're tight enough to make combustion worth using, they're actually too tightly packed to fit yourself in there . Plus, combustion, being PBAoE, doesn't get along with Fire Breath (a much better attack) or Seeds (which you probably won't need to use twice in one fight, but still), and imo makes it harder to intelligently target with Fire Ball.
The only good argument I've heard for Combustion is that you can put it on autofire to build domination (slooowwllyyy), but I would rather take a snipe power to do that (by activating the power and interrupting it). This is much faster, you get the benefit of having a snipe power (occasionally useful), you get better set bonuses (sting of the manticore has a 7.5% recharge bonus to obliteration's 5%, and they both have the 3% damage bonus), and sting of the manticore is MASSIVELY cheaper than obliteration.

Finally on the subject of incarnate powers -
Alpha: I've run Musculature Core Paragon for a while, purely for damage, but I'm working to try out Intuition - slightly less damage, but a 20% range boost is a major help to seeds (when mobs are slightly more spread out), and lets you do silly things with Roots (immobilize mobs from out of their range, use your superior range to kill them). The latter is made moot by the fact that you can just seeds and kill everyone, but still, it might help.
Interface: Reactive Radial Paragon. Thinking about trying out the confuse one (to cover Seeds missing) or the Immobilize one (Roots missing) but I think those problems are better solved with better slotting. Also reactive does fire, and you're fire, so...
Destiny: I like ageless just for endurance; a case can be made for the other ones as well.
Lore/Judgement: Whatever... I go Rularuu/Pyronic.

Hey everyone. Wow thanks a lot for the input! I've never been into builds so much as I have been just powers I like to play. I made a few more changes. I left the powers choices I had and just moved some slots and changed enhancements around. I really wanted blazing bolt for building domination. The only power I wanted to sacrifice for it was vengeance but I know that's a useful power on TF's but Id still get the 7.5% recharge. Think this would be an OK switch or is vengeance desired for end game content?

I don't really know why you're taking Aid Self, as you should be killing things so fast that you'll always have greens when needed. Ditto for Aid Other (everything should be dead anyway, who cares if your teammates died).

The Coercive Persuasion proc is gold in Seeds, because seeds will occasionally miss a guy and having contagious confusion in there makes it way easier to keep an entire mob confused.

I didn't bother slotting Flares as Fire Blast and Blaze recharge plenty quick enough to use for ST damage. Then again my chain is Blast -> Incinerate -> Blaze and you might prefer the all-ranged chain that uses Flares.

After playing this char for a while I don't really like slotting Roots for damage and would rather just slot it a bit for acc/end and put the other 3 slots somewhere else.

I would 5 (or 6) slot Vines and 4 slot Strangler rather than the other way around. If I needed to use Vines that means I got a bad Seeds and I really want Vines to count, and with Seeds you don't really need to cycle your ST hold around that much (read: at all).

Rain of Fire is a really good place for a Posi proc since it gets 2 chances to trigger and you are slotting it for over 100% damage anyway. I dropped the Acc/Dam/End enhancement for it.

I don't like 5 slotting Tactics personally (and didn't take it, electing for Maneuvers+Assault+Vengeance).

So after reading what you've all given me and playing some more with my character I've come up with yet another new build. If anyone is still reading this form please let me know if there's anything else I should chance.

Hmm Mids says I am at cap for the 6.5% recharge bonus from RoF:

Positron's Blast
(Rain of Fire)
2.5% (0.04 End/sec) Recovery
1.58% Resistance(Fire,Cold)
9% Enhancement(Accuracy)
6.25% Enhancement(RechargeTime) >Cap
3.13% Resistance(Toxic)

I have 6 bonus at 7.5% but these are not marked as capped? Can someone tell me why?! I need to fix this asap! Thank you!

The only easy but *expensive* fix I see is slotting Apocalypse in blaze. If anyone knows a way I can fix this without losing an entire set bonus please, please, please.

Why haven't you slotted health or stamina? get some recovery in there; you're going to need it.

LotG +7.5% recharge is treated as a separate bonus from the 7.5% recharge from sets so you could have, say, 5 LotG and then 5 sets that give 7.5% rech (2 basilisks gaze, 1 snipe, 2 kinetic crash f.ex) and then end up with 10 instances of 7.5% recharge without hitting the cap.

EDIT: the other thing is that you don't really need to fix your slotting since 113% recharge is easily good enough. Mine runs at 96.5% recharge which gives me plenty of time and has hasten about 1 second off being perma.

Thanks for the facts on the LotGs. What would I want in health (I'm not at a computer otherwise I'd check in mids)? I found as you said above inspirations drop frequent enough I have greens when needed. And my endurence always seems to be filled between consume and domination I wanted to add more dmg. But then again im not running the lvl 50 build. What's good in stamina?

My end goal for the build is 120% recharge so domination can run wild. I know I've a large margarine of time but I seemed to get their easily that i'm too close not to take it to the next level of fun. And with the 6.25% recharge being gone I sit at ~107%, opposit of my goal X.x

I have Numina's Convalsecense +regen/recovery and Miracle +recovery slotted in Health, and Stamina 4-slotted with Performance Shifters (endmod, endmod/acc, endmod/rech, and the +end proc).

Granted I'm not popping domination quite as often as you are (75 seconds instead of 70) but I do need the endurance when it comes up, and using ageless pretty regularly (every 3-4 min or so).

I would probably take the damage/range HOs out of Blaze and Fire Breath - Blaze is still going to have noticably less range than a lot of your stuff and Fire Breath already has a range enhancement from the Positron's Blast. I'd also take a slot from Strangler (4 slots is really plenty, it doesn't need to be heavily enhanced and you don't need the 5% status resistance if you're a permadom) and from Rain of Fire (that 6th positron's blast is not really doing you any good, get rid of acc/dam or acc/dam/end). That frees up 4 slots - 3 for Stamina, 1 for Health - that you can use.

As for status resistance, you don't really need that last enhancement in Fire Shield either.

I don't know why you're saying "with the 6.25% recharge gone"... since you're over the cap, it's already gone, and you're not getting any benefit from it. That means you can take two slots out of Rain of Fire (IIRC the power doesn't benefit from accuracy that much) and reassign them.

Really quickly on Creepers- I've been informed that putting enhancements from sets isn't that good in creepers, since using targeted AoE enhancements will only benefit their own targeted AoE attacks and not their ST ranged or ST melee (i think they have those). Therefore I'd recommend swapping out the positron's blast acc/dam and detonation acc/dam for a generic acc and generic dam IO, or for acc/dam Hami-Os (expensive probably).

It definitly wouldn't hurt to have more recovery. I'll try out the slots in health/stamina.

I have the 5 slots for the 5% recharge and the status resist just comes with it.

And what I mean about the 6.25% recharge gone is that the entire time I was finalizing my build I wasn't aware I was at cap so I learned I was 'losing' the bonus (even though it really never counted). So I was saying I didn't want to lose using a set that gave a +rch bonus in one of my skills. Was hoping there was some set I did't notice that would give any amount of rch so im not further than I thought from 120%.

Creepers, great point! I'll change that out...

I won't be near a computer for a couple days. I'll make the changes and post later.

You've been extremlly helpful! Thanks again for all your adds! You've really filled the holes.

What you could do is swap Flares for Incinerate and use Crushing Impact instead of Decimation. Crushing Impact would get you another 5% recharge and you'd be losing the unnecessary 6.25% from Decimation.
EDIT: disregard that you obviously have to take flares
but if you could find another power to take you could take crushing impact and put the slots from flares into that instead... maybe super jump? i get by with sprint and ninja run and I'm not that much slower than other people.

Incinerate is a better attack anyway... would much rather have it slotted than Flares.

And yeah I am amazed you got to level 40 without slotting stamina... this is by far my most endurance-heavy character.

That would be a good switch, i'm just not into melee and like the all ranged play. I'm going to think on it X.x But it's a great switch keep some rch and have a higher dmg attack. Its a win for sure. I need to purchase ninja run and see if I can manage :P !

Endurance heavy, hell yes. I've had to pop a blue now and again but it's been pretty smooth sailing. Once I have the opportunity to implement these changes I'll post what I find.

Edit: I forgot to ask. Why use end mods with rech and acc when stamina doesn't benefit. Wouldn't two end IO's give greater recovery?

Edit2: I realized you've solved it for me! If I manage one purple set in a attatck, preferably blaze that's 117.55% rchg then if I drop super jump for combate jumping slot my 5th LotG for 7.5% brings me to 125.05% rchg! I can surely manage ninja run + cj + sprint as my travel power for that! After all, jet packs can be made for the high locations and I can still enjoy a completly ranged style! ^.^

To answer your question about the slotting of Stamina - 3 plain old Endmod IOs will get you to 127.2% endmod, which gets hit by ED down to 99.08%. Using the Performance Shifter IOs leaves you with 91.78 after ED, which, while indeed less than 99.08%, comes with the set bonuses with performance shifter which includes a 2.5% recovery bonus, which comes out...

Okay actually after taking a closer look at it they end up very nearly identical - on my build its 3.25 end/sec with the performance shifters and 3.24 end/sec with the vanilla endmod IOs. Performance Shifters give you a slight run speed and HP bonus though.

Upon closer investigation I would probably save the 40mil or so (guessing) for those 3 performance shifter IOs (keep the proc of course) and use the way cheaper vanilla IOs instead.

There's no reason to five slot your holds with basilisk's; the 5% status resistance isn't doing anything for you, and they'll perform just fine at four slots. You could also consider whether the third slots in hasten and embrace are worth it for you; you're only getting 5s and 2s (respectively) faster recharges out of them. The sixth slot in seeds of confusion is also fairly pointless.

There isn't much reason to take or run tactics with as much IOing as you're doing. You have a ton of inherent accuracy anyway, and it's endurance you could use for other things (replace it with assault if you want, for the damage bonus.) A five slot obliteration in consume would give you a lot better bonuses and a more useful power. One too many 6.25s means you can unslot the decimation in flares and use those slots for something else.

I would also take fly trap; it is pretty great.

@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)

Or get better recovery over time (subject to RNG for short-term) by 3 Slotting Perf Shifter: Chance for +End, EndMod, and either EndMod/Acc or End/Mod Rech.

Especially if you have any +End from Accolades or Sets, the Perf Shifter Proc gives 10% of Current MAX End. (E.g. Default Character gets 10 End ~50 seconds, hit with the Vanguard Curse it's 5 end ~50 seconds, and with both +End Accolades 11 End ~50 seconds. [100, 50, 110 Base Endurance respectively] The ~50 seconds figure is the Proc has a chance to fire every 10 Seconds in an auto power, and has a 20% rate.)

Basically, the Perf Shifter Proc grants you .2 EPS recoveryin an auto on a default character, that completely ignores any ED slotting of EndMod.

I don't think any combination of 3-slotting will get you better recovery than either of the 4-slotting ideas I was talking about - i was considering the difference between 4x performance shifter and 1x performance shifter (proc) + 3x vanilla IO

My bust, read that as only 3 slotting the set.

Alright, I think I have fixed what I needed. Luckily a friend has helped me with (1) Apocalypse IO. Thank you bro .

I decided in the end I didn't want fly trap. AoE is high enough and when there are no AoE heals he dies anyways. Plus, the single target dmg isnt that high and on the AV fights I put him out... one hit death...

I ended up with 201.3% rch in my build with hasten. Which I can say is much more than I originally intended, but hell, I'm ecstatic!

Please let me know any last changes or thoughts on my slotting. I wanna say all the power choices are staying but then again I got rid of aid self :P and have yet to regret it!

Also, I had 3 slots I was not sure what to do with, I put a recharge in in FB and RoF as well as a Range in Blaze. Know anything better to do with the slots without changing powers? I am trying to keep all my recharge; I did not get rid of the status resistant IO from Fire Shield.

You could use the extra slots to add more procs or more damage to roots. Its damage is high enough that you might find it worth enhancing.

I understand the desire to keep the set bonus in fire shield, but the status resistance IO is pretty pointless, because with domination up very few status effects will affect you anyway.
