  1. Actually I think you may have something there with bots.

With bringer of pain giving 17% res and bodyguard reducing damage mace mastery seems an ok ppp. The bot shield should stack with the defence in mace mastery and power boost may mean you are sitting on almost 30% res to all and 50% defence for 15 seconds when you need it.

Add to this double healing and it seems an ideal ppp. Fully slotted and with hasten 4secs on both web envelope and cocoon should be enough to keep folk from getting away.

Painbringer on assault bot and hopefully damage should be enough to kill folk especially with -regen on attacks.

Well thats the theory I'll be going with, if anyone sees a big fault in it please say.

    Thanks again for the help.
  2. Hi guys Ive decided to have a */pain MM for pvp and would like to know what you would advise for the primary set.

The way I see it I want a primary that allows me to stick to my target as pain has nothing but a pbaoe res/def debuff.

I dont know if I am right but my thoughts so far is that:

Necromancy: Only control seems to come from lich so no stacking, zombies move slow and are more aoe then single target, knights however would be good for burst damage but probably not enough to nuke kill anything but squishies.

Ninjas: Fast, caltrops could work well after web from ppp, possible control from oni, -regen from darts. Seems ok but is it enough?

Robotics: Ranged, big bot/pain bringer, +7.5% defence on self (possible to get 15%?), how effective are drones for pvp control? -regen on some attacks and -perception attack which would be very good combined with stealth to make opponent lose target (deadly I think vs MM). Good but Ive heard folk think drones have little effect.

Thugs: Good synergy with bringer of pain on brute and -fly on hurl but very little else in the form of control.

Mercenaries: Ranged, -perception on flash bang, stuns and web granades on 2nd pets must be useful and good synergy with serum/pain/commando. Lethal damage damage though and maybe too much DoT, no -regen.

I think I am tempted to go merc, based on this but maybe someone can tell me if I am getting it right ans how good merc is at locking down a target in pvp?
  3. Yeah Ive noticed that aswell. So it isnt just because folk can out distance us due to lingering radiation having little effect?

I guess it is just very hard to balance these things though. I remember being on top of that tower block in warburg and pretty much every player involved was on their controller. When you could slow melee all but spines was a bit of a joke to duel with so maybe some changes were needed....some.

On the other hand I had few problems on my ma/regen and there was a very good BS/SR in the french team who didnt seem to have much trouble. I think to some degree things were changed so melee didnt have to put much thought into their builds.
  4. Hay dude. Dont know if you remember me from 3 years back in warburg. We dueled quite a bit aswell with many others. I was on my ill/rad there and jumped about 24/7 to the complains of most folk I fought with if that helps, (Big Bob, bloke in a suit).

Probably cant remember me but I do remember that if I used terror on your imp and got PA on you I could win even though my guy was only level 39.

Rad is still great though, maybe the best set in the game, but Ill has no damage at all. All it has is blind, spectral wounds and PA. If you dont use aoe hold you have no containment, blind is the highest of Ill's attacks but if you slot it with damage you can wave bye bye to any hold.
PA can be avoided, oh and yeah phantasm always did do hardly any damage. Add to this folk now having psi resistance the damage is even less.

You can kite and live forever with rad, maybe even with kin but no practicing in the arena, no matter how long, can give illusion any damage. Fire on the other hand is different (Im guessing at least).
  5. Hi there sorry to hear your ill/kin isnt so good in RV but I dont think it is your fault or will change at 50 to be honest.

"Ill/kin might be a fun toon to play, but it's pretty redundant in PvP now"

I think this sums it up. I have tried my ill/rad and now believe it isnt worth pvping with. I think it has more chance then kin to kite as I dont have to be in melee range to heal nor do I need to hit so I can still keep alive vs melee.

The problem that I see most though is that even if you could kite easily (and maybe that could be done with more practice) then you would still be spending most of your time trying to heal and therefore not buffing yourself.

Without buffs and even with PA out ill damage is, I think, the worst damage of any AT so you just arnt going to kill anyone. I honestly feel all the skill in the world can only mean the fights end in a draw, you kiting and keeping alive, him getting bored and falling asleep.

For dedicated team pvp kin used to be good but in open pvp I used to find empath or storm better support for +perception buffs and never liked kin heal tbh.

My first toon was a controller and I hope I am wrong but untill I see an illusion doing well and work out how they do it I have decided to find the ultimate MM combo instead.

Hopefully though you will find a way and humiliate me in RV to teach me for turning traitor. Good luck.

    And in English?
  7. More awareness of the arena would be a good thing I think all there is now is a loading screen mentioning it. Ive always been against rewards for pvp though as it ends up with pvpers using pvp to gain things without doing pvp.

For instance if arena rewards were high enough to be an incentive then folk will just rig it up to farm. I remember in SC when players were screaming that they were there for badges and not for pvp and then screaming all the more when this resulted in them getting attacked all the more.

If we can attract folk to pvp, and most teams Ive ever joined there is always one person afterwards who accepts an arena challenge, then the reward of being able to pvp should be enough I think.

As I say every time I team with folk I ask if we can arena after and almost always someone is up for it, I would hate a day to go by without at least one arena fight, so the demand is certainly out there.
  8. Sorry for the late reply. I love my MA/Regen scrapper and think MA is a very good set. Mostly because of crippling axe kick with -speed and -fly etc.

I must admit I find build formats too complex to follow especially as Im not really up on the new enchancements but looking at it do you have any vertical movement or means to even touch a flyer?

Swift and/or hurdle slotted is also worth doing so folk dont literally run rings round you. You cant really count on them standing about in your caltrops.

Sorry if Ive missed someting though or am horribly out of date.
  9. "Did you have suppression turned off as it really should be noticeable?"

Sorry I havnt a clue as I didnt set up the games and didnt know to ask, in fact Im not 100% sure if I know what you mean. If there is a choice then does that not mean arena can be fought on the old suppression rules? Still a lot I need to catch up on.

What I do know is that I have slotted SS and SJ on my toons and was outleveled by 10-26 levels and could still not be killed by melee. One BS crit with buildup could almost kill me but I could always get away and heal up. The slow effect on lingering radiation didnt seem to be working nearly as well as it used to though.

I always used to hop about like zebedee on speed to the annoyance of some folk and same happend here with us giving up in frustration. I didnt however just run away I did try to kill him, just couldnt get enough damage out.

That was ill/rad and rad/psi vs BS/WP. One thing is that this was without epics so weapon mastery didnt come into play which would have changed things but then it always would have done. DR on heals didnt seem to hurt much.

Playing MA/Regen vs Mind/Kin to see how mez was it was quite easy for me to stick onto the controller and keep him grounded most the time with axe kick. 1 second immunity on teleport foe was annoying though as I had to then wait before doing axe kick, crane kick.

End of the day though my psi and illusion sets didnt seem to have the damage to kill anything. Whilst before I did fine with my ill/rad with willpower scrapper fully debuffed, all pets out and throwing in everything my end and PA ran out with him on 50%, no insps used.

Willpower wasnt about when I played but this was never the case before vs other scrappers. Likewise Mind/Kin didnt seem to have much chance vs MA/Regen.

I think this is due to my tendancy before to go for sets with very fast activation times which now do less damage due to changes. Annoying but at the end of the day just comes down to adaptation I guess.

"come out of base raids with higher numbers of kills than the Blasters - got a screenshot somewhere with her with the highest kill total for a raid, gave me a good giggle"

Nice1. I remember the first time I tested rad/psi in SC I got 50 rep which I thought was pretty nifty on a defender (probably means nothing now).

Yeah I think organised pvp SGs were far better suited to arena as in SC it usually ended up with a group of heroes turtled near villain base. Sometimes fun though as I would then log out and get my spines stalker on to try to kill the folk Id just been teamed with.

So villains are outnumbered in RV now? Was thinking of making a Bot/Pain MM with taunt for a laugh, maybe I could come help you out a bit... if I ever get him leveled.

Got meself Mid's Hero Designer v1.4 and trying to plan out builds a little (dont know how accurate it is they usually had a few things wrong). Was thinknig nec/storm MM but its been done.

Think Fire/Fire scrapper and Bot/Pain this time round. Are there many of those out there?

P.S. OMG I really do have bad verbal diarrhea.
  10. Well just managed to get into the arena. Tested my Ill/Rad, MA/Regen and Rad/Psi out.

Apart from not being able to kill a BS/WP scrapper with my psi damage I really didnt find suppression to be so aweful and it still seems possible to kite (just as well as I could almost be one shot by BS).

I guess I just need to see how RV is but so far it honestly doesnt seem that bad.
  11. A well implemented pvp system is one of the best ways to attract players with the least amount of work required on behalf of the developers. Once set in place, unlike pve content, there is far less need for change as the veriety required to keep players interested comes directly from the creativity of the players and not the developers.

I remember watching the animated workmen building the arena and looking forward to the time we could test all these power sets on one another. While it took some time to catch on (half the time only an MA/SR scrapper in there asking for fights) by the time I left the game in 2006 the pvp community was really getting into it. Perhaps smaller then the pve community but actually far more interaction between the servers and hero/villan sides.

As knightstalker says there was very little reason to have such sweeping changes in the first place. It is quite shocking to see the contrast between the lower level pvp areas back then and those now and the emptyness of of the arena. A lot of pvp in an is based on player input and attitude and there seems to be a consensus both in the US and EU that i13 had a very negative effect on the numbers of pvpers.

I would honestly like to know how dedicated the developers are in correcting this as there are many factors that could make CoX one of the leading PvE AND PvP games.

After over ten years of online pvp in pretty much every game that offers it I would say the following is unique in CoX:

    1. A combination of very varied and interesting power sets that feel unique to this game.

    2. One of if not the best formats to have a player controlled arena in which the results are then laid out afterwards. Other games have arenas but CoX gives the players far more control over the settings and feedback afterwards.

    3. PvP areas that not only dont force a limitation on numbers involved or prevent players from returning after they have outleveled the area whilst not allowing "twinking". It struck me that WAR has taken on a little of this in their open PVP.

Given these factors one would really expect the CoX pvp community to be happy and striving especially if one had seen how it was growing back in 2006.

The impression given to me is that either, due to competition from other games, so many people have left and the developers have given up trying to correct the possition. Or that they are taking a long time to admit a mistake was made and correct it.

This is a pitty because as I say the game basics are there for them to previde a really successful pvp system on par with or even exceeding those in place in other online games.

I would really like to know what the developer's current view on pvp is. Whether they feel pve is of greater importance and how they are planning to address pvp issues in the future.

Dull Pain just increases your max hit points and heals you :?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It has been a long time since I last played but when I did with Dull Pain on you could often just stand there getting hit and hide would come back on and once on hits often didnt remove hide.

Sadly I havnt re-activated my villans account so I cant check on my old spines/regen but since they are so easy to level maybe Ill nip on and get one to level 10 today.

Ill post what I find out if anyone is interested. DoTs etc. not removing hide was always very useful in pvp I found.
  13. Dont think it is in any way madder then my aim to be the first controller to level to 50 only using brawl.
  14. Gorgog

    Electric Melee

Does Dull Pain still prevent you from being knocked out of hide? That was the main reason I went regen with my stalker.
  15. Oh one last thing in order to at last get one char to 50 Ill be doing missions in Warburg. Whatever anyone does please dont come and pick on me there as that would be truely aweful!
  16. "There are new and terrible ways of PLing, but you should be careful - the devs will ban avatars that level too fast."

Lol, great minds. Only Ive always turned down PLing anyway as I feel you end up with a character you arnt in touch with.

"Execpt they lost every single when they fought those Vindicate guys"

There was one french team that stood out the most Im terrible with names though. Pitty I missed seeing Vindicate in action.

Hi Warscythe. I remember your name from forums I think. Had a nice wee chat with Waffles when I came on. I feel like too much of a nub at the mo but it would be great if you guys would consider me if I do stay about, or even just to get togather in arena for some fun.

Remember most the names you posted and Stryker seems to be still around though probably doesnt remember me as I was only in AoW a while before I left. Wait Zak! That was the leader back then, I really am aweful on names. He still kicking about?

Nice to see actually that there are still quite a few folk still here as I recognise every one of you at least from forums.

Looking at i13 patch notes I cant help feeling that they ended up getting the opposite of what they wanted. Instead of attracting new people to pvp they seem to have alienated many of the old ones and not attracted any new players.

Oh well gotta work with what we have. No points crying over what was lost... unless we can convince them to rethink things a bit.

P.S. Thanks for the link Golden Girl. Looks like I have tons to catch up on.
  17. Thanks guys. Maybe we can get some of the old pvp back. Its a pitty really because the implementation of pvp is really quite good here just the AT balance and lack of interest of players seems to be lacking a little.

1st char I logged onto was in SC but it was a ghost town, I guess Ill have to play my higher level toons though Im bored with em.

Determined to make Rad/Psi work though for solo pvp, seems he hasnt changed any so must be other ATs are a lot better now then.

Well once Im used to the game again Im going to make sure there is some pvp fun if only its folk killing me.

Oh two more questions. Is it still possible to speed level stalker through paper missions and does dull pain still prevent you from being knocked out of hide?

Take care. Have fun. Hope we meet up on one side or the other.
  18. Hi guys! Just coming back from from an ikkle brake (3 years) and while I download all the patches I was wondering how things are now?

I know much of this I could get from going through tons of threads but Im lazy and hate the search engine here.

    1. Are the old names like Tainted Greek and Filth still about?

    2. Is Art of War still around?

    3. Going into PvP zones will I still be able to have a good time with as many folk as there used to be?

    4. Did the French ever get beaten and are there still tournaments being held?

    5. Did my last AT combo Rad/Psi defender ever catch on and is it any good now for pvp?

    and

    7. What new sets/powers are out there (think I left just before they were about to introduse MM thugs)?

    8. Oh and has the horribly long anim times on archery set been fixed?

Looking forward to seeing everyone in SC etc. (save for the stalkers ofcourse...).

    3. Are there still
  19. Spines overall will probably get more kills due to range. If however you find a way to keep your opponent in melee range MA will easily out damage spines.

TP Foe and weapons mastery can help get many players into range and keep them there but still range will probably win out IMHO.
  20. Gorgog

    Shockwave in pvp

Yup seen the same and no idea why, follow up is good and can knock someone out of AS as you say while setting you up for further damage.

End of the day though Ive played MA in SC and unfortunately as much as I was likeing Claws, esp for PvE, I think MA is the better choice and the hardest hitting there, even the changes to Claws have little effect .

Been interesting reading how you use it though and maybe someday Ill come back to Claws. Do you use spin if you get placated? Will be getting dragon's tail for that and the KB but spin would also work fine.

P.S. Hehe, I use BU on anything that moves as often as I can, even for MMs, still cant 1 hit stalkers, well not in SC anyway. Also TP Foe is really for after they try to get out of range, 2acc,2dist,2rech, works a treat .

  21. [ QUOTE ]
Icicles are there for antstalker defence mostly and to test if fleas comment about them begin highly damaging is correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No reason not to get Icicles but Chilling Embrace is enough to prevent any AS as its autohit.
  22. Was there more then one player holding you?

As far as I know two players can perma hold if the holds are timed filling in the others gaps. Though could be wrong. Also some mez effects do not count towards suppression of others, think for instance hold and sleep have seperate suppression.
  23. If your wanting to PvP with a stalker not getting Stealth is almost certainly a mistake. Even if you get invis from a friend stealth will get you to your cap and without it many players wil see you.

PvE though it doesnt really matter .
  24. Gorgog

    Rollin a Stalker

Other then EM MA is the best since it has the highest damage single person attacks (any attack that can hit 2+ foes does not auto crit from hide).

Nin is a good set but you need to rely on BFs or Acrobatics vs KB which can be a strong weakness.

Regens tend to get integration detoggled alot and as such left vulnarable.

SR is probably the best as, esp with elude, it helps most in keeping hide on (through avoiding damage) and has +perc.

That being said Energy for its res to TP foe may save your skin often aswell.

As long as you never stick about though secondary doesnt realy matter too much .
  25. It is based apon rank, i.e. Minion-AV.

For PvP it is worked out the same as vs a minion which some scrappers complain about as brute fury in PvP is built up as if they are fighting an AV (higher rank more fury built up).

    P.S. Not theory
