PvP idiot - guidance needed

Hey guys,
ok, I'm a 48 month PvE vet, occasional player type when I have a spare hour or two after work.

My problem is, I'm fickle. I'm an Altoholic but recently found myself in love with my ill/kin troller. Gotten to 44 and stumbled into RV for a nose about.

Now I know troller survivability is laughable in PvP at times without adequate slotting, so I need help. I've done my best to try and ignore IO's and sets coz it makes my head hurt trying to crunch all the numbers (AND i understand doing it right costs a fortune, and I only have a meagre 40-odd million inf) and that sucks the fun out of the game for me - but I want to play PvP and not get one shotted by 4 stalkers. I tried whirlwind with repel, I slotted up tactics and got my sup invis defenses all SO'd up so thought I was in with at least a small chance. And yes, I know waiting til I get to 50 and then doing the slotting/pvp thing would probably up my chances but still...I'm fickle and impatient, hehe.

Obviously now I know I'm an idiot. Please help...

First off, you are not an Idiot for not knowing how best to deal with Post-I13 pvp, I stand with the crowd that rolls my eyes in despair at the current situation. The short of it is that pvp is so hopelessly genericised now that there are no rules. But Paragon studios are apparently happy with it... so it stays.

Go in, have fun, If you are not having fun, leave.
Ignore the ridiculous smacktalk and ego of players that think defeats mean anything post I-13, there is little skill to it nowadays.

ohhhhh mother's love - you healed my tank last night whilst I was getting multi AS'd....i still love you for that.

Ah well, I guess I just try my best and hope to smack some stalkers down in the process...

I think people are misunderstood, I find good players now are more obvious that pre i13. Especially when survivability comes into play for those who play squishies, not many people do though. They all seem to play Tankers, Scrappers and Stalkers on the EU side of things.

Ill/kin might be a fun toon to play, but it's pretty redundant in PvP now, to be quite honest mate. The supressions added to movement in PvP virtually negate any advantage of having a kin on the team.

The only real advantage of having a Kinetics on the team now is for ID, merely for the TP resistance. Also Speed Boost for team members with not so good end. (lol Rooks' SS/DA)

If you need anymore help just ask dude and i'll try help if possible.

Hi there sorry to hear your ill/kin isnt so good in RV but I dont think it is your fault or will change at 50 to be honest.

"Ill/kin might be a fun toon to play, but it's pretty redundant in PvP now"

I think this sums it up. I have tried my ill/rad and now believe it isnt worth pvping with. I think it has more chance then kin to kite as I dont have to be in melee range to heal nor do I need to hit so I can still keep alive vs melee.

The problem that I see most though is that even if you could kite easily (and maybe that could be done with more practice) then you would still be spending most of your time trying to heal and therefore not buffing yourself.

Without buffs and even with PA out ill damage is, I think, the worst damage of any AT so you just arnt going to kill anyone. I honestly feel all the skill in the world can only mean the fights end in a draw, you kiting and keeping alive, him getting bored and falling asleep.

For dedicated team pvp kin used to be good but in open pvp I used to find empath or storm better support for +perception buffs and never liked kin heal tbh.

My first toon was a controller and I hope I am wrong but untill I see an illusion doing well and work out how they do it I have decided to find the ultimate MM combo instead.

Hopefully though you will find a way and humiliate me in RV to teach me for turning traitor. Good luck.

My advice is the 3 A's.

Arena
Arena
Arena

Here you can play against 1 opponent with no one else interfering on either side and there are no NPC and not any safe areas to run to.

You will learn in here what powers work well against which AT's and Sets. You will learn how to move well. You will learn which or your strengths overcome which weaknesses in your opponent. You will learn what your weaknesses are and maybe how to compensate. You will learn how to stop your opponent's movement.

PvP is so different from PvE that your chain will have to change. No longer will PA, AoE hold get you any results in the arena.

Hay dude. Dont know if you remember me from 3 years back in warburg. We dueled quite a bit aswell with many others. I was on my ill/rad there and jumped about 24/7 to the complains of most folk I fought with if that helps, (Big Bob, bloke in a suit).

Probably cant remember me but I do remember that if I used terror on your imp and got PA on you I could win even though my guy was only level 39.

Rad is still great though, maybe the best set in the game, but Ill has no damage at all. All it has is blind, spectral wounds and PA. If you dont use aoe hold you have no containment, blind is the highest of Ill's attacks but if you slot it with damage you can wave bye bye to any hold.
PA can be avoided, oh and yeah phantasm always did do hardly any damage. Add to this folk now having psi resistance the damage is even less.

You can kite and live forever with rad, maybe even with kin but no practicing in the arena, no matter how long, can give illusion any damage. Fire on the other hand is different (Im guessing at least).

Rad is next to useless since i13 as the toggles are constantly dropping sadly.

Yeah Ive noticed that aswell. So it isnt just because folk can out distance us due to lingering radiation having little effect?

I guess it is just very hard to balance these things though. I remember being on top of that tower block in warburg and pretty much every player involved was on their controller. When you could slow melee all but spines was a bit of a joke to duel with so maybe some changes were needed....some.

On the other hand I had few problems on my ma/regen and there was a very good BS/SR in the french team who didnt seem to have much trouble. I think to some degree things were changed so melee didnt have to put much thought into their builds.
