Okay, well, this is a bit backwards. Because I just finished sending Synapse a PM about looking into correcting what I believe are a couple of inconsistencies within the Crab Spider attack list, and now I'm curious as to whether other Crab players would be open to these fixes if Synapse agreed with them. They are as follows:
Longfang: Change damage type to energy. It uses the same Crab arm as Channelgun (which deals energy damage), the same animation, and the same "energy" VFX. Even the power's description makes it seems like it should deal energy damage:
Quote:Now, what's interesting is that even NPC Crab Spiders with Longfang deal lethal damage. So in my opinion, this was an error that goes all the way back to the CoV launch. But I think it should be corrected nonetheless, because everything about the power leads one to think it would deal energy damage. I'd also like the NPC version of Longfang to be corrected as well.Your Longfang Channelgun may also fire short bursts of energy, causing greater damage. This attack also reduces your foe's defense.
Omega Maneuver: Change accepted damage IO set to PBAoE. Other location-based PBAoE powers like Shield Charge and Burn accept PBAoE sets, so why does Omega Maneuver get stuck with Targeted AoE sets?
And that's it. Would any Crab player be opposed to these two changes? If so, why? -

Quote:For me, this is the worst thing about the prequel trilogy -- the fact that it's a trilogy!7. The entire point on Lucas' writing for all 3 films was to get Anakin to Mustafar so he could become Vader, whether how and why he got there made any sense what so ever.
Ideally, Anakin/Vader needed three trilogies to tell his entire story from start to finish: one to introduce him and show his rise to the status of classic fantasy hero, one to show his fall from grace, and the last to show his redemption in death. Luke's story in the original trilogy is paced in such a way that his progression from naive kid to the last Jedi seems organic and is satisfying. Compare this to Anakin's story in the prequel trilogy and you'll find the prequels trying to cram too much stuff into three films. In fact, Lucas wanted so much progression over the three films that the story actually suffered for it. The story is just too compressed to leave an impression, in my opinion.
As a matter of fact, the two Clone Wars animated series have done a better job of giving Anakin's story a natural feel than the prequels did. -
Quote:I'd have trouble concentrating while teaming with her out of constant concern that she'd accidentally eviscerate herself on her belt buckle. It wouldn't exactly distract guys only.
I could never team with Mother Mayhem out of jealousy, envy, and possibly drool factor of my own.
Also, I'd be too busy scheduling chiropractor visits for her. Ouch. -
Immortal doesn't necessarily mean indestructible. Throughout their lore, vampires are considered to be immortal because there is no natural end to their lives. But you can bring about a deliberate end to their lives through a number of means.

I'll play. Why not?
What side do you pick more than others?
Villains, typically. Although my main is a Rogue and sees just as much time in Paragon.
What play style do you prefer?
Historically, I'm a melee player who leans toward high defense/big, slow attacks. Although I have varied it up in other games, and my main is a Crab Spider. I tend to solo most of the time, but am more than willing to do team-oriented content.
What power set(s) do you favor?
Soldier of Arachnos, obviously. But I tend to give many power combinations a spin. LOVE Titan Weapons.
What zones do you like the most?
Revamped Atlas, The Shadow Shard, First Ward. Imperial City is nice as well.
Do you usually play as a male or female (word of hatred) ''toon''?
Mostly male, but that's due primarily to enjoying being a hulking giant. Also, I'm not particularly confident in my ability to design female characters that don't obviously look like a guy designed them.
Views on Role Playing?
I'm an old PnP RPer going way back. In-game, I'm almost always somewhat in character, but I usually don't go full-tilt with my RP. That said, I'm more inclined to go deeper into character if I'm around others who are RPing.
Servers?
Justice for the last year or two. Before then, I was a Pinnaclite. -

Quote:I'm sorry that you can't reconcile the fact that THE PARAGON OF SUPER-HEROISM in the CoH universe won't abandon his morals, even in the light of his daughter's murder. What, was he supposed to fly in and rip Darren Wade in half like some EXTREME 1990's cliche? He's our Superman analogue, for crying out loud! He's not going to kill, even if he really, really wants to.The problem Eldritch Knight is that he was, or else Mr. Wade would be a smoking pile of ashes on the ground.
He intends to arrest him. He doesn't kill. He's thinking pretty calmly there, however stupidly.
S.
And as for plot holes (that aren't necessary evils in order to progress the story as it needs to be progressed), the only big one I can think of is villains not knowing that Darrin Wade is connected to Rularuu, as he flat out tells you at the end of his mid-level arc. SSA 5 could have progressed more or less as it does while calling back to that arc.
Now, generally speaking:
My villain didn't feel like got shafted. He feels like impaling Darrin Wade on his Crab Spider arms for doing his dirty work 20 levels ago and then making a power play like this when my character is also trying to amass cosmic power. -
Yeah. Not to be a jerk, but the suggestion forum is down a bit further. What we're to do here is to test and provide feedback on what the developers have put up on the beta server. If it doesn't pertain to what's currently up for testing, it doesn't belong here. Plain and simple.

Sadly, the AE is going to be what it's going to be, for good or ill. There are people who use it to farm, and people who use it to create and play stories. Either way, having a cross-faction AE (including Praetorians) in Pocket D couldn't hurt in getting people to go there.
-
Okay, so we have this extradimensional floating nightclub that's open to heroes, villains, and Praetorians alike. It's a terrific concept, it really is. But I still don't think it's living up to its full potential. I mean, DJ Zero can create anything he wants to there, and all we have is 1 dancefloor, an arena, a little tiki room, and occasionally a ski chalet. There's definitely room for improvement.
Suggestion 1: Add an AE interface of some sort. Doesn't matter if it's a little room off to the side of the main building or an actual AE building floating out on a rock. This would give Praetorian characters access to the Mission Architect before level 20 and create another reason aside from iTrials and roleplaying for people to be there. You could even remove the AE from the RWZ, as it's not really the best place to have such a complex, and because it would encourage use of the Pocket D AE.
Suggestion 2: Create more unique areas like the ski chalet. How about a tropical beach? Maybe a giant park. Or a big Zen garden, perhaps. There are tons of different areas that could be placed out in the void, accessible by portals. And in many cases, existing assets can be recycled to at least partially create these areas.
Suggestion 3: Make these other areas accessible year-round. You don't really have to disable the ski chalet after the winter event; just disable the contacts and the candy cane vendor. Similarly, any other areas of Pocket D could also have time-restricted content which is disabled, leaving the areas themselves open for players to gather.
There are other things that could be done to really make Pocket D a social hub for all characters, but these three suggestions are what I'd personally like to see done. -
I can confirm that the Grandville beacons are also fixed on beta.

While it's not mentioned in the patch note, the LFG tool also works for non-Incarnate trials. Stuff like Terra Volta and the Hydra trial.

Well, that and shadow aardvarks aren't really all that intimidating.

Quote:Prometheus has already told us that the Coming Storm is The Battalion, and they're coming from space. The whole thing with a dark elder god being awoken and turning Dark Astoria into 200% nightmare fuel is a completely different thing that the supers of Primal Earth have to deal with.So is this pointing to what the "Coming Storm" is actually gonna be about? We think it's gonna be about an alien invasion, but really it's going to be about all the old gods waking up and roaming the earth and causing great havoc.
And the Rikti will be shaking their heads at us and be all like, "This is why we killed our gods a long time ago!" -
Quote:The jeans can be tinted. What are you a 17 year old girl? lol out of style. But I do agree those patterns are lame and different fades/colors would I think be way better. But I was just assuming we could change the color like most other things or are these jeans on of those pre tinted costume pieces?

Thanks, heh. I saw the quilted jacket yesterday and my brain, having been cultivated on 80s pop culture, immediately went to BttF. Huey Lewis even started playing in my head!
EDIT: HOLY CRAP I TOTALLY FORGOT WE HAVE HOVERBOARDS THIS IS EXCELLENT! -
Quote:This.Love the costumes, but I'm disappointed at what looks like a trend: limited unique pieces for male characters, with significant proliferation and unique pieces to female characters. While I can appreciate the precarious situation the costume team is in with the uproar caused by the Gunslinger pack, the problem wasn't that there were unique pieces on both sides but that the themes weren't consistent.
Please, begin to make unique parts for both sexes again under consistent themes. Between this Chinese Dynasty and the Sash/Carnival Costume packs, things are heading down the other extreme with just as passionate resentment building for those of us who value our male characters.
Also ...
Thanks to the power of the PUFFY JACKET, I'd like to introduce you to the Time Manipulating, Fire Blasting MARTIN MACFRY!
(sadly can't get good facsimiles of Michael J's face or hair) -
Statesman = Goku?

Quote:Yep. Twice, even!Did anyone completely switch their main? Go from a tank to a defender or whatever?
My first main character, created during the tail end of the original CoH beta, was Axegrinder: an Inv/Axe Tanker loosely based on the Green Knight of Arthurian mythology. I played him until about the middle of the CoV beta, at which point I very briefly quit CoH altogether because I had a possible opportunity for overseas work and I wasn't sure that I'd be able to play if I got the position. I went so far as to delete all my toons so that their names would be freed up for other players. The job fell through at the last second, so I re-subscribed and focused on beta testing CoV.
It was there that I fell in love with the Brute AT and made my first long-term main character in Smashmouth, an SS/Inv. He remained my main character until I was able to beta test the VEATs and became enamored with the idea of the Crab Spider path. That's when I created my third and final main character, Goliath Bird Eater. Smashmouth is still around, but he's used mostly for gathering Villain Merits as GBE is a Rogue. -
Quote:Are you a mind reader? O.oLet's see if I can get this into words.
Marcus Cole is a man out of time. When he got his powers from the Well of the Furies, it was 1923 (?) and the world was a much different place then. The world had barely begun to recover from the Great War, and the rumblings that would lead to the second were only just starting. In some ways, Good and Evil were a bit more cleanly defined, and it was very easy for Marcus Cole to know how to devote his energies to fight for Good.
Times change. Marcus Cole watches a man who was his friend become a bitter enemy. Society explodes in revolutions and counter revolutions and movements and social disorder and an almost complete rewrite of what right and wrong are. In the middle of all that, Marcus cole is driven by his own Moral code to keep doing the right thing.
Old generations of heroes die, New heroes are born and Statesman now feels increasingly out of touch. He still is driven to fight evil, but it's less obvious what Evil might be these days. He feels lost. The few times that things become clear again, say giant meteors from space and alien invasions, he knows exactly what to do but, otherwise, younger generations of heroes see him as a museum piece. Too rigid and inflexible in his morality. Invulnerable, Undefeatable, Dull, boring. Sure it's nice to have him around when the Rikti come to call, but he's a bit of an embarassment.
"We can take care of Nemesis," they tell him "and the council, and Arachnos, you know ALL OF THE PEOPLE YOU COULDNT GET RID OF"
Just to make this even more complicated, the Well that gave him his powers in the first place is getting more and more... pushy. it's getting harder to resist its demands.
He has a major conflict. He wants to keep fighting for good but he's tired. The well wants to use him but he doesn't want to let it. The world doesn't really want him around anymore but refuses to let him go.
He wants to end it all but he's not sure he can.
I think thats how I would present the character.
That's exactly how I'd write him as well. The world around him has changed so much, the people he's loved have grown old and/or died. The full weight of immortality (such as it may be for an Incarnate) has begun to wear him down. What may appear to be arrogance, aloofness, and hostility might just actually be the realization of the price he paid for becoming the champion of so many, so long ago.
