  2. I like the Praetorian War and I think the devs are brave to pursue it to its logical conclusion. Besides, they had to tie Incarnates to Going Rogue securely enough to justify making it part of the expansion as opposed to making it free content. Making all the Incarnate stuff so far be related to Praetoria only makes business sense.

But I'm thinking they will tie it up in issue 21, hopefully with something satisfyingly epic. One thing seems certain - there will be non-Praetorian things for Incarnates eventually.
  3. Oh lord... does that mean when I slot my 3rd tier in my ice controller the Ice Slick is going to cause things to scatter like it does rikti monkeys now? Yuck.
  4. I like both. The villain-side is a nice change of pace and lets me play someone with a different mindset although I find mercenary types fit in best. I have used AE to modify the way several of the regular contact's stories play out so that they favor my character better and make me feel less like a lackey.

I like hero-side mainly because that's where my friends like to stay and there always seems to be more to do, TF's to join, etc. It's also easier in the sense that contacts are plentiful, bank jobs are optional, and the stories generally fit my characters.

On average I'll play my villains once or twice a week and my heroes the rest of the time.
  5. Oh I believe you. I just wonder what specific or combination of things cause the issue because obviously it isn't *just* the +level difficulty thing. I'll certainly be looking at it more closely in the future for sure.
  6. Worked fine at +1/x4 difficulty setting:

  7. The one time I organized a pug ITF I was flooded with tells and stuff and was totally unable to keep everyone straight... the main problem with that one is being unable to invite people as they send tells but really, I was just totally disorganized and was unprepared for the response. I had to apologize to multiple folks that day while I was banging my head against the wall for my supidity and noobness... but I didn't quit the team.

Mainly because I've been that extra invite quite a few times. IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL (at least to me). Stuff happens. I move on. Another TF will form soon. I would be mortified to think the original organizer - the guy who did all the work to form the team - stepped out because of me. I'd also hate it if I did get on a TF only to find out the original organizer was bailing on us because of something like this.

Make the apology, try to keep it from happening again (it will anyway) and move on. I'm sure the over-invited player will forget about it faster than you will.
  8. hmm... makes me want to check my logs when I get home. We ran it at +1 because that happened to be my difficulty setting. I got 7 shards total and just assumed it included those two.

    I hate myself!

Our coalition may have 13-17 members but I don't think we could put together a league of 12 all on the same night. At least not without my wife whom I wouldn't even ask because she detests big groups. I'd never hear the end of "making" her play.

I'm not terribly concerned about failing the trial... well maybe a little afraid I'll be the cause but that's a different story. I'm just thinking, for all the reasons I gave, that I will not be participating very much regardless of how cool it might or might not be unless I have a more single-team oriented path. If there isn't one then I don't forsee my ever progressing much along the non-Alpha slot paths.

We have trials now - the ship raid and the Hamidon. Both are entirely optional and fun and I love doing both. But they aren't something my friends and I do as a group. That's because when we do show up - especially for Hami and I fear for these new trials as well - we end up split across multiple teams and feeling like we are each alone among strangers doing different things... so what was the point of doing it on group night?

And if we don't do them on group nights it'll have to be something we participate in as individuals on nights when I'd normally be in a small 2-3 man team running normal content. Of the current trials, I've done exactly 1 Hamidon and 3 ship raids in the 15 or so months since I got my first 50. Now the new trials have some extremely good reasons to run them, so I'll end up in them more often than the current trials, but probably not often enough to actually progress much along what appears to be a very grindy road.

I am hopeful that my fear of the unknowns of the LFG and Leagues and the Trials themselves in general will prove to be totally unfounded. I.e. the leagues will tend to be led by people who know what they are doing, multiple people aren't barking conflicting orders, that they aren't always mass confusion and chaos, that a team of friends don't end up on different leagues, that the trials will still be popular enough 6 months down the road that you aren't waiting hours for a critical mass of folks to LFG for the same trial, that you won't end up on an all-defender BAF of 12 toons, that the rewards are sufficient to make you feel like you are making progress with each one, etc, etc, etc...

But even if it is the greatest thing since sliced bread I will STILL keep hoping for smaller tasks for team-sized units that give the same rewards because that is the stuff I find the most fun.

    I hate myself!

The big trials are a disappointment for me too but not because of the story. It's because they require so many people and the mechanics of starting them sort of scare me (not that I've had a chance to try it). To me it appears to be something I join solo in order to get threads/i-merits and hope for the best instead of putting together teams of my friends to tackle a particular task force and have fun. I'm hoping I'll be proven wrong after it goes live.

What I'd really like is for them to introduce Incarnate contacts or even some form of repeatable-tips-like content for both heroes and villains that will give us a better small team option for advancing our characters. But if that doesn't come in issue 21 then I doubt it'll ever come and that's sad.

As for the story - I completely ignore the whole Well of the Furies thing. That's just dumb except maybe for a few specific characters. My main is simply digging deeper and finding a new source of inner strength to tackle ever-increasingly powerful problems. As for all the problems being Praetorians... well, there is a war going on so I'm accepting that part of the story for the moment and I find it fairly epic. Maybe I'll change my mind after I've run those TF's/Raids a hundred times but not yet.
  13. As long as you are not changing your alignment you get some sort of merit reward.

    Hero/Villain:
    1st Morality Mission = 50 reward merits
    2nd+ Morality Missions = 1 Alignment Merit

    Rogue/Vigilante:
1st Morality Mission changes your alignment
2nd Morality Mission confirming your current alignment = 30 reward merits
    3rd+ Morality Missions = 60 reward merits
  14. I always considered "Cheers" to be like "Aloha" - sort of a friendly hello/goodbye depending on context. I had no idea it's supposed to be a thank you.

Some of my characters already refer to elevators as lifts so I was aware of that word but only about half of the others I've seen in this thread.
  15. That's me. Knockup/down is awesome (and makes me dislike AOE Immobilizes that prevent them) but knockback is very situational and depends more on the skill of the player than other forms of mitigation - especially in a team.

I don't know how many times my dark tank has had an entire spawn blown in multiple directions away from me by an energy blaster while I was triggering either my heal or build up power. It is true they all eventually come back and the annoyance is short-lived and I've gotten used to it... but it always seemed to just slow things down to me. I always warn the KB-crazy people that I never chase knockbacks and they need to clean up their own messes.

Now... on an entirely different aspect... Knockback is awesome at making you feel SUPER! And if an enemy can knock ME down then that makes me feel like "uh oh, this guy is STRONG! I need to stay away from him!" Yeah, love/hate relationship with it.
  16. We pass the star all around prior to starting TF's all the time and it has never bugged the TF. When we get bugged it is always because someone dropped just prior or during a mission and it doesn't have to be the star. It seems pretty random in that the TF does not always become bugged because someone dropped.

It has happened to me several times in PuG TF's but only once to our SG. All times it has happened to me we waited 15 minutes or so for a GM to fix it. Next time it happens to a SG run I'll suggest Ironblade's solution.

Luckily it doesn't happen to us often because people drop so rarely (and when they do it is a controlled "I need to reboot" kind of drop). In fact the one time it did happen to us it was a person who joined just to fill so we could start. After we started they went to Ouroboros and exited the game then came back a little later and quit the TF to go do something else.
  17. Ok thanks. The escort went to the objective and all that worked fine but because it was in the mission it was also an objective I had to click on (or could).

I guess I could just not put nav text on it and mark it as not required. That'll probably do the trick. I'll try next time I have a chance to mess with it.

Going to a boss is definitely an option. That particular mission has a boss also. Would be a cool way to do a betrayal Escort.
  18. I would like to have an escort go to something besides the mission exit. I see I can select a mission objective to take the escort to but do I need to use a particular type of objective or set that objective up in a special way?

I want to take the escort to a collection/computer. I don't want to be able to use the computer myself, it's just a place to take the escort. I'm not sure how to do that. My first try out of the box ended up using the computer both as something I had to click and as a place to take the escort. Any attempt to change the setting of the collection to be related to the escort led to a circular reference error. What am I doing wrong?
  19. I would love to have both more color and texture options for skin. I'm with you on this one Scarlet.
  20. Very nice (and inspiring) themed costumes SlyGuyMcFly & Obsidian Light! Thanks for sharing.

    ITF lag issues

That seems like a reasonable request. I'll avoid summoning my soldiers when I'm on ship raids from now on and stick with spec-ops and commando.
  22. I finally broke down and bought the extra slots a couple of weeks ago and have a new arc I'm working on. I had my three filled and didn't want to take any of them down because I personally still play them even if no one else outside of my wife does. Everyone else I know has pretty much stopped playing AE. An advertisement for testers on my SG forum netted 1 guy.

That can be disappointing but in the end analysis I don't write arcs for other people. I write them for myself, usually to re-write canon when an arc doesn't end the way I want it to (take THAT Mr. Phipps!). So changes to canon stories don't bother me much.

Anyway, I'll keep using it for that and sometimes for roleplay purposes and hope they keep adding new enemies and maps like they have been the last few issues. It's a great tool and while the excitement for it has cooled I still use it on a fairly regular basis.
  23. But the Gaussian icon has a green bookmark (assuming I'm looking at it right) so... not a major arc but you say they are all considered major? I'm confused.

But then I've always been confused by the whole major/minor distinction and how many of each you could have open at once etc. Even before the change I frequently had trouble seeing the difference between the red and gold books because, as I recall, the difference between them was the writing on the page which came off as a slight red tint vs a slight gold tint. I could tell the difference with effort but most of my friends never did. I was glad to hear they were changing them and then disappointed at the change.

The only good thing is that I ALWAYS finish every arc I start. I'm just weird that way. I do hate it when the book shows up just because the first mission was offered or in the case of Agent G just because I accidentally called him. I have a lot of high levels who all have his book sitting on my contact screen mocking me.

I like Zombie Man's change. I'll be sure to download that tonight.

    ITF lag issues

I always have problems with those two missions with all or most of my click powers. I assumed it was just the price we pay for having a cool but huge outdoor mission densely packed with fairly complex foes like the Cimerorans.
  25. Our ITF last night ranged from 10 for me to 1 for one of the blasters. Seems as random as ever.

[Edit] Oh, and the character I used was level shifted.
