Cant do alpha slot missions

I'm having a problem with one of my 50's. When I try to do the missions from Mender Ramiel I get a message that says "Settle anything that needs finished then speak with me". I have no missions in my list and he is listed as an inactive contact. I have never completed any missions from him and the mission progress bar show nothing completed.

I have read that there will be another way to unlock the Alpha in issue 20 but I don't no what that is. Can someone tell how I can do this or if anyone else has had the same problem. I did send in a bug report but nothing has changed and I can't still do the missions.

Sounds like you're currently on a TF/SF or AE. Open your Team window and click the quit button if it's present.

If that isn't the issue, you'd be better off sending a petition instead of a bug report (petitions go to a GM). The new way in i20 will be by doing one of the TFs and earning 'experience' towards unlocking the slot (in the same manner as you will for all the other slots).

It sounds like you have open story arcs from other contacts. Look in your active contact list and check for any that have a book icon on them. You may need to finish at least one of them to get Ramiel's story arc open for you.

And make sure that you're also checking any really old contacts for them, including any from the other side, if you've switched from villain to hero, or vice versa.

If you don't have any open contacts at all, but have switched sides, you might have to switch back to fix this. Story arcs never expire, and are considered "open" until you've completed the last mission in a chain. Also, active Story Arc isn't the same as an active mission - if any of your contacts has a book icon on their contact panel, that's an Active Story Arc, even if you don't currently have *any* missions from them on your list.

Where this can cause a problem with side switching, is that none of your "other side" contacts are deleted. They're just hidden from you. So any active Story Arcs are still being counted as "in progress" by the system, even though there's no way you can complete them at the moment. The only workaround if this is the problem is to switch back to the correct alignment for that contact and finish the story arc. In future, it would be best to make sure there are no active Story Arcs an a character who is going to complete the alignment change.

I got the same "error" on one of my 50's when I had too many arcs open. I didn't have any active missions, just too many arcs open at once. That might also be the issue.

I don't have any open story arcs and I used the the Abandon button for the only one I did have when I tried to do his missions In the beginning. I'm not on a SF/TF either. He is listed as an inactive contact.

I haven't switched sides so I can't figure out what the heck is going on.

Looks as if I will need to do the new TF's in issue 20 to get it unlocked. This really has me confused.

Just to confirm, you are checking for open story arcs and not open missions correct? You can tell if you're in an arc because the contact will have a open book next to their picture.

I apologize if you already knew this it's just your comment about abandoning an arc confused me. You can abandon missions but not arcs, once you accept an arc mission (and sometimes even if you are just offered an arc mission) the arc is open until you complete it even if you abandon the mission.

I just checked and I have seven open arcs so what your telling me is that I must complete all seven before I can start the missions from Mender Ramiel.

I have an Ill/kin that has five open arcs and Mender Ramiel will give him the mission so that doesn't make any sense. Why can one toon with five ope arcs get the missions but another with seven not get them?

Well, it's not a bad idea to clear them out.. but you do need to clear at least one. You can have up to seven major arcs, and only up to seven, at a time. And Ramiel is a major arc.

Just start completing arcs, once you get below the threshold ( not sure what it is, someone will pop in with that info) then Ramiel will speak with you.

Some arcs don't matter and some do. You *used* to be able to tell the difference - some were gold coloed books and some were red. I believe the red ones you could have as many open as you wanted without consequance. The gold books you could only have up to 3 open at a time, locking you out of any further arcs.

These days you can't tell what is a gold and what is a red. At least...I can't.

A couple of your arcs will likely have to be completed first. As for which ones...? You're going to have to guess.

I had to do that with mine, I finished the two closest to completion and then went back and tried to speak to him again, and this time it worked.

You're going to have to complete the arcs one at a time and go back to the mender each time to see if that's the arc you needed to complete.

The problem is the colors are now blue and green...

So seven is the limit on open arcs that make more sense to me know. I will try completing a couple and go back to him and try again.

Thanks for all your help.

That's odd because all of the books are the exact same color to me - a pale yellow.

The number of ARCs doesn't matter at all, you can have as many active contacts/arcs as you want.

You can only have seven active MISSIONS at any one time. Just complete one of your active missions but do NOT start the next mission from the contact and you'll be able to start Ramiel's arc.

That's only true for minor arcs. Major arcs have a limit. As the OP said, he has no active missions currently (he even abandoned the only one he had at the time).

The books have a colored bookmark that is barely visible. One is blue, the other is green. Or, for some people, one is brown and the other is brown.

This should fix it.

Major Arc Icon for the colorblind (et. al.)

I'm not colorblind or anything, but perhaps my vision issues are playing a part in why I am unable to see a different color bookmark. The entire thing looks one color to me. Oh well.

Gaussian has a green bookmark (minor) and Virginia Hoffman has a blue bookmark (major). The differences in the icons in game, especially on higher-resolution monitors, even for normally-sighted people, is completely unnoticeable. For colorblind people, they are essentially the same color.

Minor arcs used to be shown with a red book, and major arcs were yellow books. This was immediately obvious to normally-sighted people, and the majority of colorblind folks would see them as two different shades of brown.

No one knows why this change was made (with or sometime near I14, IIRC); no one was requesting it. Completely out of left field.

LOL. Or, for some of those of us who are older: one is too tiny to tell what color it is, and the other is too tiny to tell what color it is.

I know which one I prefer.

Edit: Oh, and though they show the green Minor arc icon, the RWZ contacts are considered Major story arcs, except for Borea's 'paper' missions.
