Yup. Conceptually - I would LOVE to have MA.

I'd love BS and Spines too. ;P
  2. This is a bit hard to explain properly but some character concepts of mine call for the toon to wield different weapons - sword, axe and hammer for example. I'd love to see weapon customization get extended where 1 handed weapons can be used across the various 1 handed weapon sets - i.e. Broadsword can use Axe and Mace weapons. Similar to how the Shovel is used in both Axe and Mace sets.

I know in some cases it'd require new animations even if all that's needed is to max the weapon be carried at a different angle (like the shovels) but I'm sure in other cases there wouldn't be a need for new animations.

I just think it'd really extend/fill out a lot of character concepts out there.

Now if this is an issue in PvP for any reason (the damage type not matching the visual appearance of the weapon) then perhaps in PvP zones the weapon either matches the proper damage type or it defaults to the base model of that damage type. Meaning, if you go into Siren's Call and have a Mace in your hand but you actually are using the Broadsword power then it will default to the standard Broadsword graphic. If you have any Broadsword model in your hand tho, it retains that graphic. Similar to how certain powers are set to not show in PvE but have to show in PvP.

  4. I'd like to see Staves and I'd also like to see a general 2handed set where you can customize the weapon to look like a sword or axe or hammer or clubby thing. If staves can be thrown into the same powerset then that'd be nice.

I have some concepts that call for the same toon using different hand held weapons. Though it'd probably be easier to allow cross weapon customization (axes and sword models being used with mace powers). The damage type may not match the look of the weapon but so what? :P
  5. Yeah, it's killing me not doing Thermal with Demons. I love how it looks and the thematic matching of it all. I tried it for a bit too. I just don't like constant buffing. If those buffs lasted until death or zoning I'd be all over it. :P Although I am used to powers that debuff/CC enemies/damage mitigation and Thermal only gets some of that and very late.

The part that kills me is that if I don't do a Thermal now with such an awesome pairing in Demons then I never will. But maybe that's ok. :P
  6. Looking at all of the awesome (but old) Probability Manipulation powerset ideas in the Suggestion forms makes me sad. I'd love to see one of those some day. I know you can get away with some current powers and I plan to, but I'd love to see a dedicated powerset at some point. Somewhere between Empathy/Rad Debuffs/SR Buffs. /swoon

I guess I'm in between DP/Rad Corr or Mace (or DB)/SR Brute. He's based on a playing card theme. I'd strongly consider Thugs if there were some /rad or another decent probability feeling power for MMs.
  7. So I'm enjoying my Demons/Storm quite a bit. For a concept I'm also thinking of Demons/Trick Arrow. Has anyone given that a fair shake yet? The extra controls seem handy plus the extra powers that allow the demons to do more damage via -RES and whatnot. Plus the Vanguard Bow and Rularuu Bow can look pretty demonic when tinted just so.
  8. I couldn't find much here about this combo. Anyone have any working experience with this? Is it a good pairing? I'm looking for a concept build and so far this looks like a good combo conceptually speaking at least.
  9. I may have to break my (silly) rule and make a male Fortunata. Sadly the concept has no connection to Arachnos tho.

    Or a Mace/SR Brute. :P
  10. What powersets in your opinion can be used as a fill in for Probability Manipulation? This is for a concept where a gambler with some Probability control has to turn to true villainy. Any red side AT will do. I'm thinking possibly Super Reflexes, Fortunata and Night Widows, perhaps Radiation Emissions, etc. Would love to hear what everyone thinks!

I only have more than 12 slots on one server. That test wouldn't work, unless I wanted to waste vet slots there (if I have any left! I have 36 on Virtue).

If I'm understanding the nature of the issue that is.

    Ack! My slots!

Is this still happening? I'm afraid to reroll a toon and lose a name on Virtue.

    Stone/Fire

So no one plays this combo? I suppose I could go earth/earth or earth/fire Dom but I liked the Smash of the Brute.

This. I, for one, welcome our misdirecting, light-bending overlords. I've been waiting for a Dark Illusion (and we'd just color it up w/ power customization now) set for Villains for years now. Ever since I saw Malaise throw it around.

I'd take it any which way I could get it but I'd certainly *want* Spectral Terror, Spectral Wounds, the Invisibilities, etc. It's such an awesome set and it never did much in having hard holds on Blue side, I don't expect it to have much on Red side either.

    Demons/Storm

That's probably about the same build I'd have - one less travel power so one more APP/PPP. Icky tight. hehe

Will just need to figure out the slotting on the Demon stuff, slotted Storm enough times. :P

    Stone/Fire

I've done some searches and I've not found all that much about this combo other than it's.. challenging due to slow attack chains and endurance usage. I really like the combo for this concept I'm going with tho and would like to try and make it work. Does anyone have any pointers on dealing with the trouble spots of this build? Should I avoid Blazing Aura until post Stamina or just not get it at all? Should I pick up Air Superiority to fill in the attack chain? Etc.

If there are any builds out there that I missed, I'd be grateful to see 'em.

    Thanks!

    Demons/Storm

I'd have the same problem with /dark - everything but Blackhole is worth taking.

For /storm I take everything but Thunderclap (except for my Plant/Storm/Earth Controller since I can stack stuns with Fissure). With City Traveller I can get at least one power free'd up. I just usually go with the Fitness pool and one travel power in that case (w/o the prereq).

Very tight but fun to play. Granted, I've not gotten high enough with this Demon/Storm but I plan to do the same thing - all powers from both pools except for Thunderclap.

I'd love to see a build too.

    Demons/Storm

I'm debating on the secondary to pair with Demons and I know you can't go wrong with most, if any, of them.

I love /dark but I have *several* Dark toons on Blue and Red side. I love Storm but I have about three Storm toons too. I was trying Thermal but.. good lord I hate buffing all the time - even just doing SB on my Kins gets on my nerves after a while. Maybe if Cold Domination ever came our way I'd give that a try.

My question is - is there any special synergy between Demons and Storm that would help make me feel less guilty about running yet another Storm toon? :P

Oh, most definitely. Have a toon just sitting there waiting for it to happen!
  21. I just wish we could get base editing like that via easy to use tools. Not weird stacking.. techniques.

And those look awesome btw. Brilliant, especially the entrance!
  22. I'm more than happy to wait until the Devs and the testers are happy with the final product.

Some of the pertinent details have already been brought up, such as the highly instanced nature of the game, the use of various global channels to manage teaming across multiple servers, and so on. There are also external game factors, with multiple other desirable games having launched over the past couple of months, the recent Steam Forth of July sale, and competition with other MMO's, such as World of Warcraft and AION. MMO populations rise and fall, as other things happen outside of the MMO population.

I do want to assuage Bill's worries that servers might be turned off, or that a server merge is in the future of the game.

First, the setup of City Of Heroes isn't really conducive to merging the servers. Too many servers have players with the same name, or supergroups with the same name, or many other factors.

Second, the running cost for a server is actually pretty small at this point in time. The servers have, by and large, paid for themselves multiple times over, and there's money left in the bank to finance bandwidth for a considerable time. Ergo, there's no push to turn off servers due to operating cost overhead.

Also, NCSoft has also committed itself to a multi-year plan with City of Heroes, and I think NCSoft will only revise / revisist the intent of it's multi-year plan if Going Rogue has an extensive weak market performance.

Going Rogue will be launching towards the end of summer and the beginning of the US school year (I think the EU also gets summer off? yes? no?). I suspect NCSoft will be looking at the expansions performance figures over the fall / winter quarters before making any judgment calls over whether or not the game is genuinely bleeding subscribers that won't come back, or if the slow-down is indeed linked to external factors.

Ergo, we probably won't see any major moves from NCSoft over City Of Heroes till next year at the earliest.

If subscriber numbers don't meet NCSoft's expectations within that time, that's probably when we'll see the call on whether or not CoH continues as is, or if Paragon Studios is tasked to get CoH2 out the door while putting the original CoH on standby.

My opinion is that CoH2 is NCSoft's Nuclear option. They'd rather not pull an SOE and fund an entirely new engine / new game when the old game is still very viable for upgrades / enhancements...
I've gone through many server mergers in other games as a player and as a dev. I totally agree with all of this.
  24. Thanks for the answers.

Is redraw a big deal with Spines? Meaning is it the same as with any other weapon set? I'm used to DB, AR, etc. but first time with dealing with redraw and Spines.
